Earlier than usual in a Norwegian top flight season we embark on the first double Gameweek of the season. Here we’ll preview the key players to target and also look back at the lessons learned from the last set of fixtures.

Gameweek 4 Preview

VÃ¥lerenga – Strømsgodset

(Saturday, 5:00 P.M.)

Vålerenga were brought down to earth  against Sarpsborg, after winning their two first games. Despite the loss, Sam Johnson looked dangerous and is worth monitoring.

Strømsgodset had a really poor game against Brann, despite almost getting all three points after a bizarre own goal by Brann’s Acosta. The absence of Jradi and Ulland Andersen surely played a big part. it will be vital to Strømsgodset to get at least one of them back for this game. Jradi is likely to return to training towards the end of the week, so he should be in contention for the game. Ulland Andersen’s recovery is going well, but no definite word on when he’s back.

Brann – Kristiansund BK

(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)

Brann have had a solid start to the season, despite a fluke own goal seeing them draw with Strømsgodset. This time they are taking on Kristiansund at home, another team that has a decent start. Key assets from Brann, like Haugen and Wormgoor, are worth an investment. Koomson have also been showing promising signs so far.

From Kristiansund we see signs that Gjertsen is back to playable form, and one to keep an eye on. We’ll back Brann to win here.

FK Haugesund – Sarpsborg 08

(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)

This game looks hard to call. Both teams have had an impressive start to the season, and look pretty solid at the back. Could this be the first 0-0 of the season? Gytkjær from Haugesund and Mortensen from Sarpsborg have also enjoyed good starts up front, while Akintola is starting to look like a bargain at 5.5 for Haugesund.

Odd – Bodø/Glimt

(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)

Odd pulled off a draw against Rosenborg last game, but at a high cost, as three of their first-team regulars had to leave the pitch before halftime. This leaves a team short of numbers and  it’s hard to say who the good picks could be. John Kitolano is still a good selection, while new signing Birk Risa was moved up front after Børven had to leave the game early with an injury.

Bodø/Glimt look wounded after their 0-3 defeat at home against Haugesund, and will be looking to right that wrong, with Kristian Fardal Opseth and Ulrik Saltnes still the main picks of the team. These are two classic 4-3-3 teams so look for early goals to open the floodgates here.

Sandefjord – Stabæk

(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)

This is the first of two home games for Sandefjord this Gameweek. They will be looking to build on their recent success with a victory over Stabæk, who were thumped by Ranheim in the last round.  Storbæk, who was moved into the front three, looks key for the hosts, as does Olsen Holberg. There’s a question of who will keep the striker position out of Kastrati and Engblom. We advise monitoring Grorud and Kastrati, as both were subbed last time out with injuries.

Stabæk are gearing up for a double Gameweek in round 6, and we are looking closely at options like Ohi, Boli, Brochmann and Sæter as picks then.

Tromsø – Ranheim

(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)

Tromsø, who had a good game away against Molde, play host to high-flying debutants Ranheim in their first of two home matches this Gameweek. An efficient Molde team snatched a win, but Tromsø looked decent in that game and could well have been the first to scratch Molde’s paint. Managers are already familiar with the likes of Gamst Pedersen, Aasen, Wangberg and Nilsen as picks in this team, but newcomer Robert Taylor at 6.0 made himself known as a midfield option with a goal last time.

Ranheim, on the other hand, looked like Eliteserien veterans as they proceeded to pick Stabæk apart last round, drawing lots of interest before their first of two double Gameweeks. If you don’t have Erik Tønne by now, you’ve not payed attention, with Even Barli, Michael Karlsen and Kristoffer Løkberg (in the absence of Reginiussen) rising up as prime picks in the early season. Bonus magnet Christian Eggen Bismarck looks a good defensive option.

Rosenborg – Molde

(Sunday, 7:00 P.M.)

These teams were expected to battle for the top spots this season, but only Molde have got off the mark so far. Reigning champions Rosenborg have looked dreadful in their first three matches, showing no signs of the league supremacy everyone expected. This has left many Fantasy managers fleeing from their high priced assets in search of value elsewhere. Despite this, there is some value to be found in Helland, as his free kicks tend to be dangerous despite overall poor performances everywhere else.

