Earlier than usual in a Norwegian top flight season we embark on the first double Gameweek of the season. Here we’ll preview the key players to target and also look back at the lessons learned from the last set of fixtures.

Gameweek 4 Preview

Vålerenga – Strømsgodset

(Saturday, 5:00 P.M.)

Vålerenga were brought down to earth  against Sarpsborg, after winning their two first games. Despite the loss, Sam Johnson looked dangerous and is worth monitoring.

Strømsgodset had a really poor game against Brann, despite almost getting all three points after a bizarre own goal by Brann’s Acosta. The absence of Jradi and Ulland Andersen surely played a big part. it will be vital to Strømsgodset to get at least one of them back for this game. Jradi is likely to return to training towards the end of the week, so he should be in contention for the game. Ulland Andersen’s recovery is going well, but no definite word on when he’s back.

Brann – Kristiansund BK

(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)

Brann have had a solid start to the season, despite a fluke own goal seeing them draw with Strømsgodset. This time they are taking on Kristiansund at home, another team that has a decent start. Key assets from Brann, like Haugen and Wormgoor, are worth an investment. Koomson have also been showing promising signs so far.

From Kristiansund we see signs that Gjertsen is back to playable form, and one to keep an eye on. We’ll back Brann to win here.

FK Haugesund – Sarpsborg 08

(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)

This game looks hard to call. Both teams have had an impressive start to the season, and look pretty solid at the back. Could this be the first 0-0 of the season? Gytkjær from Haugesund and Mortensen from Sarpsborg have also enjoyed good starts up front, while Akintola is starting to look like a bargain at 5.5 for Haugesund.

Odd – Bodø/Glimt

(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)

Odd pulled off a draw against Rosenborg last game, but at a high cost, as three of their first-team regulars had to leave the pitch before halftime. This leaves a team short of numbers and  it’s hard to say who the good picks could be. John Kitolano is still a good selection, while new signing Birk Risa was moved up front after Børven had to leave the game early with an injury.

Bodø/Glimt look wounded after their 0-3 defeat at home against Haugesund, and will be looking to right that wrong, with Kristian Fardal Opseth and Ulrik Saltnes still the main picks of the team. These are two classic 4-3-3 teams so look for early goals to open the floodgates here.

Sandefjord – Stabæk

(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)

This is the first of two home games for Sandefjord this Gameweek. They will be looking to build on their recent success with a victory over Stabæk, who were thumped by Ranheim in the last round.  Storbæk, who was moved into the front three, looks key for the hosts, as does Olsen Holberg. There’s a question of who will keep the striker position out of Kastrati and Engblom. We advise monitoring Grorud and Kastrati, as both were subbed last time out with injuries.

Stabæk are gearing up for a double Gameweek in round 6, and we are looking closely at options like Ohi, Boli, Brochmann and Sæter as picks then.

Tromsø – Ranheim

(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)

Tromsø, who had a good game away against Molde, play host to high-flying debutants Ranheim in their first of two home matches this Gameweek. An efficient Molde team snatched a win, but Tromsø looked decent in that game and could well have been the first to scratch Molde’s paint. Managers are already familiar with the likes of Gamst Pedersen, Aasen, Wangberg and Nilsen as picks in this team, but newcomer Robert Taylor at 6.0 made himself known as a midfield option with a goal last time.

Ranheim, on the other hand, looked like Eliteserien veterans as they proceeded to pick Stabæk apart last round, drawing lots of interest before their first of two double Gameweeks. If you don’t have Erik Tønne by now, you’ve not payed attention, with Even Barli, Michael Karlsen and Kristoffer Løkberg (in the absence of Reginiussen) rising up as prime picks in the early season. Bonus magnet Christian Eggen Bismarck looks a good defensive option.

Rosenborg – Molde

(Sunday, 7:00 P.M.)

These teams were expected to battle for the top spots this season, but only Molde have got off the mark so far. Reigning champions Rosenborg have looked dreadful in their first three matches, showing no signs of the league supremacy everyone expected. This has left many Fantasy managers fleeing from their high priced assets in search of value elsewhere. Despite this, there is some value to be found in Helland, as his free kicks tend to be dangerous despite overall poor performances everywhere else.

In contrast, Molde offer a wealth of options that are only marred by Solskjær’s rotation policy. Choices like Brustad, Amang, Aursnes, Haugen and Linde are popular, as long as they play. You could play both Rosenborg and any Molde asset you own, but as far as transfers go, you’d be better off staying away from this game.

