Fantasy Football Scout are pleased to announce the very first episode of Meet the Manager, where we interview Fantasy managers with a superb track record over their career.

Over the season we’ll find out from them what it takes to get a top finish in the game, explore their key strategies for success and also gain some valuable tips on tackling the current campaign.

To kick off the series I was joined earlier today by Nick, who is better known within the Fantasy Football Scout community as Triggerlips.

Over his 11-year career, he has finished in the top 1,000 an impressive four times, including 2012/13’s finish of 35th. Indeed across his last nine campaigns, he has only finished outside the top 50,000 twice.

Paying close attention to team structure and balanced distribution of funds is among the nuggets of advice that New Zealand-based Nick serves up.

He also reveals the importance of accumulating wealth early on and making sure the vast array of Fantasy advice on social media is treated with caution.

And while he is taking a patient approach with Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this season he is “not liking the look of (Mohamed) Salah one little bit”.

The chat with Nick is available to view on YouTube here and in the embedded video below:

I'm not WCing, but if I were, i think something lighter at the back is genuinely appealing. E.g

    Patricio
    Alonso Yedlin AWB
    Hazard Dilva Pogba Ramsey
    Aguero Lacazette Giroud

    4.0 | Doherty, Jonny, Hojbjerg

    0.8 ITB

      Richarlison over Ramsey. Why Pogba?

Would downgrade Giroud to Mitro and double Arsenal isn’t worth it. But have been looking at teams and it does look tempting this week.

      Not a fan of this.

Ramsey isn't playing well, Pogba turns up when he wants. Triple wolves defence seems a mistake, Yedlin wtf? Giroud not exactly clinical and not convinced by Laca.

If you're going rogue, get Ozil and Son, Upgrade a defender to TAA, get Vardy in and you need a Bournemouth player, look at their fixtures.

It's double wolves defence and a wolves keeper 😉

Yedlin is a decent pick! And helps cover wolves fixtures.

I expect Pogba and Ramsey to do better than last year. Pogba scored two tonight and is on pens it seems. Ramsey also paying further forward and Arsenal are likely to improve on current form imo.

Anyway, it's just a concept, but nobody was interested haha. I own TAA already and wouldn't touch Son or Ozil for at least one more week.

Yedlin is a very good pick given NUFC's fixtures. It's a decent WC team as a concept DEULOFAIL.

Max Meyer is my 5th mid in draft league.

Should I keep hold of him for future promise or just get rid, couple of players available are:

    Wijnaldum
    Hojbjerg
    Moutinho
    Hughes
    Yarmolenko

    Anyone stand out?

Is nobody concerned that only 4 of Kun’s 37 points have come away? He’s blanked in both away games. Not sure he’s good captain material away from home.

"concern" is a strong word 😉 Had my C on Hazard until tonights CL tie, now it's back on Aguero. No idea how it'll turn out in the end but I do know that Cardiff are dreadful and City/pep will want to strike back after tonights loss.

But then again so are West Ham and Hazard is being rested.. so, tough choice. but Kun is definitely very much in the mix for me

    Hey everyone.
Really stuck on what to do, so would appreciate any help!

    A) Mkhi -> Rich and save FT
    B) Mkhi, B.Silva, Arnie -> Hazard, Fraser, Jiminez for a -4

    Team is
    Hennesey, Patricio
    Alonso, Mendy, Robbo, Doherty, AWB
    Salah, Bilva, Mkhi, Walcott, CHO
    Aguero, Zaha, Arnie
    2 FT, 0.6ITB

I’m a bit worried about losing Arnie. Also if going with B, I would have to play one of Doherty/Jiminez against United.

What’s the general consensus on Mendy lads?

Get rid now or wait and see? Lot of money to have tied up if he’s out for 2+ games and Pep’s lack of clarity on it worries me. Seems like it could be one of those injuries that goes on and on.

Agree. I'm on WC and are seriously thinking of getting rid for now (despite losing 0.3 in value). The lack of clarity make me think that it could be weeks and not days.

      1. In Bale We Trust

If I was on WC I would absolutely lose him. Wait for more info in case there is any, but plan for not having him. That extra money could go a long way and loads of cheap def options coming alive in recent weeks

    5. PrettyDick

      7 years, 11 months ago

I'm holding even if Pep says he won't play.
Have more important issues and it would mean that AWB plays at home to Newcastle which is more than fine 🙂

After that I'm most likely only transferring him out if it is confirmed that he'll be out for a longer period of time. Tonight's game (once again) showed how important he is to this city team and I wouldn't want to not have him when he does play.

I'll risk a few Mendy-free games to gain the rest

The option that doesn't have Pogba in it will almost always be the best option. You're basically getting him for penalties, otherwise you might as well just play Neves and I don't think Pogba's worth the extra 3 mil.

For those saying Aguero has an easier fixture than Hazard, do a comparison of Cardiff and West Ham's defensive stats. West Ham are pretty awful themselves and City are more likely to share the points around than Chelsea imo. Add in the fact that Hazard gets an extra point for goal, can potentially get a CS point, tends to dominate the bonus if he returns, and has had a week off. Leaning Haz over Kun atm but it could go either way.

    1. Duka
      • 9 Years

Wast Ham are turning things around, and they are much better team than Cardiff, who are going down.

Of course they're much better than Cardiff but that's because they have much better attacking players. Defensively they're all over the place and that was still the case in their win against Everton.

