The latest of late goals causes heartache for both Southampton supporters and Fantasy managers, while Crystal Palace’s surging stars send Stoke City down and Swansea City’s well-backed assets deliver little ahead of a crunch clash with the Saints in midweek.

Sam Allardyce’s Everton managed to share the despair among home and away fans alike in the 1-1 draw with Southampton at Goodison Park.

Tom Davies’ deflected shot, in the sixth of a scheduled four minutes’ injury time, earned the Toffees an ill-deserved draw that didn’t stop the booing when the final whistle blew seconds later.

The goal also extended the grief to those Fantasy managers who had invested in the Saints’ backline for Double Gameweek 37.

Cedric Soares, in particular, was denied a big haul by Davies’ last-gasp intervention.

The wing-back had provided the assist for substitute Nathan Redmond’s opener and was heading for a clean sheet, maximum bonus and what would have been the day’s top points score.

His 4.1% Fantasy Premier League (FPL) ownership instead had to make do with five points as he returned his third assist in five Gameweeks since being revitalised by coach Mark Hughes’ switch to a 3-5-2.

That three-man defence will now be without Maya Yoshida for Tuesday’s crunch clash with Swansea City after the centre-half was sent off for two bookable offences.

Jack Stephens should come in for the Japanese international as Southampton look for the vital three points that were so fortuitously snatched from them yesterday.

Who features up front in south Wales is open to question, however.

Charlie Austin started at Goodison, but returned just one point after a booking, and Hughes might turn to the more mobile Shane Long at Swansea.

Dusan Tadic, whose ownership doubled to more than 217,000 on the back of a two-goal display against Bournemouth, put on a frustrating display which has been all too familiar in recent seasons.

The Serb completed just 65% of his passes and failed to set up a single chance for a team-mate, firing just one shot from outside the box.

The team’s most popular signing for Double Gameweek 37 lasted just 69 minutes before being replaced. Meanwhile, Redmond’s eye-catching 45 minutes from the bench is likely to earn him a start at the Liberty Stadium, although probably not at the expense of Tadic.

As for Everton, the industrious Davies earned maximum bonus, with Idrissa Gueye handed two extra points after providing the assist for the goal that kept West Brom’s faint hopes of survival alive – for another few days, at least.

Stoke down, Palace on the up

Stoke City’s decade in the Premier League came to an end with a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of in-form Crystal Palace.

The match produced minimal Fantasy returns, with the major acts coming from low-owned players.

Star of the show was James McArthur (3.7%), who continued his superb end to the season with a goal and maximum bonus that produced his second straight double-digit return.

The midfielder (4.4) also found the net, and provided an assist, in last week’s drubbing of Leicester City, earning him 22,000+ new owners for Gameweek 37 and a price rise heading to the bet365 Stadium.

Patrick van Aanholt’s form has been equally impressive of late.

The 1.8%-owned defender also made it back-to-back goals and has two clean sheets to show from a highly productive last three Gameweeks. He now has four goals from his last nine Gameweek starts.

The impressive Ruben Loftus-Cheek (3.2%) provided the other assist on the day, but Palace’s more popular players had mixed fortunes.

Luka Milivojevic (13%) was booked and earned just a single point, although 34.5% of his 758,836 owners had benched him for the match anyway.

Wilfried Zaha (7.7%), meanwhile, was the most signed player on show, with 43,000+ bringing him in and gaining five points from an assist that took him to four of those – and as many goals – in the eight Gameweeks since his return from injury.

The winger could well attract further investment ahead of a Gameweek 38 visit from West Brom, although the Baggies are proving decidedly difficult opponents of late and are still in with a shot at survival if Swansea and Southampton draw on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, McArthur is likely to be a popular enabler for those requiring funds to bring back Mohamed Salah for his Anfield meeting with Brighton.

As for Stoke, their most owned player, Xherdan Shaqiri (8.5%), scored his first goal in nine Gameweeks to reward the 495,000+ managers who have stayed loyal through thin and thinner.

Then again, his ownership has dropped by 89,000+ over the last two Gameweeks, with 53,000+ selling him on ahead of this weekend.

The relegated Potters will go to Swansea on the final day, and the only likely Fantasy role they have left to play is one promoting investment in Swans’ assets.

