Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang emerged from a lacklustre first-half Arsenal performance to plunder a brace of goals and reward his wave of recent investors.

Arsenal ran out 3-0 winners over Stoke City on Sunday, a flattering scoreline after a woeful showing in the first period.

Aubameyang had struggled to feature in that opening spell but sprung to life in the second-half.

Having earlier been denied by a Jack Butland save from a one-on-one, he converted a first Arsenal penalty before firing home from a cleared Mesut Ozil corner.

Along with maximum bonus points, that rewarded his new owners with a 13-point return, his biggest haul so far since arriving in the Premier League.

It could have been even better, with the striker allowing Alexandre Lacazette the responsibility to convert Arsenal’s second penalty for their third goal. Aubameyang explained post-match why he surrendered duties to his team-mate, even though that decision denied him his first Arsenal hat-trick…

“I know that Laca is back and I’d scored twice, so I wanted to let him score. It’s normal. I think it’s good for his confidence, and that’s why.”

Over 362,000 managers swooped for Aubameyang ahead of Gameweek 32, identifying the encounter with Stoke, along with the Emirates Stadium clash with Southampton to follow, as ideal opportunities to profit.

Some 195,000+ – just 27.6% of his total ownership – also handed the Gabon international their captaincy.

With the top two armband selections – Mohamed Salah (34.4%) and Romelu Lukaku (13.4%) – producing seven and eight points respectively, Aubameyang’s backers will be delighted with the outcome.

Cup-tied for Thursday’s Europa League tie with CSKA Moscow, the striker will now get another opportunity to maintain a run of four goals in three Gameweeks when he faces the ailing Southampton defence on Sunday. We may even see more of his owners trust him with the captaincy for that encounter.

While Aubameyang will be protected from rotation in Gameweek 33, Arsene Wenger’s line-up will likely remain difficult to predict.

Today’s tweaks from the Arsenal boss involved both Laurent Koscielny and Henrikh Mkhitaryan dropping to the bench in preparation for Thursday’s tie. Aaron Ramsey returned from injury to earn a start alongside the recalled Jack Wilshere as part of Wenger’s changes.

The teamsheet for Thursday’s tie, along with the minutes played and the outcome, will now all be key to anticipating changes for next Sunday’s meeting with the Saints.

Arguably, Mkhitaryan should be well placed for a start. The 99,000+ who brought him in for Gameweek 32 will hoping that this proves to be the case, though some may look to avoid that risk by shipping him ahead of next weekend’s deadline.

Mustafi delivers

In defence, a second successive clean sheet helped Shkodran Mustafi earn two bonus points to produce an eight-point return to follow on from his 12 against Watford.

Some 50,000 new owners will be content with that, though some argued that the German could have earned an assist for Aubameyang’s second goal.

It was deemed that Mustafi failed to get a touch on Ozil’s crossed corner, though regardless, the clearance from Erik Pieters appeared to significantly alter the path of the ball before Aubameyang converted from ten yards out.

It was Nacho Monreal who went into Sunday’s contest as the most popular Gunners defender. He claimed 72,000+ new managers to return his first clean sheet since Gameweek 18. The Spaniard has, however, been limited to just six starts over that run.

Mustafi will likely continue to offer the most secure route into Wenger’s backline. The injury concerns surrounding both Monreal and Koscielny are set to continue to make them candidates for rest while the European campaign continues.

Petr Cech is another currently nursing an injury problem; he missed out on Sunday due to a “sore groin” and will likely be “short” for Thursday’s tie according to Wenger.

Butland excels

Despite the 3-0 margin, Stoke City’s Jack Butland was again their standout performer.

He made eight saves, his second highest tally of the season, to register another two save points.

Incredibly, Butland has now collected save points in 14 of his last 15 Gameweek matches, producing 23 points from stops in total.

Elsewhere for Stoke, there remains little to tempt Fantasy interest.

Paul Lambert’s side are without a Double Gameweek and have testing fixtures over the next four (TOT whu BUR liv).

