With one round of the latest Fantasy Premier League season already in the history books, it’s time to start preparing for Gameweek 2.

Where better to start than with the all-important captain debate, which looks like it will be less clear-cut than it was in Gameweek 1.

Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) will obviously remain the favourite with his 54 percent ownership but his next fixture is arguably tougher than a home tie with a new-look West Ham side. In the final nine Gameweeks of 2018/19 the only outfit to keep more clean sheets than Crystal Palace was Liverpool themselves. Since James Tomkins (£4.5m) and Mamadou Sakho (£5.0m) were paired together again the Eagles have been a difficult prospect to break down.

For those not in possession of Salah, there are other alternatives amongst his team-mates including Sunday’s brace-scoring midfielder Sadio Mané (£9.5m), left-back Andrew Robertson (£6.0m) who assisted and kept a clean sheet, and striker Roberto Firmino (£9.5m).

Manchester City’s options certainly win out when it comes to fixture difficulty as they host Huddersfield Town on Sunday afternoon. However, the fact that every player has now returned to the group since the World Cup the dreaded issue of rotation could cause some problems.

Sergio Aguero (£11.0m) is the most backed ownership-wise, in 32 percent of squads, but could be benched to allow Gabriel Jesus (£10.5m) a first start of the season. Raheem Sterling (£11.0m) looks to be back in the conversation sooner than expected too, his seven-point haul in Gameweek 1 putting him on the captain radar, especially as his 2.5 percent ownership makes a potentially powerful differential option.

Just as Robertson may be considered for the captaincy, his Man City counter-part Benjamin Mendy (£6.0m) has forced his way into the conversation with 15 points scored against Arsenal from assisting both of his team’s goals.

Tottenham’s options have dragged themselves into the conversation after seeing off Newcastle on Saturday and preparing for a home match against newly-promoted Fulham. Harry Kane (£12.5m) may not have set the world on fire but with 31.1 percent ownership he should be considered by those in possession of him.

Elsewhere on the Spurs roster Gameweek 1 goalscorer Dele Alli (£9.0m) may be turned to as another differential option while Christian Eriksen (£9.5m) offers the more creative angle for the fixture.

Anyone brave enough to place their captain on a player from Chelsea v Arsenal have a few outside outside options. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) will be the obvious choice from the Gunners while Marcos Alonso‘s (£6.5m) performance against Huddersfield may have convinced some of his doubters. Don’t forget that Eden Hazard (£10.5m), backed by 11 percent, may alsio play a part in the fixture.

Make sure you watch our Captain video below and then vote in the poll underneath it. Why not tell us why you made your choice in the comments? We’ll be rounding off the debate later this week with another Captain Sensible article.

There's a large post about the scoutcast questions, with several community members putting intriguing questions. But I have a different question - where does the integrity of the scoutcast lie, and should we really take what's told in the scoutcast seriously?

Jonty talked about his team in a 22 minute video called "Daring to be Salah-Less", talking about his "maverick decision to exclude Salah". His actual captain this week was Mohamed Salah.

Mark, in a similar video, talked about his team. He made some crucial changes thereafter, including Sanchez.

Are the "scouts" using these scoutcasts and podcasts to mislead the public, eliminating competition?

Would be surprised if this post doesn't get deleted, but the people need to know they need to take what they're being fed with a dollopful of salt.

Did you pick VVD and Jota over Robertson and Neves?

I didn't pick a Liverpool defender. I never intended to.
I did pick Jota, but not over Neves, since I was never considering Neves, and I'm pretty happy with Jota.

        Not sure how it's relevant.

It is a debate. You can play Devil's advocate and then still do something different. You can also still think for yourself even if they do say go Salahless and get Salah.

I can think for myself mate, I went for Mane and Firmino over Salah before watching Joe's video and I'm very chuffed with that thus far. I'm just saying that the people tuning in weekly should tread with caution.

Thats proper conspiracy level 10! Surely these guys enjoy success and followers by giving good info, pretty sure they know if they started giving out bad advice on purpose it would all end quick sharp! We all change our minds, its a complex game..... people take it too seriously perhaps but thats wayyyyy beyond!

At the end of the day, the Scoutcast lads are human after all.

Like us. And everyone has their own minds. Can't be blaming them when things don't go your way.

I use the Scoutcast for loose advice, and then i put my own spin on things. I wouldn't be tempted to go without Salah just because Jonty made a pros and cons video tbh.