In contrast, Molde offer a wealth of options that are only marred by Solskjær’s rotation policy. Choices like Brustad, Amang, Aursnes, Haugen and Linde are popular, as long as they play. You could play both Rosenborg and any Molde asset you own, but as far as transfers go, you’d be better off staying away from this game.

Lillestrøm – IK Start

(Monday, 6:00 P.M.)

Lillestrøm have been awful at the back, conceding seven in their first there games, mostly due to goalkeeping blunders.  Despite this, they have managed to score, and it’s the midfield options that stand out for points here. Erling Knudtzon picked up where he left off last season, and is alternating between striker and winger – looking a threat in both positions. Aleksander Melgalvis was an early victim to rotation, but has since cemented a starting berth and looks a bargain on the wing at 5.5. There is a case for drafting in Lehne Olsen as a striker, but he’ll likely be ignored in the clamour for double Gameweek assets.

IK Start were huge favorites last round, to the point that many were punting a captaincy on the likes of Kevin Kabran or Kristian Floki Finnbogason. Floki came good with a goal and had a good game overall, but nobody saw a 1-4 crushing defeat to Sandefjord coming. They will be looking to hit back fast. In addition to the mentioned players, Elliot Käck has looked a decent threat moving forward.

Sandefjord – Ranheim

(Wednsday, 5:30 P.M.)

This is the second match in the Gameweek for both these teams, who both won 4-1 in the previous round and should still be full of confidence, whatever the outcome of the first match.  We’ve already looked over the players, sufficient to say that unlocking this game could be key to your double Gameweek haul.

Tromsø – Strømsgodset

(Wednsday, 5:30 P.M.)

This  double Gameweek match looks hard to predict. Tromsø looked better and are tough to beat on home turf. Jradi should definitely be back for this game for Strømsgodset.

Double Gameweek Strategy

Entering into the first double gameweek of the season, the general consensus is to play chips now, as we can not be guaranteed another after Gameweek 6 is done and dusted. As such, many have already burned a wildcard ahead of Gameweek 3 in order to get their team ready, while some are contemplating wildcards in Gameweek 5.

Sandefjord scored on every chance they got and pulled out a big win ahead of their double home games, making their players tempting. Unknown quantity Ranheim came in to Eliteserien with a bang and a fanfare, pulling out a debut 4-1 win at home against Stabæk, and in the process proving they have the strongest Twitter-game of the lot. Cult hero Karlsen at Ranheim is a prime candidate for any striker rush-musings as they feature in both double Gameweeks.

Tromsø lost again, and are now firmly at the bottom of the league. But match reports indicate Molde had to dig deep to pull off a win out against them.

Strømsgodset, who before this round were one of the most exciting prospects for this double set of matches, ran into trouble as their top target Jradi booked himself on the injury-list with illness, joining Ulland-Andersen, who is on his way back from recent surgery. This has left the team looking somewhat shaken. All eyes are on the recovery-progress for these two key players, as well as top striker Marcus Pedersen’s form.

So what to do? Well, all three chips look viable for this first double Ggameweek. Striker rush with Karlsen, Pedersen and a third (Mortensen, Skålevik or Gytkjær perhaps) looks tempting and could provide a much sought boost. Double Captain should also provide a wealth of options provided you can tease out the best two double Gameweek heroes in an eclectic bunch of fixtures.

And Park the Bus brings out some real prospects, with the likes of Ranheim’s winger Eirik Tønne, Tromsø’s wing back Lasse Nilsen and former DGW hero Wangberg, Sandefjord’s wing back and set piece maestro Olsen Solberg, cheap option Grorud, as well as strong premium defenders from Strømsgodset all vying for spots in your squads.

We introduce a scout-pick with NO chip in mind, just what we consider the best XI on it’s own for this Gameweek.

Let's park the bus guys! Who's with me?! 😀

May be foolish, but I'm saving all my chips (inc. Wildcard) until after these DGWS are done and dusted. Don't like the look of any of them.

Fair enough, but these might be the only DGWs we'll get.

