Captain Poll – Gameweek 30

While tonight’s Selhurst Park encounter concludes Gameweek 29, we are already looking ahead to the next set of fixtures with the launch of our latest Captain Poll.

Spurs frontman Harry Kane (12.9) has had to settle for second place to Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (10.5) in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) armband race in each of the last three Gameweeks.

But that may well change this time around. While Spurs travel to face a Bournemouth defence that has conceded more shots (99) than any side in the last six Gameweeks, Salah will face a testing trip to Old Trafford.

Kane’s form certainly warrants top billing. Over his last seven league run outs, he has found the net six times and racked up more shots (38), efforts in the box (29), attempts on target (20) and big chances (12) than any player.

His supporting cast of midfielders, Christian Eriksen (9.4), Dele Alli (8.9) and Son Heung-min (8.0) may also garner interest, the latter, in particular, following his weekend brace at home to Huddersfield. Eriksen’s three assists and goal over his last six away days also impresses.

Even though Liverpool take on the league’s meanest home defence, Salah’s impressive away record should ensure that he still mounts a serious challenge to Kane at the summit of our poll.

In front of their own fans, Jose Mourinho’s charges have conceded a league-low six goals and earned a record ten clean sheets. Meanwhile, on the road, the Egyptian has scored 11 and fired 20 shots on target, with only Kane (13 and 23) bettering those tallies.

Salah’s team-mate Roberto Firmino (9.4)’s seven goals and four assists away from Anfield make him another Reds asset set to attract attention, as do Sadio Mane’s (9.4) five goals in his last three run outs in all competitions.

Voters will be keeping a close eye on events at Selhurst Park tonight when Manchester United take on Crystal Palace before considering handing the armband to their assets.

Romelu Lukaku (11.2) will be among those most keenly watched after his recent return to form, with two goals and an assist in his last three league matches.

Interest in Arsenal assets may be muted this week as they head into a home match with Watford in awful form. Nevertheless, the Gunners boast strong home scoring form – only Man City (51 to 36) have found the net more often in front of their own fans.

Mesut Ozil (9.3)’s five assists and three successful strikes at the Emirates makes him an intriguing armband candidate. Patrick-Emerick Aubameyang (10.4) is another, after scoring his second goal in four Gameweeks against Brighton yesterday. His ineligibility for Arsenal’s Europa League campaign also means he will be free of rest and rotation worries.

Another London side in the doldrums is Chelsea, who have lost to Bournemouth and Watford over their last five league matches and failed to register a single on target shot in their away loss to Manchester City yesterday.

However, a home tie against Crystal Palace could prove far more profitable for Antonio Conte’s troops. Over their last four road trips, the Eagles have failed to keep a clean sheet and have shipped nine goals, with only West Ham and Everton conceding more often away from home over that timeframe.

After Chelsea’s poor attacking display yesterday, it seems likely that striker Alvaro Morata (10.4) will earn a recall. The Spaniard is currently his side’s top scorer at home in the league, with five goals.

Eden Hazard (10.6) is another strong differential captaincy candidate among the Blues assets. He was again frustrated by a false nine role at the Etihad Stadium but should be played up with either Morata or Giroud against Roy Hodgson’s side. The Belgian has three goals and an assist over his last four matches.

Manchester City’s sensational title charge should ensure that their players are also factors in the latest poll, even though they visit a Stoke backline that has shown impressive resilience of late. Over the last six Gameweeks, the Potters have earned three clean sheets and conceded just four times, the third-best record over that period.

With rotation anticipated for the midweek Champions League clash against FC Basel, though, City’s big-hitters could all profit at the bet365.

Should Gabriel Jesus start against the Swiss outfit, Sergio Aguero’s (11.9) looks a likely name on the teamsheet next Monday – he has eight goals in his last six starts.

David Silva (7.9) is another to impress recently, with a goal and assist across his last two starts, as has Leroy Sane (8.5), who delivered a 13-point return in his last road trip, against Arsenal in Gameweek 28.

The German is currently this week’s most popular transfer target, attracting 39,000 new FPL managers.

Meanwhile, Bernardo Silva (7.4)’s two goals and assist over the last four Gameweeks could even see some votes go his way. However, should Raheem Sterling (8.7) return from injury, the Portuguese could be one City player who may well succumb to rotation.

Riyad Mahrez (8.7)’s last-minute equaliser against Bournemouth on Saturday garners momentum for Leicester City’s trip to basement-dwellers West Brom. That free kick was the fourth time he had found the net in his last seven league starts; meanwhile, the Baggies have shipped a record 13 goals over the last six Gameweeks.

