Dugout Discussion – Brighton vs Man United

The biggest Gameweek of the season kicks off on a barmy Friday night on the south coast as Brighton host second-placed Manchester United.

Fantasy managers will be focused on the away side, despite the absence of their most popular asset, striker Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgian misses out through injury as Jose Mourinho hands starting roles to Marcus Rashford and Antony Martial in his front three. Juan Mata also comes into a much-changed line-up as Alexis Sanchez is omitted from the squad.

Significantly, Paul Pogba is named on the teamsheet once again. United’s form player, the Frenchman has three goals and an assist from his last four starts and goes into tonight’s match as the fourth most signed play having been snapped up by 140,000+ managers ahead of the deadline.

Elsewhere for United, Chris Smalling could be a key figure against a Brighton defence that has proved vulnerable at set-plays. The Seagulls have conceded 20 goals, including 14 from corners – more than any other side. Smalling has three goals in his last seven starts and top scored in the previous Double Gameweek with 15 points.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

    Favourite Premier League manager

From a Fantasy manager’s perspective who do you think is this season’s Premier League manager of the year.

And who gets your award for the worst real life manager from the point of view of playing Fantasy football.

Could the best be Sean Dyche perhaps who lets us know if a player is out or injured in good time and tends to pick the same side each week?

Or is the worst Sam Allardyce, who says a player is vital to the team, right before dropping him?

Who is your favourite and least favourite?

Remember this is from a Fantasy perspective..otherwise Chris Hughton would walk it as the best manager of the season 😉

From a fantasy perspective I would keep it simple. Guardiola the best because he has given us some amazing performances/scores. Wenger probably the worst as he has fooled us into looking at good players who then perform poorly.

Klopp's style also suits FPL too. Salah and Firmino to be fair have been incredible this season.

I will never forgive Allardyce for conning me over Niasse. He's also my worst for taking away what little attacking intent Everton has and worst of all focusing on defence - but rarely keeping a clean sheet. Wenger, Conte and Mourinho joint close second.

Best may well be Dyche or indeed Moyes.... mainly because their team sheets are predictable and they have provided us with strong budget options. Moyes gave us Arnie, Dyche gave us a great budget defence and a great third striker in Ashley Barnes.

Yep I like Pochetinno too...he's always rotated full backs so that comes as no surprise. He's pretty much stuck with Alli, Eriksen and Kane all season...with only the odd benching. Quite stable....apart from not knowing when Son will play.

Mourinho very frustrating - somehow made Lukaku into a steady not explosive scorer. Things like not telling us that Sanchez was injured as well are frustrating.

        1. Pep says
          • 8 Years

Funny I think he's one of the worst. For so long last season he said Rose was close to a return only to end up needing surgery.

The timeframe he gives for players injuries (bar Kane) is always impossible to predict when a player will return as he always says they're close when they never are.

Klopp and Pep have been great this season from the top 6. Consistent in their selections and give hints in press conferences.

Conte has been a disaster with Christensen and Willian.

Dyche is pretty good, when the team is fit the 1st choice is always the 1st choice.

Mourinho has been hard to predict with his centre back rotation and no one knows what's going on. Likewise, Wenger, haven't gotta clue what he's gonna do.

Allardyce was annoying earlier in the season with the forwards.

Howe is a complete disaster. We never know who's gonna start, I suppose it's his way of keeping the players on their toes knowing they can always win a place if they do well in training.

Best of the lot is Dyche! Pep been especially good this season and his wheel of rotation is a bit mythical. Ota, Walker, Silva, DeBryune, Sterling and Aguerro were all nailed on in the league when the schedule was one game per week

Agree Poch is one of the worst.

From an FPL manager’s point of view he is very deceitful in his press conferences. Look at his surprise with Aurier today, didn’t say a word beforehand. That would have allowed us to get Trippier in.

From an FPL perspective Howe had been pretty frustrating. Lots of rotation in attackers, doesn't tell us about injuries or if a player is back again. I seem to have been burnt by several Bournemouth players this season. Add the wild inconsistency to that too.

Worst has to be Pulis with his 'we've got a few knocks and niggles' without bothering to go into any detail.

Dyche has annoyed me a lot. Not related to team news but more in the sense that his team has cost me double clean sheets in the final minutes on so many occasions.

Dyche definitely - predictable XI and you know what you are going to get. On that basis even Moyes has been handy by never threatening to provide defence and putting Arnie up top OOP.

      When I see an FFS tweet saying Hughes/ Pardew/ Allardyce/ Moyes/ Pulis

The worst has to be Conte. Drops and rests his best players completely out of the blue and at random points in the season. Hazard and Willian both suffered hard for this. Also his CB rotation.

