Like Boxing Day in England, May 16th is a big celebration of football in Norway.

As is tradition, the big teams get home turf advantage along with some small derby fixtures.

Most significantly for Fantasy managers all games kick off at the same time  –Wednesday 5:00pm, to provide a rare action packed 90 minutes in the season where all teams play.

Gameweek 10 matches

Bodø/Glimt – Tromsø

Tromsø are the first thing that comes to mind for the term “home team”, and have looked bleak without Åsen in their midfield of late. Åsen was a surprise absence against Lillestrøm as he’s been training with the team, but he  should be back in the squad for this game.

On this special day they are away in a classical Battle of the North, with a Bodø/Glimt team slowly turning their season around with six points in their last four games. There’s no must have players here, but Opseth has started scoring again for Bodø/Glimt, and might be on the cusp of a decent scoring run.

Brann – FK Haugesund

Brann have had a record breaking season opening, but are starting to show the strain. They already have their usual left-back out with injury, and this weekend right-back Teniste was carried off with what looked like a nasty neck/back injury, later turning out to be “only” a broken hand and a small spinal fracture. The ranks are thin, and we must wonder how long their squad can take the pressures.

However, they should still be able to muster a powerful XI when they host surprise contender Haugesund in Bergen, where Akintola and Gytkjær are still running on great form and pushing their team up.

Teniste is likely to miss out on a couple of games (no update on how long he’ll be out yet), so it’s probably time to shift him. Barmen is also likely to miss out.

Kristiansund BK – Ranheim

Kristiansund are the tight game specialists, rarely losing or winning by more than a single goal. Bamba scored again in their weekend run out, and is a striker to consider choice if he can keep a cool head.

The big in-form team though, is the still underestimated Ranheim, who won yet again at the weekend.  They are now the top scoring team in Eliteserien and their best picks remain the same  –  Tønne and Reginiussen – who are punishing non-owners on a weekly basis.

Molde – Strømsgodset

Molde are still struggling for form, as they host another side that was well fancied pre-season but has failed to deliver so far.

In fact, Strømsgodset are in a far worse shape, but did show signs of improvement as they hit the woodwork six times in their 2-1 loss to Sarpsborg 08 last time out. Ulland Andersen once again picked up bonus points, and his form looks to be improving, while Pedersen remains the league’s top scorer so far, having some big chances last game as well.

Molde have been hard to pin down, but Braut Håland still looks a viable option to consider.

Odd – Sandefjord

Odd had been the team in form, but Ranheim put a stop to that at the weekend, routing them 3-1.  This clash with dejected Sandefjord should revive their spirits though, with Rashani and the multi-talented Broberg looking the hot prospects at the moment. Broberg is a bit of a fill-the-hole player, having played up front, in midfield and may even be fielded as a central defender.

Rosenborg – Lillestrøm

Rosenborg once again delivered a 1-0 win last time out, but look incapable of killing off a game with that important second goal. Things did look better against Stabæk but without more firepower they will continue to struggle against strong teams.

This time around they are up against an old rival in Lillestrøm and Rosenborg need to up their game if they want to emerge victorious. On current form last season’s champions may struggle to contain a counter-attacking Lillestrøm side.

Picks to consider are the Rosenborg back line and keeper, as well as midfielder and sometimes striker Knudtzon from Lillestrøm. Hovland looks like an excellent budget pick, who rustled up another three bonus points at the weekend.

Sarpsborg 08 – IK Start

Sarpsborg’s form has improved, with their stopper Falch and striker Agger, who tends to be favoured for home games,  looking the best of their picks.

In contrast, Start are still in the doldrums and do not provide any players worth considering currently.

Vålerenga – Stabæk

Stabæk looked decent against Rosenborg, but have a tall order as they visit high flying Vålerenga. This game looks to be full of  goals, with top picks including Ejuke and top striker Johnson from Vålerenga, as well as the budget gem Brynhildsen from Stabæk.

Scout Picks

We’ve started tracking our scout picks score, but please not that we did not have scout picks for gameweek 1 and gameweek 6.

Why does Falch play instead of Kristiansen?

I want to upgrade my GK and he would be ideal.....

Because Kristiansen was injured at the start. Falch hasn't put a foot wrong (apart from the OG last week) so the place is his to keep for now. Kristiansen will probably be used in the cup and EL qualifiers.