Another who may attract votes is West Ham’s Marko Arnautovic (7.0), who takes on a Burnley side that last kept a clean sheet in Gameweek 21. The Austrian has excelled for the Hammers with David Moyes at the helm, scoring seven times and assisting a further four goals over his last 11 run outs.

The poll is now live in the middle column on your homepage on desktop, or via the slide-in menu on mobile and tablet under recent comments.

Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later ahead of the Gameweek 30 deadline when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

not how many whom is the question

like we saw last year picking the right players could make an enormous impact but it need´nt be so difficult judge that in beforehand obviously. what i tend to do is to try to take a look at the fixture and see if there is any probabilities there in which yuo can possibly use to one owns advantage. Some players stand out as you certainly are aware of, like Salah, Firmino and a LIverpool player added to your liking, Shaqiri home to Everton looks like a good one.
My prediction based on what i´ve seen so far this season is that Huddersfield should have a decent chance to keep it clean vs Palace, mainly because of Palace neither scores nor produces many chances away from home and Huddersfield have been better lately. Bournmeouth should score vs West Brom so some of their attacking bunch could be producing some points, and as West Brom are toothless away Bournmeouth defender could be a decent shout. But West Brom good on set pieces and Bournemouth equally bad defending them so personally think less chance of cleanie there. Lots of Walcotters around and from what the numbers say Stoke-Everton looks like a blank for Everton and this a cleanie for Stoke. But all this could be otherwise and even if prediction is close to beeing correct it still depends on which player you pick. To conclude i will based on this probably go for double Stoke defence, Butland and Bauer, Schindler and maybe but just maybe Daniels if i´d take a minus. Staying away from both West Brom defence and Everton which could backfire but on the other hand having a double Stoke defence if they keep a cleanie is one of the things that could make a difference. Sorry for long post but hopefully something in it to be used

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

At last Salah has a worst fixture than others. Suddenly the armband is up for grabs.

What are your early thoughts on the captaincy?

    Is Kane the obvious choice?

Or are there better? Chelsea options at home to Palace? Man City away to Stoke or Mahrez against bottom side West Brom?

And for those that have captained Kane over Salah in recent weeks in search of a differential - will that same rationale now ironically apply to shunning the Spurs man? Is it better to target lower owned players such as Mahrez or Hazard and bank on the expected top captaincy choice Kane blanking yet again against a weak side?

        Easy for those leading.

But for chasers could they do better by going for another. Mahrez and Hazard look great options for example?

I captained Kane as a major differential back in 2015/16 when he scored a hattie away at Bournemouth: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/34632727. Turned my season around.

I'd never go anywhere else this week! Personal context but that always weighs on decisions 🙂

However - could be something in an MNF captain for City v Stoke, or maybe as you say a hail-Mary on Mahrez/Vardy could really bear fruit if Kane falls flat against the Cherries.

Its a tough one this week. The form tables aren't much help either.

Man U conceded 5 goals at home in the last 8 v Liverpool who have scored 22 away in the last 8
Bournmouth conceded 15 goals at home in the last 8 v Spurs who have only scored 12 away in the last 8

Salah may well hold onto the armband over Kane.

Mahrez could be an interesting one, not sure whether he is as good away though, and WBA are reasonably solid, its their attack which is awful. Hazard is a troll and has Barca away 3 days after - avoid. Stoke also decent at home defensively and City are not so potent away from home.

CHIPS STRATEGY - HAVE WE ALL* GOT IT WRONG?

So, I know that the "received wisdom" on here has been to plan for GW31 without FH with a view to using FH in 35. But, as a useful comparison, my ML leader has been completely ignoring GW31 with a view to FH in 31.

I have been actively targetting GW31 players since GW25 and in that period he has outscored me by 43 points overall. With triple City against Stoke next week we can probably assume he'll extend that next GW. Then we go into GW31 where I'll probably muster 11 players but that includes some fairly dodgy (in hindsight) picks wheareas with his FH chip he'll have the "optimum" team for that week - again, all things being equal, you'd expect him to outscore me. Let's assume that, by the end of GW31, he'll have outscored me by ballpark 60 points over the period 25-31 ...... will I really make that deficit (and hopefully more) over the 32-38 period?

Or have we all got the wrong strategy and the semi-casuals got it right (either by design or by accident - not realising there's a blank)?