Lillestrøm – IK Start

(Monday, 6:00 P.M.)

Lillestrøm have been awful at the back, conceding seven in their first there games, mostly due to goalkeeping blunders.  Despite this, they have managed to score, and it’s the midfield options that stand out for points here. Erling Knudtzon picked up where he left off last season, and is alternating between striker and winger – looking a threat in both positions. Aleksander Melgalvis was an early victim to rotation, but has since cemented a starting berth and looks a bargain on the wing at 5.5. There is a case for drafting in Lehne Olsen as a striker, but he’ll likely be ignored in the clamour for double Gameweek assets.

IK Start were huge favorites last round, to the point that many were punting a captaincy on the likes of Kevin Kabran or Kristian Floki Finnbogason. Floki came good with a goal and had a good game overall, but nobody saw a 1-4 crushing defeat to Sandefjord coming. They will be looking to hit back fast. In addition to the mentioned players, Elliot Käck has looked a decent threat moving forward.

Sandefjord – Ranheim

(Wednsday, 5:30 P.M.)

This is the second match in the Gameweek for both these teams, who both won 4-1 in the previous round and should still be full of confidence, whatever the outcome of the first match.  We’ve already looked over the players, sufficient to say that unlocking this game could be key to your double Gameweek haul.

Tromsø – Strømsgodset

(Wednsday, 5:30 P.M.)

This  double Gameweek match looks hard to predict. Tromsø looked better and are tough to beat on home turf. Jradi should definitely be back for this game for Strømsgodset.

Double Gameweek Strategy

Entering into the first double gameweek of the season, the general consensus is to play chips now, as we can not be guaranteed another after Gameweek 6 is done and dusted. As such, many have already burned a wildcard ahead of Gameweek 3 in order to get their team ready, while some are contemplating wildcards in Gameweek 5.

Sandefjord scored on every chance they got and pulled out a big win ahead of their double home games, making their players tempting. Unknown quantity Ranheim came in to Eliteserien with a bang and a fanfare, pulling out a debut 4-1 win at home against Stabæk, and in the process proving they have the strongest Twitter-game of the lot. Cult hero Karlsen at Ranheim is a prime candidate for any striker rush-musings as they feature in both double Gameweeks.

Tromsø lost again, and are now firmly at the bottom of the league. But match reports indicate Molde had to dig deep to pull off a win out against them.

Strømsgodset, who before this round were one of the most exciting prospects for this double set of matches, ran into trouble as their top target Jradi booked himself on the injury-list with illness, joining Ulland-Andersen, who is on his way back from recent surgery. This has left the team looking somewhat shaken. All eyes are on the recovery-progress for these two key players, as well as top striker Marcus Pedersen’s form.

So what to do? Well, all three chips look viable for this first double Ggameweek. Striker rush with Karlsen, Pedersen and a third (Mortensen, Skålevik or Gytkjær perhaps) looks tempting and could provide a much sought boost. Double Captain should also provide a wealth of options provided you can tease out the best two double Gameweek heroes in an eclectic bunch of fixtures.

And Park the Bus brings out some real prospects, with the likes of Ranheim’s winger Eirik Tønne, Tromsø’s wing back Lasse Nilsen and former DGW hero Wangberg, Sandefjord’s wing back and set piece maestro Olsen Solberg, cheap option Grorud, as well as strong premium defenders from Strømsgodset all vying for spots in your squads.

Same even with only one DGW defender. Played Ruud, Käck, Tønne; benched Hedenstad, Kitolano.

If you have 2ft now, use 1 then BB for gw34, do you end up with 2ft after gw34 to use in gw35?

I think many have benched them and a few in dead teams. My OR/GW rank wasn't impacted that much when the CS kicked in.

Oh wow, great week so far! Used PTB chip and have Wormgoor, Lasse Nilsen and Olsen Solberg all delivering. Plus Asen, Nguen, and Lord.
108 so far, round rank of 18 so far, and I've gone from 48k OR to 2.5k!

52 points here. No chips played, and made the leap from 47k OR to 42k!

Should have wildcarded or taken a few hits for DGW defenders, and played the PTB chip, but can only hope for a similar result later. GW6 looks the perfect timing.

Still a good score with no chips played. I need to look but might wildcard before week 6.

Might get away with a couple hits too, saving the WC for later, but right now that looks unlikely. Will have to think about it in any case.

Karlsen hooked in the second half, is he a rotation risk now? Had originally planned Spissrush in GW6 with Karlsen, Ohi and Lord.