Depending on your knowledge of the history of the Scoutcast, end of day it's just 4/5 mates (albeit with good esteem within a niche community) chatting fantasy football.... Like you, me or anyone that watches, they're wanting to win their respected mini leagues/overall rank and whatever info they give out is just their own personal opinion, not specifically advising us

Salah less was Luke wasn't it?

Anyway you should always take these videos with a pinch of salt. Don't think these 'scouts' are deliberately trying to mislead people but it's about predicting the future and they don't necessarily have the ability to predict the future any better than the regular poster on here. They're just weighing up pros and cons of different approaches and at the end of the day it's your decision what direction you want your team to go in.

Just avoid people like Jay Eggdork who are conning people for money and you'll be fine.

        What a strange post.

        Ok, to answer these.

The 22 video is me interviewing Salah less Luke (disable) who indeed went Salahless. I'm the guy interviewing the Salah less guy in that. Did you actually watch that video?

In the description of Mark's video we make note that others he is considering include Sanchez. He made that decision in the few hours after the recording.

Third point - ok, actually think you may be trolling us now. 😉

Should you take what's told in the Scoutcast seriously?

        - No, you don't have to. You either agree with what they say or you don't. They are not FPL experts of any sort that you should listen to, just players like the rest of us but with some credibility of good ranks. Even in their last video, I exposed one of their points about Mane potentially being a better captaincy choice than Salah after one game as nonsense. There are even some posters here that offer better advice than them, but that's okay. See it as a group of people that are providing a nice Q&A for us and just watch it like a discussion.

Are the "scouts" using these scoutcasts and podcasts to mislead the public, eliminating competition?

        - LOL. No. Of course not.

The whole point of the FFS boys is to give honest and expert opinions and it relies on their integrity. Otherwise, people would switch off pretty soon.

I just see honest guys giving great insights and discussing their different approaches. It is up to you to decide what you will do and no one should blame anyone but themselves if they don't get the score they expect.

What a sad mind-set you have. Those lads spend a lot of time and effort on running this site for our time and pleasure and in doing so probably forgo any chance of getting ahead of the rest. Can I suggest that with such a warped non-trustworthy attitude that you spend less time warning others and more time dealing with this warning about you. Otherwise you and those around you are gonna have a pretty sad life.

Wan-Bissaka: "I enjoy attacking and defending. I used to be a winger so it's still in my game a bit and it's always good to get an assist."

On another day, Firmino (who was standing right in front of Mane) would have recieved the pass instead of Mane for Liverpools second goal, and Mane's offside goal would have been disallowed.
Mane 3 points, Firmino 9 points... Oh well..

If its down to CS chance then no. Bournemouth probably do have less a chance of CS but probly fine margins between those teams, keeping a FT maybe more value with so much uncertainty about teams/players.

My best Rank was 6,089 in the season 2008/09. Haven't played consistent until last year, and ended up wit Rank 40,023 last season. But honestly I haven't got an ocean about soccer, hardly get the chance to watch a CL game, because been married, and having a real life.

The point is, I hardly believe anybody is an expert in here, except a couple of lads, which actually do play on the pitch themselves!

Sadly true. Writing articles is one thing, you dont need a good rank for that. But ScoutCast participation and being part of "Ask the Experts/Veterans" panel should involve at least one top 10k rank.

Yea so hes a journo then. Journos are notorious for not having expert knowledge of what they are talking about but excelling at other things like networking, getting clicks and hype, sounding like they are experts because they have a good way with words etc. Fair enough if thats what FFS wanted.

Not really relevant to the point he's trying to make. He's fine with Munday being a writer and editor of this site but appearing as 'ask the expert' and featuring as one of the scouts on the official site is baffling when you look at his history.

                    Please explain the relevancy then.

Munday as a writer and editor of the site = totally fine. He's a journalist, good with words, has written a lot of good articles over the summer. Skilled and knowledgable in social media. A good choice by Mark.

Munday as an expert and scout on the official FPL site, going under names such as 'ask the expert' = worthy of raising a few eyebrows when you look at his history. He isn't an expert. It's a different issue altogether when you're dishing out advice (as an expert does) than being a writer and editor whose main job is to write mixed and balanced content.

People seem to be really sensitive to the word expert; let's substitute 'knowledgeable contributor' instead. Does it make a difference? Does what he's doing change?