    *OK, not all

    1. Now I'm Panicking
      • 9 Years

RP: I've been targeting GW31 players since GW25 too and my rank has gone from 47k to 21k. I could get 12 in GW31 without taking a hit. I might be a one-off, but blaming getting GW31 players for poor recent performance probably needs to be looked at in a wider sample.

      1. HNI
        • 11 Years

Your rise to 21k was mainly down to kun captaincy for 43 points. If a person had thought of planning according to blank he wouldnt even have had brought in kun.

I had Kun all along, and Kane. And have planned for GW31, having 8 players atm and 3FT to go.

Besides the stoopid Son galore this GW I have steadily rose in rank from GW25. GW26-28 I got 228 points. I do believe that is above average, and acceptable.

Too much is being made of GW31 in my opinion. As long as you have 3 Liverpool players and captain Salah you can't go too far wrong. The average will likely be mid 20s and the diefference between a great score and a decent one probably only 15 points or so.
People bringing in Siggy, Walcott, or Huddersield and Stoke players seem a but mad to me. They'll only outscore the non-players by 1 or 2 points

I'm still up for preserving my free hit for GWK 35 as makes navigating the double gameweek sandwich easier.

But do also think that GWK 31 can be better planned for focusing on only the best blank assets early. Stocking up early on Everton players for example is proving costly - a trap I've fallen into with Niasse.

Also a mixture of strategies is a good idea - focus on some non blankers as well. So for example while I did boo-boo with Niasse I've used my latest transfer on a Spurs asset - Davies - as I think he'll reward me v Bou and already has against Hudd.

I kept hold of my three city too....in Otamendi's case that's worked, less said about Sterling the better.

Those that got Mahrez in last week have also done well.

GWK 31 is really all about Salah (c), Firmino and another Liv player plus Shaqiri. The rest are so poor or low owned that swerving them certainly won't harm rank that week.

I agree with everything you've said there, but there is another way of looking at that last sentence. Whereas its true that rank is unlikely to be harmed much by only owning 3 pool + Shaqiri, I think there are opportunities to be had elsewhere. Schindler and Butland are scoring very well in BPS recently, its quite conceivable that with Palace hit by injury, (particularly Zaha), and Everton so poor away from home, clean sheets for those 2 could bring in 18 points and a nice rank boost. From an attacking point of view Pritchard at Huddersfield has potential, as do bournemouth at home to the league's worst side.

For a 1 week punt before a wildcard its surely worth a gamble isn't it? Even if you bring in 4 players, and they all play and blank its only a net -8. You would only need one of them to return to break even too.

I must admit I owned Schindler before the GWK 31 fixtures were decided. Butland and Mane my only targets currently to add to my cohort that week.

Targeting whoever faces Everton is always a good idea, especially when they are away.

Yeah me too, its not been great from him yet has it? lol. But with 2 good fixtures to come I'm fairly hopeful of a clean sheet in at least 1 of them.

Looks wise, I went for Robertson ahead of this week to max out on Pool so no Mane. Hoping that they can match each other!

I think that only applies to when Everton are away. At home, Everton have won 5, drawn 2 and lost only 1 under Allardyce. They have scored 15 goals and let in just 6.

Well ur bavies move was a fail as u shipped Duffy or u could have played Bauer. Similarly I shipped son 2 weeks ago which was the correct move last week but over last 2 weeks he has outscored mahrez or Eriksen. So atleast aiming for more gw31 players(benchable players) or saving free transfers could have been better instead of searching for a boost in rank with the likes of erik mahrez bavies which hasn't greatly paid off as its very short term

Ive planned for 31 and Shaqiri bauer deeney all done ok. Pickford Wilson not so much but at the time they were both decent options regardless of 31. I just cant get excited bout fhc 31 coz the differentials just aren't that explosive

My rank has also fallen but the players I have signed have done ok (Mane last 2, Coleman this week) and the players sold have not scored any better on the whole. It's my lack of Firmino for ages and poor defence of non GW31 cheapies which has hurt my rank the most.

          Duplication should read:

I also took a Sanchez punt and captained him instead of Kun when he scored 4. Long story short I will have 8 playing for GW31 and the only reason my rank has fallen was poor - non GW31 related -choices since Jan transfer window

I've been deliberately ignoring GW31 and am going to use the free hit, but it still hasn't helped me. I've dropped around 100k places in the last few weeks due to gambling on differentials like Sanchez and Mhki, and Vardy over Firmino. I just think GW35 might see a lot of rotation and it'll be difficult to get the same gains as it will be in GW31. And also I don't have my wildcard so am building now for the double in GW34

          This...