He's been a rotation risk all along IMO. The coach has said he struggles to pick a front three as there's not much between the attacking players. Karlsen is the first choice right now, but I can see him getting rotated at least once during the two doubles. Even more if Helmersen does well when given the chance.

That's why I'm hesitating Spissrush for GW6 myself. Ohi is perfect, but I think both Karlsen and Skålevik could be rotated. Skålevik might be out injured now anyway. Already got Floki. He has looked good, but not the best fixtures. Boli also an option, but don't like forwards playing out wide. A good week for Bendtner, but not going to tear up my team to bring him back in now. Leaning towards double captaining Haugen and Ohi.

You have two more games to monitor still..

Seems so. A weird one though - hedging bets with attackers but probably more to gain from clean sheets/def pts.

Might just work out fine this time, but in a future season I'll have to think more about balancing picks - taking a view.

The thing for me this DGW was the choice between

                  1. Defenders with exceptional attacking threat from average teams (Olsen Solberg, Nilsen, Tønne)

                  2. Midfielders and forwards from average teams, where most of them either are average and unstable, or at risk of rotation. Very few I would like to carry long term as well.

That's why I was so settled on Park the Bus from the start, and not going over the board with DGW mids/attackers. I initially decided to get the main attacking assets in Pedersen, Åsen and one of Jradi/EUA. Didn't stick to my plan due to the Jradi/EUA situation, and went for Haugen instead. As a result of that move I decided to downgrade Åsen to Stengel to fund Haugen.

                  1. MTPockets
                      8 years, 29 days ago

Agree on Park the Bus once it dawned on me, and attacking threat.

If the doubles had come up later in the season, I'd have lightened up. But not much info to make choices on - esp Ranheim, then injuries and rotation risks - so just sprayed the team hoping to cover enough eventualities.

Have to admit round 1 has gone particularly well. If Ranheim/SIF go nuts defence points to date still a win. Clean sheets a win. If Tromso/San go nuts has only cost a few cheaper RAN picks to try again for gw6, Pedersen got points and happy keeping EUA. Some luck there I think.

PTB lost a bit of attraction for me this GW for several reasons.

Sandefjord and Tromsø had been leaking goals and looked incapable of keeping CS. Nilsen was no longer an option as a winger. Olsen Solberg was rumoured to play in a back 3. Ranheim looked strong offensively against both Rosenborg (friendly) and Stabæk. Godset conceded a lot of big chances against Stabæk and Brann.

The introduction of Tromsø - Godset to GW4 allowed a lot of teams to WC ahead of GW4, while I already had a strong set up for both DGWs and a WC available for a clean up. That left my team with an inferior backline to most PTB teams even after hits. Using a chip suboptimally and benching players like Gjertsen and Boli just seemed pointless to me. I would rather hope for some postponements in the summer and later DGWs.

Nilsen not a winger, but still very advanced.

Olsen Solberg not only rumoured to play in the back three, he did. He scored from a direct FK though.

                        I see your arguments though.

76 points, 6 DGW players to go

                  + this GW:
use of "Park the bus" chip", CS on Kitolano/Woormgor, 20 points on Olsen Solberg
                  Lord
                  savepoints on Barli

                  - this GW:
Karlsen transfer did not pay off, also got subbed
                  still no points on Koomson

now when Lord has woke up I am sticking with my "Spissrush" GW6 plan:
                  Lord-Ohi-Karlsen

                Thoughts on chips for GW6?

Two Captains - Haugen and Ohi looks like good picks for this IMO.

Striker Rush - Ohi, but who else? Skålevik could be out injured, and most likely a rotation threat anyway. Floki had a good start, but two away fixtures in the DGW (one against Rosenborg). Will Karlsen play both games in his second DGW in three GWs? Is he a good option at all? Is Boli an option, even though he's used as a left winger? If you got Bendtner, then that's surely an option.

Park the Bus - I've already used this one myself, but it does look like a decent week for this chip on paper as well. Wormgoor, Rolantsson/Teniste, Tønne, one Rosenborg defender and then a punt on Käck/Moe/Granli/SGW defender with good fixture.

Still planning for striker rush - Ohi, Floki, Karlsen. I prefer the odds of known 3 x 2 games.
But Bendtner making me rethink it.

Small sample size but Brann aren't yet scoring enough goals for me to spend 10m+ on Haugen.

Definitely looking at Two Captains for GW6. I think I've missed a trick not playing PTB this time.