Dyche the best. Solid, settled squad with reliably results. 1 or 0 goals conceded, 1 goal scored.

Dyche for me, consisten line up and plethora of cheap defenders to pick from and Gudmundson has been great in additional to Barnes. Mourinho, Conte, Pepe and Wenger have all been naff by not playing players they should or in the right position time and time again.

Wenger and Arsenal really screwed me up this season . As a spurs fan the anger and hate already burns deep but every player I brought in was then dropped ( or injured) and im talking mustafi , mkhy, czec, Ramsey . I've never had so much bad luck in one season so I haven't actually got a fav. They all screwed me up one way or another 😆

Best: klopp. Has produced one of the most attacking sides ever seen. Tells you whether his team will be strong or not days in advance. Was rotating a fair amount earlier in the season but even curtailed that in the most part.

Worst: conte. Chops and changes the ream without reason. Won the league playing 3-4-3, so switches to 3-5-1-1 for the first part of the season, which destroyed William and Pedro as options. Randomly drops hazard frequently. Rotates the centre backs and puts a curse on Christensen. Chelsea dont score for 4 matches, then after everyone has dropped their players smashes Brighton 4-0 playing the 3-4-3 that won them the league, bringing William and hazard back as options. Then they get smashed by 3 goals by Bournemouth and Watford. Willian starts performing as their best player including motm v barca, now conte drops him and switches back to the 3-5-1-1 he had abandoned earlier in the season because it wasn't working....

Utterly bizarre behavior and completely unpredictable, which has made selecting Chelsea assets a headache inducing lottery.

Aside from a few frustrating things such as Mourinho lying about a player’s fitness, I feel I only have myself to blame or thank for making the wrong or right decisions. The manager’s style is an opportunity and a risk since everyone faces the same problem.

Conte’s rotation was frustrating yes, but it was my own fault for holding Christensen for so long instead of taking the hit for Alonso when he was in form, and for taking sterling and d.silva out to fund hazard before they went on an even stronger run while hazard blanked and got benched (i.e. tearing a team apart by taking out good assets is pointless). Stupid but this was my first season and many lessons have been learnt for next time and I have to hope others keep making mistakes like these by looking too much into what managers say.

Wenger saying in FH 35 that he'd use it as a EL prep made me go for Ramsey and Lacazette over Aubameyang, not sure he was that helpful for the rest of the season as I didn't own any Arsenal players but as a single press conference it helped me most.

Some solid moves there but also some unnecessary ones. Mustafi and Gross both had doubles so can’t see Smalling and Tadic in for -8 being worth it.

Favourite: Klopp for letting Salah et al. run riot & not curtailing leaks.
Least favourite: Moaniho for not allowing his hoses run wild & not reducing clean sheet potential with his sulking around Jones & Bailly's international minutes.

Everyone who did the Vardy > Jesus (C) move, funded by a -4 point hit has failed. If your plan all along was to captain Jesus then you might as well have just done Kane > Jesus instead, because with Kane's effective ownership being over 100% if you haven't captained him every point his scores will hurt your rank. Should have kept Vardy as a differential pick and saved yourself 4 points.

Kane TC for me, he doesn't even have Kane. Regular Sterling captain for him, I have him and both have Jesus.
      My Azpi v his Alonso.
      My Tadic v his Ramsey.
      My Arnie v his Eriksen.

Naughton and Monreal v his Vert and Morgan.

I think Vardy could punish the sellers.

Mahrez especially would be tough - we expect it from Vardy.

Got burned the first time round too with that transfer request - and I still went back for punishment!

Best moves in GW38 to chase my non-Kane owning rival. 1 FT and 3.0 ITB

      Willian & Vardy > Milo & Kane (c) for a -4 hit?

      DDG
      Alonso - Naughton - Long - Lowton
      Son - Eriksen - Sterling
      Jesus - Vardy - Barnes

      Ryan - Willian - GroB - Morgan

How much are you chasing him by?

Ten points but it'll change by the end of GW37. Could be v tight.

How about change up Son for a midfield differential rather than Willian? Tadic or Arnie maybe?

Tadic got City....I'd take Arnie at home to Everton.

Looking at trfs for GW38 and I'm short by 0.1 for Alli + D.Silva to Salah + Zaha.....soooo annoying!

Bit late now, but it is right to say Ki (Swansea) takes a fair share of corners and fk's right?

Crumb of comfort then for a rather dodgy enabler pick this end. Thanks 🙂

He's a good player, hopefully he hits a little purple patch,of which he has done in the past and earlier this season :). Captain Ki of South Korea is the key!

Don't tell me you got him too? I thought I was alone in that particularly bizarre move.

One hasn't got double digits since GW23. The other is having a season like Suarez/Ronaldo/Henry have done.
