As expected, the last set of fixtures was poor in terms of the average score, with the Gameweek winner coming in below 100 points for the first time since the blank fixtures.

There were some important lessons learned though, as some strained squads approach the summer break. As Norwegians, we have a rare glimpse of shining sun, and will tone back the previews to more bare essentials this time around with a focus on the key matches.

Gameweek 12 feature matches

Vålerenga – Lillestrøm

(Saturday, 5:00 P.M.)

This traditional Norwegian derby tends to be tough, tight and heavy. With no guarantee of good football the motivation should be high for both sides. Plenty of Fantasy managers are eager to see if Erling Knudtzon will be back in play, and if he will play up front or out wide.

Strømsgodset – Sandefjord

(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)

Strømsgodset have disappointed everyone with their run so far, although there have been glimmers of hope with a series of close calls and woodwork strikes of late. If they can’t get it together against whipping-boys Sandefjord, then we know a turnaround in their fortunes is still some way off.

Rosenborg – Brann

(Sunday, 7:00 P.M.)

Brann started in red hot form and despite a drop off in form they are still finding results to remain undefeated in the league. Hot favorites Rosenborg have had the opposite journey; they are now looking like a top team after a slow start.

If Rosenborg win this game, they will be top of the league for the first time this season. Their attacking threat and home advantage will be needed as a clean sheet may be tricky.

For the hosts Yann-Erik de Lanlay is facing a race to be fit for this game. Rosenborg manager Kåre Ingebrigtsen has stated that de Lanlay will play if fit, implying that there will only be room for one of Søderlund and Bendtner in the starting lineup. If de Lanlay is out for this game, there’s a possibility both will start.

MrKlin says..

Looking ahead we see Sarpsborg 08 and Haugesund entering a great run of fixtures, with some nice options opening up.

For Haugesund, David Akintola should already be in many teams, and with a lighter schedule he can hopefully explode his potential further. Frederik Gytkjær, despite his last penalty landing somewhere in France, is a viable striker for the next four to five Gameweeks. Also look to the defence as Alexander Stølås and Vegard Skjerve sail up as alternative defensive options.

In Sarpsborg it’s harder to find the right picks. Goalie Aslak Falch has well and truly secured the number one shirt and is a shoo-in if you are looking for a keeper now, while Amin Askar splashed onto the scene with out of position play on the left midfield/wing as well as taking set-piece duty. Kristoffer Zachariassen was a pre-season favorite from this team, and has crept into form picking up an assist on the sly in each of his last three run outs.

Bonus info: with Ranheim striker Michael Karlsen suspended on yellow cards, Erik Tønne looks to be the penalty taker of choice as they travel to Bodø.

Johannes says..

Sarpsborg are coming from three back-to-back victories, and have great fixtures coming up. It looks like a good bet to bring in someone from Sarpsborg now. I agree with MrKlin and see Amin Askar as the standout pick at the moment. After having started the season as a full back, it seems like he’s now nailed down the left wing in the team. He’s a defender in the game, and also on a lot of set pieces.

Another Sarpsborg pick I like is Ole Jørgen Halvorsen, who’s currently occupying the right wing. He should be the penalty taker having scored the previous two spot kicks. Both Askar and Halvorsen should be pretty nailed, but with Sarpsborg’s squad depth there’s always a slight chance of rotation. Aslak Falch remains a good goalkeeper pick, and Patrick Mortensen could be a good differential up front as he’s very likely to start every game.

If you haven’t got in David Akintola yet, it might be the time to do so. He’s still red hot, and has good fixtures coming up. In the absence of Christian Grindheim against Tromsø he might be given an even more attacking role behind the striker. An attacking double up with Frederik Gytkjær could be a good differential in the coming weeks, despite the Danish forward skying a penalty against Rosenborg. Another great pick from Haugesund is Alexander Stølås. With four attacking returns already, I think he’ll reward his owners nicely over the next week.