Niemi makes gd point about PTB GW6. Requires some extra faith in Brann, but they're a fair bet if you can set up for it.

That's actually strengthening the likelihood I use striker rush that gw - to try offsetting PTBer points.

                          Indeed, it looks pretty good.

It I didn't use Park the Bus this GW, I would probably have used the Two Captains chip for Pedersen and Åsen. That would also have been massive it seems, even with one game in hand! I've seen a few who went for that one. I have a feeling Two Captains on those two this GW, and then Park the Bus in GW6 could be the optimal choice. It's not easy catching two big hauls in Eliteserien like that.

Quite possibly. I didn't really consider Asen so would never have done that.

He finished last season strongly but proved a DGW captain fail for me beforehand (2pts & 3pts), Tromso weren't looking amazing results-wise and guess I expected couple of assists at most. He seems to have outperformed, but quite a few picked/captained him so perhaps if I could have seen the games my view would have been different.

He's a quality player with two home fixtures. One of the better players in the league, but average team. Playing in a very advanced role now. Team form questionable of course, and two goals was better than expected.

Plan is to park the bus with Wormgoor, Acosta, Teniste, Käck, Tønne. Avoiding Rolantsson as he is more of a rotation risk with the amount of wingers Brann have.

That's bold and potentially very rewarding. WC to fix your defence afterwards? Would personally prefer a Rosenborg defender over Käck, but I guess budget is an issue.

Used WC this week actually. I can afford Hedenstad instead of Käck, so I might do that. That would mean using the money meant for Pedersen—>Bendtner though. Käck with a DGW for 4.5 seems to be good value.

He seems very attacking, but I'm not expecting clean sheets from Start that GW.

I like the double captain chip in 6, means I don’t have to WC or take unescessary hits and I can the park the ... umm .... park the bus chip ... until the possible later DGW or mismatch when a few teams are dead and buried up against Rosenburg etc

Best part is that streams don't have commentary, so in low def it's yellow/black player passing to yellow/black player, who knocks it on to...

Stabæk could be more solid now with Demidov into the side.

I already own Floki and not moving him, but as said a couple of times before I'm not very tempted to use my striker rush on Floki and one of Karlsen/Skålevik/Boli.

IMO deserved 3 because he was very good in the first half and created the goal. But TLO was always going to get 3 with Rekdal (commentator) going on about having TLO in his team.

If I was in charge I'd put all of Tromsø's home games in June, July and August. Weather up there is so erratic. Think they had snowstorms in June last year so I guess even that month isn't safe.

Dilemma: have Rasmussen as a defender. Already decreased in value and doesent seem to have any more playtime with Hovland in the club. Huessing Rasmussen will decrease further..

Should I but Rolantsson or Wormgoor before Gameweek 5...? Guess its possible to even further value decrease on Rasmussen..seems like Rolantsson have a bigger goal potential than Wormgoor...

Don't know much on Rasmussen, except previous comments here that he hadn't played well.
Would probably get Wormgoor. Nailed, on penalties, DGW in gw6. But next game away at Sarpsborg not ideal as they seem to keep scoring.

Would look at other defenders. Rasmussen has been having a tough time so far this season, and I wouldn't be surprised if he only play certain matches. He is very young still, so that shouldn't come as a surprise.

As Niemi writes, he can get the odd game as a defensive midfielder (he played well there in a few matches last season), but you'll never know which matches that will be.

Rasmussen not likely to get game time, that's right. He could start the odd game at CB or as a defensive midfielder, but I would get rid of him as soon as possible. Not the ideal fixture for Wormgoor, but he plays for one of the best defensive teams and is on penalties. A must for the DGW and a great pick long term. I'm playing Wormgoor myself next GW over my cheaper alternatives with better fixtures.

Dilemma: have Karlsen, Pedersen, Ohi as attackers. Midfield: gamst, Kabran, Jradi and Nguyen..any good tips for next gameweek.? Both Molde, brann and RBK quite unstable point collectors in these positions..Even Mr.LordyPants..

Have Lord Bendtner myself. He played a bit out wide last match, while Søderlund took the central role (being a first defender up front). Seemed to suit Bendtner well, really. He saw more of the ball, and came to good positions from the crosses on the right hand side.

Will be interesting to see if they keep playing this way. Can see goals for both strikers, if so.

According to local media in Sandefjord they will do quite a few changes to the team tomorrow. Ofkir will come in, the other ones not mentioned.

He's not banned by Molde and nothing will happen before August, so I don't think so.
