This week the ScoutCast crew are determined to bust the myth that they share identical strategies.

Long-term maverick Luke returns to reveal his freshly Wildcarded team which bravely went into Gameweek 2 without Manchester City’s hat-trick hero Sergio Aguero and last season’s points-scoring sensation Mohamed Salah.

In stark contrast, Az is continuing his march up the rankings thanks to his faith in this premium pair, and his resolve in resisting broadsheet tittle-tattle hinting that the Argentinian would be dropped.

David is also beating a different drum and keen to explain the reasons behind his chequered FPL history and how his fortunes already look better this time around.

That leaves me as the only dullard representative, armed with a bunch of ownership statistics, a goals imminent table and a dubious ‘camping’ excuse to explain my recent poor captaincy decision.

Our differing views across a range of key issues facing Fantasy Premier League manages ahead of Gameweek 3 are aired.

Our assessment of Chelsea and Arsenal assets ahead of their favourable fixtures is top of our list. And we also ponder whether Spurs’ players can compete as assets this season and indulge in some bargain hunting up front.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday evening. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

Fabri the next Fabianksi? Already made 15 saves from 2 games. Sitting on 8 points, despite conceding 5.

Trying to convince myself to go Fabri & PVA over Ederson & Tomkins...

It's a very good side, but I'd personally expect Ederson and Mane/Erik to outscore Hart/Hamer (both drop/rotation risks) and Aub. Would leave money over too

Think you could well be right there long term but in the interim I feel like it’s matter of time before Auba bags a big haul he’s had a lot of chances last few games and it’s the perfect run coming up for him got to go with gut haven’t you

Yeah looks good only problem is the keepers , they could both be dropped for Heaton and Lossl at any point , so would prob get a safer 4.5 in there , maybe Henessey.

Correct me if I’m wrong anyone, but if WCs are active, isn’t that 100.5 figure likely to be distorted and he’s therefore less likely to rise?

FPL stats also had him going up last night and he's had several thousand NTI in the last 24 hours. I'd guess he's rising tonight

my guess is they cracked the algo but everyday more people wildcard which is adjusting the thresholds slightly
even the guys who were likely to fall every day now (auba, bellerin) keep staying alive, so I reckon they are estimating the wildcarders and adjusting accordinly

I am on -8, but I think I finally have good team. Bought Alonso, Miki and Richarlison. Only Mane missing. Thoughts?

    Hamer (Foster)

    Aguero Tosun (Jimenez)

You've got a benching issue (Not sure why you have Jiminez as well as Fraser), a gk problem, Mahrez is really iffy and personally I think that Siggy and even Theo might outscore Tosun, although he is a decent pick with good fixtures. My worry would be that youve taken a -8 with some problems remaining, but it's a solid squad no doubt. Alonso and Mendy is great and the lack of Liverpool options will be less of a problem, and perhaps even a temporary benefit, after this week.

Sold Eriksen, Bailly and Ralls now so that's why my team looks a little unbalanced a little bit.

With 0.4 itb, not a big space for some extraordinary moves. Will probably get Zaha for Tosun after Hudds game.

    3. Skalla
      • 9 Years

Yeah Mahrez will drop tonight but on a -8 I would keep him and hope for a big haul , has to start one of these good fixtures soon with Kdb still out!

Mhky is simply a better pick over the next few weeks than Bilva. And at .5 cheaper, getting him means you can save the funds to make an important trade you perhaps wouldn't have been able to make otherwise, next week.

It's worth the -4. This is the week to do it for a hit, I'll be amazed if he doesn't outscore Bilva with West Ham at home who, to be fair, are dreadful. They have no pace down the spine of the team and play an outrageously high line. Arsenal, at this stage of the season, is a really bad match up for them.

Arsenal are set up for cut backs. All the goals they are scoring under Emery, if we include pre-season, seem to be through overloads down the wing and squaring the ball. When the ball is down the opposite flank, the player on the other side supports the attack to get on the end of the chances. This means Mkhitaryan will either be the one cutting the ball back for the assist, or finishing off the move. So, he is central to what they do. The manager is clearly confident with him, Mkhy is accustomed to the style after his days at Dortmund (with Aubameyang), that system being comparable to Emery's, and it hasn't escaped noticed that while other experienced players are getting dropped (Ramsey), hooked at HT (Xhaka) and substituted/called out by the manager to the press (Ozil), Mkhitaryan has played the full 90 in both games.