Swans a-sinking

Swansea’s Tuesday match with Southampton is now assuming epic status thanks to a 1-0 loss at Bournemouth yesterday.

Fantasy business in Carvalhal’s troops had been relatively brisk ahead of their double fixtures, but Ryan Fraser’s winner, set up Andrew Surman, blew any chance of a clean sheet.

And matters at the other end of the pitch were not helped by Jordan Ayew’s profligacy.

The striker brought 143,000 new owners into the match – only Gabriel Jesus and Harry Kane were purchased by more among forwards – only to blow a big first-half chance when put through by his brother, Andre.

Cavalhal shuffled his pack for the encounter, hurting Fantasy managers’ prospects as he went.

In came Federico Fernandez, Tom Carroll and Nathan Dyer for Kyle Naughton, Andy King and Sam Clucas.

That was a big blow for Naughton’s 383,000+ owners, with unconfirmed reports that he missed out through illness. However, with Connor Roberts impressing at right wing-back, his starting role is now far from assured even when available.

Meanwhile, King (4.2) had proved to be a popular budget enabler in midfield, only for his 209,000 ownership to see him given 18 minutes from the bench after seven successive starts.

If Swansea fail to win on Tuesday, they will get one more shot at survival in Gameweek 38’s home match against Stoke.

Ayew and the Swans defence could still be cut-price options for that fixture, given its must-win status.

Beach boys’ bad vibrations

West Ham guaranteed top-flight football for another season with a 2-0 win at a lame and listless Leicester City.

The Foxes’ Double Gameweek 37, which concludes with a visit from Arsenal, followed on from another set of extra fixtures in Gameweek 34.

That had promoted much Wildcard interest in their players, but it’s all turned horribly sour.

Jamie Vardy (23.4%) blanked for a third straight match, Riyad Mahrez (8.9%) for a sixth.

Harry Maguire (11.5%) has led a backline that’s now managed two clean sheets in 12, and while Wes Morgan’s 3% ownership would have welcomed his return to the team over the last two Gameweeks, he’s produced just a single point. Defensive returns against Arsenal in midweek also seem unlikely.

Morgan’s starting role was assured with Aleksandar Dragovic restricted to the bench after a sickness bug, but he came on at half-time for Vicente Iborra as Maguire shifted into midfield.

Dragovic is now an early doubt for midweek with a shoulder injury, which could well mean that Morgan retains his start, while Ben Chilwell and Danny Simpson could be considered for recalls if they are fit again.

Leicester’s end of season slump could well cost manager Claude Puel his job.

It’s certainly prompting Fantasy sales in his players, with Vardy, Chilwell and Mahrez among the top seven most sold players so far.

Hammers nailed-on

West Ham’s most popular regular starter, Marko Arnautovic (6.9%), had the backing of 58,000+ new owners and was unfortunate to be denied a spectacular goal by the woodwork after a stunning second-half effort in yesterday’s victory.

But he then set up the opener for Joao Mario, who brought in maximum bonus for his second double-digit haul in five starts, before Mark Noble sealed the deal.

Arnautovic has now been involved in nine goals (five goals, four assists) in his last eight Premier League away matches, but he picked up a knock and was withdrawn after 78 minutes.

His ownership will hope he recovers for a second start of Gameweek 37, at home to Man United. The fixture does take place on Thursday, which gives him an extra day to recover.

Then again, the Hammers are now home and hosed for another season, with Jose Mourinho’s men likely to have more to play for as they strive to secure a berth in the FA Cup final starting line-up following Friday’s dismal showing at Brighton.

Magpies stung by Hornets

A dead rubber produced only intermittent Fantasy joy as Watford saw off Newcastle 2-1.

Roberto Pereyra scored and set up Andre Gray’s goal to bring in 11 points for his negligible 0.2% ownership, with Abdoulaye Doucoure also providing an assist for the home side.

Pereyra now has three goals from his last four home matches, with yesterday’s strike spoiling the plans of Fantasy managers who had invested in Newcastle’s backline ahead of their double.

The only bright spot at the back was goalkeeper Martin Dubravka (1%).

