This week looks like it could be one of the most one-sided captain debates in recent Fantasy Premier League memory.

Chelsea and Liverpool’s Stamford Bridge showdown on Saturday has cancelled out usual suspects Mohamed Salah and Eden Hazard, leaving just Sergio Aguero as an obvious candidate.

We’ve gone over our captain poll as well as data from the last four Gameweeks concerning individual players, team attacking numbers and opposition defensive statistics to find out the best option.

Captain Poll

Sergio Aguero (£11.4m) is set for the biggest margin of victory of any captain poll we have conducted so far this season in Gameweek 7.

The Manchester City man, set for a home fixture against Brighton, has 62% of the vote at the time of writing.

That’s not surprising considering that Aguero has averaged 11 points per home game in 2018/19, while the Seagulls have conceded five goals in their first three away matches.

The meeting between Chelsea and Liverpool has practically eliminated both usual suspects Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) and Eden Hazard (£11.0m).

They currently have 2.02% and 1.75% in the captain poll as a result of Saturday evening’s show-stopper event.

It is for this reason that Aguero is so far ahead in the vote.

Harry Kane (£12.4m) has come up in second place with 9%, which is still 53% lower than the Man City man.

Kane and his Tottenham colleagues do face a particularly appealing fixture in Gameweek 7 as they travel to face Huddersfield Town. The Terriers are one of just two sides yet to score a goal at home this season and they are yet to find the net from open play too. At the other end of the pitch they have been breached 14 times in six matches. Total domination is expected for Spurs, with Kane as the offensive focal point.

Ahead of the visit of a very leaky Fulham defence, Richarlison (£6.6m) looks set for a third-place finish in our poll. Before picking up a three-match ban in Gameweek 3, the Everton man had three goals to his name in the first two Gameweeks and appears to be a central attacking figure for the Toffees this season. He had more shots than any of his colleagues in the defeat at Arsenal so feels the most likely to take advantage of Fulham’s defensive vulnerabilities.

It is currently a close battle between Alexandre Lacazette (£9.5m) and Aleksandar Mitrovic (£7.0m) for fourth place, with 2.69% and 2.56% shares of the vote respectively.

Frenchman Lacazette has averaged 5.17 points per game so far this season and is preparing to host a Watford side with just one clean sheet in 2018/19.

Meanwhile, no player in the league has more goals than Mitrovic right now and Aguero is the only man to have fired off more shots than him in the opening six Gameweeks. Crucially, he’ll be facing an Everton outfit yet to keep a clean sheet this season.

The Gameweek 7 poll also showed early indications of Lacazette’s popularity compared to his esteemed colleague Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.8m). The Gabonese forward still remains in more Fantasy squads than Lacazette (11.2% ownership to 5.6%) but the latter has done marginally better in this week’s vote. While Lacazette has that 2.69% share, Aubameyang is below him on 2.07%.

Despite strong underlying numbers and a promising fixture in Gameweek 7, Romelu Lukaku (£11.1m) currently sits below both Salah and Hazard on 1.68% of the vote.

How risky is Mitrovic (C) vs. Aguero (C)?

Everton D is garbage and Aguero's minutes may be managed ahead of CL.

It's probably not really a big swing either way, right? Mitro likely to score and Aguero unlikely to get more than 2 without being hooked.

I believe Aguero's minutes will be managed as well. But still a better option than Mitrovic.

I find it funny, that they say that the ''captain debate'' is one sided, as if Aguero is the only rviable option. Imagine the scenes, when Aguero plays between 45-60 minutes (or gets benched) and Kane scores a haul.

Definetely not a one-sided debate. There are TWO good options this week. The statement is so biased. Clearly someone who don't own Kane who wrote this article.

I would argue that Kane, because of City's strength in depth, is as good an option as Aguero. I truly believe Agueros minutes will be managed. Unlike City, Spurs don't have a reliable attacker on the sidelines, who can replace Kane. City do. I would expect Jesus to play at least +25 minutes this week to give Aguero some rest before the UCL game and Liverpool away in gw 8

He showed improvement last week. Sometimes, FPL is about guessing who will hit form at what point. If he scores every second game, in bad form, I reckon he can do some carnage vs a leaky defence like Huddersfield. I want his captain points before he hauls, not sheep him in afterwards.

      2. FC Hakkebøf

3 goals in 6 games in PL for a guy, who is YET to hit form is not bad imo. Now facing one of the worst defences in the Premier League.

        1. MTPockets

Captaincy debates and Captain Polls in this place are mostly biased towards ownership. Kane is overlooked because most here don't own him. Even Sterling has been ridiculously left out of the Captain Poll for 3 weeks now.

I can see your point - I just don't think Liverpool or chelsea mids will have huge hauls over the next 2 game weeks.

Anyone considering an Aguero > Kane switcheroo next week?

Got the money for it & was considering, but I'm definitely going to want Aguero for Burnley at home in GW9 after he's had his feet up for two weeks. So it's got to be a no, unless injury happens.

Possible for me, but not completely certain. I have just enough cash for a straight swap though

Yeh I have as well. Think it could be worth doing with Aguero’s pitch time managed. I could do it this week for free but Aguero at home against Brighton.

Would think so. But personally feel Iwobi deserves a start.

Would you say it's a mistake to hold Mendy and save my FT? Still not sure what's going on there.
I have Bennett and Bissaka as cover.

I'm hoping he's back for BUR after the break so not wasting transfers

I wouldn't play whoever I got in for longer term, so not necessarily a mistake.

Cheers! I'll reassess next week when on 2FT.

    Bottomed...

Mendy -> Trippier for an extra hit (-8)? Got no benchcover....Pereira/Stephens/Mendy.

    Mendy + Dilva --> Trippier + Richarlison
    Mendy + Pereyra --> Vertonghen + Richarlison

Would rather get the last 2 out and the first 2 in but 0.1 short.

I need a cheap defender 4.5m maximum. I already have WB and Bennett. Do I double up on Doherty?

“He was injured six, seven months last season. Now he’s injured again. Every day he’s having treatment.

“He arrived late, that happens sometimes, in the last period a lot have arrived late because of the traffic. Manchester is under construction, the players arrive late. They have to drop their kids at school.....they should be here and he knows it. I spoke with him.

“I expect him back when he’s fit. Now he’s injured, he’s not a problem with physical condition, he’s quick. he’s injured and when he’s ok he’s coming back and when he decides to play he’s going to play.”
