Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang emerged from a lacklustre first-half Arsenal performance to plunder a brace of goals and reward his wave of recent investors.

Arsenal ran out 3-0 winners over Stoke City on Sunday, a flattering scoreline after a woeful showing in the first period.

Aubameyang had struggled to feature in that opening spell but sprung to life in the second-half.

Having earlier been denied by a Jack Butland save from a one-on-one, he converted a first Arsenal penalty before firing home from a cleared Mesut Ozil corner.

Along with maximum bonus points, that rewarded his new owners with a 13-point return, his biggest haul so far since arriving in the Premier League.

It could have been even better, with the striker allowing Alexandre Lacazette the responsibility to convert Arsenal’s second penalty for their third goal. Aubameyang explained post-match why he surrendered duties to his team-mate, even though that decision denied him his first Arsenal hat-trick…

“I know that Laca is back and I’d scored twice, so I wanted to let him score. It’s normal. I think it’s good for his confidence, and that’s why.”

Over 362,000 managers swooped for Aubameyang ahead of Gameweek 32, identifying the encounter with Stoke, along with the Emirates Stadium clash with Southampton to follow, as ideal opportunities to profit.

Some 195,000+ – just 27.6% of his total ownership – also handed the Gabon international their captaincy.

With the top two armband selections – Mohamed Salah (34.4%) and Romelu Lukaku (13.4%) – producing seven and eight points respectively, Aubameyang’s backers will be delighted with the outcome.

Cup-tied for Thursday’s Europa League tie with CSKA Moscow, the striker will now get another opportunity to maintain a run of four goals in three Gameweeks when he faces the ailing Southampton defence on Sunday. We may even see more of his owners trust him with the captaincy for that encounter.

While Aubameyang will be protected from rotation in Gameweek 33, Arsene Wenger’s line-up will likely remain difficult to predict.

Today’s tweaks from the Arsenal boss involved both Laurent Koscielny and Henrikh Mkhitaryan dropping to the bench in preparation for Thursday’s tie. Aaron Ramsey returned from injury to earn a start alongside the recalled Jack Wilshere as part of Wenger’s changes.

The teamsheet for Thursday’s tie, along with the minutes played and the outcome, will now all be key to anticipating changes for next Sunday’s meeting with the Saints.

Arguably, Mkhitaryan should be well placed for a start. The 99,000+ who brought him in for Gameweek 32 will hoping that this proves to be the case, though some may look to avoid that risk by shipping him ahead of next weekend’s deadline.

Mustafi delivers

In defence, a second successive clean sheet helped Shkodran Mustafi earn two bonus points to produce an eight-point return to follow on from his 12 against Watford.

Some 50,000 new owners will be content with that, though some argued that the German could have earned an assist for Aubameyang’s second goal.

It was deemed that Mustafi failed to get a touch on Ozil’s crossed corner, though regardless, the clearance from Erik Pieters appeared to significantly alter the path of the ball before Aubameyang converted from ten yards out.

It was Nacho Monreal who went into Sunday’s contest as the most popular Gunners defender. He claimed 72,000+ new managers to return his first clean sheet since Gameweek 18. The Spaniard has, however, been limited to just six starts over that run.

Mustafi will likely continue to offer the most secure route into Wenger’s backline. The injury concerns surrounding both Monreal and Koscielny are set to continue to make them candidates for rest while the European campaign continues.

Petr Cech is another currently nursing an injury problem; he missed out on Sunday due to a “sore groin” and will likely be “short” for Thursday’s tie according to Wenger.

Butland excels

Despite the 3-0 margin, Stoke City’s Jack Butland was again their standout performer.

He made eight saves, his second highest tally of the season, to register another two save points.

Incredibly, Butland has now collected save points in 14 of his last 15 Gameweek matches, producing 23 points from stops in total.

Elsewhere for Stoke, there remains little to tempt Fantasy interest.

Paul Lambert’s side are without a Double Gameweek and have testing fixtures over the next four (TOT whu BUR liv).

Indeed, the 11.0% owned Xherdan Shaqiri has already soared to rank third for sales ahead of Gameweek 33.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Dismayed to see a lot of Auba to Kane.

Downgrade the likes of Son and Willian and get Kane in.

    Or sell Lukaku.

Do you have a stake in Aub? By holding are you not just getting a nice differential vs the kaners? I think it’s good news for us aub holders 🙂

He scores goals all the time, and is nailed on.