He saved a Troy Deeney penalty and was also awarded the maximum bonus to return 11 points for his backers.

Ayoze Perez (6.1%) ended a two-match scoring drought with a goal, set up by Javier Manquillo.

The striker has now fired four goals and two assists over his last six Gameweeks. His ownership has increased by 245,000 in the last three, with 63,000+ new managers picking him up for his Vicarage Road return.

Perez now sits on 20.2 points per million as the top “value” forward along with West Brom’s Jay Rodriguez.

    STARTS

Lessons learned from 2017/18 so far…

With just one and a half Gameweeks left I thought it would be good to find out what lessons you’ve learned from the season so far.

Every campaign is different with varied themes emerging.

A while ago the emergence of wingbacks transformed how we think about defenders. On the Scoutcast Bharat Dhody revealed how opting for four at the back and premium defenders ensured he had a stellar start to 2018/19. It’s a theme that clearly continues this season.

Salah has also been a major factor. Not since the days of Lampard, Ronaldo and later Suarez have we had such a reliable player, who is more likely to haul than blank.

Kane’s erratic returns have also been a common theme. But are many, including myself, are still in the mindset of this time last season regarding the Tottenham talisman?

What lessons have you learned this season and which do you think you will take into next season?

For me it’s to play ‘your game’ - the strategy that best suits you.

For some lots of hits and risks works out – I tried that last season, got my worst ever finish and learned from that.

This season I’ve played my game, few risks, look at ownership, focus on sure starters (well, Son and Willian aside)…the usual dullard approach. As a result I’m doing far better this season.

Another lessons I’ve learned is to go back to my tried and tested – cheap goalkeeper tactic. When I’ve tried that this season – with the likes of Ryan and Fabianski it’s worked out well – and been fun too getting surprise hauls.

Since I’ve backed De Gea my keeper returns have plummeted. I daren’t look how many more points I’d have got from playing Ryan since Gameweek 32.

Two seasons ago I interviewed the winner of FPL and he said pretty much that - just went with his 'gut'. I was quite shocked that he had pretty much no other advice to give than that. But to be fair it worked for him. It was his first season as well.

Can work - but if you look at many of the previous winners they have all done well over many seasons and in the main look to a range of sources of information - which can include careful monitoring of the 'template'.

Yeah, I’m not denying that this place is very useful but sometimes it’s so easy to forget there are other options out there because we all converge to one player.

I fall into the trap as well. It’s not easy to ignore.

My point being with 4m players someone’s gut will get lucky but most wont.

        This all over.

After four sub 7k seasons on the spin I will struggle to break 200k this time. I have played as a ‘casual’ with the following errors:

        - dropping 343 and messing with a cheap striker
        - buying rotation risks and injury prone players
        - too many hits chasing points
        - making rash late decisions on hunches rather than taking in all the info and being measured.

Humbling experience after all the decent times. Shows you can’t take eye off the ball. Yes there are daft amounts of luck involved but you can try and make the odds 60 40 where possible and I have failed. Back to basics next season

Cheap goalkeeper tactic is the way to go for me too. First I missed all DDG points, than when I finally got him, I again missed all his potential points.

Although this is my 2nd season, I played almost the same as the last year, when I finished just outside of 2000 OR, taking lot of hits, getting nice TV, just wasn't lucky enough this year, trusted Kane and Sanchez too much while much cheaper players like Arnie have been getting points for fun. I guess sometimes it's better to have low TV.

Hold chips as long as possible do not waste.
Don't be afraid of hits if the players coming in have form to score big.
Do not follow the sheep, alonso, DDG etc look for the next big thing & get on the train quick. This year sterling, Salah, Ota etc.
Cheap can be good, Pope, Ryan, Lowton, Perez, Mili.
Check team on deadline day to look for non starters & injured & sort bench to suit.

      1) Form over fixtures
      2) You only need a squad of 13 players max - having two fodder on the bench is fine as the extra cash improves your core players
      3) Top 5 teams are miles better than the rest - focus on getting those guys in
      4) Be wary of players who have not had PL experience before
      5) More than one way to play this game - hits or patience - but either way you need players who play and so place value on those guys who don't miss games (e.g. Eriksen, KDB, Salah)

Dont fret too much about team value in the second half of the season. The cheaper options that some are forced into due to low TVs often score just as many points as the more expensive options. Been countless examples of this this season.

