Navigating the Blanks and Doubles for Those Low on Chips

If you still have both your second Wildcard and Free Hit chips well done on your patience – it’s clear you’ve got an advantage over the coming Gameweeks.

This article is about damage limitation if you have already played your Free Hit or Wildcard Chip.

As a quick recap, the likely fixture map Fantasy managers will have to navigate is a blank Gameweek 31, double Gameweek 34, blank Gameweek 35 and double Gameweek 37.

For those with one of these key chips in hand the best time to deploy this could be to prepare for the final two of these tricky fixtures. A Free Hit in Gameweeks 35 or 37 could be advisable, while a Wildcard could be best used in Gameweek 36 to set your side up for the following week’s double fixtures.

This means that Gameweeks 31 and 34 need to be best navigated by careful planning  – which starts right now.

Navigating Gameweeks 31 and 34

Many of those with both chips intact will be looking to Wildcard straight after Gameweek 31 to stock up on Double Gameweek 34 and 37 players. They then have the luxury of using a Free Hit chip in Blank Gameweek 35.

This is what the chipless are up against.

Those without a wildcard will need to start planning now for not only blank Gameweek 31 but also double Gameweek 34.

Of these two key times in the fixture list Gameweek 31 should be the easiest to navigate. Even many of those dead ending a team then and Wildcarding afterwards are unlikely to field a full XI.

The best advice is to match those with both chips by ensuring you have targeted the key players for Gameweek 31. Quality over quantity is key for the chipless.

Gameweek 31 key players

Mohamed Salah, who will be captained by most, is vital. Two other Liverpool players is also advisable, with Roberto Firmino, Virgil Van Dijk and Sadio Mane the key contenders. While they do not enjoy a double Gameweek 34 they do play in Gameweek 35. I’ll talk more about Liverpool’s importance to the chipless later on.

Others to consider are one of Everton’s midfield duo Gylfi Sigurdsson or Theo Walcott. Callum Wilson at Bournemouth and Xheran Shaqiri could also be useful, although not essential.

Gameweek 34 key players

Your four free transfers between now and then also need to take into account double Gameweek 34 players.

So it may be wise now to start stocking up now or keep hold of some of their assets. This will inevitably mean you reduce your  Gameweek 31 cohort.

The best Gameweek 34 teams to target include Arsenal, Manchester City and Burnley, with fodder made up from Swansea and West Ham.

Caveat: If Swansea beat both Sheff Wed and Spurs in the FA Cup both they and Man City will have a blank in Gameweek 35 .

Here are the fixtures of the key teams to target:

Arsenal

Gameweek 34 -new, lei

Gameweek 35  – WHU

Burnley

Gameweek 34 – LEI CHE

Gameweek 35 – stk

Swansea

Gameweek 34 – EVE, SOU

Gameweek 35 – mci

West Ham

Gameweek 34 – STK, MUN

Gameweek 35 – ars

Manchester  City

Gameweek 34 – tot, BRI

Gameweek 35 – SWA

By planning now you should be able to go into Gameweek 31 with key players for that week as well  as preparing for double Gameweek 34. I believe it should be possible to field 10 double Gameweek 34 players through such planning.

Liverpool

A final mention goes to Liverpool players. They are key for Gameweeks 31 and 35 and the season run in with strong fixtures. However, they do not enjoy any double Gameweeks.

The question I’ve asked myself is would those with a second Wildcard really want to remove Reds assets when they play Bournemouth at home in Gameweek 34 and West Brom away in Gameweek 35?

Savvy wild carders will keep hold of Liverpool players, which means that those without this chip should too.

Investment in Liverpool looks to be crucial for the chipless.

no - that' why the article says 'likely fixture map'

Very likely though that they will take place then.

Very likely according to who? Everyone claims to know when the fixtures will be re-arranged for every season, and are always wrong.

Yes, it's very possible, but I certainly wouldn't say "likely".

Looks like Arsenal play themselves away in GW34. Could be interesting.
Also, isn't Spurs likely to have a DGW34?

      Lol !
      forgive the typo
in Gwk 34 Arsenal are away at Newcastle and Leicester.

Spurs will have a DGW34 if they beat Rochdale in the FA Cup, but that means they would blank in GW35

I think these players/advice could also apply to people with both WC and FH - Arsenalx3 & Burnleyx3 have nice fixtures, a DGW and no blank 35. City probably the same, KDB/Sterling should be safe enough rotation wise. Happy to play Salah in GW35 also.

You could wildcard those players in now (plus Spurs/Leicester) and have a solid base for 34/35 to work with. Use FH in 31.

This also means you get a decent advantage in GW30, when the GW31 teams have the following horror-fixtures:
    Bournemouth (tot)
    Crystal Palace (che)
    Stoke (mci)
    Liverpool (utd)
    Watford (ars)
    West Brom (LEI)
(Everton & Huddersfield have decent games)

I'm toying with similar plan, but thinking of using FT's for Leicester+Spurs+Arsenal, and then WC'ing in GW36 and playing FH in GW37 as I've wasted TC chip. This would mean playing a bare boens team in GW30 though,

I was thinking the same yesterday - I could get Mahrez/Mkhi/Eriksen and still get maybe 7 GW31 players and save the FH for 37/38.

A GW36/37 WC and GW38 FH could be useful (and fun) - if you need to catch up you could go super maverick/differential and hope the usual culprits blank/get rotated.

That's what thought when reading it.

Really useful article for those of us with both those chips - helps to put ourselves in the shoes of those without them...as they could end up with some form of advantage by looking at an angle we haven't.

yeah I certainly don't think they are at a major disadvantage, especially if players like Francis/Deulofeu/WBA all end up returning 2-pointers in GW31...so much so that I really am considering almost pretending I don't have them either, and then deploying a GW37 WC and GW38 FH.

after consideration a GW36 WC looks good, teams going for CL have great fixtures the last two weeks. FH31.

Buzzy I have never seen your name here but I extend my gratitude for this article. Used both WC and FH. While FH was wasted the WC for first gameweek of the year has this far salvaged what was becoming a grim season and I hope to climb further with some luck. I've been braced for this period so this information will come in handy. Got 3 Liverpools, Shaq, Mili, but that's probably all I will have for 31 as I don't really want to switch from 352 to 3 up front just to get Wilson, or swap Hazard - my only non-playing GW31 midfielder - for Wally or Gylfi. Anyone care to discuss this sort of approach in general, please feel free.

sounds decent to me - maybe Niasse as your 3rd forward? he is cheap enough to bench for a while if you want..

Good article for people like me with no chips! Similar strategy to the one i was going for myself will try focus more on double gameweekers also with 35 fixture. Cheers

Likely to Wildcard in 32, despite being Free Hit-less.

35 doesn't seem to be a massive blank. 4 blanks should be relatively painless to navigate.

Interesting but I'm not overly interested in BUR assets. Loads of SGW players could easily outscore BUR dgw assets. They don't show enough in attack and are not as convincing defensively as they were earlier in the season.
