Legomané’s RMT

Rui Patricio, Hart

Robertson, Davies, Tomkins, Cedric, Wan-Bissaka

Salah, Mahrez, Eriksen, Kenedy, McArthur

Aguero, Arnautovic, King

The 2017-18 season nostalgia picks:

A number of players made their way into my squad before the game opened, last season’s returns fresh in mind..

Andrew Robertson’s end of season form was painful to observe as a Virgil van Dijk owner. At 6.0 he is ready to take up the Marcos Alonso mantle of most desirable defensive option in my opinion.

Mo Salah. Not out of fear. For the joy of FPL points.

With Danny Rose progressing to the World Cup Semi-Finals, Ben Davies was always going to be my next defensive target. The defender served many of us well at the beginning of last season, with double-digit potential and rotation over the opening fixtures less of a concern, he’s a must for me. I am conscious that I held onto Davies too long last season – this year I have earmarked Ben Mendy as my exit strategy, as and when.

Similarly, for Sergio Aguero, an early World Cup exit promoted him to the top of my summer watchlist, the anticipation of Brazil reaching the latter stages and rendering Gabriel Jesus a late starter seemed too good to be true. Aguero was a player I brought in ‘early’ last season at the moment everybody else switched from Morata to Firmino, GW17. I held him all the way through to GW32 so am familiar with the rotational fear that accompanies waiting for a City team sheet. I don’t know if he will be a long term pick, or if I’ll shift to Aubameyang after a few weeks (one of my preferred choices before the fixtures were released), but he’s nailed into my GW1 squad for sure.

Marko Arnautovic is another player I earmarked for inclusion at the end of last season. He’s just a fun player to own.

Kenedy is the final player in this group. A player I was keen on bringing into my squad last season, but for numerous reasons, never got round to, and watched on enviously as he returned a brace two or three gameweeks later. My squad structure includes two 5.0m midfielders and despite poor opening fixtures, he’s a player I’m keen to rotate in and out of my starting XI.

The desirables:

With Manchester City’s outrageous fixture run GWs 2-7, doubling up on attack seems bordering on essential. Having opted for Sergio Aguero, I am keen to leave a third slot open for manoeuvre after one or two weeks, once the returning KDB and co. are back in the mix. Riyad Mahrez is the player I’ve chosen. He’s a player that I’ve felt inclined to ignore over the past two season’s since his well earned price hike following the title winning season. But his FPL returns for Leicester last season, 16pts more than Sane make him almost irresistible in the City lineup. De Bruyne may well end up being the long term hold (or a double up partner) but for now, Mahrez IN!

Christian Eriksen is my third premium midfielder and it is the disarray at Spurs that draws me to him. With Kane potentially making a late return to the first team post-WC, I’m expecting the goal-thirsty Denmark version of Eriksen to step up to the mark.

My final desirable is Josh King. Early drafts included Zaha in this spot, and there are one or two 6.5 forwards I wouldn’t completely rule out – Wood, Mitrovic. King’s end of season form was mildly reminiscent to that of the previous season. Early sound bites from King about being unhappy played out of position last season lead me to believe he is about to recapture something of that form.

The uncertainties:

James Tomkins was a Free-Hit player I owned for Blank-Gameweek-35 last season. A modest 6-point return betrayed his involvement on the day, Livescore kept me informed of his numerous efforts on goal – so close to being a Free Hit hero! However, with Aaron Wan-Biassaka providing the role of 4.0 budget pick, I do wonder if doubling on Palace defence is a little much…

Cedric Soares was another early pick, a player that has always flattered to deceive in FPL. I am concerned about Mark Hughes ability to muster defensive resolve in his back line, not to mention a tummy bug denting his preseason return, so this 4.5 slot is very much up for grabs.

James McArthur was a non-pick last season thanks to the kindly priced Luka Milivojevic. However his goal scoring heroics did not go unnoticed. The arrival of Kouyate (and potentially RLC) could be a concern with the midfield options available to Hodgson fairly numerous. Helder Costa, Ruben Neves and Tom Cairney are all side steps I’m considering.

The Goal keeper pair is something I’ve toyed with a little. Pre-price releases, Dubravka at 4.5 was pencilled in as a potential set and forget, but with the early fixture run, a 5.0 valuation and the arrival and modest pricing of Portugese legend Rui Patricio at Wolves, my head has been well and truly turned!

Tapping in to Sean Dyche’s backline is something that I’ve been conscious of tinkering with since the game opened. With the defensive options receiving a token 5.0m valuation across the board, I see Joe Hart (assuming he hasn’t been brought in as cover for Lindegard!) as a reasonable budget route into the Burnley backline for the short to medium term – a spell that includes a very enticing opening run of fixtures.

Conclusion

Thoughts? Suggestions? Where have I gone wrong, and where have I gone right? What do you suggest I change? Feel free to let me know in the comments!

I don't see Trent being nailed. Our Moura. Austin is too injury prone and Southampton can't score. I'd make some changes.

