Community Watch: Semi-finals

The knockout stage of the Community Watch tournament took place in Gameweek 28, with Messidonia and Ibeland bowing out of the tournament after losing to Bolivia Giroud and Afghanistanislas respectively.

Knockout stage review

Bolivia Giroud faced Messidonia in the third vs sixth place  game. A solid wildcard from manager and captain Doosra, a 67 point effort from Gnu and good contributions from the rest of the team ensured the Giroud’s earned a 42 point win over the Messidons. The final score was 447 – 405. Bolivia will now face FNZ in the semis.

Afghanistanislas beat Ibeland by 46 points in the other knockout game and will now face Hungary Neville in the semis. The final score was 464 – 418. All of the Afghan team produced 50 + scores as they benched their three lowest scores and captained their manager Tets, who delivered 59 points. Ibeland had some decent scores but just couldn’t compete against the big Afghan scores.

Semifinals preview

FNZ vs Bolivia Giroud
Afghanistanislas vs Hungary Neville

League leaders FNZ play Bolivia Giroud in the first semifinal. These two teams met previously back in Matcheweek 7, with FNZ beating Bolivia by 84 points. Bolivia Giroud go into this tie on the back of five consecutive wins though, and are expected to put up a much bigger challenge for the league leaders.

Two of FFS community’s big guns, Doosra and Jarvish will lead their respective teams as both look to earn a final berth.

Elsewhere, Afghanistanislas take on Hungary Neville in the second semifinal. These two teams played each other back in Matchweek 11, with Hungary Neville edging that encounter by 10 points. Hungary Neville go into this game on the back of consecutive losses, while the Afghans have two wins in two. The Hungarians will still start as slight favourites, as they have absolutely dominated the tournament after their initial bad run. A mouthwatering encounter indeed.

Both these semi-finals take place in Gameweek 29. The deadline for submitting your line-up and captain is 3rd March FPL deadline time.

Well done the Afghans, we've been undone by the dunk side of probability.

Had a blast in this tourney despite ultumate failure, thanks to Jay for all updates, thanks to Spencer for his spreadsheets, thanks to all my team mates for putting up with my regular brainfarts, thanks to LeGod for making such a ragtag bunch of disparates from all corners of the globe come together, and of course and most importantly, thanks to the organisers, the hard work and time it takes to run these comps is very much appreciated.

Bears and rhinos don't always see eye to eye but I wholeheartedly agree with this. 😉 It's definitely been a blast, so much so that I can't imagine FPL without it. Organisers, we can't thank you enough! 😀

Couldn’t agree more. Special thanks to the organisers. Top work guys. I really will miss this tournament.

You would have been in the final as well if the semis used a normal 1 v 4 and 2 v 3 seeding format - very unlucky 🙁

The Afghan whatsapp group was something to behold when that Smalling goal went in. To quote Grant "MNF was made for nights like these".

Unlucky to Bolivia Giroud, you never seemed to really get going unfortunately this week, but you guys had a great run and were good value throughout.

Cheers, mate. Yeah, it's a shame we couldn't make it more of a contest. Very well deserved.

It's all about the journey, not the destination and all that. 😀

                Good luck in the final.

It was tremendous fun. We started out as a ragtag bunch and out of nowhere stormed up the table and picked up a chant, a music video, and a grav along the way. I look forward to Doosra dishing out some bespoke end of season awards!

We all know there is no double that you talk of 🙂 But we are not petty so we will let you hang on to your false victory. The only true victory is to be had this weekend.

Another great FFS tournament!! A massive thanks to FFS for running these comps. . Brings the FFS committee together.. keep up the great work.

Feel very lucky to Captain Hungary Neville team, really enjoyed the banter on whatsapp with the group. Massive shout out to Jay for live updates every week and Spencers spresdsheets, massive effort guys.

Unlucky fellas, so close, yet so far.. most unlikely of scorers to knock us out!! Duffy/Dunk/Smalling 🙁
