We have revised our Watchlist player rankings for goalkeepers and defenders following Gameweek 6.

The Watchlist can be found in your sidebar on a desktop, or via your slide-in menu on mobile or tablet. It acts as a collection of our current thoughts on player selection for each position, also citing the factors that affect their ranking on the list.

As a general rule, we try to commit to just one player per position per club. However, in some cases we where we believe double-coverage is advisable, two players will be listed instead.

Goalkeepers

Ederson (Ā£5.6m) remains top of the Watchlist after securing his third clean sheet and a fourth return of the campaign in Gameweek 6. However, the Manchester City man loses his Favourable Fixtures factor with two particularly tough matches in their next four. Home matches against Brighton and Burnley sit alongside trips to Liverpool and Tottenham.

Alisson (Ā£5.6m) also retains his place in the Watchlist based on his impressive form. The Liverpool man has kept a clean sheet in all but two matches so far this season. Neither of the fixtures factors applies to Alisson though with two favourable matches against Huddersfield and Cardiff coming after Chelsea and Man City.

Rui PatrĆcio (Ā£4.5m) and David de Gea (Ā£5.9m) are two more non-movers on the Watchlist with no change in their respective form or quality of fixtures.

Kasper Schmeichel (Ā£5.0m) and Petr Cech (Ā£5.0m) appear next to reflect their continued good fixtures. Neither side has been particularly adept at keeping clean sheets in 2018/19, but they still have the potential. Schmeichel sits a little higher for an increased certainty of a start.

Joe Hart (Ā£4.5m) is the first of two new inclusions in the Goalkeeper section of the Watchlist. His clean sheet against Bournemouth was his second of the season as the Clarets work towards improving on a poor start. Neither fixtures factor applies to him with Cardiff and Huddersfield up next but Man City and Chelsea after that.

Wayne Hennessey (Ā£4.5m) drops a little bit despite recording a third clean sheet of the season in Gameweek 6. Just below him is our second new entry Martin Dubravka (Ā£5.0m). Newcastle’s fixtures are on the turn now and apart from a trip to Manchester United in Gameweek 8, have several with clean sheet potential between now and Gameweek 19.

The popularity of Marcos Alonso (Ā£6.9m) has pushed Kepa (Ā£5.5m) off the Watchlist. The left-back is heavily owned for his offensive potential, and the current state of Chelsea’s fixtures do not encourage double-coverage of their defence.

Asmir Begovic (Ā£4.5m) also dropped off after yet another match in which Bournemouth conceded more goals than their underlying numbers suggested they should have done.

Defenders

Alonso remains the top pick in defence. The Chelsea man has returned points in all but one match thus far in 2018/19, with three clean sheets, a goal and five assists to his name.

Kieran Trippier (Ā£6.1m) has received a boost after registering his second assist of the season in Gameweek 6. He rises up the ranks as a result of other premium options facing injury and/or tough fixtures. Conversely, Spurs rank second for defence on our Season Ticker over the next six Gameweeks, and Trippier has a role in set pieces.

Andrew Robertson (Ā£6.2m) just about holds onto his place but Trent Alexander-Arnold has run him close. The Scottish left-back has shown more consistent attacking returns over the course of the season so far, and we believe he is more likely to continue that during tough fixtures. Robertson is also more adept at picking up bonus points with Alexander-Arnold already earning three yellow cards this season.

Aymeric Laporte (Ā£5.5m) takes Benjamin Mendy’s place on the Watchlist with a fair bit of uncertainty over the wing-back’s fitness. There is no return date on him currently and until we know more, we have to take him off. Laporte is the most reliable replacement considering he has played every minute of the league campaign so far and has some goal threat too.

Matt Doherty (Ā£4.4m) tops off the best of the rest with Wolves’ defensive potential, appealing fixtures and his budget price. Jose Holebas (Ā£4.9m) loses his price-related tag now that he has risen in price again but still stays in our thoughts with Watford’s relatively kind run and his role in set pieces. The Greek also receives a ‘Sus’ factor as he is one yellow card away from a one-match suspension.

Luke Shaw‘s (Ā£5.1m) return to the Man United team keeps him in the Watchlist and he manages to lose his Rotation Risk factor. Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Ā£4.3m) sits just below him. His slight increase in value has reduced his appeal a little for non-owners and only one of Crystal Palace’s next six fixtures looks like one where a clean sheet is likely for him.

DeAndre Yedlin (£4.5m) moves onto the defence Watchlist for the same reason as Dubravka. The American has a goal and an assist to his name so far this season and is the most assured of a start out of the budget options available at Newcastle. Jamaal Lascelles is arguably a bit too pricey while there is competition for places at left-back and centre-back between Ciaran Clark, Fabian Schär and Paul Dummett.

Ben Chilwell (Ā£5.0m) takes the place of colleague Ricardo Pereira after the latter was dropped for Gameweek 6. Pereira was held accountable by the local press for the manner of Leicester’s heavy defeat to Bournemouth in Gameweek 5. It appears that manager Claude Puel was in agreement as he deployed Daniel Amartey in his stead against Huddersfield. Meanwhile, Chilwell held onto his place and continued to post encouraging underlying statistics.