There will be other players who will score points, either offensive or defensive. People seem to forget that.
The only problem is - you don't know who those players will be. There are plenty of candidates (Shaquiri, Allen, Choupo, Diouf, Wilson, Stanislas, King, Walcott, Siggy, Niasse, Milli, Benteke, maybe even Zaha).

I think using the FH in 31 will just maximize the chance for you to "catch" the player(s) that will have a field day (this year's equivalent to King last year) and you can make decent gains over the ones fielding 7-10 players (20+ points is a good gain I would say).

Yeah, that's the issue, picking out the right players for GW31. But you'd think that taking the free hit would give you more chance of doing that than putting players in a few weeks before who might suffer a loss of form by the time GW31 comes round.

Yes, exactly. All those players are inconsistent so getting them for a long stretch of time is a bad idea.

However, getting ALL of them for one game week only will maximize the chance of getting the one or two of them who deliver.

I would suspect that your rival will also have 11 or 12 DGW players for DGW34 without needing to even use the WC in 32/33 because he has already stocked up whilst you (in comparison) gather the 3rd/4th def/mid type dross for BGW31.

Liverpool, City/Swansea/Spurs, Arsenal, Burnley, WHU etc all have a double and play in the blank week so he is even covering the GW35 blank 😉

In past seasons I've torn up perfectly good teams for a handful of BWk points. So I decided quite early on to FH31, mainly because I knew I'd get myself in trouble by trying to gamble on dodgy players.

It's gone ok so far. I've brought in Mane, Maguire, Davies and Arnie, and more importantly, I haven't felt the need to sell Son.

But what I like best about FH31 + WC33 is that it allows me to now bring in one or two absolute potshots. Maybe Deeney (ars - FH - BOU) or even Gayle (SOU - FH - HUD) ?

In short, I haven't quite racked up the points like your rival, but it's been fun, flexible and has felt more "normal" than shouting at the useless Walcott on TV.

FH chip seems to have become a facilitating chip rather than a pt gatherer.Whichever week it's being used it's more about preserving points either side of the week it's being used.
Those that used it early were targetting specific weeks with good fixtures to gain pts.
Now it's being used to minimize losses between GWs - particularly DGWs.
Those holding for GW35 could just easily make the same scores as those in 31 if the fixture disruption is similar.
Advantage of 35 simply seems to be the the maximization of WC selections pre-DGWs.
Use it in 31 and you either have to adjust WC selections to allow for 35 or write off 35 as you don't have the time option to prepare for 35 as you've had for 31.

This is the first year we've had the FH chip so we're all still trying to work out the best approach, in combination with the other chips, the DGWs and the "blanks" - it's quite complicated and there are many possible combinations.

We may have a better idea in hindsight which was the better way but even then this might not apply to next season as every season is different!

It'll go one of two ways - Free Hitters in GW31 will get a score in the 70s and look at us with our mid 30s scores and tell us that GW31 was obviously the best strategy for Free Hit, or they'll get scores in the low 40s and not be seen for weeks. Either way FFS will be full of 'I told you so' posts.

I think those that have lost rank lately have not done so because of GW31 at all.

There's been some disappointments from GW31 players for sure, but at the same time there's been a lot of players rising in form with GW31. Shaqiri, Deeney, Mané, Milivojevic and Mounie have been on strong runs. Watford, Stoke and Liverpool have been racking up CS while they've been drying up elsewhere. Would you have gotten these players without the GW31 advantage?

What would people have done with Firmino if they didn't know he had a GW31 fixture? I dared to take him out with that knowledge, and that has set me behind in by double digits of points. I'm sure a lot more would've done the same mistake.

I think the main reason people have done poorly recently is the template of GW22. Alonso, Jones, Otamendi, Son, Sterling, Lingard, Arnautovic and Kane have been a disastrous combination, and people had to get rid of the wrong players rather than transferring in the right ones.

I have been trying to calculate or consider best way to approach gw31. This week looking at 66 pts and Alexis to go. Robertson and Mané have been ok. I also have been able to climb with my poor OR and managed to catch others in my mini league.

Mahrez got lucky with very late goal and Wilson has been poor. But even in hindsight Walcott had his chances to score and Wilson might have given the penalty. Had that happened I could smile. Shaqiri in would also have helped.