May be so, but if these are the only DGWS, I think I have a chance on improving on what you guys will get in these two DGWS in single gameweeks 😉

Maybe, maybe not. Not the best teams, still decent fixtures for some. Two fixtures should also mean at least 4 points is likely from each, even with no CS. I'm quite happy with my park the bus lineup:

Wormgoor - Good home fixture, on penalties, Brann look great

Olsen Solberg - On every set piece, playing very advanced as a wing back. Good fixtures at home, looked improved again Start.

Nilsen - Playing very advanced, could be used OOP as well. Two home games, they looked good against Molde

Tønne - This one explains itself. 4.5 defender playing in the front three. Slightly worried about rotation, but not much

Glesnes - The rock in Strømsgodset's defence. Not the best defence and not the best fixtures, but they could get a CS and he's definitely likely to get bonus if so. Also okay attacking threat from set pieces.

I really like the first four, Glesnes a bit less but certainly could cause some damage! Good luck to you anyway, especially seeing as I own Olsen Tonne and Wormgoor myself 😉

Haha, thanks! Hopefully it won't end in tears. I'm only starting to realise how powerful this chip can be combined with a DGW. Probably not that likely, but if all of them average 10 points (one CS + attacking returns/bonus) that's 100 points just for the defence. Even after a fail with "only" 4 points for each that's 40 points from 5 defenders.

Whoever catches last seasons the equivalent of the Wangberg 30 pointer could be in with a shot at the title.

Could easily be Wangberg himself to be honest - two home games and massive attacking threat from set pieces.

I'll keep my "Park the bus" chip mostly for one reason: With 5 defenders I have to bench 3 of my attacking players who all have good fixtures in GW 4. That's a bit too risky for my taste ...

        1. MTPockets
            8 years, 1 month ago

Fair point. I'm probably selling Helland, benching Koomson & Kabran. Potential for that to go quite wrong.

Think I would use that chip, if I had one more DGW defender. Could get one more defender, but might rather look to field two DGW strikers.

I think I am. Currently have Wormgoor, Tønne, Nilsen, Käck and Haugen. Will replace one of the latter two with Solberg Olsen. Also considering a hit to get Rolantsson.

I am! 😀 Terrible season so far, so i might gamble with a -8 and play WC next week.

The team would look like this:

          Linde
          Nilsen-Rolantsson-Kitolano-Tønne-Glesnes
          Helland-Nguen
          M.Pedersen-Skålevik-Floki

          Karlstrøm-Zachariassen-Saltnes-Vetlesen

Any thoughts? I'm not to confident about Nguen playtime, but hope for the best! Cant take -12 to get rid.

\o/ Has potential to be a very high scoring gw (or an absolute flop). But I like the skew, particularly as had to wc previously to optimise for players + chip(s).

Worth mentioning that with Vålerenga-Strømsgodset being the first game of the gamweek, we'll know the lineups before the deadline. Could be useful especially with regards to players from Strømsgodset, where we're awaiting some injury updates.

Ofkir lurking, they could also field both Engblom and Kastrati. Morer and Sødlund also around.

He's not OOP, but playing more advanced than expected (in the front three). My guess is he'll start in the front three in at least one of the games, but he's central to Sandefjord's attack anyway.

With Jradi out I got Haugen in, and took a punt on Stengel over Åsen/Gamst for last GW + the DGW. Looked at Storbæk instead of Stengel as well, regret not going for Storbæk now. He's a good option for the DGW. Don't think I'll make a move for him though.

It's deadline day in Norway, and there are actually a lot of movement.

Start just signed Skaanes, who could play as a CM or as a winger. Also sign Niklas Sandberg, who's a very talented CM. They are likely to sign Jørgen Horn as well, an experienced CB, and are also after a young talented CB from Levanger and Odd's GK Viljar Myhra. A crazy day at Start, they are surely busy.

Rosenborg are signing Even Hovland from Sogndal (experienced CB) and Rafik Zekhnini from Fiorentina on loan (very talented Norwegian winger).

Haugesund also teasing a loan signing from abroad.

Brann have loaned out Vidar Ari Jonsson to an Icelandic club, which means they now have nine foreigners in the squad (only ten allowed). Vega and Marengo will stay then, and together with Braaten they will challenge Koomson and Rolantsson for the two winger roles.