Sanchez is a placeholder for Hazard when he’s back... so it would be in a 4-4-2 as:

Lol. I was going to go for Mane, but I really think Keita will be a bonus point magnet this year. He’s looked fantastic in preseason and hungry to succeed. For 2m less than Mane I couldn’t say no.

Not a fan of Shaw, Luiz, Hoedt, Fraser or Austin in your starting XI.

Speroni is a bad pick.. high ownership means if people start shipping him out you will lose team value as his price will drop to 3.9/3.8m.

    Ryan

    Robertson Bailly Mendy

    Salah Mane Sessegnon Richarlison Bilva

    Aubameyang Jiminez King

I know there's a few pints there but I've got reasons.

    • King, Jiminez, Richarlison and Sessegnon rotate really well. Ok the opening ten Gameweeks, if one has a bad fixture, the other three cover him.

    • I don't see Sessegnon playing at left back. And we know how deadly he is from the wing. Fulham have improved a lot and made great attacking signings.

    • Jiminez could be great value if Wolves do as well as people think they will. Doesn't have much competition for his spot.

Is Jagielka nailed with the current squad? I would prefer Everton 4.5 (fixtures) over all the other 4.5 besides Tomkins who I already have. My defence would look like this: Mendy Robertson Tomkins Jagielka WB. Who else for 4.5 if not Jagielka?

Probably yes for first couple of weeks. Everton currently only have two fit CBs. Looks like Mina will sign today, so Jags will be out once he's match fit.

Indeed, but that means switching someone else out. I kind of go with Luke on FF Scout when it comes to Hudson-Odoi. He has been their best player pre-season and Pedro has been awful. I think he will start and if he does and plays as he has it will be very hard to bench him. And if he doesnt start its not like its the end, he is a bench player for me.

A: Luiz >> shaw and keep 0.5m itb which helps to move easier after the first gw and am tempted by shaw
B: Luiz + Peltier >> Shaw + Daniels so spread out the risk of having 2 x 4m defenders
    C: Luiz + Jota >> Shaw + Mkhi

    Final Draft. Thoughts?

    Foster - Hamer
Mendy - Robertson - Boly - Bednarek - Wan Bissaka
Salah - Mane - Bernardo - Richarlison - Hudson Odoi
    Aguero - Arnautovic - Zaha 1.0ITB

Mendy and Robertson provide City and Pool def cover aswell as great attacking points potential. Watford, Southampton and Palace had great defensive stats towards end of last season and have decent fixtures. Wolves also seem to be a very organised team. Mane was excellent end of last year and pre season and acts as a cash cow. Needed a mid in his price range for versatility. Richarlison was super under Silva last year and will be central to his fans. Everton didnt spend 40m for nothing! IMO Hazard will play as a False 9 like Mertens at Napoli meaning Hudson could start LW. Arnie and Zaha play in two attacking teams and are their teams focal points. 1m itb allows great versatility. e.g Mane > Hazard, Richarlison > Ramsey, Bernardo > Dilva, etc. Thx for suggestions!

Will never play 4.5 mid so might aswell punt on Hudson. Hamer doesnt play as Foster will play all the time. First 10 fixtures are good. At home to Spurs and Utd he should rack up save pts and could also bag a CS as both dont look like starting season well.

    Salah(C)-Mane-Richarlison-Jota (Stephens)
    Aguero-Zaha-King

Bench is weak but I'll only need them to cover in emergencies.
    Any comments and ideas appreciated.

Pretty much my team but prefer Bailly/Luiz rather than Double palace defence with PVA

Thanks. UTD defence is covered by DDG, as for Luiz I don't trust (yet) the new Chelsea defence.
Second Palace defender is a bench fodder anyways.

Lovely. The lack of a decent 4.5m mid is really frustrating. I'm on Kenedy at 5m at the moment but ideally I'd like to free up the 0.5m. Stephens just isn't doing it for me...

Cheers. Don't like Stephens at all, but needed a starter and can't squeeze another 0.5 to upgrade to Cairney/other 5.0 MID.

      Cool! Mine pretty similar.

      DDG (Stek)
      Mendy-Robbo-Tomkins (WB-Peltier)
      Salah(C)-Mané-Rich-Bsilva (Maitland-Niles)
      Aguero-Zaha-King

Maitland-Niles instead of Stephens due to injury of Monreal and Kolasinac, so he might be play as leftback.

I feel set and happy with my team, so I'm sure it's crap.

Anyone want to tear me apart? I'm on:

    Foster - Fabianski
    Mendy - Robertson - Cedric - Doherty - AWB
Salah - Mane - Richarlison - Bernardo Silva - Kenedy
    Aguero - Zaha - King

pretty textbook. given NEW's fixtures will you ever play kenedy? if not, maybe downgrade him and upgrade doherty?

It's pretty solid. Quite template but that's not a bad thing. Kennedy has poor fixtures but you'll probably bench him anyway.

I like it, but then we have 12 identical players. Differences are Fab, Doherty, Kenedy for Patricio, SCook, Neves
