In this article, we take a look at how the current top 10,000 teams in Fantasy Premier League shaped up for Gameweek 6.

First of all, it is important to note that we are still in the very early stages of the season and the ranks of the current top 10k managers fluctuate wildly from week to week.

As we can see from the above graphic, the difference between the top 10k and top 50k is just 20 points. Add another 11 points difference and you reach the top 100k. The margins, therefore, are still very tight and we shouldn’t be too concerned about our overall ranks at this juncture.

As for chip usage, 4.3% of managers in the top 10k used their Wildcard this week. This pushes the usage of the chip among this sample of FPL bosses to 48.38%, meaning that almost half of the top 10,000 managers’ wildcards have already been used.

As expected, the current top 10k managers have benefited from the use of more chips than the average overall. In a sample of 50,000 random managers, the total Wildcard use is just 27.23%.

However, there are still 42.5% of current top 10k teams who are yet to deploy a chip, which gives them a competitive edge at this point.

Onto team selection. Below is a team of the most-owned players in the top 10k:

One of the key things to notice is how the ownership of Mohamed Salah has been declining fast and he is now in just 34% of the sampled teams. His teammate, Sadio Mane, has more than double that ownership with almost 70%. In addition, Eden Hazard‘s ownership in the top 10k has spiked to 89.55%, a close second to Sergio Aguero who has 89.82%.

Aguero is also leading the captaincy stats in the top 10k as we see below:

Looking more into the Wildcard teams, with this being the chip most widely deployed in Gameweek 6, we see that the Wildcarders opted for some different picks than the most-owned players.

The main difference is the non-inclusion of Benjamin Mendy among the most-owned defenders due to his injury – Wildcarders instead went for cheap options like Matt Doherty and Ryan Bennett of Wolves.

Another key name not featuring in the “template” Wildcard team is Salah. Richarlison and James Maddison replace him, while, of course, Hazard is in practically every Wildcard team (94.65%).

To see which Premier League sides have made bigger contributions to the top 10k teams, we look at the following figure:

Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea are the main sources for picks in the top 10k, with averages of 2.2, 2.1 and 2.0 players per FPL team. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace contribute 1.6 players per team – mostly Wilfried Zaha and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. There is also at least one (1.1) Bournemouth player in every top 10k team.

As for Wildcarders, those five aforementioned teams are still the top five sides to pick from, but with more distribution between them.

The number of Liverpool players remains the same, with Roberto Firmino and the Reds’ defenders replacing Salah, while the number of Manchester City players is decreasing in Wildcards from 2.2 to just 1.7; the absence of Mendy and the usual midfield rotation could be the main reasons for such a decline. On the rise though is the ownership of Crystal Palace (1.6 to 1.8), Bournemouth (1.1 to 1.2), Fulham (0.6 to 0.7) and Leicester (0.5 to 0.7) assets, as all enjoy decent fixtures in the coming weeks.

Stats don’t give you points on FPL though. Tadic was the prime example of that. I couldn’t see Silva starting this weekend and his returns previously had been hugely disappointing.

The other attackers in City are better options, and I would've ditched him if I was on a WC this week too, but calling him a coverage pick just proves that he's not watching the games and just looking at his points.

He looked very good last week but he didnt start the week before and he wasnt really involved too much in the 3 games before that.

Looked good vs Huddersfield too. Agree he didn't look great vs Wolves.

Not starting one game out of 6 isn't a big deal for a 7.5m City attacker and not relevant to the "coverage pick" argument.

No but if he’s not starting you need him to get consistent returns when he does. At least an assist regularly

Am I happy with his output from 6 weeks? No. But when you're in GW5 and you're looking forward to GW6, how many points he's got in the first 5 weeks isn't relevant to me IF he is performing well in the games. That's the key to not points chasing.

When I watched him in GW5, he didn't do much wrong. As I argued with Chasimus, he put it on a plate for Sterling for a one-on-one, who fluffed it. Can we blame Bilva for that? He was also very involved in their first goal. You can't always get the goalscorers/assisters right, there's some randomness and luck involved. The point is that Bilva is involved in their attack. A similar role to David Silva, but David is the better player.