Atm I have 7 gw31 players and Schindler for Chilwell is likely next move. According to bookies HUD are likely to keep at least one cs in next two. After that is time to think again who are worth taking a hit.

Anyway, risks in taking in players for a hit for bgw is much safer differential than not captaining Kane imo.

I think some people will make the mistake of shipping players for GW31 assets who they're going to want back when they wildcard in GW 32/33 (Mahrez for example) but will have to pay that extra 0.1 or 0.2 for them that time around. Maximising funds is important ahead of wildcarding.

        That's true.
I've been trying to avoid selling players that I will want back on my wildcard and that I would lose money on.
I'll still probably still replace Kane with Firmino for GW31, despite probably having to pay 0.2m more to get him back, but I wouldn't do that any earlier, and owning both would require major surgery.
And I'm not sure whether keeping Sterling in order to avoid losing money on him was the best idea, since I am now having doubts about whether he really deserves to be in my wildcard squad.

Maybe in hindsight. Maybe if you didn't start it early enough. Maybe.

For me, it has worked fine- my transfers in have been VVD and Bauer, and I've gambled on getting Mahrez in 2 weeks ago with a view to disposing of him (or more likely benching him and disposing of Sterling) for 31.

So it can have worked by now - I already had Shaqiri, Walcott and a benched attacker in Crouch, and will have taken -8 in hits over 4 weeks to have 10 out for 31.

I think it was Jonty this last week who mentioned that as long it was fringe players who could be benched, it wasnt a problem. I think this is the crux of the issue, any 50/50 choice for the lesser players in our squads seems to go to the GW31 player rather than to be best players for that position/price. This means that the 5 or 6 BGW players (in addition to the Liverpool 3) are not even the 'best of the rest' that we normally try to have in out team.

Andy is a big fan of fielding full teams in blank game-weeks and the maximum number of DGW players in DGWs. That's just the way he likes to play.

He's on a run of red arrows at the moment, and some of those players do not look like great choices, but he somehow still manages to finish well above me most seasons.

Numb, I don't think your strategy of planning for FHC for gw35 is wrong,if I had the FHC still that's when I'd play it.
what your rival has done is ignore gw31 players whereas you've probably got 8 already and may have planned to get 10 or 11.
      that's the real difference.
a 60 pt gap over 6 weeks from gwk32 will be easy for you to close.that's only 10 pts more per week than him.
how is he going to manage gwk 35 compared to your fhc team where you will get more choice with better players

I couldn't agree more. Of course there will be exceptions (Jarvish etc) but in general the gw31 options have been rough to own. It was exactly the same last season, with people stocking up on West Brom and Bournemouth players for weeks in advance. I think people have been really blinkered on the whole and it's costing us. I wasted my FH earlier in the season (totally my fault) but I've no doubt that gw31 would have been the best option. I posted about this topic earlier with a bit more detail so feel free to see my post history for a bit more thinking on this. Next season I'll be strongly leaning towards FH in the biggest blank gw.

Incidentally I've also out together a gw32 WC team that allows for 11 players in 35 and I think it looks pretty handy...

Personally I'm following the strategy of Numb's mini-league leader and using the FH in GW31, a strategy I think works particularly well if you don't have your WC left. It's something I've tweeted about it a couple of time @Heroes_FPL . My rationale is exacly as Numb says in that by ignoring GW31 it allows you to focus on making the optimal transfers for the here and now (and also for the potential DGW34 if you don't have a WC) without being influenced by the significantly reduced fixture list, containing mostly 'weaker' teams, in GW31. I also think there is a good case for making decisions based on what we 'know' now and then reacting to the changing circumstances as and when the GW35 fixtures are confirmed.

I think you are perhaps conflating two doubts over the contrasting strategies. The first is using FH in GW31 - as opposed to GW35 - while the second simply asks if GW31 assets have been worthwhile at all. Unless something unusual happens in those two GW (or the FA qtrs), you're more likely to gain from a FH team in GW35.

But undeniably the players who did look decent for GW31 haven't done well apart from a few exceptions.

The issue I had is that a few weeks ago I tried to put together a free hit team in 31 that I wanted and really struggled to find 11 decent players! So now I'm planning to FH in 35.

But the problem is that I've been stuck with players like Daniels, Kenny, and Quaner who I haven't bothered ditching because they all (potentially) play in 31 and that has really hit me hard over the last few weeks with injuries to players such as Jones and Sterling meaning I've got to play these useless bench players. Needless to say they would all have been long gone if they didn't play in 31.

