Captains

This week looks like it could be one of the most one-sided captain debates in recent Fantasy Premier League memory.

Chelsea and Liverpool’s Stamford Bridge showdown on Saturday has cancelled out usual suspects Mohamed Salah and Eden Hazard, leaving just Sergio Aguero as an obvious candidate.

We’ve gone over our captain poll as well as data from the last four Gameweeks concerning individual players, team attacking numbers and opposition defensive statistics to find out the best option.

Captain Poll

Sergio Aguero (£11.4m) is set for the biggest margin of victory of any captain poll we have conducted so far this season in Gameweek 7.

The Manchester City man, set for a home fixture against Brighton, has 62% of the vote at the time of writing.

That’s not surprising considering that Aguero has averaged 11 points per home game in 2018/19, while the Seagulls have conceded five goals in their first three away matches.

The meeting between Chelsea and Liverpool has practically eliminated both usual suspects Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) and Eden Hazard (£11.0m).

They currently have 2.02% and 1.75% in the captain poll as a result of Saturday evening’s show-stopper event.

It is for this reason that Aguero is so far ahead in the vote.

Harry Kane (£12.4m) has come up in second place with 9%, which is still 53% lower than the Man City man.

Kane and his Tottenham colleagues do face a particularly appealing fixture in Gameweek 7 as they travel to face Huddersfield Town. The Terriers are one of just two sides yet to score a goal at home this season and they are yet to find the net from open play too. At the other end of the pitch they have been breached 14 times in six matches. Total domination is expected for Spurs, with Kane as the offensive focal point.

Ahead of the visit of a very leaky Fulham defence, Richarlison (£6.6m) looks set for a third-place finish in our poll. Before picking up a three-match ban in Gameweek 3, the Everton man had three goals to his name in the first two Gameweeks and appears to be a central attacking figure for the Toffees this season. He had more shots than any of his colleagues in the defeat at Arsenal so feels the most likely to take advantage of Fulham’s defensive vulnerabilities.

It is currently a close battle between Alexandre Lacazette (£9.5m) and Aleksandar Mitrovic (£7.0m) for fourth place, with 2.69% and 2.56% shares of the vote respectively.

Frenchman Lacazette has averaged 5.17 points per game so far this season and is preparing to host a Watford side with just one clean sheet in 2018/19.

Meanwhile, no player in the league has more goals than Mitrovic right now and Aguero is the only man to have fired off more shots than him in the opening six Gameweeks. Crucially, he’ll be facing an Everton outfit yet to keep a clean sheet this season.

The Gameweek 7 poll also showed early indications of Lacazette’s popularity compared to his esteemed colleague Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.8m). The Gabonese forward still remains in more Fantasy squads than Lacazette (11.2% ownership to 5.6%) but the latter has done marginally better in this week’s vote. While Lacazette has that 2.69% share, Aubameyang is below him on 2.07%.

Despite strong underlying numbers and a promising fixture in Gameweek 7, Romelu Lukaku (£11.1m) currently sits below both Salah and Hazard on 1.68% of the vote.

yes they are aiming for a long awaited cs which i believe will happen against one of the worst teams in the league, and trippier throws enough crosses into the box surely kane could latch on to one?

that would be 20-24pts right there

      Mourinho on Pogba

“He's a player like the others, no player is bigger than the club and if I'm happy with his work he plays if I'm not happy he doesn't play,
“Manchester United is bigger than anyone and I have to defend that.”
