Introduction to the Article Type

With so many RMTs on site, we’re going to start collecting them in these RMT Community Articles.

Site regular and moderator ZoumasBloomers has here given us his team, and some explanations of his choices. Feel free to comment on his team.

This is also a place for you to post your team, and please respond to a few others while you’re at it!

Mods have been alerted and will spend some time on these pages responding, but this will work best if you help out others as well as getting responses.

Let’s try to keep the main article pages free from RMTs!

ZoumasBloomers’s RMT

Fabianski – Patricio

Mendy – Robertson – Cedric – Wan-Bissaka – Tomkins

Salah – Mahrez – Mane – Richarlison – Cairney

Aubameyang – Arnautovic – Sorloth

Goalkeepers

Patricio – 4.5m, obviously a quality goalkeeper with international pedigree, and Wolves have some tight fixtures. Seems a no brainer for the 4.5 rotations, after Ryan/Fabianski didn’t rotate well. Sounds like Wolves were quite tight last year as well.

Fabianski – 4.5m, still got memories of his seemingly random hauls last year. Guaranteed save points. Hopefully going to West Ham doesn’t diminish his point scoring potential (still haven’t forgiven Ogbonna from last season)

Defenders

Mendy – 6m, a bit of a punt early on as he seems to be made of tissue paper and not played many minutes, but from his brief spell last season it’s very clear that he offers attacking potential on top of a decent defensive record. Delph and Zinchenko don’t seem to be in favour, and there’s every chance of a very tasty return to 5 at the back from Pep at some point. Will monitor Community Shield.

Robertson – 6m, should be nailed early season, and has some pretty tidy fixtures. Will get in a few crosses, and very easy to switch down to free up funds if pressing issues arise. May even do a goal. Chances are high that he will become a Man Utd defender once their settled XI becomes apparent, but for now I am happy to avoid Jose’s grumpy circus.

Cedric – 4.5m, I’m expecting absolutely nothing from this bloke, may not even start after the World Cup, and doesn’t get as many attacking returns as he should. However, he seems cheap and fixtures are reasonable. Easily benched if needed. A rabbit hole I seem to dive down at the beginning of every season, at least he wastes less money than Bertrand did last year.

Tomkins – 4.5m, Seems to keep clean sheets when paired with Sakho, and does pose a threat from set pieces. Some decent early fixtures providing Palace start better than last season. Roy should have them in a reasonable shape.

Wan-Bissaka, 4m – Would prefer for this to be Peltier, but injury has put me off there. Likely to be perma-benched unless I shift Tomkins early doors. Could prove to be nailed, and should at least offer some price rises as people realise this.

Midfielders

Salah – 13m, I’m too scared not to.

Mane – 9.5m, I like the look of Liverpool fixtures, and Mane has certainly had a good pre-season. Could possibly be on penalties, definitely seems fresh, and gives a good coverage of Liverpool’s attacking options so that I can spread my strikers around. Will have to put up with a few 60 minute substitutions though.

Mahrez – 9m, all aboard the Pep Guardiola rotation wagon. If playing, he should be high up the field, and was experimented with as number 10/false 9 in preseason. No WC fatigue, just need to wait on injury news. Can easily become David Silva if signs are that he may not start. Fully expecting disappointment after I WC’ed him in last season and he cost me a top 1k finish. Could have some free kicks off KDB if he is feeling generous.

Richarlison –  6.5m, What on earth am I doing!? The man has a 50p head, and misses 1 on 1s for fun. However, £50m signings should start every game, and Everton have great fixtures. Should have a point to prove under Marco Silva, and a proper summer of rest after playing for nearly 12 months last year. Could well be this year’s bargain if he finds his shooting boots. Worth a punt, and a goal in preseason is a good sign.

Cairney – 5m, I’ll be honest, I’ve never seen him play. Looks the best of the 5m options for me purely because Kenedy has shocking early fixtures and Neves plays deep and loves a card. Fully expect Cairney to shuffle to Kenedy on my first WC. Will rotate with my 4th defender and 3rd striker.

