Mohamed Salah leaves it uncomfortably late to deliver yet more returns for his huge Fantasy Premier League (FPL) ownership and an equally large section of managers who hand him the armband.

It wasn’t quite 83 minutes of hell for Salah’s 3.6 million owners, but after the perfect storm of his Gameweek 31 four-goal romp against Watford, the Liverpool midfielder’s late winner at Crystal Palace in Saturday’s early kick-off was more a matter of relief than rejoicing.

More than two million – 34.4% of all FPL managers – backed him with the captaincy and were rewarded with a seven-point haul in the 2-1 win, although he missed out on bonus for the fifth time in six Gameweeks.

With Wildcards now to the fore and Liverpool without a Double Gameweek for the run-in, captaining the Egyptian is not necessarily the fire and forget option of recent weeks.

But his consistency remains staggering. He’s now scored or assisted in 23 of his 29 starts and in seven of his last eight Gameweeks, scoring 11 times.

Salah’s ownership continues to rise despite that lack of a double-header to come, with sales of Liverpool assets concentrated elsewhere.

Sadio Mane was jettisoned by 50,000+ going into Gameweek 32, only for the midfielder to score Liverpool’s equaliser and extend a run of returns to five straight matches (three goals, three assists).

That ended up benefitting a relatively modest number of FPL managers – Mane is owned by a mere 11.1% – whereas Roberto Firmino’s blank stung the 48.8% owners who have made him the most popular forward in the game.

The Brazilian fired six shots at Selhurst Park, a joint hight for the Gameweek. But he has just one goal and an assist from the last four Gameweeks – Liverpool have scored ten in that time – and the 62,000+ who sold him going into the weekend might well be the start of a more concerted exodus. Firmino is currently second only to the injured Sergio Aguero for sales.

The Reds’ Champions League quarter-final tie with Man City on Wednesday was presumably behind Mane’s 63rd-minute withdrawal, although a booking for a first-half “dive” also played its part.

But his replacement, Adam Lallana, lasted just five minutes before going off with a thigh muscle problem that lessens coach Jurgen Klopp’s rotation options among his attacking players.

The Liverpool boss was not optimistic on Lallana’s injury post-match.

“I haven’t spoken with him but I saw him. It’s absolutely bad. We don’t know exactly what he has, but in the first moment and then I saw him going down it looked really serious, to be honest.”

Whether that keeps Liverpool’s front three starting for the foreseeable future remains to be seen, but with a Merseyside derby sandwiching the two legs of their European tie with City, rotation is probably a decision Klopp will leave for Gamweek 34’s visit from Bournemouth.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, as expected, replaced the injured Joe Gomez at right-back today, with the fit-again Nathaniel Clyne on the bench, while James Milner came in for Emre Can and provided an assist as the German international missed out with a back problem.

One player seemingly immune from rotation is left-back Andrew Robertson and he marked his tenth straight league start with another fine return.

Luka Milivojevic’s penalty denied the Scottish international a third clean sheet in four matches, but his third assist in five Gameweeks helped him to maximum bonus, and he’s earned extra points every time he’s produced attacking returns in that time.

With the Liverpool fixture out of the way, Palace’s run-in (bou BHA wat LEI stk WBA) is now set fair, although the lack of a Double Gameweek will keep interest in their key assets to a bare minimum.

Milivojevic (4.9) underscored his budget capabilities with his ninth goal of the season – seven of those have come from eight penalty attempts.

Wilfried Zaha was fit to start and earned the assist for the spot-kick. He’s now won four penalties this season, joint-top with Raheem Sterling.

      Salah? Certainly over Mane anyway.

      Hazard over Son.
      Perhaps Sanchez.

Maybe downgrade Vardy to make one or two of the above to happen.

I will be FH34 too. So this looks good to me

Minimum. Will be very hot property for the run in. Essentially playing like a second striker/false 9/winger super combo. All for 4.3m and CS’s too.

Is that the same Richarlison that can’t hit a barn door?

Football is a funny game, one good cameo and a goal or 2 for Richarlison and he is back in the team. But i agree Kiko is an excellent option given his price and ability.

You have no money to upgrade anywhere, I'd consider dropping Lukaku or/and Alonso to upgrade elsewhere. It's not like they're outscoring the cheaper options anyway.
Mkhi, Monreal and you're definitely in a spot where you have to take the risk on City players.

Gone top of my ML for the first time all season...by 1pt!... 😎
It will be a brief stay barring an Alonso show today.

