In this article, we take a look at how the current top 10,000 teams in Fantasy Premier League shaped up for Gameweek 6.

First of all, it is important to note that we are still in the very early stages of the season and the ranks of the current top 10k managers fluctuate wildly from week to week.

As we can see from the above graphic, the difference between the top 10k and top 50k is just 20 points. Add another 11 points difference and you reach the top 100k. The margins, therefore, are still very tight and we shouldn’t be too concerned about our overall ranks at this juncture.

As for chip usage, 4.3% of managers in the top 10k used their Wildcard this week. This pushes the usage of the chip among this sample of FPL bosses to 48.38%, meaning that almost half of the top 10,000 managers’ wildcards have already been used.

As expected, the current top 10k managers have benefited from the use of more chips than the average overall. In a sample of 50,000 random managers, the total Wildcard use is just 27.23%.

However, there are still 42.5% of current top 10k teams who are yet to deploy a chip, which gives them a competitive edge at this point.

Onto team selection. Below is a team of the most-owned players in the top 10k:

One of the key things to notice is how the ownership of Mohamed Salah has been declining fast and he is now in just 34% of the sampled teams. His teammate, Sadio Mane, has more than double that ownership with almost 70%. In addition, Eden Hazard‘s ownership in the top 10k has spiked to 89.55%, a close second to Sergio Aguero who has 89.82%.

Aguero is also leading the captaincy stats in the top 10k as we see below:

Looking more into the Wildcard teams, with this being the chip most widely deployed in Gameweek 6, we see that the Wildcarders opted for some different picks than the most-owned players.

The main difference is the non-inclusion of Benjamin Mendy among the most-owned defenders due to his injury – Wildcarders instead went for cheap options like Matt Doherty and Ryan Bennett of Wolves.

Another key name not featuring in the “template” Wildcard team is Salah. Richarlison and James Maddison replace him, while, of course, Hazard is in practically every Wildcard team (94.65%).

To see which Premier League sides have made bigger contributions to the top 10k teams, we look at the following figure:

Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea are the main sources for picks in the top 10k, with averages of 2.2, 2.1 and 2.0 players per FPL team. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace contribute 1.6 players per team – mostly Wilfried Zaha and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. There is also at least one (1.1) Bournemouth player in every top 10k team.

As for Wildcarders, those five aforementioned teams are still the top five sides to pick from, but with more distribution between them.

The number of Liverpool players remains the same, with Roberto Firmino and the Reds’ defenders replacing Salah, while the number of Manchester City players is decreasing in Wildcards from 2.2 to just 1.7; the absence of Mendy and the usual midfield rotation could be the main reasons for such a decline. On the rise though is the ownership of Crystal Palace (1.6 to 1.8), Bournemouth (1.1 to 1.2), Fulham (0.6 to 0.7) and Leicester (0.5 to 0.7) assets, as all enjoy decent fixtures in the coming weeks.

Think I'll move Mendy out for a Spurs defender!
Trippier the most tempting but Vertonghen looks the safest?

Yes but wouldn't go anywhere near that Spurs def until Lloris is back.

They look extremely vulnerable, especially down their left (courtesy Danny Rose).

Agree, but Huddersfield and Cardiff next two fixtures are as good as it gets!

Poor fixtures might guarantee attacking returns for the team's key player but not always clean sheets.

Man City vs Huddersfield and Chelsea vs Cardiff is the best example of this.

We all expected City and Chelsea to keep cleanies but they didn't.

We all also expected Kun and Azza to go mad in those games and they did.

Even if you consider Spurs def, Trippier is always a rotation threat and Vertonghen isn't exactly a point-magnet.

Poor form + good fixtures doesn't always turn out the way you want. But fair enough. Huge rotation issues as well.

Yeah, it's a bit of a worry for sure! Vert should be pretty safe from rotation though?

Yeah dunno anymore. Probably the safest. Need a Trippier/Rose/Davies/Aurier injury to point us in the right direction!

I might hold fire though I guess as I have Cook & Bennett on the bench, although Cook's 1 pointer last week and 0 this week was a killer 🙁

True mate, but those next two are too tempting! I bought Mendy at 6.0 so can sell for 6.2 now, also have Ederson so don't particularly want to swap out for a City defender.

Robertson the other obvious alternative but don't like his next two fix!

Yeah, think I'll wait for 2 weeks and then do Mendy to Robertson.

Bench can somewhat deal with Mendy's absence.

Looking a bit longer term, next 8 games on the fixture tracker NEW have a super run bar United away after such a tough start. Anyone considering someone like Yedlin 4.5m to rotate as 3/4 defender? Palace have ars che tot utd coming up soon all in a row so could work well with AWB as sub
Or what about double Leicester? I already have Vardy but Maddison still seems decent value and fixtures to back it up?

    Appreciate your input here

Have been saying Dubravka since last couple of weeks, especially for those on WC.

Dont know much about their defenders though, who is nailed, who isnt. If someone is nailed, then good value...

They say Maddison has been lucky but those watching the game says he is passing eye test. Getting decent points though and cheap as well, can work.

    Hamer, Patricio
    Alonso,Mendy,Robbo,AWB,bednarek
    Salah,hazard, richarlison,Moura,masuaku
    Kun,Wilson,Ings

    To this

    Hart/Patricio
    Alonso,TAA,AWB,Bennett, 5.3
    Salah,hazard, richarlison,Fraser,hojbjerg
    Kun, lacazette,Ings

5.3 can be Shaw or holebas

Hey guys, mediocre week, pretty happy with most of the side. Weighing up the following options:

    A) PVA ➡ Doherty
    B) Zaha ➡ Mitrovic
    C) PVA + Zaha + Højbjerg ➡ Doherty + Deeney/Ings/Jimenez + Richarlison (-8)

    Any preferences? Leaning towards B

      B

Mitrovic is a better option than Zaha long-term no?

Yeah, C does mean I have to bench Doherty most weeks. OK with that tbh, but I think the -8 makes that route prety hard to go with.

Assuming Højbjerg is your fodder you'll have to bench one of your attacker.. Never considered Mitro but may be I am biased because its Fulham.. Don't trust small teams with unidentified playing style..

They're pretty attacking. 4-3-3, focusing on getting it wide and into the box. Haven't quite settled on their best XI yet with the new signings, but they were much improved yesterday in the second half after a few changes. Looking positive for them

Ghezzal was a punt gone wrong. It's either Hughes or Ghezzal out for me. I'll wait for the Leicester line up leak, if Ghezzal isn't starting he's gone. Hughes hasn't been involved much from what I've seen. 4 blanks in 6 isn't that great either and Arsenal away coming up.
