In this article, we take a look at how the current top 10,000 teams in Fantasy Premier League shaped up for Gameweek 6.

First of all, it is important to note that we are still in the very early stages of the season and the ranks of the current top 10k managers fluctuate wildly from week to week.

As we can see from the above graphic, the difference between the top 10k and top 50k is just 20 points. Add another 11 points difference and you reach the top 100k. The margins, therefore, are still very tight and we shouldn’t be too concerned about our overall ranks at this juncture.

As for chip usage, 4.3% of managers in the top 10k used their Wildcard this week. This pushes the usage of the chip among this sample of FPL bosses to 48.38%, meaning that almost half of the top 10,000 managers’ wildcards have already been used.

As expected, the current top 10k managers have benefited from the use of more chips than the average overall. In a sample of 50,000 random managers, the total Wildcard use is just 27.23%.

However, there are still 42.5% of current top 10k teams who are yet to deploy a chip, which gives them a competitive edge at this point.

Onto team selection. Below is a team of the most-owned players in the top 10k:

One of the key things to notice is how the ownership of Mohamed Salah has been declining fast and he is now in just 34% of the sampled teams. His teammate, Sadio Mane, has more than double that ownership with almost 70%. In addition, Eden Hazard‘s ownership in the top 10k has spiked to 89.55%, a close second to Sergio Aguero who has 89.82%.

Aguero is also leading the captaincy stats in the top 10k as we see below:

Looking more into the Wildcard teams, with this being the chip most widely deployed in Gameweek 6, we see that the Wildcarders opted for some different picks than the most-owned players.

The main difference is the non-inclusion of Benjamin Mendy among the most-owned defenders due to his injury – Wildcarders instead went for cheap options like Matt Doherty and Ryan Bennett of Wolves.

Another key name not featuring in the “template” Wildcard team is Salah. Richarlison and James Maddison replace him, while, of course, Hazard is in practically every Wildcard team (94.65%).

To see which Premier League sides have made bigger contributions to the top 10k teams, we look at the following figure:

Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea are the main sources for picks in the top 10k, with averages of 2.2, 2.1 and 2.0 players per FPL team. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace contribute 1.6 players per team – mostly Wilfried Zaha and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. There is also at least one (1.1) Bournemouth player in every top 10k team.

As for Wildcarders, those five aforementioned teams are still the top five sides to pick from, but with more distribution between them.

The number of Liverpool players remains the same, with Roberto Firmino and the Reds’ defenders replacing Salah, while the number of Manchester City players is decreasing in Wildcards from 2.2 to just 1.7; the absence of Mendy and the usual midfield rotation could be the main reasons for such a decline. On the rise though is the ownership of Crystal Palace (1.6 to 1.8), Bournemouth (1.1 to 1.2), Fulham (0.6 to 0.7) and Leicester (0.5 to 0.7) assets, as all enjoy decent fixtures in the coming weeks.

Little worried about Kane's form but maybe it's right time to buy Him before Hudd, Cardif and West Ham.

            1. MTPockets
              7 years, 11 months ago

I think fixtures matter as well as form. I don't have Kane, but given how huddersfield and cardiff are doing it's not a great stretch to think he may score against both. My issue is his price.

    Bottomed

    Just wildcarded

    Salah to Richarlison
    Mendy to Doherty
    Neves to Maddison
    Mitrovic to Kane
    Masuaku to Fellaini

    To get

    Ederson, Stekelenburg
    TAA, Alonso, Trippier, WB, Doherty
    Hazard, Richarlison, Fraser, Maddison, Fellaini
    Kane, Kun, King

0.6 itb and if needed I can switch back Maddison or Richarlison to Salah and Kane to Mitro after gw8.

    Thoughts ?

Actially I have 0.6 itb which gives me enough to Get Mitro for King without downgrading Fellaini. But would 0.0 be too dangerous to get it back to Salah and King in gw9?

