Introduction to the Article Type

With so many RMTs on site, we’re going to start collecting them in these RMT Community Articles.

In our fourth article of the series, Niemi has given us his team, and some explanations of his choices. Feel free to comment on his team.

This is also a place for you to post your team; please respond to a few others while you’re at it!

Mods have been alerted and will spend some time on these pages responding.

Let’s try to keep the main article pages free from RMTs!

Niemi’s RMT

Patricio – Hamer
Mendy – Robertson – Shaw – Wan-Bissaka – Bednarek
Salah – Mane – Mahrez – Richarlison – Jota
Aguero – Mitrovic – Kamara

Goalkeepers

Patricio – 4.5 – I really like Patricio as a GK, I think he’s genuine quality. At 4.5 in a team that have strengthened a lot during the summer I think he could be one of the great bargains this season. It’s a slight risk going with a GK who’s new to the league in a promoted team, but it’s a risk that could easily pay off. I’m going to play him every week.

Hamer – 4.0 – It seems like Hamer have a shot of starting some games for Huddersfield, so he’s my pick of the 4.0s

Defenders

Robertson – 6.0 – Impressive end to last season, very attacking, decent opening fixtures and no World Cup. An easy and sensible pick in my eyes.

Mendy – 6.0 – I was initially lukewarm to Mendy as a pick, but he looks likely to start the first few games and Pep seems confident he’ll become a key player in the Manchester City side this season. With the amazing run of fixtures between gameweek 2 and 7 I’m taking the risk.

Shaw – 5.0 – Another defender I wasn’t convinced about earlier in the preseason. Although he’s now found his way into my team, I’m not totally convinced on how long he’ll remind a starter. Probably the player in my team I’m least convinced about.

Wan-Bissaka – 4.0 – Has made the right back spot his own during preseason, and is an obvious pick with Palace’s nice opening fixtures. I’ve seen Crystal Palace linked to a few right backs though, so I’m monitoring their movements on the transfer market the final days.

Bednarek – 4.0 – Emerged late last season as a budget defender and kept his price for this season. Seems to be prefered alongside Vestergaard and de Hoedt in the back three, but is facing competition from Stephens. A more nailed option is Peltier from Cardiff, but I feel Bednarek has a higher ceiling hence why I’m going with him currently. Swapping Shaw and Bednarek with 2×4.5 is something I’m weighting up.

Midfielders

Salah – 13.0 – Doesn’t really need an explanation. Been in my team since the game opened, and not going anywhere. Captaincy option every week.

Mane – 9.5 – I’ve had Eriksen in this spot for most parts of the pre-season, but Tottenham is a big worry at the moment with many players yet to return from the WC break, squad players injured, and transfer business yet to happen. Mane is for me the obvious replacement showing decent form in pre-season, as well as kind fixtures at the start and potentially penalties.

Mahrez – 9.0 – Been in and out of my team, but after the game against Chelsea I feel fairly settled with him. Looked dangerous and could easily had returns on another day. Bernardo Silva has crossed my mind, but despite Pep’s quotes I’m not convinced he’s a better pick for the start of the season.

Richarlison – 6.5 – An amazing pick at the start of last season, before totally disappearing. Had great underlying stats, and he’s a player I personally like. Everton’s pre-season form is a worry, but the potential is definitely there at 6.5.

Jota – 6.5 – Been in my team for most of the season. A key attacking player in an interesting Wolves side, and could even be used up front in some games. I’m well aware there’s a good bunch of players that do well in Championship but can’t reproduce those performances in the Premier League, but I have a feeling Jota won’t be one of them. Maddison at Leicester is also a player I’m closely monitoring and I can’t rule out him finding his way into my team at the expense of Jota or Richarlison.

Forwards

Aguero – 11.0 – A player that always finds his way into my team, who I love captaining. This season is no different; he’s been in my team the whole time and the game against Chelsea just made me more confident.

Mitrovic – 6.5 – A player that I like a lot personally. I hoped he would come in at 6.0, but I still think he could be decent value at 6.5. I fully expect him to be Fulham’s penalty taker this season, which is a big advantage.

Kamara – 4.5 – Decided early I wanted to go with a third forward at 4.5, and Kamara seems to be the pick of the bunch. I don’t expect him to be a regular starter, but he’ll probably get some minutes here and there.

Conclusion

I feel fairly confident in my team right now, but a few minor changes are possible. The defence is slightly risky but otherwise I feel my team is pretty safe with decent alternatives to my midfielders and forwards available at the same price point.

What are your thoughts on my team? Have I missed out on any obvious picks, or gone with players that I shouldn’t?

      Keep tabs on TAA
Sessegon not a smart choice this early a season. May play lb. Even Neves.