Another team I’m monitoring is Strømsgodset. They have great fixtures, with Sandefjord and Start coming up in the next two, and have shown potential in recent matches, despite not overly impressing. I’ll back Marcus Pedersen to do well as my captain this week, and I personally think Eirik Ulland Andersen will return to form sooner rather than later. Bringing one of them in is a risk though, with a mass exodus from Ulland Andersen likely if he doesn’t return anything and Pedersen is one yellow away from suspension.

Alexander Søderlund deserves a mention. In Niklas Bendtner’s absences he impressed with two goals for Rosenberg, who I back to win against Brann. However, I’m not 100% convinced Søderlund will start. As mentioned only one of Søderlund and Bendtner will start if de Lanlay is fit, and with this being Bendtner’s last game before going to the World Cup I have a feeling he’ll be the one to get the nod. This is only my personal opinion though. If I already had Søderlund I’d play him, but non-owners may be advised to wait until Bendtner leaves for international duty.

Have taken on Askar and Hestad this week but it was close between Halvorsen and Hestad. Thought I’d split the risk across two team and Askar sounds like Gilli v3.0, more CS potential than Tønne as well! Very excited for the coming week!

I like it, as someone who's a second season novice to this, it's good to hear of who to focus on (wondering whether an Askar Falch double up is sensible).

Better to have a few key matches picked out, rather than try to say something about all of them.

      Good job as always guys.

Had a slight knock. Was back in training yesterday, but had to get an ice-pack for his left foot afterwards. Said himself that he should be fit for Sunday though.

I'd say play him. He'll most likely start, but if not he's not likely to be involved at all.

He was subbed last game, I missed that. According to the text updates it looked like cramps. I'm not sure if he's flagged because he wasn't able to finish the game, or because he picked up an injury. Can't find an update on him anywhere at the moment.

The gameweek 12 deadline is slightly earlier than usual due to the CL final. Make sure you have your team set before Saturday 3:00 P.M.

Last week there were few standout captaincy options, this week there are a good bunch of great alternatives. Who are you captaining this week?

Who are you bringing in? For who?

    1. FORD MATLOCK

Pedersen in for Bendtner, and he's wearing the Captain's armband. Johnson VC.

I have a few good captaincy options in my team this week, but I can't look beyond Pedersen at home to Sandefjord.

Askar is a too good pick to ignore for me, especially with the fixture swing, so I got him in for Nilsen this week.

    3. MTPockets

Captain Pedersen although still wavering between him and Rashani.
Would consider captaining from Molde if I had any.

Sold Glesnes for Askar, despite SIF's fixtures.

Pedersen as well for me, although a cheeky punt on Tønne is tempting in Karlsen's absence.

Considered bringing in Askar for a double up with Falch but think I'll roll my transfer as want to get in Soderlund next week and already have triple Rosenberg (although not sure who out of Pedersen, Johnson, or Skålevik will go)

Don’t have the obvious pich Pedersen.

Their home form is pretty poor so far, but let's keep in mind they have played teams like Brann, Rosenborg and Sarpsborg at home. Against Sarpsborg they dominated and hit the woodwork six times, but still lost. I'm struggling to see them not winning comfortably at home to Sandefjord.

There are some warning signs there though.

      1. MTPockets
        8 years, 1 month ago

        I had a look back at last season - first 15 games/latter 15:

        1 cs / 6 cs
        3 wins / 11 wins
        6 draws / 2 draws
        6 losses / 2 losses

        Home:

        1 cs / 2 cs
        3 wins / 7 wins
        3 draws / 0 draws
        1 loss / 1 loss

        Away:

        0 cs / 4 cs
        0 wins / 4 wins
        3 draws / 2 draws
        5 losses / 1 losses

If past performance is any guide, they're tracking/slightly undershooting last season's trends. They certainly have a collection of players that should be doing consistently better from watching them, so expect a similar upwsing. The problem is when, despite bad luck, as think it's basically the same team so not sure what the problem is beyond confidence. If their reverse fixtures vs tougher opponents are away that's arguably less encouraging.

Against Sandefjord though, yeah would hope for a win.