        1. Duka
          • 9 Years
          7 years, 11 months ago

They also have much better defensive players who will glue in time. Wouldn't bet agains Hammers at this point, they are getting momentum. It's not an easy fixture for Hazard.

I don't really see it. The new signings Fredericks, Diop and Balbuena haven't adapted to the Premier League yet, Zabaleta is ancient and Ogbonna is terrible. They may have be better individually but as a defensive unit they've been atrocious. Pellegrini has never been known for prioritising the defensive side of the game.

West Ham's fixtures have been more difficult than Cardiff's so the defensive stats are skewed

Agree with you, West Ham's team is incredibly unbalanced and their defense is awful. They also have a large field, which will suit Hazard well.

I had the captaincy on Hazard until I saw City's game tonight, and for the moment it's on Kun.

      My reasons:
      1. Pep was upset after they "only" won with 3-0 against Fulham and made them have an extra day of training, in order to keep their concentration level high and not slacking off. He wants them to be more efficient.
      2. After tonight's loss they'll surely want to hit back in a big way
      3. Aguero came on and looked immensely better than Jesus (as always) and seems fit
      4. they don't have any games any time soon that he needs to be rested for
      5. Hazard doesn't shoot nearly as much as Kun does, and while it's always a possibility any of these players score a brace or hat trick it's more likely that Kun does so than Hazard.
      6. They're both on penalties, and Kun isn't a stranger to bps either (even though not as certain as Hazard)
      7. It's a derby, anything can happen (well.. not really, but you know.. potentially)

With all that said, it could very back to back to Hazard before the deadline 🙂

        Case well made for Aguero.

Chelsea's lineup tomorrow is still a factor for me even though Hazard isn't playing. If enough of the starters play I could be put off.

What do you think is the best route to get Hazard in?

    Ederson
    Robertson Alonso Mendy PvA
    Salah Mane Richarlison Pedro
    Aguero Mitro

    Stek AWB Stephens Quaner

    1FT 0ITB

    A) Salah > Haz
    B) Pedro & Mane > Fraser & Haz
    C) Aguero & Pedro > Zaha & Haz
    D) PvA & Mane > Doherty & Haz
    E) Save this week and re-assess next week with 2FT's

Yeah we’ll see. Feels a bit dirty and a lot like points chasing tbh. But trying to preserve my best start ever.
Prefer Rich for now, but it’s basically a coin flip. Rich’s brace for Brazil swings it for me - he looks hungry.
What’s your move(s) for the week?

Well done mate, a good start is always great!
Not a great start for me this season, but have Haz and Fraser.
Mki need to go this week, gonna be Rich/Maddison.Pedro to the one i dont get this week so Maddison vs Hudds makes sense.

Yeah it’s just about keep trucking on.
I would definitely get why Maddi would be the priority this week, but I just have this feeling about Rich against Arsenal.
Both good options for the price it seems.
                Good luck either way 🙂

They are bound to be rested at some point. They have been playing big chunks of each game including midweek and if i was the manager this week would be my choice to rest them. Surely not in the coming hard games.

Would go maddison if you don't have him. Fraser is ok, but I don't think he will deliver long term. Also, losing Robbo in 2 weeks for someone like trippier is an option im considering.

You're probably the only one in the world with no Liverpool, however it enables you to get a lot of other great players and if there's a time to do it it's now (well, around this time at least)

    Tomkins Robertson Mendy Wan-Bissaka
    Hazard B.Silva Mane
    Aguero Zaha King

    Patricio Azpilicueta Hughes Mkhitaryan

    2FT 0ITB

A- Mkhitaryan -> Fraser (Play Fraser and bench Mendy if not fit)

    B- Mkhitaryan + B.Silva -> Maddison and Fraser

C- Mkhitaryan + Mendy -> Fraser + Trippier (only if Mendy is out for more than a week)

Hats off to the interview of Triggerlips, have fond memories of his posts here and sharing a few conversations across the Pond back in 2010/11 and onwards. I remember Triggerlips sharing a tip or two with me my first season. He and a few others are responsible for my good first year. Everyone was so friendly on this site. I accomplished my goal of learning about the various players, teams and locations.

That was a splendid interview, Joe. Thanks.

Hey lads, would appreciate an alternative opinion.
Already did Mkhi --> Fraser before the price hike.
Am planning to take a hit for Pedro --> Richalison.
Consensus here is to wait and see for Mendy, AWB will take his place if he's still out.
    Any other areas of concern?

    Patricio, Fab
    Alonso, Robbo, Mendy*, AWB, Peltier
    Lucas, Haz, Fraser, Pedro, Mane
    Kun, Mitro, Ings

    2.0 itb. 0 FT.

    Thanks lads.

Same for me with Mendy/AWB so not concerned at all, se it as a win-win 🙂

However I can't understand the pedro - > rich at all, and even less for a hit. And even LESS when Rich is playing Arsenal and Pedro is playing West Ham.

Kovacic is reported to have an (smaller) injury, and Pedro always gets game time. There's a decent chance he'll start the game but even if he doesn't he'll still have a good chance of getting you points.

Wait until after this GW and see how Richarlison looks, at least..

Advice would be appreciated, thinking about WCing after this week scoutcast. Was waiting until the next International Break.

    Patricio
    Mendy Robertson Alonso
    Salah(C) Bilva Walcott Fraser
    Zaha Mitro Kun
    Fab WanB Boly Stephens

    A) Walcott > Richarlison (-4)
    B) Bilva > Dilva (-4)
    C) Wildcard, would bring in Hazard.