4 goals, 3 assists and 'robbed' of assists on a couple of occasions. 4.5 defender.

And people still bench this guy?!

He's unbenchable IMO. Probably a tad lucky getting this many goals, but he's definitely a big threat.

I have a question for you, TC. Has Ejuke been looking bad or good the last few gameweeks? Really frustrating me.

Regarding Ejuke, personally would consider selling. He has been poor and frustrating to watch. Always tries to dribble, rarely passes to teammates in better positions. I wouldn't say it's a confidence thing because he's clearly confident enough to take the defenders on. Possibly just needs to work on his vision and decision making.

Apart from the Start game we as a team have looked very pragmatic this season. Get on the back foot when taking the lead and invite pressure rather than going for the kill. This could be a deliberate ploy. We don't look as naive as previous seasons and that's probably evident when looking at the table. We've just lost 2 games and if this rate continues we will end up losing 6, compared to last season's 13.

I really don't like making predictions for this league as it's a complete lottery. We've got Tromsø (A) this GW, last season we were leading 0-4 after 25 minutes in the same fixture. Season before we won 0-3 there. So there could be goals in this but if you're gonna sell then this is probably the right time with 4 ugly away games between GW11-16.

Currently there are just two good VIF picks for me. Johnson and Carvalho. Even if we settle for the 1-0s chances are Johnson gets the goal. And Carvalho is just an awesome player. Making ridiculous runs (for a CB) and taking dangerous shots, also a threat from set pieces and I think he'll become a baps monster simply because of the way he plays. Really good value at 5m.

          Cheers. I'm selling.

I like Carvalho, but no room for him at the moment. So many other good options.

I don't play players out of fear. I didn't think Tønne would do well this GW, and didn't play him. How else are you supposed to play this game?

      1. Niemi
        • 11 Years
        8 years, 2 months ago

I get why you benched him, but he's essential the key attacker (besides Reginiussen) in Ranheim playing as a left winger in a 433. A bit lucky to get such a big haul today, but he always has the potential of getting either a goal, assist or a CS IMO. Especially now when Ranheim are on fire.

        1. Ramboros
          • 14 Years
          8 years, 2 months ago

He also gets minus points from conceding goals. He has brought 4 points from CS so far this season and lost 5 due to goals conceded. As a midfielder he would've only taken 2 points less than what he has taken as a defender.

Tønne might be somewhat of a key player for Ranheim, but Torgil Gjertsen was even more important and only had 2 goals and 4 assists in half a season last year. The wingers of Ranheim have simply not contributed with many goals historically.

Typical Swedes, always doing things in a weird and complicated way.

Saw some bloke scored an OG, got sent off and conceded 5 goals earlier in the week. Guessing he made a mockery of Simon Larsen's -5?

This might backfire, but I already went ahead transferring in Rashani. Expecting a price rise for him. It will be interesting to see if Bendtner is fit to play next GW or not (flagged in the game). This might be the time to look at alternatives, then. The question is: who is the best strikers going forward?

I already have Skålevik/Johnson, so the alternatives aren't that many:
    - Søderlund (for Rosenborg cover)
    - Pedersen (scoring big / 1 or 2-pointers)
    - Bamba (leaves a lot in the bank to spend elsewhere)
    - Gytkjær (same as above)
    - Mortensen

Also thinking if a striker transfer is worth a -4, or if it's best to just bench Bendtner if he's injured - making the transfer for free the following GW?

    1. MrKlin of Norway
      • 9 Years

Bendtner in for an X-ray tonight, so we'll see how that pans out. If he is actually out Søderlund sails up as a clear pick in my books. If it's nothing and he is back next week I think most all of those picks are ok, but I'm still not convinced Mortensen has the value in him...

I'm not selling Pedersen, but -
      Form: Bamba
      Lesser form + fixtures: Mortsensen/Gytkjær
      Fixtures: Pedersen

      Right now probably Bamba/Mortensen.

Bench - depends who else would play.

That's how I see those four, as well. Not to convinced by Rosenborg's attacking form, but Søderlund might be a good option.

If I bench Bendtner, it will be for Berntsen or Nilsen (a bit depending on the formation I play). Could also bench him for Akintola, but Rosenborg have been good for clean sheets.

        1. MTPockets
          8 years, 2 months ago

I missed Soderlund. Could be good if Bendtner's out, although I don't think RBK mids/fwds yet living up to their price tags vs alternatives. Think I'd play Akintola, in fact I've got him in earlier - I thought the same about Brann clean sheets previously but was wrong.