I don't know about benching headache, you seem to have a good grasp of it there. I'd consider playing Halvorsen over Berntsen due to fixtures (obviously only if he is fit).

well, I agree Wormgoor could just as well play as Reginiussen this gameweek, but if you EVER bench him this is the game to do it. The alternative her is to play him over Berntsen and Halvorsen and do 4 at the back. Might be just as likely to work actually.

Very true. I've only been playing him as single Brann defence and benched Ròlanttson the last couple of weeks and will be doing the same tomorrow. Just see Wormgoor and Tønne as being both worth the risk in tougher fixtures, and would potentially captain both in easier fixtures.

Could be time to shift Åsen. Rashani and Halvorsen (monitor flag/injury first) would be my prime targets, or Ulland Andersen if you had more funds.

Knudtzon is also worth monitoring. If he's fit and starts up front I would play him over Brynhildsen. We'll know ahead of deadline tomorrow, as it's the first game this week. If he's out maybe he could be worth shifting for Ulland Andersen? Tough bunch of fixtures coming up for him.

I think all four are worth playing. If anyone it would have to be Wormgoor, but that's risky. I'm not expecting a CS from Wormgoor, but he's still the penalty taker at Brann and has received bonus points without keeping a CS before.

      Wormgoor

Wormgoor/Hedenstad - I'm benching Hovland and would probably bench Hedenstad over Wormgoor but little in it.

Beginning to change my mind on this - starting Wormgoor/Koomson/Skalevik but zero Rosenborg seems destined for failure.

for a long time I beein planning to get rid of glesnes but always had more urgent stuff. Now I can but looking at fixtures I am in real doubt as they seem very sweet. How bad is strømsgodset? are they as bad as table would want me to believe? Plan was to swap him for stølås but now I think i might save. any thoughts?

    1. MTPockets
      8 years, 1 month ago

I've sold him so bound to now do well.
Soft justification - whatever the fixtures I wasn't going to start him until form improved. By which time I'd have missed those points anyway.

I had an eye on Glesnes for the fixtures but Godset look a mess and they weren't great for clean sheets last season either. I would make the move to Stølås, probably won't do any worse defensively and has more attacking threat.

    2FT and no pressing issues.

    a) Acosta → Askar
    b) Nguen → Reginiussen

Favouring A. I like Regi but if I'm not getting Pedersen then I still like Tokki as a way into the Godset attack and he always looks very energetic. Not in a rush to get rid of Acosta but I think Askar will be pretty secure for the time being and looks very attacking, plus it would open up another Brann spot if I wanted Koomson.

    1. TallestJohn
      • 9 Years
      8 years, 1 month ago

      or c) Hovland → Askar

Which would give me the option of bringing Søderlund in next GW rather than Pedersen, I think he could be essential while Bendtner is away.

        Falch
        Hedenstad, Wormgoor, Tønne
        Nguen, Layouni, Helland, Berntsen, Akintola
        Johnson, Opseth

        Barli; Skålevik, Hovland, Acosta

Nguen the only rotation risk but he always looks dangerous and it's not like benching him worked last week. Probably gonna keep Layouni and Opseth until fixtures turn.

Really like the idea of Søderlund going forward so leaning towards C now.

Imo you need to strenghten your midfield asap
Nguen - 6 blanks in a row, out after Sandefjord match ?
Berntsen - 1 return in 5 GW, difficult fixtures ahead
      Layouni - 4 ass, 2bps in 11 GW, gets subbed after 60-70min

Hovland > Askar, and then Søder next GW I can understand

But 1: leave you with double Brann def through difficult fixtures
But 2: you also get double S08 def when you play Falch. S08 have 1 cs away against Sandefjord. Next 5 GW S08 play Ranheim 2x and Kr.sund away

Getting in a new defender. Better pick?
    A)Askar
    B) Stolas
Both great fixtures, both with set piece threat. Askar OOP, but Haugesund have the better defense.

    1. TallestJohn
      • 9 Years
      8 years, 1 month ago

I think Haugesund's reputation for having a good defence is slightly misleading, a lot of the goals they've conceded have been a bit chaotic in the box. Would go Askar anyway, seems to have a higher ceiling and playing OOP is exciting.

