The Captain Poll is now open for votes ahead of Gameweek 4 and you can watch our video on the best candidates for the armband below or on our YouTube channel.

The early favourite is Sergio Aguero (£11.2m) who faces an appealing home match-up against Newcastle, a side he is very fond of.

The Manchester City striker has scored 11 goals in his last five home meetings with the Magpies and has already netted a hat-trick in front of his own supporters this season.

With the champions set for the most attractive fixture of the week, options such as Benjamin Mendy (£6.3m) will get consideration as well as David Silva (£8.5m) and Raheem Sterling (£11.0m) if he can hold on to his place.

Also with an appealing match-up is Chelsea, who host the porous Bournemouth defence in Gameweek 4. The Cherries have only allowed two big chances so far in 2018/19, although that does include facing a goal shy Cardiff and they have still conceded three goals in as many matches.

Eden Hazard (£10.6m) is obviously the standout candidate with two assists and goal from just one start and two subsitute appearances in the first three Gameweeks of the season.

However, Pedro (£6.6m) is also an option for those unable to shoehorn the Belgian international into their sides.

As ever, Marcos Alonso (£6.7m) will form part of the conversation now that he has registered a minimum of 11 points in every match so far and has had more shots on goal than any other defender.

Of course Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) has to still be in the conversation as he’s joint-top for shots amongst all players and has created more chances than anyone else.

As DGW37 proved last year, Kane, Salah, Kun etc may have 2 fixtures in a end of season DGW but there is no guarantee they will start both games either esp if teams are playing in Europe or still in FA cup

        Aguero's record vs Newcastle.
        12 Games, 14 Goals and 3 Assists including 5 goals in a 6-1 trashing in Oct 2015

So based on that, on avg you would expect him to get about 8 points - TC would net 24 on avg. Decent for sure, but not enough for me to consider it.

No. Newcastle will park the bus and are a different proposition to Huddersfield.

    Would you wildcard this?

    Hart / 4.0

    Mendy / Holebas / Boly / Daniels / Wan B

    Salah / Mane / B.Silva / Mkhi / Gunnarson

    Kun / Zaha / Arnie

Obviously concern is Hart and the defence. Also some questions over Arnie and B.Silvs as well as not owning Alonso, Robertson, Hazard etc.

Not in the worst position but doesn't seem much point in holding onto the first WC?

    Thanks.

You could end up without any playing goalkeeper in gameweek 4. Otherwise, I don't think you have enough problems to wildcard.

Have 1 FT still which I guess I will have to burn on Hart. Might come down to whether Arnie is fit.

      WHY?

You whole frontline is playing and scoring.

Mendy holebas are 3rd and 4th in total scores for DEF

Silva and Myki strong cheaper alternatives -

1 Sub if your unsure do Mykhi to Walcott or Lucas Moura

      Aguero (c) and Log out

      1. chilli con kone
        • 13 Years
        8 years, 6 days ago

You're right and most likely I will just leave it. Hart will have to go on my FT and if Arnie is injured I don't really have a good option coming off the bench.

Guess I have never really valued the first WC and don't want to fall behind on points and price changes when alot of others are

After letting myself (intentionally) get priced out of Rich to Wally, I dreamt that the latter scored a hattrick in the first half vs HUD. The third goal was a beautiful under-the-wall free kick into the bottom right corner. Think it was with his left foot though.

3 weeks in and all my budget and mid priced picks from GW1 have been near on perfect (Walcott, Pedro, Alexander Arnold, Shaw, Holebas) while the premium options I chose completely let me down (Auba, Firmino, Sanchez)!

Sanchez + Firmino both gone, hoping Auba starts to return!

To wildcard or not to wildcard?

    Rui / Steklenberg

TAA / Vestergaard / Tomkins / Hadergjonaj / Wan Bissaka

    Salah / Bernardo / Moura / Walcott / Maddison

    Aguero / Aubameyang / Ings

Currently sat unbelievably at 3.1m so need some big scores fast!

Difficult, that defense is a bit dodgy but the rest is fine. I would say wait until next week and do it in the Itnl Break. Think you do need at least one premium defender, probably two.

I would based on the defensive imbalance. It's not a shocker of a team though. All 3 forwards could pull big scores and you have form players in midfield

I went for Walcott as I didn't have any extra money (Richarlison replacement) but Mhki looks the best option to me.

So i really wanted to have 2FTs for the international break...