TV is overrated IMO. I have been in the Top 10k pretty much all season. My TV high was £102.3m in GW27 and GW28. Currently sitting OR 7k with a TV of £101.3m.

Follow you gut feeling Is what I have learned . When the masses go for KANE at the start, I didn't . And that gave me a solid start to this amazing season I have had. Till about December I never had kane in my team. Every week people used to tell me that "I am Crazy to go Kaneless" and 8/10 times it was the crowd who were disappointed and not me. Another thing I was questioned a lot for not following the traditional 3-4-3 by investing a lot in defence, playing 4/5 at the back . I backed myself on that and that worked really well.

The most important thing I have learned has to be to be patient with the picks and not kneejerk / chase points.

These things I did for the first time since I started playing, and will keep playing the same way henceforth

Agreed. Always captaining Kane and sticking to 3-4-3 instead of playing 4 at the back are probably two of the main reasons why the top 5 in the Career Hall of Fame have struggled this season.

But be flexible in your thinking - next season might be different.
For a start, a lot depends on how FPL set the prices and the price change algorithm.

Motivation is a thing - quite a few (myself included) ignored city, because we thought they would take off.

Their motivation to break records has been outstanding.

On the other end, look at Leicester, no motivation, no results.

Yeah right. If you cost 13M and can't give consistent points ( eg 2,2,2,2,2,13,2,2,2,13,14) you are definitely not worth keeping in the team .

Exactly!!! Many people have captained him the most times this season, and he's failed more often than not.
Maybe things will change when they return to their home ground. But that pricetag is too steep if he can't provide consistent returns.

Sometimes it’s possible to overthink the game and feel you have to be proactive and change things every week. My best seasons have been when I’ve just done my own thing and only really planned my second WC and navigating the blanks and DGWs. This season has been a bit all over the place for me. Jumping from one potential midfield pony getting to the next. Also because of a bad start, my ML head to head cup has been far more important than OR.

      - You have to get over your FOMO (fear of missing out).
      - Hits need incredibly strong reasoning to be justified, and more often than not are bad.
      - Expected points is an excellent way of thinking about the game
      - xG/xA are the most effective stats for looking at whether players over/underperformed.
      - Team structure is more important than people realise, in the context of what players are available at certain price points
      - Always captain Salah.
      - If I player costs 13.0 and isn't averaging 7+ppm, he's probably not worth having.

        Disagree with point A completely.

I only picked up Salah in December because I didn’t fear his hauls enough. And something like that happens to me every season.

Even last week, I avoided getting in Jesus and Sterling for Mahrez and Lukaku because I didn’t fear missing out on Man City enough.

You should definitely fear missing out on the players that are going to score big. And get them in so that you don’t miss out.

Ok well maybe I should add a caveat. When someone is the best option at a price point over the long term then obviously you need them in your team. In any given week, however, you have to accept that sometimes you have to miss out rather than rip up your team for the sake of one player.

If you'd checked Salah's xG/xA/shots90^-1 then you'd have got him in your team in an instant. Because of his price he was an easy transfer for almost anyone's team so he didn't really factor into my FOMO point.

Many continued captaining Kane when Salah was in far better form, because of FOMO and not trusting that their own judgement might sometimes be better than that of the crowd.

I agree with L&MM on this.

GW1 luck matters a lot - psychologically as much as practically
Differentials are called that for a reason - seldom work so don't try it again. Let others make the mistake instead
Revert to the 3/4 game blank = transfer out rule (looking at you Morata/Richarlison)
        Avoid Kane in August
Fixtures seldom trump form (looking at you Kane)

For me cheap goalies that get high amount of saves is one il be going back to.
Nailed on starters is my no1 rule so why I crumbled and went for Willian i don’t know.
I need to be removing the weak point from my team first which should be the most expensive dud before the cheap dud.
Keeping an expensive player in each position so you can easily move in big hitters to any position when needed.

These are just a few things I’ve learnt or relearnt this season.

