Captains

This week looks like it could be one of the most one-sided captain debates in recent Fantasy Premier League memory.

Chelsea and Liverpool’s Stamford Bridge showdown on Saturday has cancelled out usual suspects Mohamed Salah and Eden Hazard, leaving just Sergio Aguero as an obvious candidate.

We’ve gone over our captain poll as well as data from the last four Gameweeks concerning individual players, team attacking numbers and opposition defensive statistics to find out the best option.

Captain Poll

Sergio Aguero (£11.4m) is set for the biggest margin of victory of any captain poll we have conducted so far this season in Gameweek 7.

The Manchester City man, set for a home fixture against Brighton, has 62% of the vote at the time of writing.

That’s not surprising considering that Aguero has averaged 11 points per home game in 2018/19, while the Seagulls have conceded five goals in their first three away matches.

The meeting between Chelsea and Liverpool has practically eliminated both usual suspects Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) and Eden Hazard (£11.0m).

They currently have 2.02% and 1.75% in the captain poll as a result of Saturday evening’s show-stopper event.

It is for this reason that Aguero is so far ahead in the vote.

Harry Kane (£12.4m) has come up in second place with 9%, which is still 53% lower than the Man City man.

Kane and his Tottenham colleagues do face a particularly appealing fixture in Gameweek 7 as they travel to face Huddersfield Town. The Terriers are one of just two sides yet to score a goal at home this season and they are yet to find the net from open play too. At the other end of the pitch they have been breached 14 times in six matches. Total domination is expected for Spurs, with Kane as the offensive focal point.

Ahead of the visit of a very leaky Fulham defence, Richarlison (£6.6m) looks set for a third-place finish in our poll. Before picking up a three-match ban in Gameweek 3, the Everton man had three goals to his name in the first two Gameweeks and appears to be a central attacking figure for the Toffees this season. He had more shots than any of his colleagues in the defeat at Arsenal so feels the most likely to take advantage of Fulham’s defensive vulnerabilities.

It is currently a close battle between Alexandre Lacazette (£9.5m) and Aleksandar Mitrovic (£7.0m) for fourth place, with 2.69% and 2.56% shares of the vote respectively.

Frenchman Lacazette has averaged 5.17 points per game so far this season and is preparing to host a Watford side with just one clean sheet in 2018/19.

Meanwhile, no player in the league has more goals than Mitrovic right now and Aguero is the only man to have fired off more shots than him in the opening six Gameweeks. Crucially, he’ll be facing an Everton outfit yet to keep a clean sheet this season.

The Gameweek 7 poll also showed early indications of Lacazette’s popularity compared to his esteemed colleague Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.8m). The Gabonese forward still remains in more Fantasy squads than Lacazette (11.2% ownership to 5.6%) but the latter has done marginally better in this week’s vote. While Lacazette has that 2.69% share, Aubameyang is below him on 2.07%.

Despite strong underlying numbers and a promising fixture in Gameweek 7, Romelu Lukaku (£11.1m) currently sits below both Salah and Hazard on 1.68% of the vote.

No fresh injury concerns for Wolves ahead of their game with Southampton.

Think I'll roll my transfer this week, bit concerned about no Mitro & Doherty in my team this week whilst Zaha, Walcott & Dilva may need to go soon but so many options at the moment I think 2 frees next week will be useful.

    G2G?

    Patricio
    Bennett, Alonso, Robbo
    Sane, Dilva, Hazard, Fraser
    Aguero, Zaha, Wilson

When I watch the Wolves highlights on MOTD Doherty makes me very nervous as a non owner, a bit like Alonso in the sense he plays so far forward and loves to attack, doesn't compare to Bennett. Doherty has goals in him this season for sure.

Does this no Haz, no Kane team look ok? Bench and order?

    0FT (-8 hit taken), £0.7itb

    Alonso, Robbo, Doherty
    Salah, Mané, Rich, Fraser
    Aguero (C), Wilson, Mitro

    (Foster) (PVA, AWB, Hughes)

As you can see I have a benching headache and feel a bit sick benching both AWB and PVA but they are unlikely to get a cleanie.

    What do you think?

I'm playing PVA ahead of TAA (also playing Doherty and Alonso).
Not much in it, but imo no point having PVA if you don't play in a fixture that's bound to have goals.

      1. Don Kloppeone
        • 9 Years
        8 years, 9 days ago

Yes but that’s the same argument for Robertson who arguably gets more involved in attacking play than PVA and is in a game where it will be all out attack for most of it

PVA has the edge over TAA, maybe not Robertson, for attacking play. Personally don't see a cricket score in the Chelsea match, but could be in the other one. Good luck 🙂

Can't tell if I've over invested in defence, or if AWB and Doherty are just so good that it puts pressure on the 343 structure.

Have I got this defence benching order right?

Would swap Johnny for yedlin. Way too many eggs in that Wolves basket. A double up is at least manageable. Newcastle relatively strong defensively and at home. Depending on your ovr rank if you're feeling punty go laca cap. Don't like the ozil pick. Wait does your lineup add up to 100m

Squad value 102.0. I prefer Jonny to Yedlin this week, since Newcastle face least season's 7th highest scoring team (iirc) who have just found their mojo (at least for one week anyway). But the feedback is making me rethink the bench order, thanks.

      For GW7, Stones > Laporte > Shaw > Delph > Keane > Morrison > Monreal > Alderweireld > Rico > Vertonghen > Digne > Smalling
      Over the next few GWs, Stones > Laporte > Shaw > Maguire > Holebas > Alexander-Arnold > Delph > Rudiger > Alderweireld > Smalling > Vertonghen > Monreal

Hold. Or else bring in someone else. God know what Mourinho might decide to do with Pogba. He could be benched for all we know.

Bellow 9.3 i dont see many nailed options and i would eventually being Eriksen back. Maybe its best to relax and hold

Both could easily get attacking returns so don't bench either

Sterling going very under the radar this season. Like Hazard, Sterling has delivered in all but 1 of his games. I'm going to bring him in this weekend, a differential that could pay off hugely.

He is not going under the radar, he's just too expensive for his ceiling which is 10-13 points.