40(-4) with Alonso, Son, Aubameyang to go - he has Rambo, Son and Auba(c)...

Disappointed with myself for leaving Milivojevic on the bench, favouring Schindler...should have listened to a few on here advising me against Schindy...Mili now has 9 goals to Schindy’s 7 cleanies all season 😯

    Delighted with Chilwell 🙂
Not sure what’s up with Stanislas 🙁

    ____
Now my dilemma is when to WC... 😯
My current set up for next week is:
    _

    Pope(wat)
    Alonso(WHU) VvD(eve) Chilwell(NEW)
    Salah(eve) Son(stk) Stanislas(CPL) Milivojevic(bou)
    Aubameyang(SOU) Lukaku(mci) Firmino(eve)

    Begovic(CPL) Schindler(bha) Baines(LIV) RLC(bou)
    _

I’m not sure the above warrants a WC, and I can’t really see any real immediate gain from pulling the trigger, other than :
^it allows me to play my TC and BB in separate DGW’s^
^it probably stops me taking a hit this week if Stan is ruled out^

I would certainly welcome any thoughts on strategy going forwards.

My gut instinct is that the WC will potentially be super powerful wielded in GW35 to load on Man City players (amongst others), leaving me free to roll around with Hazard, Sanchez and Lukaku in GW34 on a FH.
This would give me two options for my TC and BB deployment:
    BB36 TC37 or BB37 TC38.

Thoughts on the above rambling would be very, very much appreciated -certainly not ruling out playing my WC this GW, but please note that I’m not interested in pulling the trigger to gain TV at this stage - I’m genuinely interested in plotting a valuable strategy which could give me an advantage over those who WC’d last week...such as noted above: the freedom of Haz/Alexis in 34 and injecting triple City at a moments notice.

    Cheers 🙂

Hmmm. If you do WC in 35, you will be low on Spurs and Utd assets I would imagine unless you have incredible TV. Not sure Triple City is worth that, esp seeing as we really don't know how Pep will react to having won the league by then.

How couldn't he be low on Spurs or united.

        They don't have a game in 35.
And he will FH in 34. Getting the best and strongest team out.

Before WC36. Getting a great BB37 team out.

Actually you're right. He mentioned WC35.

Not sure I would do that. Has to be WC36 imo.

Take a hit to get a minimum of two city players. That's all that's needed

      I am biased towards a WC36 and FH34

I've scored 43 myself with Auba. Son and Davis to go.

I will suggest that you stick to your gut feelings and stay on the FH34 path 🙂

I honestly beleive it will be the best route. As you say. Kane, hazard, Sanchez, lukaku in a strong 11 in DGW34 has to be the way forward.

Yeah maybe, Arsenal might finally pull it together, but you've got some quality attackers there, just gotta wait and see.

Having a 'mare here. Just the 28 points so far. Hauled myself near to the top 1000, plus top of my nation but could badly implode by tonight.

Will all turn if - IF - Spuds/Chelski blank as all 4 defenders are from those 2, plus I have Aubam as captain. Praying.....

Any Bailly owners? I know we knew the risk with Man U defenders... is it just 33% chance each on Bailly Smalling and Jones?

Non-owner, I think he'll definitely start vs mci, after Jose's comments after the match

Something about Lindelof being the right CB for the job against SWA due to his bringing the ball up, but them needing lots of physicality against City next week. Bailly immediately springs to mind.

bailey returning after long lay off. jose was always going to be cautious with him given the optons in defence he possess.

DDG is the best and secure way into manunited defence

Would you rather have Kane and Mkhitaryan or Lukaku and Eriksen for GW 34? I realise that there's still two games to go until then, but would be nice to gage popular opinion on here

Don't think Kane or Lukaku are worth the money. Sanchez if he gets some form now...

Lukaku I would understand, but Kane... I really think he'll be up for a cracking run in. Sanchez is annoying me, just far too expensive.

Sounds like you're leaning Kane then- go for him!

Not an option for me. Would ruin team structure and i don't think that's worth it.

Remember when Antonio was going to be in the England squad? Now he can't even last 90 minutes without getting injured.

There is. It's even really likely that it will occur. There are some fixtures that are yet to be rearranged despite being taken out of GW 35. Keep your eyes peeled for news, as they will have to be played at some point.

Thanks.. I still have WC, FH, TC and BB chips left..Just wondering if WC will be more useful in GW36 than GW34. Interesting..

Disappointing from Brighton yesterday, hoping Groß delivers against Huddersfield.