If you look at the top 20 in FPL Form
      https://fantasy.premierleague.com/a/statistics/form
it is not exactly the collection of good picks that many are posting have been overlooked, with the last two Dream Teams being an even more motley crew. I'd argue that only a Spurs defender from that list is a clear case of a player with a BGW that might have been missed, though 2/3 CS during their gauntlet against the big clubs could be considered a bit of a surprise.

Yes, many have ignored Ki, Murray, and Antonio at their own peril, but it is hard to justify those picks over a Watford mid, a Bournemouth forward, or an Everton mid, even in hindsight.

      6 years, 2 months ago

Actively transferring for the double that far out is doing it wrong imo. You end up making judgements of average player X for 7 weeks vs good player for 6 weeks. At some point maybe a couple of weeks out it becomes 3 weeks of average vs 2 weeks of better and it'll make sense then but its only when you get close that the advantage of the extra week really emerges.

Taking this into account, you may realise you'd only get 6 or 7 players out without hits in 31 so you'd likely take 3 or 4 hits for the blank week lottery. This is fine and knowing the majority of the payback will be in 31 for the hits you can start to plan them in early if they make sense. With Eriksen my main target last week for Spurs' stretch of 3 good fixtures I effectively took a -8 on VVD and Mane who I knew I'd end up with sooner or later and I've been happy to have them these last two gameweeks. But perhaps most importantly accepting the hits would come I left myself free to get hazard for a couple of hauls weeks earlier.

To tie GW35 back into the conversation, playing it either way we should expect to take hits for the week we don't play the Free Hit. Trying to plot a path between DGW34 and DGW37 I felt 35 would cost me more hits so I chose to Free Hit then and eat the costs of 31.

      nope.
Chances are the ppg & form of periphery players being brought in would be under 4.
A hit for a player you'll probably use for a single GW. Normal rules for a hit is you'll atleast cover the -4 over a couple of GWs.
Making sure you're not losing value on player (s) being sold.

Can focus on getting DGW34 and 37 players while ignoring the blank they have on 35

      1. Darklord_bg

        6 years, 2 months ago

And how many players like that are there?

Most likely ManU, Chelsea and Spurs. I wouldn't get 3 players each from those teams. a ManU defender (Lukaku the only attacking asset immune to rotation, but too expensive) Chelsea defender and probably Hazard (again, heavy rotation in attack), Kane and maybe Vert or Son (but again - rotation, rotation, rotation). There are very few players from those teams with assured two fixtures in the DGWs and likely to produce points at the same time - 5 players at most. And those 5 players can be easily swapped/out or even benched in GW35, and gotten back in 37 with a couple of hits.

In short, I'm feeling 35/37 will be much easier to manage without FH than 31, where you might miss on the 1-2 surprise players who bring in big points.

I’m also considering it for one of the DGWs so that I can have a very strong 11 and cheapest bench. No longer have my TC so it’s also an option

Scout Pick Community Champion Lottery – Gameweek 30

Once again we are on the look out for a champion to represent the community to take on the Scout Picks and win the chance of a prize.

If you want to take part please email your FFS name and FPL ID number to community@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk .

The champion will be selected at random at 8:30am Wednesday and then asked to submit their XI by 10am by Friday by emailing me at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

We only need 11 picks and please be mindful of the 84m budget. There’s no captain in the picks either and please stick to a designated FPL formation, including no more than three players from one team. No captain or chips will be applied.

At the end of the season the champion who beats the picks by the highest margin will win a £100 Amazon voucher.

The champion will be revealed in a midweek Scout Squad article, which will outline our initial thinking around the picks. Our and the champions picks will be revealed as usual in the Scout Picks article.

Should the community “Champion” fail to provide an initial or final Scout Pick selection, then an “Assistant Manager” chosen by us, will gain control of the selection to represent the community for the Gameweek in question.

The Norwegians for me, but those running the Community Competition (not just Speedy) should get some sort of separate official reward/recognition as (which I know from experience) this takes hours of time and unrecognised hard work behind the scenes purely for the good of the community, and is amazingly popular and one of the USPs for FFS.

Maybe I’m more “risk adverse” but surely punting on captaincy options to gain rank/chase ML doesn’t seem to be worth the risk/reward?
Surely captaining someone for the sake of them being “different” over someone that’s scoring well, in form and also likely highly owned is counterintuitive?
Surely it’s more ideal to gain rank/chase ML by getting differential periphery players?
    Discuss....