Indeed, the 11.0% owned Xherdan Shaqiri has already soared to rank third for sales ahead of Gameweek 33.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'm in the WC32 camp and I came away with 68 so I'm pleased with that, moved into second place in my ML and got the leader on the run as he's used his FH and WC too.
You're right, just got to play the BB34, FH35 and will have a front line of Kane, Lukaku and Vardy in GW37 (or before) for TC.
2 week punt on Auba(C) started well so just got to pray he can deliver against a woeful Southampton backline and stop giving up penalty rights 😆

I haven't really planned too much the last few weeks especially after panic WCing in 31 when I had five players out. However I find myself in a good spot and only 5 points behind 2nd in my cash league.

My question is, as I have no WC or TC chip, I only have BB and FH left.

Is it worth a shot using FH in 34 for the DGW and BB for 37 which will give me more time to pump a side full of DGW players in 37? DGW 37 looks a bit more attractive fixture wise.

As it stands for DGW I have currently have:
    DDG (Karnezis)
    Mustafi Azpi Lowton (Mari Zanka)
    Mahrez Son Mane Salah (Stan)
    Aub Firmino (Mounie)

Not overly attractive, I'd need to take at least -8 to get 11 players. But GW35 I currently have 8 players.

Yeah. He is good then he plays though.

Felt unlucky as an owner. Had 2 good shots saved + an assist denied by the crossbar vs Watford.

A score of 79 with Aubameyang captain has got me from 230k to 130k. There is a god!

Plus can I say Eriksen was immense today, what a result!

Not using my wildcard until GW35.

    Would you;
    Stanislas -> Son
    Shaqiri -> Lingard

    Butland
    Robertson/Maguire/Davies
    Mahrez/Salah/Stanislas/Willian
    Mounie/Aub/Firmino

Spurs have no European involvement and should field a full strength side. Can't say the same about Liverpool and Arsenal. Not much in it. Kane.

Can't decide whether to keep Mkhitaryan. Aubameyang and Firmino for DGW34 even though they don't have doubles with the knowledge they play in Blank game week 35. Any thoughts?

See what happens against CSKA but I'd be inclined to lose Mkhi for a DGWer. Rotation and all that

Depends on the rest of your team. Alli looks up for it after all the criticism he’s had

    4. JohnnyMagrinho
        8 years, 7 days ago

Not sure whether Mhki didn’t start because Stoke are SO BAD or because Wenger things he can get by without him.

As long as Auba doesn’t feel the need to donate his goals to his teammates for some ridiculous reason over the next couple of weeks he looks a good shout.

I don’t see the value in Mhki when we have other midfielders with a DGW against favourable teams for similar price.

I’ve thought the same and felt bad for it! As a football lover whether you’ve captained or not captained what a joy to watch.

Has somewhat ruined captaincy gains for many weeks

I have with one hit the posibility to get Kane- Milivojevic for Vardy- Mkhitaryian
      Yes or no?

I would end up with Firmino- Aub - Kane ok top.
With Salah - Willian- Mahrez - Milli - Gudmundsson on midfield.

Milli and Gudmundsson can rotate, good fixtures for that.
      Should i take the hit?

      2. JohnnyMagrinho

Unless something happens in training I don’t see why not.

Next week seems to be a bit of a moot fixture to be honest as it’s Chelsea away. Unless Hart has an absolute nightmare at Stamford Bridge he should keep his spot ahead of Adrian based on the last few weeks imo.

Keeping faith in Sanchez might yet work out and siding with Eriksen and captaining Auba worked out nicely this week. Onwards and Upwards 🙂
Big win for Spurs that, leaving Chelsea chasing shadows now!

Wouldn't go as far to say it's a no-brainer. He's a good option and a likely differential. Wait and see if Man City progress in the champions league.

Depends on who else you have.

I personally like the Lukaku/Vardy/Firmino idea to be honest.

But I’ll be going with Son in midfield too.

Seeing as Chelsea are so far behind now, how likely do we think Klopp is to rest a couple of players before the second leg against City?

Wouldn’t be surprised if Salah and Firmino start on the bench before we go to the Etihad..
