We are delighted to announce the official launch of the Fantasy Football book ‘Wasting Your Wildcard‘.

Written by regular site contributor David Wardale and fully endorsed by Fantasy Football Scout, it will be out on Thursday, July 26, to plug the painful gap between the end of the World Cup and start of the 2018/19 Premier League season.

Subtitled ‘The Method and Madness of Fantasy Football’, the book is being published by Penguin’s respected sports imprint, Yellow Jersey Press, and is packed with hints and tips from some of the best Fantasy managers out there.

But it is as much about the people as the game, with stories of glory and despair, mini-league skulduggery and humiliating failure and the strange grip the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) in particular has on managers from Australia to Zimbabwe and just about everywhere in between.

There are in-depth interviews with FPL champions and Fantasy-mad Saudi princes, a comprehensive look at the eternal conflict that is stats versus ‘the eye test’ and chapters on the history of the game, the all-conquering beast that is Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and what the future of Fantasy Football might look like.

There’s also a revealing section on our very own Mark, detailing the methods behind his successful approach to playing FPL.

Written by a fan for the fans, we think Wasting Your Wildcard will inform and entertain in equal measure, while grappling with the reasons behind why we, as supposedly grown-up men and women, cannot resist playing a game of footballing dress-up.

And to give you a taste of what you can expect, we’re planning to publish an exclusive extract for newsletter subscribers in the very near future.

SAVE £5 WHEN YOU PRE-ORDER WASTING YOUR WILDCARD WITH WATERSTONES.COM! Simply enter the discout code SCOUT18 at checkout and you can save a fiver – one third off the cover price.

Australian fans can order through Booktopia.

Once my Mrs burst into the living room and I was responding to a RMT. So my huge Elmo picture was in view and I was explaining why a hit for gw38 is a poor strategy.

Luckily I matched to alt + Ctrl onto pornhub in time !

    She will never know.

ha, I’d just started hanging around with a group of dads from my kids school and found out they played FPL (semi-casually it turned out). when I mentioned FFS and the scoutcast I saw so much loss of respect in their eyes.

ah well I still love it all, part of the fun is full on geeking out to it all

maybe, they have a young squad and the monetary backing

if Liverpool get the right players and can stay injury free
      or
if united get the right manager (god I hope not)

Chelsea are capable of turning it on in one off seasons.

If Liverpool improve their squad they'll be close.

United have huge financial backing but don't seem to spend wisely.

I can see Man Utd spending hundreds of millions again and I think Mourinho will continue to get more right proportionally in the transfer market than LVG and Moyesy so I expect us to challenge.

I don't think Liverpool will be far off either. Keita will do well for them. Just need another 1-2.

      1. Fantasy Gold
        • 12 Years

Yeah, I think Chelsea without CL football clouding their minds will be very dangerous.

If Liverpool sign a couple more they could be close too.

United - I just don’t see it. Jose to be sacked mid-season more likely.

Think Arsenal might be a good outside bet to win the league next season if they sign about 5 world class players; keeper, 2 centre halves, Pogba and a defensive mid.

The Arsenal attack should be the freshest of the Top 6 next season. Mkhitaryan, Aubameyang, Lacazette (probably) all with relaxing Summers ahead.

I don't think they'll dominate. I think they'll be favourites most years for the next few, but there are too many chasing for there to be no challenge.

United and Liverpool are both decently close if they fix key areas. Tottenham are right there too, and Chelsea and Arsenal have the resources to pop up as soon as they make a few good signings.

Did a decent job at Hull mostly, but the wheels fell off in the games he had to win (Sunderland, Palace).

Didn't rate him at all this season at Watford. Surprised they finished so high up the table. They seemed to be a terrible side.

Does anywhere show half-season points totals? I'm interested in who has been great since January. Therefore including Aubameyang, Van Aanholt etc but not Richarlison or Jones.

        I don't think so.

You can see the highest scorers from each month though, by looking at the overall leaderboard, clicking 'select phase' near the top and selecting the month.

Not quite what you're after, but the closest thing really.

Ahh, sorry - I misunderstood. It's the former.

I could try and pull player statistics for the second half of the season when I have time.

I've gotten lazier when it comes to books,
Initially I would read the entire book, but then this changed
      to reading the abridged version,
to listening to the audio book,
      to watching the movie,
but for Wasting Your Wildcard I'll wait for the adult movie parody version with innuendoed title

          mahrez > arsenal
          Vardy > spurs
          Toby > Southampton
          Rondon > Palace
          ShawX > Everton
          Shaqiri > Burnley

Ryan Sessengon's Wikipedia page has one of the most uninspiring fact I've ever read.

On 21 November 2017, Sessegnon marked his 50th appearance for Fulham by scoring his first professional hat-trick in a 5–4 away victory against Sheffield United[31] – becoming the first seventeen-year-old to score a hat-trick in the top four tiers of English league football since Dele Alli in 2014.[32]

Started the season as a left back, but since about December, has been playing a more advanced role. Left attacking midfielder really.