Yes, then sold to Fiorentina. Now in Rosenborg on a loan until June 30th. RBK says it's because of Adegbenro's injury, and the fact that De Lanlay isnt fully matchfit after a long period of injury.

Decent chances, don't fancy Kitolano on a single game vs. Bodø/Glimt though, that match smells like goals and a spot wasted on the chip, but you could do well on that set....

I can see a CS. I would prefer Olsen Solberg over Kitolano just for this GW though, but Kitolano might be better long term so not worth hits.

Worth noting that Niemi is refering to Glesnes over Parr.... in the aborted Tromsø-game Parr was actually benched for the formation change, so not too certain he will play both.

I don't like the benching of Haugen at home, but at the same time it's hard to bench Helland or any of the DGWers.

It's a luxury problem anyway, you're squad look very good for GW4.

Yeah I don't like it either, I could bench Tonne either but ill probably just end up losing more points. Helland is only a punt anyway I could just swap him out for Haugen

I wouldn't bench Tønne, especially when parking the bus.

I'm fielding both Helland and Haugen myself (and as you see in the scout picks above I'm backing them to do well this GW). I do have one less DGW midfielder than you though, so not a big decision for me. Triple Start on my bench!

Left him out the last couple of hours on my WC as I had to find 0.5 extra to upgrade Jradi to Haugen.

I think he's a great pick for the DGW though.

Jradi back in training today. I guess that mean he's likely to play on Saturday.

Ulland has also featured in training recently and I guess he should make the squad at least. Not sure if they're going to risk him already.

                Prices on new players RBK:

Hovland 6.0 mill (same as Rasmussen btw)
                Zekhnini 8.5 mill

WC Hovland in GW5, or stick with my Reginiussen plan...?

I'm going for the park the bus chip this week - any comments folks?

                  Linde
Wormgoor - Lasse Nilsen - Tonne - Olsen Solberg - Grorud
                  Jradi - Nguen - Asen
                  Bendtner - Lehne Olsen
Subs: Maric - Knudtzon - Amang - Heltne Nilsen

Might take a hit to do Bendtner to Pederson too, but unsure yet.

I thought he was going to start last GW too, but it was always a risk. I doubt they'll change their GK after a great win away - Johansen also had 6 saves. Might get second game at a stretch, but I doubt it..

Eh, my other goalie is Linde so I'll start Jonson just in case. With Grorud, Jradi and Lehne Olsen it does not look like a good GW for me.

I think Jradi should be fine. I don't get why Lehne Olsen is flagged, he played on Monday and don't think he has a new injury.

At the same time they have been decent at updating the flags this year, so there could be an injury I'm not aware of. I think they are just slow removing the flag though!

Grorud I've not heard anything of yet, beside the fact that he was subbed late with a knock.

Is it madness to play the Park the Bus with just 3 or 4 players ?

I think I would rather points of better strikers rather than my 4th & 5th defenders

Even getting in 5 decent defenders it seems a shame to miss out on attacking returns

I need to think this chip through a bit more as to whether it is actually better used in a double game week or simply when my team may have a few injuries to my attacking lineup ....

Seems like a waste, I'd rather use a different chip then.

I have four DGW defenders and Wormgoor. All capable of attacking returns and CS could happen. If I'm really lucky and get an average of 10 out of each defender (a bit much maybe), I'll get 100 from my defence.

Don't think there are many tempting attacking DGW assets going forward, besides the Strømsgodset guys, Åsen, Storbæk and maybe Karlsen.

I understand all of that, just pondering the disruption of getting 5 specific defenders, moving value around the team, the hassle of getting them and then maybe getting rid of them ... the opportunity cost of the transfers, the attacking players available that you don’t play etc

Playing the ‘attack attack’ seems so much easier with less disruption

Will probably park the bus in GW6 but a decent single GW defender may have a higher ceiling than some of the double game week options

Incidentally if you Captain an attacker with a double game week and play the ‘attack attack’ chip, how many games do you actually get out of that player ?

You can't pick a captain while parking the bus.

The reason why I'm using park the bus this GW is there are not many good attacking options IMO, but a lot of reasonably priced defenders with attacking potential with good DGW fixture. Both Nilsen and Tønne would probably have been in my team regardless of the DGW. Wormgoor also has a good fixture, and he's nailed on in my team.