I’ve already got Søderlund, so if Bendtner is out I’m going to stick the armband on Søderlund.

If Bendtner is fine then il be joining you with Johnson (c).

I think I'm going with Johnson as well, he's in good form. No real standout options this week though, so this could be the time to go for a differential.

On a WC at the moment. I think I had a decent squad before hand but with Bendtner doubt I pushed the button as already on -4. I wanted to catch some price rises, which I did. Really stuck now, there's so much broad choice. If Bendtner is out then ill probably switch to Soderlund, I have bought in Skalevik for now.

Who's essential? I already had big risers, such as Wormgoor, Pedersen, Johnson, Tonne, Akintola, Koomson,

I have double Brann defence but I've now opted for Wormgoor + an RBK man (not sure who yet..) Thanks.

      Rashani IMO.

Think I saw Niemi say he isn’t nailed upfront, he played midfield last week.

Comes down to preference I guess.

Broberg isn't really a striker, they put him up front because the other alternatives was injured. I didn't expect them to move him up front again like they did this gameweek with Børven back. Broberg has done well lately, so I can't rule out him continuing up front. Børven was subbed on though, and he did score as well.

If Broberg is moved down to CM I think Rashani is the better option, but still a lot of value in Broberg as he's much cheaper than Rashani.

Anybody that knows if Amin Askar is first choice free kick taker on the team? Does he take corners too? Who is penalty taker on the team? (S08)

Singh has been ahead of Askar on most set pieces. Thomassen takes some of the left footed ones. Halvorsen should be the penalty taker.

Worth takin a hit (-4) with Rashani in next gameweek? Have already Broberg in the midfield.. or getting in Askar instead of Hedenstad or Mortensen in and Johnson out? Askar have not been hot before last gam
Vålerenga heving some hard fixtures in front..Askar have been collecting only 1 and 2points each Gameweek sinne Gameweek 1(8)

Much as I fancy Askar as a fantasy-type player, he has not been consistent enough in when and where he plays (midfield, fullback, benched/injured). Would like to see him stabilise with the rest of the Sarpsborg team before he is a serious option.

Could do but I would consider Ohi to Opseth on a free with your team.

BG has a lot of tough fixtures early season so I expect they’ll do a bit better over next 5-6 weeks and Opseth is the goal man for them.

I’ve got Skålevik Pedersen and Johnson so trying to decide who makes way and when.

May do Skålevik to Opseth and I should probably do it this week for the start game. Very hard to drop the cheap nailed striker for the leagues top team though!

Hmmmm maybe not binning Skalevik for but Ohi may be a different proposition. Those fixtures are such a lure for Opseth tbh but feel like Ohi could burn me.

Do you know what position he’s playing?

Is he just a standard box to box CM who’s on a lucky streak?

Or is he an attacking Mid playing behind the striker or something?

sorry, but I´m no expert on Ranheim
I hope someone else can give you some stats on Mads Reginiussen
he have according to SofaScore 1.6 shots pr game/0.9 goals pr game

        2. MrKlin of Norway
          • 9 Years

he is a standard box-to-box, but Ranheims attacking play heavily favors the second run in the box, the reason he and Løkberg have been on such a streak so far. Ranheim don't collectively have the quality to maintain this imo, but if there ARE Ranheim goals you'll be sure Reginiussen is nearby to it, the reason why he is the hot target there.

Looking at the fixtures for next GW, I'm struggling to find out who to play, and who to bench.
    - Play Nilsen in a 5-2-3 at home against Vålerenga
    - Play Berntsen in a 4-3-3 at home against Vålerenga
    - Play Akintola in a 4-3-3 at home against Rosenborg

Playing double RBK defence (Hansen goalkeeper), so I'm currently considering benching Akintola, and playing one of the Tromsø players. How has Tromsø played recently, results aside?

Also considering replacements for Berntsen, but with only 0.7 itb and having to make a -4, it's probably best to just hold.

    1. Yellin' in my Ear

Broberg the obvious replacement but not sure it's worth -4. I'm playing Akintola and benching my Rosenberg defence atm

Have bad experience benching defenders lately. For that reason I'm currently thinking about playing the RBK double-up at the back. Not sure about Tromsø's defence against Vålerenga, so Berntsen might be the better option.
