In this article, we take a look at how the current top 10,000 teams in Fantasy Premier League shaped up for Gameweek 6.

First of all, it is important to note that we are still in the very early stages of the season and the ranks of the current top 10k managers fluctuate wildly from week to week.

As we can see from the above graphic, the difference between the top 10k and top 50k is just 20 points. Add another 11 points difference and you reach the top 100k. The margins, therefore, are still very tight and we shouldn’t be too concerned about our overall ranks at this juncture.

As for chip usage, 4.3% of managers in the top 10k used their Wildcard this week. This pushes the usage of the chip among this sample of FPL bosses to 48.38%, meaning that almost half of the top 10,000 managers’ wildcards have already been used.

As expected, the current top 10k managers have benefited from the use of more chips than the average overall. In a sample of 50,000 random managers, the total Wildcard use is just 27.23%.

However, there are still 42.5% of current top 10k teams who are yet to deploy a chip, which gives them a competitive edge at this point.

Onto team selection. Below is a team of the most-owned players in the top 10k:

One of the key things to notice is how the ownership of Mohamed Salah has been declining fast and he is now in just 34% of the sampled teams. His teammate, Sadio Mane, has more than double that ownership with almost 70%. In addition, Eden Hazard‘s ownership in the top 10k has spiked to 89.55%, a close second to Sergio Aguero who has 89.82%.

Aguero is also leading the captaincy stats in the top 10k as we see below:

Looking more into the Wildcard teams, with this being the chip most widely deployed in Gameweek 6, we see that the Wildcarders opted for some different picks than the most-owned players.

The main difference is the non-inclusion of Benjamin Mendy among the most-owned defenders due to his injury – Wildcarders instead went for cheap options like Matt Doherty and Ryan Bennett of Wolves.

Another key name not featuring in the “template” Wildcard team is Salah. Richarlison and James Maddison replace him, while, of course, Hazard is in practically every Wildcard team (94.65%).

To see which Premier League sides have made bigger contributions to the top 10k teams, we look at the following figure:

Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea are the main sources for picks in the top 10k, with averages of 2.2, 2.1 and 2.0 players per FPL team. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace contribute 1.6 players per team – mostly Wilfried Zaha and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. There is also at least one (1.1) Bournemouth player in every top 10k team.

As for Wildcarders, those five aforementioned teams are still the top five sides to pick from, but with more distribution between them.

The number of Liverpool players remains the same, with Roberto Firmino and the Reds’ defenders replacing Salah, while the number of Manchester City players is decreasing in Wildcards from 2.2 to just 1.7; the absence of Mendy and the usual midfield rotation could be the main reasons for such a decline. On the rise though is the ownership of Crystal Palace (1.6 to 1.8), Bournemouth (1.1 to 1.2), Fulham (0.6 to 0.7) and Leicester (0.5 to 0.7) assets, as all enjoy decent fixtures in the coming weeks.

Hughes had a great pre-season, his FPL stay seems most favourable of the three, Watford more attacking than The other two

Clutching at straws but gonna go for him as Arsenal are wooly at the back and fixtures from there prob better than other two

      Just wildcarded

      Salah to Richarlison
      Mendy to Doherty
      Neves to Maddison
      Mitrovic to Kane
      Masuaku to Fellaini

      To get

      Ederson, Stekelenburg
      TAA, Alonso, Trippier, WB, Doherty
      Hazard, Richarlison, Fraser, Maddison, Fellaini
      Kane, Kun, King

0.6 itb and if needed I can switch back Maddison or Richarlison to Salah and Kane to Mitro after gw8.

Personally think assuming that tough fixtures mean it’s best to be rid of Liverpool attack is a mistake. They love a good stand-off against strong opponents as much as an “easy” match

Don’t get me wrong the team looks decent but atm Kane hasn’t impressed me whereas I’d expect Salah to return to form

      Wan-Bissaka - Robertson - Steve Cook - Alonso (Mendy)

This is my defence going into next GW. Should I prioritize a defensive transfer rather than Salah with my one free transfer? Can see a series of 1-2 pointers for this lot.

I think I’m done with Salah, for now at least. Only replacement really tempting me is Sterling but having three City, I need rid of Mendy to do it. And I can’t see a defender I want. Spurs are defending poorly, Utd are doing everything poorly, Chelsea don’t seem defensive enough to warrant doubling, Arsenal are being weird ... would have grabbed Pereira for fixtures plus OOP but he was dropped today. Don’t know what to do with my 2 FT

                Hah!

Which defender would you recommend? I’m tempted to ride the lightning with Pereira. Great fixtures and the benching was *probably* a one off, given how he’s performed.

Last one I would go from the ones you mentioned. If he was benched than something is not ok with him or he may be dropped, monitor.
Trippier is on set pieces and has nice fix plus looks like he will play in the league - great pick.
If you dont have Liv than TAA or Robo even they have 2 hard fix as they are good attacking players and you need one long term.

Kinda same boat hence Lascelles pick, decent rotation while banking 1.6million.
Shaw might be worth a punt and always liked Trippier but.......

Toon seem like they’re waiting to get back to the Championship to me.

Your team looks great. Mine is quite similar but you have Hazard instead of my Mane. If Kane doesn't tempt you I would just use 1 FT to bring in someone like Richarlison or Maddison in for Kante.

Want to do something different. Like dropping Salah for Kane. Hope Hazard doesn't go too crazy tomorrow. If he does I think I have to bring him in for one of my Pool mids. And that's boring transfer.

Similar issues. Mendy problem - could downgrade to upgrade Pedro. Would like Sane/spurs mid but they're not nailed/lacking form. So instead switch Mendy to similar e.g. Walker - then who for Pedro because nobody really appeals at that price. Maybe the middle ground like Pogba or Bernardo but I'd be doing that just for sake of it.

Think I'll just hope for good injury news.

So the big question- is salah worth 13m? I think he was lucky to get that goal today.

Yes for me, he gets too many touches in the box & takes a lot of shots from close range

hud and CAR coming up looks too good to ditch. Or does that add to Mane's appeal?

Josh started slowly and took a whack early. Settled down, and on tope in the 4th. 7th a couple of combos took him down. Good clean fight. Watching those combos in slow mo was epic.

Is this is the easiest transfer ever?

            Milner > Richarlison?

            Rest of team is

            Patricio Hart
            Alonso TAA Shaw AWB Bennett
            Hazard Moura Dilva ??? Hojbjerg
            Aguero Lukaku Mitrovic

            Have 7.1m to spend.

AJ wins. But so he should really. A two stone weight advantage is a four division difference really, anywhere but the heavyweight division.

GW going ok, but want to sort Mendy issue. Thinking I'll downgrade to make some money to up my 4th mid Neves.
            Thinking one of:
TAA, Gomez, Smalling, Shaw, Tarkowski, Chilwell.
Will rotate with Holebas and Wan-Biss (Alonso and Robertson fixed). I'm thinking ManU but can't decide who's most nailed?
            Can anyone suggest, please?

            Hennessey
            Alonso - TAA - Tripier
            Mane - Hazard - D. Silva - Fraser
            Aguero - Firmino - Mitro
            (Hamer - AWB - Højbjerg - Bennett)

            0.3 ITB, 1 FT.

            No changes needed, right?

Maby Lucas, on account of other Spurs players knocking on the door for gametime. Mendy could be 2 weeks. Could be longer.