David spends all day researching team news, looking at FPL projections, and writing articles about players we should be watching out for, and explaining why we should sign them. Yes, we make the final decision, but he spends huge amounts of time guiding the community.

Going onto podcasts or shows to discuss this information isn't actually a change from writing about it - it's just shared in a different format. Mark has put David forward for this because he feels David's knowledge, right now, is as good as other options; and just like anyone else we don't need to take his advice. That the Scout Picks and his team are doing well so far shows he knows what he's doing.

I hope everyone can look past the label of expert, put aside their own definitions, and look at the quality of content and advice he gives. That can be talked about, and his views are what we should talk about since they ultimate define his credentials.

Let's instead discuss the picks he makes that you disagree with, that you think are picks an expert wouldn't make

Enthusiast is a better word, if you allow yourself to be tagged an expert, you should really have a record to back it up.

Writing articles about players to watch, about team news, about who is likely to play or not is important information, and sharing that information on the Scoutcast or as part of panels is useful. He's more of an expert on the things he's spending his days writing about then many others!

Although some people associate rank with being an expert, if we're talking about knowledge than David has to be considered an expert.

The whole 'what defines an expert' discussion is a little silly in my opinion and we should be talking about quality of knowledge and quality of advice instead

They rarely give advice. They offer opinions and topics for discussion. “Our” job is to process this- and other sources of information to make our own decisions. It’s not the scoutcasters fault that you- and/or me made the wrong decision.

Completely agree. I paid to this site to get advice from someone who is better than me at FPL, not someone who hasn't even been in top 100k.
It shines through, both in the articles and in the videos/etc.
Overall the site has declined since Marks departure.

Don’t have to have a great history of OR:s to be able to contribute to the topics/discussions. David’s main contribution to this community imo is providing stats & information, in a solid format, with years of experience from being a journalist and writer as his main merit.

He writes many of the articles, participates in the scoutcast, is used as an expert etc etc.
Having a history with great OR's shows that you know how the game works, something which, among other things, is a reflection of your overall knowledge of both the game and the league. Lacking a great history is a sign that you don't know how the game works on a FPL top level and thus your advice will show this, nomatter how good you are with stats/journalism/etc.

He's being branded as an FPL expert (example https://www.premierleague.com/news/801385 ) - he is clearly not an FPL expert looking at this history, and others are following his advice on the assumption he is an expert. He may well be giving good advice, but he shouldn't be branded as an expert - it's misleading.

This post is surely a gag? He presents tonnes of relevant stats and player information that helps all of us make our teams. Assuming your low rank is equal to your short-sightedness, you probably have him to thank for such a good first game-week. There are plenty of examples of great coaches who couldn't play the game, so why does he have to be in the top 10k to be an expert in what is essentially a game built around stats and luck?

Nothing against the guy's journalistic chops, I'm sure he's good at that. It's the label expert that has me thrown off, unless "expert" refers to the position rather than the person in it specifically, and all the bells and whistles that come with it (stats insight etc). If "expert" refers to a mere relaying of unrivalled insights based on data, I guess it can fly, but someone needs to clarify it I should think. Otherwise, if it's his opinion and I've done considerably better in the last two seasons than him, I'm not going to listen to him.

You can be a knowledgeable expert rather than a skilful one. Just because he hasn't executed doesn't mean he shouldn't be listened too. The "mere relaying of unrivalled insights" you refer to is something that you've taken into consideration when making your team and it's more work than you'd put in on your own. The fact that you've obviously used his information and then done well is a pretty good indication that his opinion is on an expert level.

How important is a nailed player compared to rotation risk?

I'm obviously thinking about the City midfield but could be equally true for Liverpool or other teams once champions league starts. KDB is probably most nailed player in terms of minutes, and a lot last season most of his scores were semi regular high single digits. Not to be sniffed at as he did score 209 points and if you're not on the pitch you can't score points.

BUT saving the £1m for Mahrez (or £3m for B Silva) who may get less minutes but still probably score 170+ allows some serious upgrades for £4.5m defender -> Davies / Bellerin / Alonso or an upgrade of King -> Lacazette or 5m midfielder -> 6.5m etc

I've always assumed that nailed player is the best and KDB is waiting to come into my side; but trying to take a step back and think this week before pulling the trigger.

Just pick the player you believe who will score the most points over the season. Regardless of being nailed, if they're in form, they're likely to be selected again.

I think nailed wins, but a rotator can also work. The difficulty is having the patience to hold them.