Which means I have to shift Olsen Solberg and Glesnes in the future. I'm not in a hurry, but when possible Olsen Solberg will be downgraded to Grorud or a 4.5, and Glesnes most likely to a premium defender. For now Glesnes have okay fixtures and okay value, so he might stay a few weeks.

Yeah, definitely had to plan ahead.

The case against PTB in GW6 is that you got premium assets like Ohi, Haugen etc. with decent DGW fixtures, which makes the other chips more interesting (and PTB less interesting IMO)

Certainly, my Attack Attack decision is based upon no planning except for 2 Free Transfers, it was easier bringing in 2 attackers and carry them forward than dealing with the defence ... I may do the same or take a hit in GW6 and then WC the mess away in 7 🙂

It's worth setting it up for your entire backline. Using it on a DGW defender gives you 8 points from appearances alone, with the change of clean sheets and attacking returns to add up to even more.

Mos has a double gameweek but is getting no mention here. Are there concerns about his game time?

Perhaps. We're still figuring out how Strømsgodset will line-up with both Pedersen and Mos.

Skullerud prefers playing with a lone striker, and currently Pedersen seems to have the nod. When Mos has started, he's been placed out wide, which should indicate that Pedersen is the main man for the striker position. While also being cheaper, there's currently no reason to go for Mos over Pedersen.

Been thinking if I should play a 4-3-3 with Hanche-Olsen or 3-4-3 with Hestad? My Rosenborg heart says 4-3-3, but I won't field Hansen anyway this GW (my only defensive option from RBK).

                      Thoughts?

Hanche-Olsen have been all over the place with kamikaze style defending so far this season.. Don't trust Stabæk defence at all.

                      Start
                      A) Kitolano(Playing park the bus,so will get double points)
                      B) Ohi
                      C) Kitolano - Olsen Solberg(-4)

I'm in a similar situation (Reginiussen vs Olsen Solberg(-4).

Tough seeing Sandefjord keep a clean sheet vs Stabæk, maybe one vs Ranheim. It seems like Olsen Solberg has a decent chance of getting attacking points, so I think the hit is worth it.

                          Yeah, I wouldn't bench Ohi.

At the same time, it's a waste to only field four players while using PTB IMO. No other benchable players?

Olsen Solberg could easily be worth a hit if so, as I'd back him to outscore Kitolano by at least two (which is enough to break even). The problem is if Kitolano end up outscoring Olsen Solberg, then you would be punished twice as hard as normal.

                      OUT: Alonso and Mhiki

Seeing as he was benched in the last game, what are Landu Landu's chances of starting both games? I would probably bench him unless he's for sure going to play both.

Best DGW midfielder for under 6.3m?

Narrowed it down to Storbaek, Taylor and Berntsen. Storbaek seems the obvious choice playing further forward.

Can anyone enlighten me about Taylor or Berntsen? Taylor seems to be a utility player playing as a wingback. Had a good scoring record in Finland and scored a stunner against Molde. Berntsen a diminutive midfielder but could be a bargain at 5m, is he likely to get more assists?

For basically a one week punt I don't think Gamst has a high enough ceiling. Could stick with Rashani another week against BG but he'll be gone soon anyway.

Gamst also flirting with the bench, would not go there.

Berntsen is a typical example of long-time talent who has not broken through yet

                            Storbæk hands down

I don't know much about Taylor, but I've heard he has a great left foot. At wing back he's not very tempting too me. Berntsen could be okay at 5.0, but not too inspiring. I'd rather have Løkberg as a short term punt.

Gamst was close to being benched for the Molde game, and he gave away a goal in that game, so I can see him being benched for at least one of the game. He's also the holding in Tromsø, so relying on set pieces.

From what I've heard he's been very good in training, so I guess it's likely he'll start. Will he play both? Not sure. I honestly have no idea.

Don't think I would take the chance myself, but I barely now anything about the beside the fact that he's very fast and a wing back.

Same information as I’ve got. No guarantees. Just have a feeling about him getting off to a good start, but it’s a high risk punt. Too bad we won’t have the lineups for Sandefjords first game before the deadline. Appreciate your input, always helpful 🙂
