After a tough qualification round, involving more than 2,000 managers, the time has come to reveal who has made it through to the first round  of our open-to-all Fantasy Premier League Cup competition.

A score of 60 points, with a rank of 211,070 or below for those who hit that score exactly, was needed to become one of the 512 managers to progress from Gameweek 29’s qualification draw.

Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Newcastle United saw HC Villa become the lucky manager to just scrape through. He successfully transferred in Reds left back Andrew Robertson, captained goal scorer Mohamed Salah and also earned an assist from Roberto Firmino.

Meanwhile, there is disappointment for our moderator Pukka-Geoff, who is 11th in the Career Hall of Fame. He scored 60 but just missed the cut due to his rank of 215,338.

In our previous cup, winner TH14 joined Sleepysi, Gribude, MCH, A Manager Has No Name, Mark, TH14, Wild Rover, Gooner Dave, CMIFLFC and myself in seeing their name on the cup.

Mark was particularly fortunate – gaining his bye with a 44-point total that was woefully short of the qualifying mark. He will need to improve if he is to progress past the opening round. He faces 592,201 ranked Khumz in his first tie.

Meanwhile, the 10,138 ranked reigning champion is among the favourites to make it through to the second round after drawing DaFoe22, who is 379,523 places behind him.

Sleepysi is another former champion who will be confident of progress. He is ranked a lofty 2,579 while his opponent BowenArrow is currently placed 48,461 in the world.

Gribude is just outside the top 5,000 and squares up to 53,866 placed Kirton Hoops, MCH takes on a SADIO SANÉ steered outfit that is ranked 128,450 placed behind him and my 1,644 placed side collides with 48,922 ranked BALLDONTLIE.

A Manager Has No Name, who is at the 5,281 mark in the overall standings, has arguably the most favourable tie among our former champions when he meets dupper9, who with a placing of 2,909,460 is the lowest ranked manager in the tournament.

The first round looks far trickier to navigate for Wild Rover, who is ranked 147,484 places behind his opponent McMurphy. Goonerdave (rank 259,377) also has a tricky encounter with 73,105 placed 2 Girls 1 Shlup.

CMIFLFC is another champion that may struggle. With a 1,904,353 rank he is the fifth lowest placed manager in the competition and takes his beleaguered troops into battle with Jon Nurse’s high-flying, 7,296 placed side.

Other notable match ups include 19,728 placed TorresMagic™’s tie with mooimachicken (rank 202,903) and our 4,322 ranked tech guru matzi11a’s clash with DAZZ (rank 93,016).

There’s also an intriguing derby when greghammer95 faces MC Hammer.

The first round features four managers in the top 100 of the overall rankings, howsheref (rank 78), davidoff7 (rank 93), Leaf (rank 97) and thisisdiz (rank 98).

The unlucky managers to take on this elite quartet are respectively 27,399 placed Nani R U OK, 43,700 ranked Grock United, 981,978 placed Duffy Dunk and Hoos01, who is 105,847 overall.

The full first round draw can be found here.

After last nights performance is anyone thinking of not captaining Kane? Looking at the underlying stats I think I might take a punt on Walcott

Could pay off having a differential captain this week. Although kane has previous v Bournemouth

After last nights performance i will captain Kane, wouldnt if Spurs qualified. They need a big win and BOUs defence is ideal.

Why? He was awful and they will be hurting

I dont agree that he was awful, he was the reason Son found that space and created many chances by taking two defenders to hold him. Plus he had 2 big chances and was unlucky to not score in both. Either way good luck with Walcott i believe he has potential but dont trust his team at all.

The only payer I own that I would consider captaining instead is Hazard, but I've been burnt by him too many times before

      Definitely Kane.

I don't want to miss another one of his hauls and the weekend's game is a possibility for such.

gotta keep faith in Arnie for longer and wouldnt get rid of ddg....id be more keen to get rid of Aguero at this point, a lot of money for someone that may get rotated now and city will concentrate on champs....maybe firminho is needed? upgrade your 5th midfielder? or bardsley?

Is there merits in not wildcarding GW32 and just free hit GW31 instead?

Just seems that my team is okay and can not see much difference on wildcard and nothing two or three tranfers couldn't sort out.

    DDG
    Naughton Otamemdi Ogbanna
    Miki Mahrez Son Sterling Salah
    Firmino Kane

    Elliot Hegazi Kenny Wilson

    (All chips in tact)

My theory is for a -4 this week I would do the following

    GW30 Kane(could bite me i know) sterling > Walcott Aguero (-4)

    GW31 Free hit

    GW32 2 tranfers (-4)

    Happy days 🙂

You need to weigh up the big picture in terms of how you plan for doubles and blank 35, and when you play B.B. and TC (if available). Can’t take the decision in isolation.

But with only 4 playing in 31 (Kenny unlikely) the best gain for FH could be next week

Niasse to King worth using Ft on next week?
(if he blanks & is benched again this week)

Hes my 7th attacker for Gw31.
So if I keep him and sell Kane for King I will have to bench Niasse anyway.

    A) Shaqiri (MCI)

My God, bench Dawson. I'm actually excited about VVD's potential this week. And then I'd probably go C, with Pritchard for choice. We've got to get some info on his fitness first, though.

Put Niasse last on your bench, btw. I'm both a Toffee and a co-owner and there's no way he's starting.

Don't bother with Shaq this week.. taking sterling out depends on how much you lose in the value.. as long as you've a nailed starter 1st on bench I'd save.

I currently have 1 FT and 8 DGW players including triple Liverpool and Shaqiri. I also plan to WC in GW33 so the GW32 fixtures are relevant for this decision.

    Sterling ->

    A) Sane (stk, blank, eve)
    B) Mahrez (wba, blank, bha)
    C) Walcott (BHA, stk, MCI)

Could sell or bench Walcott in 32.

have same problem, can't really decide between A and B (have Walcott) Leaning towards A, as higher ceiling. But then Mahrez is nailed, whereas there's always a rotation risk with Sané

Surely wait for City presser to see if Sterling likely to play? If he's fit there's every chance he gets on the scoresheet even if he doesn't start

Also holding will give you the luxury of 2FT next week which is always good to have even not before a BGW

Sorry not sure but it will be tomorrow and before transfer deadline so why jump to swap out Sterling before that is my view

On the other hand .... Sterling vs STK who won't roll over so easily this time I reckon OR Mahrez vs an abysmal WBA .... it's definitely tempting!

    Thoughts for GW30:

Stoke v Man City: beware assuming that Stoke will roll over and capitulate like last time (7-2 at the Etihad). Lambert's Stoke are a stubborn beast, and could easily frustrate, even if they still eventually lose. Kun captainers caveat emptor.

Bournemouth v Spurs: Poch will have them raring to go again; motivation won't be in doubt given that they need to keep momentum in the league. Bournemouth will attack them, and leave space on the counter. Both teams to score; Kane will feature on the scoreboard.

Man U v Liverpool: Mourinho will seek to clog up the midfield and spring the counter attack with pace. Martial, Sanchez to staet either side of Lukaku and Pogba to be given license to raid forward. I predict an exciting game but not full of goals.

Conclusion: Captain Kane, you'll be fine.