Rejigged this a bit. RMT please (Also apologies for spamming a bit early on, didn't know that I could not copy paste things. I'm new here)

    Begovic
    Shaw • Lovren • Mendy
    Salah • Jota • Richarlison • B.Silva • A.Sanchez
    King • Aguero
    (Speroni • Daniels • Schlupp • Kamara)
    0.5m ITB

Shaw will be moved on as soon as Young is back for Pereira (Leicester's fixtures are decent).
Pep's rotation could mean B.Silva moving on for someone from the Arsenal midfield (whoever is in form, Mkhi hopefully)
Sanchez to KDB depending on form again.

    OR

    Schmeichel
    Schlupp • Lovren • Mendy
    Salah • Jota • Mata • B.Silva
    Auba • Aguero • Tosun
    (Speroni • Cedric • Wan-Bissaka • Hudson-Odoi)
    0m ITB

Without Courtois going awol, I hope Chelsea pick up Schmeichel.
Schlupp has been player on the left wing in pre-season so could be a good punt.

    Criticisms please..

    Also,
Who would be starting for Bournemouth in goal, Bego or Boruc?
With Heaton and Pope out, Could Lindegaard be a short-term way into the Burnley defense?

Everton look very poor defensively. Not sure about their CS return until they sign a new CB. Would invest Coleman money on maybe Bellerin from GW3 or Burnley defense Mee or Tarko.

Guys I think we are definetly underestimating Shaqiri's potential. He is 7.5m and if he starts tonight In that hole behind Firmino with Mane and Salah on both flanks then I think this makes him a better pick that Mane. He scored 8 points more than Mane last season and is now playing for Liverpool not stoke. Klopp knows Shaqiri from the bundesliga days and I think he will be a starter most of the season just behind Firmino. Any Thoughts ?

I can't see him starting. He'll be an impact sub for when opposition park the bus and our super front 3 can't break them down.

Shaqiri will likely start games at homes against park-the-bus, but in tough away games and against top 6, the formation may be a bit too attacking. For the same price, I would go with Keita.

    5. MadridistaRants

I feel he'll be used way more than most of us expect him to be. As you said, mostly against opposition that sit deep. However, his points returns may not be as good from the furthest forward of a 3 man midfield where I expect him to play.

Thoughts on downgrading Shaw to a 4.5 to allow for the following transfers in a few weeks time...
    - Aguero to Auba
    - Mane to KDB
    - Richarlison to Mkhi

On about my 30th draft but I think I'm finally getting there, any advice welcomed

    DeGea
    Robertson Mendy PVA
    Mikhi Bilva Shaqiri Salah
    Arnie Aguero King

    4.0gk Cedric Pielter Hudson Odoi

Will probably swap Kun for Auba at week 3 but will see how things are playing out

    Thanks 🙂

Shaq is a bit punty, i think he will get minutes, but starts?

No other complaints, if cedric is a bench player, fair enough, you might get a cheeky haul from him.

Can't see many other options at 4.5

Agree on Shaq but could pay off if he's a regular if not I'll just swap him out for Richarlison or someone

          Fair.

I've gone Doherty but most 4.5s are good for nothing so wouldn't lose too much sleep over it.

          Rest looks good.

Some saying that Schlupp isn't nailed due to Meyer signing. Any truth?

Thoughts on my 442 draft? feel like it's best value

    Patricio (4.0)
    Bavies-Luiz-Mendy-Robbo (AWB)
    Salah - Mane- B.Silva - Richarlison (4.5)
    Kun - Zaha (Kamara)

    Thanks!

      Nice.

Davies might be playing CB for a couple of games though so his attacking output might not be there. Might be wrong.

Thanks both, feel as if Mendy and Robbo at 6.0 will outscore most 6.5-7 mids and that defence is where the value is!

Maybe Arnie to Zaha for the better starting fixtures also Hudson Odoi seems like a transfer waiting to happen but apart from that nice team!

    Patricio
    Shaw - Robertson - Mendy
    Mane - Salah - B.Silva - Richarlison
    Arnie - Zaha - Aguero

    Steke - Schlupp - Gunnar - Wan-Biss

I'm getting there I think! I would like to start Schlupp, think it is worth losing Shaw for Peltier (frees up 1m) and upgrading Keeper to say Lloris? Any other ideas/comments welcome. I keep thinking maybe swap Arnie or Zaha to King to free up another .5 but I can't bring myself to drop either.

Im as confident as I can be for a City midfielder. I think he will at least play the first 2-3 games. As for Shaw I’m not convinced either, tempted to start schlupp but not sure what to do instead of shaw. Maybe upgrade midfield bench fodder and go Peltier.