He has a great SGW in 34 vs Newcastle as well

I think he’s a cracking option. Glad to hold him. That said, I think it’s tough if you only have one elite slot in attack to not move for lukakane in 35. But sure he’ll serve his owners well whilst lukaku gets 2+2.

Why are people so enthusiastic over Aubameyang? Ok, two goals, a pen and a deflection from a corner, but he was pretty bad the whole game. I have him too, planned to captain him vs Soton, now I'm not so sure

      Southampton at home = bloodbath

Plays in GW35 too, and nice fixtures to the end of the season, and a DGW37.

Yeah, that's all fine, that's why I got him. Just saying Arsenal were terrible yesterday for 80 mins, and so was Auba.

Newcastle away in 35 will be a very tough fixture for them, I will be selling him after Soton, and maybe not getting him back if a City's striker look like he could play both games in 37

He’s scored 5 goals and one assist in 6 league games. That’s the best start any striker has had moving to the premier league. He’s got one of the best goal scoring rates in Europe over the last 4 years but you watch one game where arsenal are struggling for confidence and he still scores twice and you decide that he’s poor. Yeah you’re right I’m selling him too

        This.

People who have WC needs to open their eyes and look long term. That's what you do with FTs anyways. There is no more one week punt, unless you still have WC or FH.

I thankfully am FH in 34. So I can keep Auba throughout, and fit him and Kane in on my WC36

people counting points not perfomance-) he is a poacher, and been lethal in bundesliga (i have seen many Dortmund games) and this is what he does, scores goals. Nothing else. Southampton surely looks like a game Arsenal would thrive in so not hard to figure out why people being so enthusiastic? Salah is there in the mix for captaincy so not a no-brainer, agreed.

They've only had one game vs. Spurs

Too harsh to ditch them all based on that.

      But they didn't look amazing.

      If WCing this week:
      - definitely don't double down on defence...one is enough
      - Alonso is probably preferred over Willian for the same price
      - Hazard is out of the question...WAY too expensive, better value on offer

    4. Ruth_NZ
      • 11 Years
      8 years, 8 days ago

Yes. People talking about all kinds of stuff but this is the big advantage the GW33 wildcarders have. Chelsea are dead in the water and you can comfortably swerve them completely. Which is important as their key assets are expensive.

The one Chelsea player I am still interested in is Morata. Conte's recent comments suggest he's 100% fit now and will probably be given a run of games. And he needs to do well to make the Spain WC squad.

        1. Ruth_NZ
          • 11 Years
          8 years, 8 days ago

No. But Conte won't bench Pedro for every game.

Incidentally, if you look at Morata's price movements it shows how broken the system is now. FPL have wrecked it with whatever changes they have made. He has lost 500k owners from when he was 10.5m - that's more than 50% of them - yet has only fallen by 0.1m. 🙄

That's not supposed to happen when a player is above his starting level (or wasn't until this season). Not only that, when Morata was last at his current ownership level he was 10.0m. It's a broken system when it is delivering stupid outcomes like that.

Not to mention the jiggery-pokery with Salah and Kane. I am sure some will come on with this or that explanation of this or that mechanism - wildcards, flags, ownership levels - but that misses the point completely. The outcome is senseless. That's the point. A player that was injured and that no-one but dead teams wanted only drops 0.1 despite a widespread sell-off? It's idiotic..

Can see Chelsea, Spurs and Utd putting out weakend teams in their second game of the DGW. All three travelling away as well in their second game of the DGW

Chelsea play Burnley away, but have the FA Cup semi just 3 days later
Spurs play Brighton away, but will have played their last PL game just 3 days before
Man Utd play Bournemouth away, but have the FA Cup semi just 3 days later

You can expect the best XI to start in GW33 (subject to injuries). GW34 might be a bit more of a lottery. Leicester players most likely to be nailed given they have no FA Cup semi.

Ignoring GW35 fixtures (assumed to be a free hit week). These are the remaining fixtures for teams with a DGW 34:

BOU: CPL, liv, MUN, sou, SWA, bur
BHA: HUD, cpl, TOT, bur, mci, MUN, liv
BUR: wat, LEI, CHE, BHA, ars, BOU
CHE: WHM, sot, bur, swa, HUD, new
LEI: NEW, bur, SOT, cpl, ARS, WHM, tot
MUN: mci, WBA, bou, ARS, whm, bha, WAT
SOT: ars, CHE, lei, BOU, swa, eve, MCI
TOT: sto, mci, bha, WAT, NEW, wba, LEI

Brighton, Bournemouth and Southampton look like teams to avoid.
Chelsea are an unknown given their CL qualification difficulties following yesterday's defeat.
Looks like the best thing to do for GW34 onward is focus on Burnley, Leicester, Man Utd and Spurs.