Forwards

Aubameyang – 11m, the man that everyone will want from GW3. I’d love a nailed Aguero but I’m concerned that Jesus will steal some minutes in that GW2 fixture against Huddersfield. Saving myself the hassle of a transfer by starting with the Arsenal man, has every chance of scoring vs a travelled City side in GW1 anyway

Arnautovic – 7m, never a dull moment, equal chances of scoring a brace or elbowing someone in the head. Has been banging them in in pre-season, and West Ham’s fixtures aren’t as bad as made out (and they boast a decent squad this season). Concerned that Zaha may move back into midfield, or that his head will have turned by transfer rumours, so going with the early season form and security here. Only issue is that some re-jigging will be needed to turn him into Firmino if things go south.

Sorloth – 5m, Reasonable start to his Palace career, looks quite sharp for an absolute lump of a man and may well header a few in at some point. Likely to always be on the bench, but offers more potential than the 4.5m strikers. Nicely fills out an all Palace bench for me as well.

CONCLUSION

A lot of very highly owned players being overlooked, but a lot of decent price players that can be easily switched.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Where have I gone wrong, and where have I gone right? What do you suggest I change? Feel free to tear into me in the comments!

Remember, post your RMTs below in this article. There will be another new RMT Community Article tomorrow.

Bailly was the reliable one. But if alderweireld is coming in, all others might be up for rotation. Just my 2 cents any way.

Richarlison. Just because they paid what they did for him. You don't leave a 50million buy on the bench.

I reckon Wolves will be susceptible to through balls, which will favour Walcott's pace. Saying that, Richarlison's pretty rapid himself and plays on the last man too.

Here is my team as of now. Planning to do a double change in gw 3,get Aub in for Morata and Alexis out.

    Pickford
    Shaw- Otamendi - Robertson
    Mane-Alexis - Mahrez-Mkhitaryian
    Firmino - Morata

    Speroni-Mee - Bissaka--Sorloth
Got 0 left in bank. But feel this has a good potential in opening games. Considering WC as soon as the big boys get back and in form. What do you think?
Dont believe Salah will have as good of a season as last year, least not for that price.
Planning to get as I said Auba in, Young in after a few rounds. Then leave Alexis as soon as he is back on winger.

I think planning transfers at this stage is a bad idea. I'd be worried about Mkhi, Sorloth, Shaw and Sanchez, and there is no conceivable reason why Speroni is worth getting over Stekelenberg, so even if you disagree with me for the rest of it, make that swap

      1. SirT83
        • 8 Years
        8 years, 18 days ago

Kind of agreeing with the planning for transfers is a bad idea. However, an early WC is not a bad idea due to the returning premium players from World Cup. And I did say that was an option for me after round 3. But yeah, I'll swap the goalies. Good shout, even if I don't agree on everything. Alexis and Shaw will likely start for the next 2 games. Lukaku and Young probably rested.

    Leno // (Fabianski)

Bailly // Mendy // Robertson // (Boly) // (Wan Bassika)

    Lacazette // Arnie // (Kamara)

Silva for the first few might be a very good option. Prepare to sub him though.
      We certain Leno is playing?
If Laca is playing and Aub is left winger, that is a great choice!
Looking good, but you have a few players to watch tightly. Good going!

      1. Ginkapo FPL
        • 15 Years
        8 years, 18 days ago

That was my thoughts, Silva is the most reliable if not explosive of the options.

Nope, but hey I fancy a punt, 5.0 is glorious and I wont want to spend a transfer on that bandwagon if he does start.

        Cheers

A bit too much GK spend...you could get Ederson+4m set and forget for that price. 9m max spend if not going premium.

Looks like Toby might be going to United...Bailly might be at risk.

Mendy is a wait-n-see...everyone's in that same boat.

Costa tends to be an impact sub, not a starter...Cavaleiro starts more often...are you playing 4-4-2 or 3-5-2? Might want a nailed 5th mid.

  7. stat
    8 years, 18 days ago

    Foster - Hamer
    Robertson - Mendy - D. Luiz - AWB - Peltier
    Salah - Mane - Eriksen - Sanchez - Richarlison
    Wilson - Mitrovic - Kamara

With 12.5 to spend on a starting mid and striker, would you go with Richarlison + Wilson, or a different combination?