    (2FT, 1.3 itb)

    Patricio
    Alonso/Robertson/W-B

    Bench: Hamer, Mendy*, Stephens*, Peltier*

In all honesty I'm happy that it's worked out and as I said you had a great snake draft.
It must have been frustrating I reckon after blowing so much on defenders.
I wanted Aanholt and I thought if you got squad players in return it would be fair....so far so good. 🙂
Personnally I bought into the idea of the 'legacy' side of the game and took a long term approach.
I see myself as a Sir Alex of Glasgow kind of figure in years to come... 😆

You're probably right. 🙂 Mendy or VvD out this week sets me up quite nicely again although little depleted squad with also few other changes in mind added to injured players that wildcarding could fix quickly. Planning to WC this week - do you think it is worth selling Salah tonight in case he drops? I want him in my final WC team, so this would just be to buy him back at the lower price.

Just hit the button and get rid of all the players with no additional value for potential risers.

Cheers all. This is my current squad for what it's worth. Had targeted this week for the WC due to Liv vs Che and the shift in fixtures for Liv.

        This is my current squad:

        Fab Fos
        Alonso Robertson Walker AWB Cedric
        Salah Mane B.Silva Neves Ward
        Aguero Arnie Ings

Grit my teeth and grt through these 2 gameweeks. Robbo is the only one im not keen on playing though.

Mane n salah can score, chelsea n city defence isnt that good

Hmm I might do the same but feel worried about being left behind as a result. If Liverpool score 2 across the 2 games and concede in both then we will have a pretty rough time...

Why do you only expect them to score 2 across the 2? They scored 4 and 3 in their last 2 home games against City.

considering switching Mane/Salah to Hazard, keeping Robbo.

Hazard vs Liverpool is tough too ... really worth the transfer?

Got bigger fish to fry. Because there's 2 tough fixtures coming up, all 3 should be nailed and all 3 have a reasonable chance of returns if Pool are serious about the title challenge this season.

Is Bennett to Doherty sideways or what?

    I am tempted...

Doherty is the better asset, for sure

presumably if you had Bennett in the first place you wanted that extra cash for something else no?

That was Mkhitaryan, worst decision ever. He’s gone and I have some funds to splash.

Also got Mendy but happy with defence for Thai week so tempted just to bench.

does Pedro need to go tonight? Was planning on bringing in Richarlison this week for him but i don't usually like being rushed into these kind of things so early by price falls

    1FT, 3.2 ITB

    Ederson
    Robbo, Alonso, Bennet
    Hazard, Fraser, Richarlison, Mane
    Wilson, Aguero, Mitroivic

    Bench: (Hamer), AWB, Kante, Mendy

    1) Get rid of Mendy and bring Yedlin for Yedlin/AWB/Bennet rotation
    2) Kante to Maddison
    3) Wilson to Vardy
    4) Mane to Salah

    It's all about team structure.

I can downgrade Mendy and keep Mane. Then i can go for Maddison/Richarlison/Hazard/Fraser/Mane midfield and Vardy/Aguero/Mitrovic forward.

I can keep Mendy, downgrade Robbo to TAA and go for Salah/Hazard/Maddison/Fraser/Richarlison. Then ill rotate Fraser and Jimenez upfront.

    Any thoughts?

Fabianski dropping tonight a bit annoying... only problem in team is Mendy but I might just hold. Worth it to get rid of Fab for Patricio? Other GK is McCarthy.

I'm not too bothered about the 0.1 it's just that Fab/McCarthy are bad options anyway and I want Patricio - but yeah, I guess I should just take the drop and wait and see.

Does the price fall follow the same pattern as price rise? Basically I’ve had Mendy from the start so is worth 6.2 in transfer out value for me but 6.4 for anyone who wants to buy him that doesn’t already have him. Will his value to me drop to 6.1 if his overall value lowers to 6.3??

I’ve probab not explained that wel but hopefully someone will work it out!

basically if you've had him from the start and he drops to 6.3, his value to you will be 6.1 - at least i'm pretty sure that's right.

Sells at half your gains (rounded down if something and a half).
