Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang emerged from a lacklustre first-half Arsenal performance to plunder a brace of goals and reward his wave of recent investors.

Arsenal ran out 3-0 winners over Stoke City on Sunday, a flattering scoreline after a woeful showing in the first period.

Aubameyang had struggled to feature in that opening spell but sprung to life in the second-half.

Having earlier been denied by a Jack Butland save from a one-on-one, he converted a first Arsenal penalty before firing home from a cleared Mesut Ozil corner.

Along with maximum bonus points, that rewarded his new owners with a 13-point return, his biggest haul so far since arriving in the Premier League.

It could have been even better, with the striker allowing Alexandre Lacazette the responsibility to convert Arsenal’s second penalty for their third goal. Aubameyang explained post-match why he surrendered duties to his team-mate, even though that decision denied him his first Arsenal hat-trick…

“I know that Laca is back and I’d scored twice, so I wanted to let him score. It’s normal. I think it’s good for his confidence, and that’s why.”

Over 362,000 managers swooped for Aubameyang ahead of Gameweek 32, identifying the encounter with Stoke, along with the Emirates Stadium clash with Southampton to follow, as ideal opportunities to profit.

Some 195,000+ – just 27.6% of his total ownership – also handed the Gabon international their captaincy.

With the top two armband selections – Mohamed Salah (34.4%) and Romelu Lukaku (13.4%) – producing seven and eight points respectively, Aubameyang’s backers will be delighted with the outcome.

Cup-tied for Thursday’s Europa League tie with CSKA Moscow, the striker will now get another opportunity to maintain a run of four goals in three Gameweeks when he faces the ailing Southampton defence on Sunday. We may even see more of his owners trust him with the captaincy for that encounter.

While Aubameyang will be protected from rotation in Gameweek 33, Arsene Wenger’s line-up will likely remain difficult to predict.

Today’s tweaks from the Arsenal boss involved both Laurent Koscielny and Henrikh Mkhitaryan dropping to the bench in preparation for Thursday’s tie. Aaron Ramsey returned from injury to earn a start alongside the recalled Jack Wilshere as part of Wenger’s changes.

The teamsheet for Thursday’s tie, along with the minutes played and the outcome, will now all be key to anticipating changes for next Sunday’s meeting with the Saints.

Arguably, Mkhitaryan should be well placed for a start. The 99,000+ who brought him in for Gameweek 32 will hoping that this proves to be the case, though some may look to avoid that risk by shipping him ahead of next weekend’s deadline.

Mustafi delivers

In defence, a second successive clean sheet helped Shkodran Mustafi earn two bonus points to produce an eight-point return to follow on from his 12 against Watford.

Some 50,000 new owners will be content with that, though some argued that the German could have earned an assist for Aubameyang’s second goal.

It was deemed that Mustafi failed to get a touch on Ozil’s crossed corner, though regardless, the clearance from Erik Pieters appeared to significantly alter the path of the ball before Aubameyang converted from ten yards out.

It was Nacho Monreal who went into Sunday’s contest as the most popular Gunners defender. He claimed 72,000+ new managers to return his first clean sheet since Gameweek 18. The Spaniard has, however, been limited to just six starts over that run.

Mustafi will likely continue to offer the most secure route into Wenger’s backline. The injury concerns surrounding both Monreal and Koscielny are set to continue to make them candidates for rest while the European campaign continues.

Petr Cech is another currently nursing an injury problem; he missed out on Sunday due to a “sore groin” and will likely be “short” for Thursday’s tie according to Wenger.

Butland excels

Despite the 3-0 margin, Stoke City’s Jack Butland was again their standout performer.

He made eight saves, his second highest tally of the season, to register another two save points.

Incredibly, Butland has now collected save points in 14 of his last 15 Gameweek matches, producing 23 points from stops in total.

Elsewhere for Stoke, there remains little to tempt Fantasy interest.

Paul Lambert’s side are without a Double Gameweek and have testing fixtures over the next four (TOT whu BUR liv).

Indeed, the 11.0% owned Xherdan Shaqiri has already soared to rank third for sales ahead of Gameweek 33.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Decided to just play the immediate fixtures rather than make some grand long plan. FH in 34 looks likely but will have to sacrifice points for GW 35 and GW 37.

