Summer arrival Mohamed Salah may have dominated the Fantasy scene on Merseyside, but the Egyptian is not the only player to have enjoyed a sterling season under Jurgen Klopp.

Roberto Firmino has been near metronomic in his consistency throughout the campaign, dispelling any notion that a Fantasy Premier League (FPL) re-classification (from midfielder to forward) would negatively impact his value.

Indeed, in his first year as an FPL striker, the Brazilian currently ranks third in overall points – a mere four points behind Fantasy royalty, Sergio Aguero.

Firmino’s Premier League track record is a formidable one, having recorded double-digit goals in every one of his Premier League campaigns to date. This year, however, the Liverpool attacker has elevated his goal threat to another level: a total of 14 strikes is already a career high, and his strike rate sits at an all-time peak.

Even so, we now found Firmino suffering heavy sales with managers now distracted by Double Gameweek striker options. The Brazilian is the most transferred out player ahead of Gameweek 33, with over 61,000 already disposing of his services.

Does Firmino’s form justify that exodus or is there a risk that he could immediately punish his doubters? Our latest Monitor article examines the data to assess the outlook.

  1. "Salahdios" revised plan - Keeping him on WC for GW33, but leaving money itb (1.1m) to potentially do Salah to Sanchez GW34.

Reasoning: if you eliminate the DGWs where Salah only has a SGW (34 and 37), are FHing 35 and could FT him in for 38, you are effectively only losing him as a captaincy option for one game (GW36). Obviously GW36 (STO) looks mint, but so does Kane (WAT).

If a pressing transfer is needed for GW34, or if I bottle it, I can use the 1.1m itb elsewhere..........

Go on - slate me 🙂

think the issue is finding the funds for Sanchez really for most of us, especially with trying to get Kane in

I just think he could score well against Bournemouth, then he has stoke. I'm tempted to drop in 37

So you are ditching one of it not the biggest points scorers in a season in the fpl of all time who has great fixtures and looking to nail the golden boot? The only way I would consider this is if Liverpool somehow beat Man City and there is a promise of heavy rotation in the league gws 36/37.

The problem of not having him is if he goes mad against the likes of Bournemouth at home you could lose out on 30-40 pts a time and rapidly go down the rankings.

I will go without Salah in GW37. YOLO

      2. Who scores more in the relevant weeks (34, 36 and 37)?

        Salah: BOU, STO, che
        Sanchez: WBA, bou, ARS, bha

Looks far from cut and dried to me personally.

If you have FH then the run looks like this:

33: Salah (eve) - miss Sanchez (mci)
34: Sanchez (WBA, bou), miss Salah (BOU)
          35: Salah (wba)
36: Sanchez (ARS), miss Salah (STK)
37: Sanchez (bha, plus probably whu)
          38: Salah (BHA)

It's not a mad idea - this is Sanchez we're talking about. Yes, he's not done it yet this season, but he is capable.

However, I've realised I can downgrade Alonso to Simpson (or another 4.3) next week and get Sanchez and Kane for Miki and Aubameyang for a -4....

          1. Oh yeah - forgot about the extra double in GW37 for Sanchez 🙂 Thanks 🙂

In my case it's just stupidity (or being distracted half-way through):

33: Salah (eve) - miss Sanchez (mci)
34: Sanchez (WBA, bou), miss Salah (BOU)
35: Salah (wba) - Sanchez pretty certain to not play
36: Sanchez (ARS), miss Salah (STK)
37: Sanchez (bha, plus probably whu), miss Salah (che)
38: Salah (BHA), miss Sanchez (WAT)

Is it a good idea? Not sure. If you use the FH to pull in Salah for 35 then Sanchez gives you 2 extra games, both pretty good fixtures. He'd have to deliver a lot better than he has been so far for it to work, but it's not mad.

Quite an unbalanced comparison when you've missed off GW35 and in particular "wba" for Salah?

It's a fact that he plays GW35 and Sanchez doesn't so why exclude it? It will be fundamental to everyone's decision to keep or not.

Think Salah will outscore Sanchez this season even with two less fixtures (taking GW35 out of the equation).

Chilwell is the one with his place under threat, but both Simpson and TAA are not nailed either. Perhaps just Dummett but personally I like the look of my team with only DGWers.

Way too much on the keepers there. Ryan has decent fixtures in 33 and 36, along with a DGW34 so think you should just do that and perhaps then upgrade a Chilwell to Maguire/Smalling.

OK, settled on this finally - would love some input:

    DDG/Ryan
    Lowton/Chillwell/Alonso/Tark/Monreal
    Lingard/Salah/Gross/Mahrez/Carroll
    Kane/Auba/Barnes

Auba & Monreal out next week for Lukaku & Morgan, and play BB

    Thoughts?

May as well start with Morgan instead of Monreal. Monreal could get rested after Europa League game in Moscow. Morgan has a good fixture this GW (NEW).