But when I'm in GW5 looking ahead to GW6, I'm mainly only looking at his performance in GW5. His past blanks are done, there's nothing to be done about that. Chasimus was apparently "watching the game" and still calling him a coverage pick

    4. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
      • 16 Years

Hold on, are you actually denying Bilva was a coverage pick? Plus, how are we to believe you didn't sell Bilva after his four consecutive blanks? You may as well be bleating about captaining Ashley Barnes for all we know...

I'm also flattered that you are copying & pasting my comments again, I must have touched a nerve 🙂 While you've got your copying & pasting hat on, can you also go back & dig up the links where you have spouted an infathomable amount of other claptrap? Maybe start with a few humdingers including (let's paraphrase as rather than word for word):

      - Couldn't understand the hype about Hazard
      - Called signing Alonso points chasing (before allegedly signing him lol)
      - Criticised Ings transfers as knee jerk

I'd recommend if you are indeed watching games, you pay more attention, as the conclusions you're drawing from them are dubious to say the least lol

If I was on a wildcard I would sell him and cash in.
Now is the time to get non-champions league players (except Kane) with good fixtures now and for three weeks time Leicester, Brighton, Watford, West Ham, Chelsea etc
I would even consider selling Aguero for Kane if I was on a wildcard, as Kane never gets rested and plays the full 90.

This transfer (obviously) won't happen tonight, but for my current team:

    Patricio
    Alonso / Robertson / Mendy*
    Salah / Hazard / Richarlison / Fraser
    Aguero / Zaha / Ings

    Hamer // AWB / Tomkins / Neves

How do you rate the following transfers?:
    [Mendy > Doherty] + [Ings > Mitrovic]

Alternatively, I could go [Mendy > Bennet] with the same [Ings > Mitrovic] move.
This would leave [Zaha > Vardy] & [Neves > 4.5m] open for the following week.

    Thoughts?

        Alonso - VVD - Shaw - AWB - (Bennet).

        Salah - Hazard - Richarlison - Knockaert - (Billing).

        Aguero - Mitro - Arnie.

This is a strong team with Depth though debating between Richarlison and Maddison...

I don't think people are obsessed. But people want to be on board when Spurs do start to play well so it's understandable that there is chat about it

For a team not playing well, they're far from capitulating. They have an EXCELLENT manager and the squad has a bit of character.

The dislike for them on this site is bizarre.

      Not a Spurs fan either.

They play the two teams who have both scored the least and conceded the most in consecutive GW's, why would people not be looking at Spurs assets?

No but I think safe to assume he could be out for a couple more weeks - a bruised foot bone isn’t great

poor decision on my part to bench Wan, hopefully Bellerin doesn't play.

if you had to pick one of these which one would you take?

    a) Arnie and Hazard(C)
    b) Bellerin and Hazard +7

Gotta get Mendy out...with TAA, Alonso and AWB already who's best bet? Trippier rotation is very concerning, but form is tempting and attacking returns. Or just go Doherty or Jonny and bank funds?

Doherty or Jonny are good options imo

I want to ship a lot of players. Who would you get rid of first?

    A) Aguero (would buy Mitro)
    B) Shaw (3.9 Kelly)
    C) Moura
    D) Mane
    E) Fraser

This game is all about captaining. I would break into top 50 OR last week if I captained Hazard over Kun.

And I’m sure if everyone else captained there highest scoring players then you’d be around the same rank.

In depth work but it’s hardly surprising that the highest scoring players are in the top 10k teams after five weeks and a bit...

Is Aguero to Kane and Mendy to Doherty/Jonny a bad move (after Brighton).. That would leave Cardiff at hm for Kane and Aguero away to Liverpool..

Slightly worried about the rotation whereas Kane is absolutely guaranteed to play at least 80 minutes

"However, there are still 42.5% of current top 10k teams who are yet to deploy a chip, which gives them a competitive edge at this point." - makes me feel so smug, I think i am gonna win fpl this time around out boys