In short, Mkhitaryan is arguably the best value midfielder on the game at 7million

I like Mkhitaryan but it's worth mentioning that B Silva plays for a more talented side who will outscore Arsenal by a good 25 goals this season. Let's not pretend that Mkhitaryan isn't a rotation risk either. It's highly likely that Aub will start on the left with Lacazette up top during the easier run of games. That leaves two attacking midfield positions. Ozil will not drop out as he is still the main playmaker - Ramsey will threaten the starting 11 whilst Iwobi played well last match. I expect Mkhitaryan to start the next one but he is not nailed long term and will be rotated.

      1. ScratchingTheMud
        • 15 Years
        7 years, 4 months ago

All good points. But Bilva will arguably be at least as prone to rotation as Mkhy. And I'm willing to bet that, though City will definitely outscore Arsenal, Mkhy will definitely contribute a higher proportion of Arsenal's attacking returns than Bilva at City.

I think Bilva is a good option, don't get me wrong, but the .5 banked and the fact Pep does mess around with that midfield, with Dilva likely to be playing further up than Bilva, and KDB's injury arguably meaning Bilva will have to lay deeper, all doesn't go in his favour

Yeah true - both are rotation risks but both look like good term options atm. My concern is that Mkhitaryan is inconsistent. We are bringing him in in mass, and we could well be rewarded with a purple patch and Arsenal coverage at a good 1.0/1.5 below value. But I could also see a situation where Mkhitaryan is the B Silva of next week (I.e being sold on mass - not a situation I agree with necessarily).

That bracket is intense. Pedro, Siggy, or Theo goals this week will all make them hard to ignore ahead of GW4. There are alot of good options at 6.5-7.5 and then barely anything until 9.5. It's a weird lay-out.

Agreed, it's a strange how it's working out so far. A number of midfield options who appear underpriced who have form and fixtures.

From my point of view, I don't think I'm jumping on the bandwagon. I rarely make hits. I'm just willing to stick my neck on the line to say that I think Mkhitaryan is the stand out option. It doesn't mean he will be but that's the game. If I could play 6 in midfield I would. And Bilva would be number 6

        4-2-3-1

---------------Leno (more suited to Emerys style but not doing it in training aparently)
        Bellerin Sokratis Mustafi Monreal
        --------Torreira Ramsey
        Mkhi -------Ozil --------Auba
        -------------Laca

The best system for arsenals players (although i doubt it will be tried just yet)
        3-4-1-2

        ----------------Leno
        Sokratis Mustafi Holding
        Bellerin Torreira Ramsey Monreal
        ----------------- Ozil
        -------------Laca Auba

The problem Arsenal have is they have no natural wide players or ball carriers (save for Iwobi) and both the defence and midfield are more comfortable as part of a 3. Add to that Auba is better when Laca on the field as he harasses defenders physically and pulls them out of position so that Laca can occupy the memorial Henry corrider of space between the LB and CB

Sorry mate, that sucks. I was so close to not having Mané at the start of the season and consider myself very fortunate getting his points, especially considering he's scoring offside goals and in the lasts minute. It could have been very different

Will Mikhi outscore Fraser by a big margin? Woudd have to reshuffle my WC quite a lot. e.g. Robbo to TAA, Kante to 4,5..

      PS: Got Auba.

I like Fraser. At 5.5 think he'll prove value and he's clearly come on leaps and bounds this season, irrespective of fpl returns. He's playing with a zeal and confidence we've not seen from him. I also like what he said to the media, that he's aiming for 10+goals this season. I think he's the stand out Bournemouth pick.

Mkytaryan has the potential to smash his price out the park, could be very explosive. Is there not room for both?

Basically I think you'd be looking at 3-4 points per game from Fraser and 4-5ish points per game from Mkhy. Whether that's worth 1.5m extra is up for debate.

Would you sell Shaw for a -4? WB and Bednarek are my 2 benched defenders so in a bit of a pickle.

What defender would you recommend for 5mil or under?

Didnt see news of him driving to training, thanks for info. Injury isnt too serious anyway, maybe presser might give more info.

Still worried about Valencia coming back and Spurs being a tough fixture though.

There is a reason you're paying 6m for DDG, play him every single week. If you aren't going to do that then you are better off downgrading.

      WC team:

      Henn
      Robby Mendy Alonso
      Salah (C) Mane Rich Mkhi
      Mitro Aguero Ings

      Bench: Hamer Fraser AWB Bennet

Any thoughts on this? Trying to make minimal changes in the next few week except maybe Salah > Hazard

I have a team that is pretty close to the current WC template and it's kind of annoying me that so many will have the same team as me. My plan was to go heavy at the back all season but now everyone has Mendy, Robertson, Alonso. With so many people using this strategy it's like I'll have to be lucky by picking differentials to do well against them. In some ways, it might have been better if some of my players didn't do as well in the first few GW's.