    1. DV8R

I'd probably look to improve that front 3.

      1. stat
        8 years, 18 days ago

        I'm playing 3-5-2 so I don't mind having Kamara.
Mitrovic looked great for Fulham last season, and had a goal involvement of over 40%. He's expected to be on pens too.
It's just that Wilson spot that's up for grabs - I could improve it but it would mean downgrading Richarlison - e.g. Fraser + Tosun instead of Rich + Wilson.

    Patricio, (Norris)
    Otamendi, Mendy, Robertson, Luiz, (Wan-Bissaka)
    Salah, Eriksen, Hughes, (Costa, Gunarsson)
    Aubameyang, Firmino, Austin.

        1. stat
          8 years, 18 days ago

Yeah, it's a shame. I went for Wilson instead at 6M - decent fixtures and quite likely to start consistently as his only threats are Defoe who is nearly 36, and Mousset who has scored 2 goals in 2 seasons.

Looks really solid. Good price spread and no obvious weaknesses. Kung is a concern as usual because of rotation, but every tear I say that, don’t pick him and end up fearful of his occasional 3/4 goal splurges!

Strong set up. D Silva could have his minutes managed and tough start for Mkhitaryan but should ease up wk3 onwards.

The reasons against owning Salah aren't enough for me not to go without. As far as I've thought about it, there's four things that could make Salah a worse FPL option than last year:

    1. His price is a lot higher.
However, it's not much higher than Kane last season, who I was happy to own and captain for large swathes of last season. If he returns about 260/280 points this time around, he should return good value as a captaincy option provided i captain him roughly 5/8 gameweeks when I own him. (Someone else did the maths on this; was on one of those FPL blogs)

    2. More rotation will curtail his minutes and potential for points.
This is a fair problem to have with owning Salah. Is it really pertinent at GW 1 though? I will start to reconsider owning him around CL. Until then, there is no threat to his minutes.

    3. He just won't be as good, for an undiscernible reason.
This could well happen. The best laid plans of mice and men gang aft agley, but there really isn't any hint of it happening in Salahs pre-season performance or his stats from last season. So I'm not willing to bet on it happening "just because".

    4. Money spread will be better invested than in Salah.
Again, this could easily be the case. However, for the first two gameweeks at least, I can't see any better option than Salah for captaincy (except Aguero at HUD, and there's plenty of issues with that as well). This means that I would be sacrificing the best candidate for captaincy for a more balanced squad, probably replacing the captaincy of Salah with a punt on Auba on the first gameweek (Sanchez isn't an option for me, and neither is any other Liverpool option - Firmino outscored Salah something like twice last season with a double digit haul, and Mane got about three double digit hauls total).

There's also, of course, lots of good reasons to own him, on top of these counterarguments to the reasons not to own him. And to those who are considering "He will be found out this season, defenders will wise up to him" as a valid reason not to own, I have to say only this: if they could hand done it, it would have happened by now.

Just made a side with the intention to go deep without WCing. Strong bench with captaincy and transfer routes in mind. The idea would be to strat forming a more secure starting XI after a could, as I begin to downgrade the most disappointing players to form a bench and use the money to buy the talent. What do you think?

    Ryan Button
    Mendy PVA Clyne TAA Schlupp
    Mane Mahrez Mata Deulofeu Hughes
    Aguero Aubameyang Zaha
    [1.0 ITB]

    Likely Captains:

    GW1: Mane
    GW2: Aguero
    GW3-9: Aubameyang

    Transfer Routes:

#Mendy: At 6.0 he could become almost any defender. 6.5 would be ideal but the 0.5 wouldn't be hard to find if necessary.

#Defence: I have currently avoided the lowest price point, which means I have more scope to downgrade whoever I want, whenever I want, as a single transfer or to raise funds and jump on bandwagons (although I'm likely to avoid bandwagons in defence unless I need the money or have 2FTs and nothing to do).

#TAA/Clyne: If it becomes clear that TAA is likely to play at least 7/10 games for Liverpool, then I can downgrade Clyne or choose the best 5.0 and play with an extra defender most weeks.