Go with your gut and also, past glory does not guarantee future success. I, like loads of others, stuck with players like Kane for far too long. We endured weeks of blanks and then when they actually had a good game we felt justified. But how many points did we lose out on while waiting? Same with Alonso. Yes he has great days but for that price tag on a defender you expect a lot more

          Join FFS...
I’ve read the FFS articles for years, but this is the first year I’ve joined FFS as a member. In 10 years of playing, I’ve never finished inside top 100k. (Don’t laugh!). This year I’ve floated all the way up to 5k!

With that, I’ve also found that having a shot at a top 10k season has dented the enjoyment of the game for me. I’m so stressed about trying to keep my team inside the top 10k, that I sometimes stop enjoying the game at times. When I’m finishing a season outside top 100k, I find enjoyment in freaky weeks like this one where WBA takes TOT down, and MANU fails to score against Brighton! But, with a high OR within reach, a Kane blank becomes a numbing pain, not a reminder that this beautiful sport called Soccer where anything can happen!

            Agreed.

I have been away from FFS most of this season, and most of the previous one. It has destroyed my rank.

Many warn about over-thinking, but under-thinking is definitely a bigger issue. I've missed important information, particularly last minute news, and have not been using the great insight and tools available here.

          1) My biggest lesson this season was not to jump on sterling early on this season. I never expected city to be that good at the start of the season and expected that they would fall behind but never happened and also was influenced by last season where I never went for city assets due to rotation which I didn't adapt.
          2) also dont swap defenders and gks. I did fab to pick and Alonso to Otamendi and Christensen at all the wrong times and just trust the premiums to return over the long run

While attacking defenders have served me pretty well, they’re expensive, and come at the cost of premium midfielders, who have the potential to score more.

Early on this season, I tried five at the back for the first time ever. They all kept clean sheets, as did my goalkeeper, but I still managed to get a red arrow. I think I captained Kane, who blanked. I didn’t captain Lukaku, who scored, and didn’t own any Man City assets, who put seven or eight past Stoke that week.

All my money was tied up in defence and I struggled to completely reshape my team to accommodate for Sterling and Salah. I avoided Salah until December, which ruined my season.

I have learnt how much form and fixtures count together. Wish I had picked aguero in his period of great fixtures without Jesus.

And attackers far more important than defenders due to their higher ceiling. So go for cheap defenders with attacking potential. Masuaku cedric this gw.

Had pope as cheap goalie and served me very well.

Don’t play fh chip in gw22. Really missed not having it in freaky gw35.

The other thing is form. If players showing good form get them in especially if fixtures kind.

And play players like arnie and zaha if they are midfielders playing as forwards.

I also play attackers that excite. Got lingard in and instantly regretted it

9 seasons of FPL for me and every season is different. I hugely doubt there are such general lessons that carry from one season to another, except the obvious save your chips to DGWs kind of things.

Every season, the dynamic is different. One season will be good for attacking defender, another will be all about forwards. One season will have a consistent obvious captain choice, most seasons won’t. One season your risks will pay off and another the same kind of risks won’t.

            - Don't take too many hits.
            - No need to spend too much money on defenders. (CS and attacking returns are not worth it.)
            - Bandwagons are not always a bad thing, get a player in his purple patch and it can really help you.
            - Don't let a bad GW ruin your plans.
            - Wildcard is the most important chip in the game.. by far.
            - Don't bother with teams below the top 6.

This game is just as much about not owning players as it is about owning players.

Don’t own Sterling this week? Prepare for a huge fall in rank if he hauls, even if the rest of your team performs well.

This is why the anti-‘lol @‘ posts annoy me. Why can’t we celebrate when the players we don’t own fail? How is it any different to celebrating when our own players score well?

            1) Reduce the number of hits, and do it with 2 FTs. We care so much about BAPs but hardly flinch when it comes to throwing away -4. Always see hits as a package, not as independent.

            2) To resist hits, you need a strong bench. So when your bench comes on and jealous people saying it's jam, it's not. It's just good strategy.

Put this season down as a bad one where Luck chose not to come my way. Next season strategy, go with my inner feelings, carry on watching loads of games and use the eye test to pick the players. Form over fixtures, regardless of a double gameweek. Have a bench full of fodder, so i don't have good players big scores staring at me being stuck on the bench. Will look at stats less, clouds my judgment when making decisions.
Looking forward to next season, quickly forgetting this one.