    Hart
    Alonso, Mendy, Robbo, AWB
    Salah, Mane, Mhki
    Aguero, Arnie, Wilson

    Hamer, Peltier, Hudson-Odoi, Richarlison

    1FT, 0.05 ITB

    A) Save transfer and keep Rich (then start Wilson or AWB?)
    B) Rich -> Walcott/Pedro/Other
    C) B & Hart -> Hennessy (-4)

I'm not sure if it's worth using 2 transfers to get out and then back in again. Neither keeper is nailed. Any help appreciated

we will definitely park the bus against city - but I've a feeling after watching the huddersfield match that pep has been working out a system to counteract this - bilva/walker/mendy being given the rein to be far more creative and attacking without having to rely on much defensive duty.

I don't think we'll get hammered, but think we'll do worse against city than Leicester do against Liverpool.

kun for me at the moment

    Mendy • Robertson • Bissaka • Bennett
    Salah • Hazard • Mane • Moura
    Kun • Arnie
    (Hamer / Kabasele / Stephens / Kamara)

Was trying to fit in a midfield of Haz/Salah/Mane and came up with Bilva, Richarlison, Zaha and Peltier to Hazard, Moura, Kamara and Bennett and 4-4-2. Will take a -8 hit however. Mendy and Robertson always play and then a three way rotation for 2 spots. Thoughts?

Aguero - Arnie - King is a troublesome old front-line this week. Done my FT already as well so would be a hit for any more moves.

Zaha so tempting as a -4 transfer for either of those non-Kun lads though.

not sure about azpi? chelsea defence a bit suspect and not getting alonso attacking returns. Bilva getting played oop alot now reducing his potential. Also have you checked on Tomkins injury? not bad but i think could do with a few alterations. If your worried about spurs could put lucas in for bilva. kane or alli would probably require more hits

Trip is tempting but frustrating having a 6.0 DF who isn't nailed, especially when you know he can score/assist when he plays. Impossible to predict that fullback roulette.

Mane to Alli the easiest route but then you're without Liverpool attacker which isn't ideal.

Kane would necessitate a wildcard i think.

Do you look at ownership to make your team ?

I mean, currently, Hazard has 14.1% ownership, and that's the main reason I don't want him near my team. I feel like £10.0+ players need to be at least at 20-25% ownership to be considered. Otherwise, they're too expensive differentials and much more of a risk than anything else.

    1. Podge
      • 15 Years

How does ownership affect his score?

I don't look it that way. I just feel like an expensive player with low ownership is not a risk not to own. While an expensive player at 25%+ ownership could kill your rank every week if he goes big. That's why I think it's too risky to invest a lot of money in someone like Hazard right now, since it affects your entire budget. Alonso for example is much more essential, since he sits on 30%+ ownership. And yet Hazard could easily outscore him this week and the following weeks. But I just feel going for big hitter differentials is not the way to go.

Equally if the low owned players do well they shoot you past the masses.

I know, and that's why I like budget differentials. I just think it's too much of a risk when it comes to heavy hitters.

Ben: “Ignore ownership. Ignore overall ownership. Ignore ownership in your forum/social media bubble. Whatever deficit you could be facing after three Gameweeks is easily recoverable over the remaining 35. Get the players you think will score the most points. Other managers will make mistakes. The ‘template’ will change over time. Play like you’re in front.

“When considering the rank impact of a ‘differential’ relative to a ‘template player’ with slightly higher expected points, think of a bell curve with an average just to the left of zero. Don’t let your eyes be lit up by the shiny area under the curve to the right of zero, which represents a lower-than-50% chance of a ranking boost, without sober recognition of the larger area to the left of zero, which represents a greater-than-50% chance of a ranking tumble. This also makes for great chat at dinner parties.

“Differentials can be fun, but, if you’re interested in results alone, I don’t think there’s much of a case for getting them until after Gameweek 30. Make your peace with having highly-owned heavy hitters, because if you don’t have the leader of the captain poll in most weeks, you’re in for a train wreck of a season.”

        • 10 Years

I'm not really praising the template, I'm just speaking of the 2-3 players (out of 15) at £10+ more in your team, that's different.

I'm a bit stuck at the moment, so any advice would be very appreciated.

I'm thinking of getting rid of Tomkins and Rich due to their imminent price drops, but need to get rid of Peltier as well. I'm giving Lacazette another chance as I'm convinced he'll be brought in to front up a front three with Auba soon. Thoughts?

    Patrício - Foster
    Mendy - Robertson - Tomkins - Wan-Bissaka - Peltier
Salah - David Silva - Richarlison - Maddison - Cairney
    Kun - Lacazette - King

Why would you sell Tomkins? He has great fixtures.
Peltier is a problem for when you have no other transfers.
Just change Richarlison to whoever you think is the best replacement.

More because he's about to drop in value and may miss the next game (judging by how Roy described his injury). True though, I'm reluctant to sell but I figure he may miss one match.