If you hate Alonso for not living up to his price tag then sell him please. I will stick with him. If you watched yesterdays game, I believe Alonso gave it his all. Never a good sign to make a transfer, let alone take a hit straight after a wildcard but despite scoring 72 points (pretty good wc score i'd say) this week I'm strongly considering doing this over the next few weeks:

GW33: Kane + Gudmunsson in for Lukaku + Son (-4)

    Reasoning:
    - Most in my ML own Son and none own Kane and will struggle to get him with their team balance for now at least.
    - Son loses a lot of his appeal with Kane's quick recovery, probably a bit of a rotation risk again too with Lucas and Lamela competing.
    - Gudmunsson increases my numbers for BGW35 with no free hit.
    - I avoid having to play Lukaku away to Man City

GW34: Lukaku in for Aubameyang (FT)

Leaves me with 12 DGW'ers + Mustafi Salah Dummett for DGW34.

GW35: Firmino and Sterling in for Lukaku and Gross (-4)

Leaves me with 8 players for BGW35.

The only con I can think of is that shifting the strikers in and out may be better used to plan for BGW35. For example I could probably have 10-11 players for BGW35 with those two 4-point hits. However everyone in my ML has played their FH chip so everyone will struggle I think.

Anyone wanna talk me out of this or does it seem like a decent plan?

Looks a good plan to me. I certainly would do the son lukaku to Kane + 1 for your mini league

Willian still a great option at his price. One game against Spurs doesn’t mean he now isn’t on set pieces and in form

    Good morning

    Current side
    Karius/Elliot*
    Maguire* mustafi Daniels* dunk* mee
    Mane salah Walcott Willian* zaha
    Auba vardy* Wilson*

    4.0mil itb
    1FT

Strategy for the above is the FH 34, phase out 3 starred players for GW35 and field 10/11 and then BB prep for 37.

I’ve also got a TC chip to use somewhere!

    Any ideas?
Also, which two city players would u prioritise getting for GW35?
    Thanks

Best enabling move for Kane/Kaku in 34?

    A) Bailly ➡️ Swansea def
    B) Willian ➡️ Lingard
    C) Groß ➡️ Gudmundsson

A of those...no idea if Bailly will play

Maybe Bailly to Leicester/Burnley/Brighton is better?

G2G? 1FT, 0.0 ITB. Will bring Kane in for GW34.

    DDG Ryan
    Alonso Morgan Lowton VDH Dummett
    Mahrez Salah Willian Sterling Gross
    Auba Lukaku Barnes

      He isn't nailed at all

But he has played alongside Kane. I don't think that will change in the imminent future.
However, I will be getting rid in my WC36

    Worth reconsidering Mahrez?

As I'm FH34, considering a switch to Alli with my FT.

Don't have Vardy, but not sure that's too important.

I don't have Vardy or Mahrez.
But like you I am FH34, so will get him in for the doubles.

I agree, it is a good move.

However - Spurs don't have a game in 35. Will you have enough players for that BGW?

Yes - have got 11 or 12 for 35, so am pretty comfortable there (even if one is Fernandez against City).

No DGW34, truly horrific upcoming fixtures. West Ham at war with their fans, going down 3-1 to Burnley at home.

As West Ham I totally agree. You can never tell which team will turn up. And I don't mean in terms of personnel. Still looks like we're safe for this season with the capitulation at Stoke, Palace and Southampton. I can also see Huddersfield getting sucked in to the fight.

He can, think of the Hattie's/braces he scored vs canon fodder at the end of last season. Don't think he will as he might mind himself a little with World cup coming up.

Son to Willian when using WC last week, leaving MITB for Mustafi and Auba to Stephens and Kane.

I left funds on my wildcard to get him. Will likely do Lukaku to Kane this week, Aubameyang to Lukaku for 34 then Lukaku back to Aubameyang for 35.

Lukaku's going nowhere from my team.

The two best sets of DGW fixtures arguably...immune from rotation.

          Probably my Captain for DGW34

If the third forward is not droppable then you'll have to pick 2 from Lukaku, Firmino and Kane