#Mane: I think he's the most expensive good option in midfield to start the season besides Salah. Choosing anyone more expensive for the sake of 'flexibility' would mean losing out on gametime or spending 3.5m extra for GW1 captaincy. I would consider selling before GW5 based on form.

#Mahrez: Either he or Mane could make way for KDB with the 1.0 ITB, but could also become pretty much anyone.

#Mata: Could sell directly for the best 6.5 after 2 GWs or as part of a double transfer. Could bench in GW3 (TOT) instead. It's possible he remains in the United starting XI for longer, but at 6.5 and with a strong bench, I wouldn't need to panic sell him.

#Deulofeu/Hughes: I just think they are the best value at their prices if they are available. I have enough depth to cover their poorest fixtures in GWs 4, 5 and 7. They can also cover Mata in GW3 (TOT), PVA/Schlupp in GW2 (LIV) and Mendy in GW1 (ars) and perhaps GW8 (liv) if necessary. Since I have avoided the lowest price point again, it's possible to shift either of them to better value bench option or an emerging talent from 4.5-6.5 in a single move (assuming I haven't yet spent my 1.0 ITB).

#Zaha: is at the pinnacle of a natural class of strikers. At 7.0, he can become a whole host of potentially great value alternatives if necessary. I'm not keen on any of them besides Zaha and Wood at the moment, but I'm wary that they potential is there.

#Aubameyang: Likely to become my main captain option for the first quarter of the season at least. All other players are the same price or cheaper than him, mainly for this reason.

#Aguero: Could establish himself long-term in my team, but I'm expecting to want to sell him within the first 5 games. I could directly afford any other striker in the game, besides Kane, who I would need an extra 0.5 for. But I'm really not expecting to want Kane with Aubameyang in my team and so many potential points to be bought elsewhere in the team. I'd be eyeing up Lacazette, Vardy, Morata and the 7.0s and below to replace him if I want to sell.

All of the above transfer routes are mere possibilities, aimed to cover a multitude of scenarios. In reality, I would be hoping to save a transfer as often as possible, and make double transfers as little as possible until I can see much clearer, obvious benefit to it. Of course, it's all unpredicatable, so I might be taking hits every week, but the idea of this team is simply to avoid that scnario.

    Cheers 😀

I think had Liverpool had worse opening fixtures I could understand it.

Because his ownership alone will hurt you. And half the time teams without him often don't appear to much better elsewhere in other positions.

In your case Mata is a transfer waiting to happen, rule no. 1 should be pick nailed players with perhaps the exception of city. And whilst I admire the detail, reasoning and long term planning you've gone into in your team in this post, I just don't things ever workout that way to the point where you might as well build what you think is the strongest squad for right now.

Thus Salah has to fit in that bracket. Like I said I might be blinded by it and we all have our opinions, mine is that he is essential.

A rule with an exceptuon is not really a rule. If you can buy an unnailed Manchester City player because he still represents good value, then you can do the same with Mata. But thanks for that one bit of relevant feedback.

I also believe your ownership argument to be bad. Ownership can't hurt. This is a debate I've seen 1000 times since the game launched, along with 100 other arguments for owning Salah, but we are on the RMT collection article and I haven't asked you whether Salah is essential or not.

Unfortunately, I'm not willing to change 3-14 players in my team just to satisfy your lust for Salah. I might put him back in my side, but the team would end up looking quite different to the one I've posted. And obviously I'm looking for feedback on this team, and not a different team that has a different combination of players with Salah. Let me share a thread for you to read; it might help you communicate with people who don't have Salah a bit more reasonably if you read some of the responses here: https://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2018/07/20/potential-for-pogba-to-have-best-ever-fpl-season-in-2018-19/?hc_page=2&hc_sort_by=comment_date#hc_comment_18386125

Case in point being my 'tailored' thoughts o your team was the fact that it isn't much better in any position at all to warrant going without Salah.
I've seen many drafts which has players like Mendy, PVA, Mane, Mahrez, Aguero, Auba and Salah too.

So thus whilst it's decent, a team can clearly be made with all of the aforementioned players and Salah so of course that will be singled out. I don't think you need so much money tied up on the bench for rotation etc either.