There is a lot of valuable advice on here but the trick is to dont let ypurself be influenced by other people's ideas/fears - ie. "Kane is due, Kane will haul, you leaving him out at your own risk".

To be clear Harry Kane ruined my seaon and I got only myself to blame for it, next season I wil try to be lot more independant when making decisions.

I'm already considering going 4-5-1 for next year. Or 3-5-2 with a cheaper 2nd striker. Too many times my premium strikers (Kane, Morata, Lukaku) have blanked, often as captains.

You can't make decisions yet. I suspect FPL will revalue strikers to make them more competitive with midfielders. Kane, Morata, Lacazette, Aguero, Jesus etc all overpriced. Firmino and Vardy will be put up in price.

Yes it depends on price and classification. I guess what I mean is that this year I put to much emphasis on forwards when midfield was where the points were at.

Agree that the premium forwards are overpriced. Esp considering they get 1 point less than mids for goals and no CS point.

Don't look at second best players from the best teams. Someone like Groß is far superior to Willian or Son, even though it feels weird writing that.

Players like Kane and Lukaku cost too much for their returns.

This week Gross maybe better but Son is still in the top 7 midfielders in the game. I think many just have blinkers in because he’s not delivered the last few games. Just like Mahrez.

I'm sat at 18k having taken no hits. Fielding a settled side has worked for. Early on I identified that City & Liverpool were the too scorers and so doubled up with only Kane as a main striker. I rotated two strikers with Gross and it seemed to work ok.

As highlighted gut feeling is a big edge. And sitting tight when you are unsure on a transfer seems to pay off. If in doubt don't do it!

I think it's don't go overboard in the double gameweeks. The big teams rotate so much that whoever you bring in from them only plays once. Or is generally tired and subbed early in the second game. It also tempts you to bring in more players from out-of-form teams just because they play twice. I think I'll apply form over fixtures when making transfer decisions for a double game week next season.

            Stubbornness.

Through stubbornness I thought after the first few months that Man City wouldn’t go on scoring bucket loads per game and neither would Salah. Missed out on too many Man City goals and I’ve only captained Salah a handful of times this season.

From a top 400 finish last season i’m sitting around 50k this season and what’s worse is that I can’t win my either of my two ML’s both with a nice pot of cash on the line.

Also trying to be ‘too clever’ with the original Kane Exit hurt a real lot.

I’ve also put too much thinking into the doubles and blanks. My main rival is 100 points above me and has had hauls in doubles and blanks without even planning. He hit 108 points in GW34 by bench boosting non DGW’ers such as Foster, Dawson, Tomkins and Shaqiri.

He’s done well with Francis, Shaqiri and Foster this DGW too.

My main way of playing the game is always form over fixtures and planning too hard for the blanks and doubles has forced me to ignore that. That’s what I put down as the main reason I’ve failed this season. Form should always trumps fixtures, for me anyway.

Ive learnt not to play with FOMO (fear of missing out)
Kane has been my captain many times this season because i feared his hatrick.
I captained both but also many many blanks!
As someone with salah since GW1 i regret not noticing how consistent he was until after 20 something GWs..

After an interesting visit to a Tarot card reader, I decided to make my own fpl tarot cards by using Panini stickers. Unfortunately it hasn't paid off as well as I'd hoped and I'm on for my worst ever season. Plus I'm down £500 in fees to the old lady who reads the cards for me.

This is my first season playing FPL. Had a goal of reaching top 250k, but currently not too far off reaching top 100k. Can't complain!

Started the season with Salah in midfield in GW1, and have captained him 14 times. What I've learned from this season, is that strikers usually don't deliver the points you expect them to. Had Kane for a total of 19 GW's (bringing him in for the first time in GW 8), without getting that many points. Didn't put the armband on him most of the time either, as other options (Salah) seemed better.

Spending money in midfield seem to have been the way to go. won't be surprised if I'll do the same next season, either.

I have learned many lessons but the main big one is .... be ruthless with points over team value ...