I still have WC available + all three chips.
Is there an accepted way to best navigate through the remaining GWs?
    Here is my first draft:
    GW33 -- normal week, 1 transfer
DGW34 -- play WC to get doublers
BGW35 -- play FH, to get a few players on the pitch
    GW36 or GW37 -- BB
    DGW38 -- TC

      GW33: 1 transfer
      GW34: FH
      GW35: TC + 1 transfer
      GW36: WC
      GW37: BB
      GW38: 2 transfers

If you play and confirm your 1 free transfer, before then coming back to play your free hit chip for the same gameweek, does the player that you brought in on your ft stay in the squad after the free hit squad resets for the following week?
Or are all transfers for the week reset, regardless of whether the chip is played after already confirmed transfers?

    Hope that makes sense :-S

Thanks. Not keen on the Burnely double-up either. The main problem with five in midfield is the lack of decent midfield options below the 5.5m price range other than Gudmundsson (if fit) and I think I'd rather have Barnes over him. I was also looking at going Kane-less (gulp) with Son and Alli/Eriksen as cover.

Is it madness to bench Lukaku (mci) this week over Morgan (NEW), Dunk (HUD) and Gross (HUD)?

Dunk has a 53% chance of a clean sheet, Morgan has a 42% chance of a clean sheet. Both also can get their head on a cross.

I think Lukaku has less than a 42% chance of scoring.

Hard to bench Gross for this fixture as well, surely he gets something.

It's madness to own him if you're going to bench him.

        This logic makes no sense.

I got him last week for Swansea at home where he got 8 points. I will also captain him next week, so clearly it makes sense to own him.

If I had additional spare FTs I would like to trade him out this week and in next week but I'd lose value and would prefer to use the FTs elsewhere.

Sure it does. It's extremely poor value to bench so much of your budget when you could have got Barnes (who would have got you some points last week) and improved 3 or 4 other positions in your team significantly.

            I have Barnes as well.

Spreading the funds means I wouldn't be able to get Lukaku or Kane in for GW34.

I WCed in GW32 and there was really nowhere else to spread the funds (I picked the template), except maybe to Sanchez, that would have left me with the same problem as this week with City away as the fixture.

I guess the point I was trying to make is that Lukaku was a bad pick in general, but you know what, that was facetious of me seeing as you already own him and I apologise. I would bench him, bad value and all, if I was already in your position. I think Morgan at NEW has more to offer.

                Cheers thanks for your opinion.

I still think he is a decent pick - would be scared going without him for GW34! Guess we will find out soon. 🙂

How did you spread the funds if you went without him - just in defence?

My SV was nothing to speak of, so I got the template (with some changes, Davies and Robertson in f.e.) and I kept it in the bank for an emergency and had an eye on upgrading Mkhi to Eriksen or Auba to Kane/Lukaku (just for 34), depending on circumstances. Mkhi punt didn't work out unfortunately.

Fair enough. My SV is quite high so I was able to afford the template and used the extra cash for Lukaku over Vardy so don't think I'm losing anything by having Lukaku, even though he is definitely overpriced.

This does reek of Captain Hindsight I'll admit, but since it's essentially what I was saying before SWA I think I'm justified

Fair enough - but it doesn't really help with the problem I'm currently in.

In fairness to those that picked Lukaku over Vardy, Vardy got a pretty lucky 96th minute goal (while not really looking threatening throughout the game) while Lukaku easily could've had more.

Cheers - I may well end up caving and doing so.

But, the cross for Iborra's goal went just over Morgan's head - he easily could have scored it. I'm sure I would have no hesitation in playing Morgan if he had scored it.

Sure you can. United have not exactly been a force for scoring goals this season. Against Man City away, the best team in the league, it would make sense to play Morgan (NEW) over him. The question then arises - why are you paying so much for him if he's benchable? The answer is - you shouldn't be, not based on current form.

Paid that much since I had no use for the money (no one else was expensive that I really wanted) and because at the time I thought he was the best captain option in GW34 (and I still do think this).

I agree he was the best pick for 3 out of 4 games. City was always going to be an issue & I have planned to do a Vardy hokey-cokey with that in mind.
However, Kane is now a factor so I may save FT & considering benching Kaku as well.

    Kane Vardy Lukaku

          So will I.

Personally I don't like the idea of hedging by only playing 1. Pick the players you think will score the most. We should only care about expected value, not variance.

            Clean sheet odds are:

            BRI: 53%
            LEI: 42%

    On my Wildcard:

Who should be X for 5.7 or less?

    DDG - Ryan
    Christiensen - Lowton - Chilwell - Mariappa - X
    Sanchez - Salah - Mahrez - Gross/Lingard - King
    Kane - Vardy - Barnes

Tried to keep some differentiators: Sanchez, Kane, Lingard but it is hard because they don't come cheap.

    1. JasonG123
      • 12 Years

Smalling if you go with Gross over Lingard.

Maguire would be good as well but you have 3 Leicester already. Perhaps just Dunk and use the extra cash to upgrade King.
