The Technical Area – Man City’s Attack, Home vs Away

An unceremonious defeat at the hands of League One Wigan may have scuppered Pep Guardiola’s quest for a legendary quartet of titles but Manchester City’s Premier League form has been as strong as ever.

After sweeping five goals past Leicester in their final fixture before the FA Cup break, City have now found the net an impressive 79 times this season – a full 18 clear of their nearest rival, Liverpool.

With five attackers – Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane, David Silva and Sergio Aguero – all past the 100-point threshold in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), City have clearly proven themselves to represent our most reliable source of regular Fantasy points.

As 19,000 delirious Wigan fans discovered on Monday night, however, there is a marked difference between City’s form at home and on their travels.

In this latest Technical Area article for members, we will put this under scrutiny, with particular reference to the merits of keeping faith in Man City’s attacking assets.

    A) Aguero > Firmino
    B) Alonso/Ota > VVD/Robertson
    C) Alonso & Walcott > Robertson & Mane
    D) Aguero & Walcott > Firmino & Mane

Worth making an early move today or tom to get Robertson?

Have exact cash for Jones & Lingard to Robertson & Walcott.

Jones close to a drop maybe tonight or tom. On -83 on FPL Stats.

Other options to sell are Ota & Alonso but don’t want to sell them if Jones is injured.

Best sub-5m midfielder to bring in?

I don't mind them bench-warming most weeks but for them to play in the BGW coverage is optimal.

Is it Milivojevic? Rivals have him so it'd be nice to have a differential, but could nab him if no better options.

I know he has penalties, but horrific fixtures!

Thanks all. I'll probably go with Milli. Rubbish next few fixtures, but that penalty draw is useful.

Just been looking ahead to the GW38 finale, and I can see everything coming down to who you pick on that day. Get it right and you could be in for a massive haul. The biggest problem is picking the optimum team, as literally all the big boys have fairly plummy fixtures!

    ARS vs hud
    CHE vs new
    liv vs BHA
    MCI vs sot
    mun vs WAT
    tot vs LEI

It's likely that CHE, MUN and TOT will also have a DGW in 37 so I guess we'll already be loaded up on them. But Salah and Aguero could be shooting out with Kane for the Golden boot and ARS always finish the season with a big score.....and they have Huddersfield!!

How we are going to pick a team from that lot I have no idea!!!!

Free Hit means you can really dumb down the bench, but that is dangerous with rotation problems

            • 7 Years
            6 years, 2 months ago

Free hit also allows you select options with latest information to help avoid rest/rotation, and may leave you better off than those that made their choices many weeks before. You can still have a decent bench.

            1. Hotdogs for Tea
              • 8 Years
              6 years, 2 months ago

Yes agree, but the tendency is to want Hazard, Sanchez, Salah, Eriksen, Kane, Aguero, Alonso, Jones, DDG .... and you won’t get that with money sitting on your bench

              Probably best to have a premium 11 with 4 x 4 million fodder ?

sounds like opposite to FH time. if there are so many good options and nobody can afford them all then its just luck if you pick the right ones or not. IF all the big boys score well everyone will have similar scores anyway

and why would non FH player not get that kind of score also. Most of those points would come from the big players such as kane, hazard etc. Everyone is going to own those players anyway after DGW.

Because you have the latest information from the pressies, are cherry picking the best options for players, (e.g. selling Vardy or Mahrez for Liverpool/Arsenal assets), not taking hits, stripping your bench of value and putting it into the first 11 ... its all basic stuff really in getting the best ‘one off’ team out to match the specific circumstances on the Saturday morning

      normally goals in last GW.
Most issues sorted or teams have to do something to do - qualify for CL or avoid relegation.
We'll start seeing the "on the beach"sides emerging soon.
Last year's av score was distorted by Kane (c) haul.

It's possible to build quite a tasty little team for GW38 if you have FH available....

      Cech
      Gomez, Smalling, Christensen
      Sterling, Lingard, Ramsey, Salah
      Kane, Firmino, Aguero

All depends who's playing regularly and in form of course, but something like this could work...

You forget that by then unlike last few seasons Arsenal wont be able to qualify for UCL so wont have any desire to score a plenty. Also Mancity may go all the way in UCL and will rest Kun. He will anyway miss some games due to suspension, gabriel and city focus on Europe now. So LOaded up assets of CHE MUN TOT plus Salah which we anyway have till gw 37. Add in mix punt on Aubameyang or Ramsey.
This is a tepid hottopic. No way any discussion will help right now. Most dont have team set for DGW 34 forget dgw 37 and least of all gw 38!

I disagree to a certain extent. I think the reason to think about it right now is to help people decide when to use the FH chip. Some may be planning to use it in 31 which is a valid strategy, but the above may just cause them to reconsider. In which case they'll need the next 3 gameweeks to bring in GW31 players.

If you are going to fh in 38 and wc in 32 then you have until 32 to plan how it works.

Good chance utd are in fa cup final with nothing to play for also and maybe tot or Chelsea too so as you rightly say if we are loaded up on them after the doubles then we could be in for a world of pain rotation and points wise in gw38.

We won't know who will be safe in top 4 or from relegation when we wc in 32/33 so we will be trusting to luck when it cones to rotation/motivation issues.

Lownton hasn't been the problem past 2 games. I think it's his spot to loose.

Best wildcard team for the next 5 gws. I was thinking 3 pool and spurs players and Dawson any other suggestions?

Arsenal do have some nice fixtures after City (one could arguably say that is a decent fixture attacking wise) but should one also consider that there is a chance that their league position is a matter one should be aware of? They could be out of Champions league reach and what implication will that give? Free flwing attack and Robin Hood like in defence? Rotation?

Think i'm still set on saving FH for GW 35 which means i need to use my transfers to build up my GW31 team.

Currently I have Wilson, Daniels, Salah, Walcott and then to a lesser extent Kenny & RLC.

The question is still whether to do Alonso > VVD this week or Aguero > Firmino?

I think the first is probably best with Firmino in next week, what do you think?