Askar seems like the obvious pick, but Stølås has excellent underlying stats (check xA chart) and set pieces as well. Could be a dark horse here.

I currently have Wormgoor, Eggen Hedenstad, Tønne and Askar all playing, while benching Nilsen.

Can also make space for Skålevik, but I fear the potential point returns of Wormgoor/Eggen Hedenstad more. Guess it's a reaction to benching defenders with point returns these last GW's.

Wormgoor and Hedenstad. Would consider playing 4 at the back with that defence though.

Grindheim would be a natural pick (he's injured this GW though).

I don't know about the others. Maybe Akintola? Tronstad? Leite? Våge Nilsen? Stølås? Haraldseid? Can't rule out Gytkjær still being on them either.

    Bench one of the following:

    A) Wormgoor
    B) Hovland
    C) Antonsen

    1. Niemi
      • 11 Years
      8 years, 1 month ago

C for me. Neither of Wormgoor and Antonsen likely to keep a CS, but Wormgoor has the higher ceiling as a penalty taker and bonus magnet.

Hovland much more likely to keep a CS than the other two, but not likely to get any attacking returns.

    2. MTPockets
      8 years, 1 month ago

Agree with C. Think almost all of Tromso's and Antonsen's points have been from home games.
(although finding it hard to choose between Wormgoor and Hovland personally)

      Akintola (VC), Koomson, Regi, Rashani
      Johnson (c), Skålevik, Søderlund

Yes although several decent options this week including Johnson.

Odd/Rashani home form vs Kristiansund away form appeals, but haven't got many captains right so far and not necessarily best idea - Johnson had better goalscorer odds last I checked and VIF-LSK apparently a very big game.

  26. Majestic Chanka

    Yeah, bench order seems right.

Johnson is a solid cap choice, don’t think anyone could say it’s right or not as so many valid options. I’m probably going for an SIF or Ranheim player myself though.

Best route to Soderlund next GW?
    Got 2FT 0.7ITB. Was looking at :

    A. Nilsen > Askar, or
    B. Knut Skalevik > EUA Bamba

But neither leaves much funds for Soderlund...cheers 🙂

    Falch
    Wormgoor Hedenstad Tonne Stolas*
    Asen Akintola Brynhildsen Reginniussen

    (McDermott Skalevik Knutzon* Nilsen)

Nilsen has a tough run coming up, where unlikely you'd choose to start him anyway. So A
(I still have Nilsen and should probably have sold him not Glesnes if I'd first taken a better look at fixtures)

      1. Niemi

A would leave him with five defenders that should start every week though..

Yep, I've had a similar issue with Hedenstad, Wormgoor, Ròlanttson, Tønne and Hovland (now changed to Askar). Brynhildsen is my only obvious bench player and even he's a decent option so giving weekly headaches.

        2. MTPockets

True. Think I'd just sell Knudtzon if still injured, although a longer break between games coming up so even that could resolve itself.

Cheers guys. What do you think the best route to Soderlund is? Sell a couple of strikers or just one?

      1. Niemi
        • 11 Years
        8 years, 1 month ago

Ideally I want to sell Skålevik for Søderlund, but the price gap is big. You could look at Knudtzon>bench fodder (Vetlesen at 4.3?) and play 433 for example.

Pedersen one yellow away from suspension, so it might be an easy move if he get one more.

I would definitely play Knudtzon (over Åsen or Brynhildsen) if he starts up front. We'll know really soon.

  29. MTPockets
    8 years, 1 month ago

Wormgoor's penalty + bp potential vs. Hovland's better clean sheet + bp potential?

Currently benching Hovland and starting Wormgoor/Koomson/Skalevik, but will get punished in rank whichever def benched if wrong.

    1. Oven Glover

            8 years, 1 month ago

Conceded to Ranheim and Haugesund though. 5/6 clean sheets since Hovland started have been to bottom 6 teams (BG, Start, Stromsgodset, STB, LSK). Molde an exception, and they were lucky vs STB.

(As only 11GW in there's obviously an element of circular reasoning to defining 'bottom 6' above)