His goal involvement so far is insane.

You would expect Arsenal to beat Southampton at home so I think points are very likely.

Do you mean this GW? Auba benefited from a ridiculous penalty decision while I'm led to believe (didn't watch it) that Liverpool had a stonewall penalty denied? I don't think you can go wrong with either but if you're asking for a better choice then Salah is probably the only name I can come up with.

Although... if Poch confirms Kane will start next week I'll probably bottle it and stick it on him!

It's funny because before today the narrative was that he was worth every penny.

To be fair, he did get forward today and looked threatening offensively.

He and Chelsea are terrible defensively though.

I kept Alonso in wildcard team this week but now tempted to get rid to free up cash for Jesus > Kane in 34. Worried that Emerson will start to get some minutes now that 4th place is pretty much gone.

Yeah it's really awkward. Trying not to think about it until the 37 fixtures are 100% confirmed. I may even WC in 34, and use TC in a SGW. That seems to go against all logic, but actually there is an argument for it for how my team is set up. Else it's 33 and struggle through 35/36 or use it 36 and miss out on some key players in 34.

Same as every other GW. In an hour or 4.

Who would you rather have for GW34, Gross or Lingard?

Leaning towards Lingard as Gross has a horrible double in 37 and surely he is playing himself into being nailed?

      Prefer Lingard myself

      Lingard

Tough one. I actually prefer Gross as more secure but Lingard could easily pay off big time

78 points and best gw rank of the season.
Needed this after not capping Salah last gw.

After not capping Salah last week, I imagine your season is already over?

Not really. Top of all my leagues and 80k ish....not too bad.

Kidding bro, decent score this week. You need some tougher league opponents next season though 😉 Nah I bottled it last minute (thankfully)!! I'd have deleted my team if I did! Lol.

I went with Mane that week, not the worst pick but an idiotic decisiom, in hindsight.
im thankful for opps I have...easy money!!
I'd be happy to make top 50k this year. Too many flop cap choices this season...switched over to Salah from Auba this week too.

7 points from 9 gws from Alonso not to mention losing 0.2, why are people still getting him on a WC?

    1. Pep's Money Laundry

      Have you watched him recently?

He could have had 2 or 3 goals today. Sooner or later those points will come, its worth a gamble

I'll admit I did Valencia/Alonso hokey cokey on a WC but having owned Alonso I knew I was kidding myself by keeping Alonso.

Because some people telling us how wonderful he is and how awful it is watching Chelsea if you don’t have him but an epic fail in 2018.

53 (-8) for me this week and a fall to 734k lol. 🙂

    Current team for next week

    DDG
    Dunk Morgan Christensen Mee
    Salah Zaha Mahrez
    Auba (C) Firmino Wilson

    bench: Adrian, Shaq, VVD, Kenedy.

Should I sell Wilson and shaq to king and Kane for a -4 or hold?

    Cheers

Double Chelsea defence is crazy IMO. I'd ditch Alonso and use the money to upgrade Firmino to Kane if possible.

I've been an Alonso non-owner for most of the season and it has been really scary, should've scored today too

Yeah I agree tbh. He looked threatening offensively today as he always does. Great finish for his offside goal. That said, how scary is it going to be if you don't own Kane lol?

Which transfer to fund Kaku->Kane (later in the week)?

    A. Son -> 7.1 mid
    B. Alonso -> Vertonghen

Hmm. B seems the obvious one but then if you have Kane would Son still be as appealing?

Son to Willian or Lingard maybe a shout?

    Random info of the day.

The longest away trip in the world took place today as Baltika Kaliningrad travelled about 10,000 km to meet Luch Vladivostok in the second division in Russia.
The gamed ended 0-0, of course.

    DDG - Pereira
    Keane - Lowton - Schindler - Francis - Hunemeier
    Salah - Mane - Mahrez - Walcott - Stanislas
    Aubameyang - Firmino - King

1 FT and 3.5m in the bank.

    A. Stanislas + Schindler ➡ Sane + Mustafi for -4
    B. Stanislas + Francis ➡ Sane + Kiko for -4?
    C. Something else?

P.S. - Players I get in have to play in GW 35.