Surprised to not see more interest in Walker on here as a Mendy replacement. Seems the obvious replacement option and means you will definitely be able to make the switch back to Mendy if you want.

Too expensive for what will be primarily 6pt max return most weeks when City get a CS. For me personally, I already have Ederson as well, so happy to go with that to cover the City defense for now.

Yeah, and you could do it without a hit, completely discounting the possibility that Salah could score that too. Nonsense.

I mean like I had a wildcard with Pogba and Lukaku, so got Kane and Richarlison instead. Next Gameweek 100% Kane captain, but for now is 50/50 for me between Kane and Aguero. My head says Aguero, but my heart says Kane.
Not sure if Aguero will play 90 min and City players like to spread points between them. But he may also score 4 goals and I am dead in my mini league.
I am not sure, do you think he will play 90 min?

I ditched Lukaku and Pogba after last gameweek when they only got 6 points between them, and with recent dispute Jose-players, I got Kane earlier than everyone else. Glad I have Richarlison now. But, if I have Kane, must I captain him?

No, nothing like that. Just thought you brought in Kane this week. If you had brought him in this week, you should have thought of the captaincy prior to bringing him in, else the potential upside factoring in hits is too low. It is too close to call anyway.

      2. bentekkers2299

Why captain aguero when you can captain kane? Aguero is probably due a 60 min game with the earlier CL game on Tues. Kane is guaranteed a 90min game.

I thought about that too, I really want to captain Kane, but is it too risky. I am looking at the pool, and its crazy how many votes Aguero gets

I think it's abit skewed cause most will have Aguero only and no Kane. But if you want to play safe, you can just go for Aguero this week I guess. When scores a brace at least, everyone will be breaking their teams to get him in for the next week

Silly argument, of course you can get Kane and captain Aguero. Aguero massive leader in the poll and a plum home fixture. Does not mean Kane is not a good option at Huddersfield.
Kane a risky capt pick mainly because of the massive numbers captaining Aguero

If you watch that game, Kane doesn’t pass the eye test. Most of his shots were in the last 5-10 minutes when Brighton was abandoning defense to try and score a couple goals. Even then, he still looks like a donkey. Not sure if he is tired or playing slight sore/hurt.

Right now I would say yes. Rose has been excellent, and he has always been, it was his injury that made Bavies into first 11. I think Rose is a better player and you may wanna get him in your team because he will be a massive differential with everyone going to Trippier, I think Rose can outscore him easily, he is going forward a lot more than Trippier

If you are playing your free hit then go for a very cheap bench. Spend more in the XI. It also looks too template. You want 1 week differentials such as Kane, Sane, Alli etc.

Oops I thought you meant 1 FT not the FH chip.

I think if I was going to FH I would consider what a no Salah team buys me for the week...

Also not sure on the Wolves double up there.

A free hit team shouldn't look like this, it should be loaded with City/Wolves/Arsenal. Or do you mean you have a free transfer to make, if so then the team looks great, I'd even consider Bench boost!

    Ryan
    Alonso - Trippier - Robertson
    Pogba - Salah - Maddison - Hazard - Fraser
    Aguero - Jimenez

    Button - Doherty - AWB - Kamara

    2 FT
    0.2 ITB

    A) Pog & Jimenez > Rich & Mitro
    B) Pog & Kamara > Knockeart & Mitro
    C) Pog, Kamara & Robbo > Rich, Mitro & TAA (-4)
    D) Pog > Rich
    E) Ryan > Patricia
    F) Other

I'd keep Ryan, fixtures are acegor next 10 weeks or so. I also have just brought Jimi in, great option for the next few weeks imo. I'd probably just go with D but Maddison/Knockeart instead

      1. Demel
        • 14 Years
        7 years, 6 months ago

Did you mean C? I am really not sure I want to lose Mad. I agree about Ryan's fixtures and not wanting to lose Jim. Another option is to switch Pog & Kam > Rich & Illenacho

No I just meant do Pog to Knockeart/Maddison and save the FT. Then you can deal with Kam next week,

            • 14 Years

Another option is to downgrade Trip to TAA and bench one over the next 2 and go for the Pool defensive double up.

Would love some input on this wildcard team.

    Patricio
    Alonso-Doherty-Robertson
    Hazard-Mane-Fraser-Maddisson
    Aguero-Mitrovic-Wilson

    Fabianski, Richarlison, Bissaka, Duffy

    1.6 million itb, on wildcard

Got quite a bit in money left so some input would be greatly appreciated. Also not quite sure if I've benched the right players.

      Get Kane if on WC

Boot Mane and get a 5m enabler like Hughes - that lets you do Wilson to Kane. Stay ahead of the curve IMO if on WC.

How would u rate my current midfield.

Salah, Mane, Bilva, Walcott, CHO- Bench Fodder.

Have 2 ft's and thinking the only change I should make this GW is to replace Wally with Rich.

It means going another GW without favs such as Hazard + Fraser or even Maddison tho.

For me there is question marks over all of Mane, Bilva and Walcott so it just depends if you see it the same way...

Wally for sure is gone this GW. Rich (likely) or Maddison coming in.

Mane could do as well as Hazard I think + Bilva has showed in the last couple of games how important he is for City. Not playing any mins last night was a good sign too I think.