... so do not be afraid to rotate your premium attackers when they are out of form or missing games, for fear of losing a few ££££. there is always a cheaper alternative enabler available to balance the books 🙂

Kane wins both awards for villain and troll of the season. Flatters to deceive with a haul every once in a while to temp owners to keep him but goes on to disappoint for long periods destroying ranks and team balance. Thank god I opted against him on my GW32 WC and haven't regretted it once.

Leave Kane out of your team during August and until he shows some form.

If he gets a brace/hattrick, bring him in immediately.

Captain in form players even if they're not "fantasy royalty"...I held off captaining Salah for WAY too long, killed my season.

Don't try to be clever...I was a victim of Kanexit #1...the other reason for a miserable season.

Don't ever buy Hazard...he's NEVER coming into my team again!

Try to lay off the hits.

Don't play the money game, they've completely changed the price rise/drops (not for the better)

This was the year I applied lessons from previous years, primarily don’t panic when things aren’t going your way, just keep making the best decision you can with the information you have and trust that your luck will turn around.

Crossroad descisions over the season 4/6 gone wrong is what is keeping me at 10k instead of top 100. Taken too many hits over the season but a lot paid off. But in the end it is all about the crossroads.

For me, I think I need to learn to value clean sheet potential more. I have tended to ignore defenders without any goal threat for the last two seasons, because I trust that clean sheets are 'too unpredictable', since it's more of a team thing than an individual thing.

It bit me last season as I under-valued Chelsea defenders. This season, I've had Azpi and Alonso most of the season, to try and cash-in on more 'predictable' clean sheets, but at the expense of the teams in defensive form, such as United (for most of the season) and cheaper players from lower teams.

This is not to say that wingbacks won't be desirable next season, but there are goal-scoring CBs in many teams, and I plan to include them in my plans next season.

go with your gut. I've missed certain bandwagons like Shaqiri because just couldn't see it.
Hits a matter of personal preference. Taken 64pts still hanging on in top 100 just.
don't try and be too clever. mistakes on FH cost me 20 odd pts and top 20 OR.
realize exactly same strategy next year could easily not work.
realization that more and more each season squad rotation at the big clubs is increasing.

You need a good start, or at least by Christmas now to get a decent rank. Taking risks is punished and trying to predict is impossible, so no chance of making up ground for the majority.

Cant compare Martial to those three. They were young trying to break into a side that already had top names in those positions. Who says De Bruyne, Salah or Lukaku would be the same players they are now without that disappointment? Chelsea have all the top top young talent, so do City. The likelihood that a top player will emerge from their academy that couldn't break into their first team is high.

Martial on the other hand was a big money signing, his talent is there for everyone to see. But for some reason behind the scenes, Mourinho doesnt trust him. Too inconsistent? Not a good work ethic? Everyone knows his talent but is he realising it?

Find that line between doing sensible moves but not strictly following the template.

Someone who works for Leicester told me the club didn’t want Europa League, but seeing Mahrez in 95% of GW32 wildcard teams scared me. Still put him in.

Kane looks like he’s been running in treacle since he’s come back, but again, too scared to back my eyes and do something about it.

Ownership, hits, etc. are so important, but trust your gut (errr, some of the time)

I say that, but I know I’ll be getting scared about only having a third of the GW1 RMT template teams next season

That 7 point swing of Cedric is still hurting. 6th minute of 4 minute extra time is causing ever more grief. Cash league prize is 2k dollars but rivals lead is now 32 points.

I know you'll all probably disagree for FPL reasons, but it's criminal that Sky are showing the forgone conclusion and dead rubber that is Man City vs Huddersfield and not a 2nd Championship game at 12:30

I think Everton need to be realistic. They are the 7th best team in the PL (poor start cost them this season). You can't play good football and stay up in this league unless you are in the Top 6 - ask Stoke, WBA, Southampton, Swansea etc. I have seen Bournemouth - they play crap football - but because they score and concede goals it seems exciting.

So no club outside the top six should have greater ambition?

Fat Sam is a dinosaur and the only aim every season with him is to survive. And play awful, negative football to boot.

                      No fan wants that.

Have your ambition, but don't try to do it in one or two seasons. Will take you 5 if you are lucky, unless you are willing to break financial fair play rules.
