Mohamed Salah and Benjamin Mendy have become less fashionable options to own according to the current top 10,000 Fantasy Premier League managers.

Both players have seen their popularity in that bracket fall going into Gameweek 7, as the Liverpool man blanked again and Mendy did not play once again.

We continue to look at how the top managers are lined up for the latest round of matches Gameweek 7 and how that compares to the overall trends.

Most Selected Players

The most popular line-up for the top 10k managers sees the departure of two main stars for the first time this season. Salah and Benjamin Mendy both made way this week for more popular options such as Richarlison (47.8%), Ryan Fraser (49.6%) and James Maddison (47.5%) in midfield. Meanwhile, Kieran Trippier (41.1%) and Ryan Bennett (32.7%) increased in popularity in defense. Suddenly Salah has become as a huge differential in the top 10k.

However, his overall ownership (in the sample) still makes him the second most-owned midfielder with 41.65%. His team-mate Sadio Mane features in the most selected team for both samples, as well as Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Marcos Alonso, Andrew Robertson, Eden Hazard, Sergio Aguero and Aleksandar Mitrovic; all in-form players.

The overall teams have a greater concentration of Harry Kane ownership, as many managers started the season with him already, which is the same story with David de Gea.

The stats suggest that we might be about to witness a large swin in player ownerships, with Salah and Mendy especially shaking things up.

Selling them has allowed more managers to contemplate investment in the likes of Hazard, Kane and Trippier as well as cheaper options from Wolves, Bournemouth and Leicester.

This, in addition to European competitions taking more of an effect, may cause the very successful early season “template” to be broken up and create more interesting different alternatives.

As expected, the Wildcard chip is the only one that has significant usage this week with 4.6% of the top 10k managers activating it. This raises the percentage of Wildcards used to 55.3%.

If we compare the chip usage of the top 10k and a sample of 50,000 managers outside of that bracket, we see that the top players of FPL are much more lenient in using their Wildcards early. This is perhaps what helped them reach that high rank early on.

Only 29.7% of the overall sample had activated their wildcards so far, as compared to the 55.3% of the top 10k.

Chip Usage

However, the overall usage of the Triple Captain and Free Hit chips are actually higher than the top 10k percentages. This might be an indication on how little an advantage those chips give earlier in the season.

As a result of those Wildcard deployments, it has now come to pass that the majority of the top 10k have used one chip. 47.3% of managers in that bracket have used that many so far, while 37.1% are yet to deploy any chip.

Meanwhile, the majority of overall teams have not used chips yet. 55.3% of these managers still have their chips intact.

Captains

When it comes to captaincy for Gameweek 7, both samples opted for Aguero as the top choice. However, the top 10k had much more faith in him with a captaincy record so far this season of 83.35%, while the percentage for the overall sample was less than half of that: 40.35%.

Overall players still saw Salah (13.22%) and Kane (12.82%) as important captaincy choices this week.

Have Kane thankfully and will wc after next week.
    Best 1 week punt?

    A. Pogba to Son/Moura
    B. Robertson to Trippier

Secondly - worth waiting until after CL? Unfortunately already lost Pogba value.

Hello everyone, need a little help from you guys.

I've had a decent enough start with an OR of 151k, which is a good start by my standards. Every captaincy choice has worked well but I was wondering whether I should be wildcarding before the next GW because I really think that not having Kane could hurt me. There are no glaring problems in my team, got a fit starting 11 who are giving me decent points.

Anyone on here who went ahead with it despite having a good start?

I wouldn't bother. It's one game. Free hit makes more sense, but again, wouldn't bother. Not that unlikely to see Son and/or Moura grab the goals

I took a hit to get Kane in for Huddersfield, but i’ll only be keeping for Cardiff fixture then I’m selling to get Salah back in.

In your case I would get Kane in this week then wildcard over the international break before gw9

I’d consider the free hit. I’m not definitely doing it, but as below considering. I don’t wanna tear up the team for a one week punt on Kane.

I burned my free hit last year early on purely to get Kane in and he blanked. Actually the team I already had outscored my free hit team which, on paper at least, looked an amazing team for the week. Honestly, I’d save it for a blank gameweek.

Not worth wildcarding for one player. If your team is sound then stick with it. You can always get Kane for a -4 if you're desperate ...... I assume?

Wildcard only if you needed to. If you can get Kane in for a hit of -4, or even -8, then it may be better than WC, unless you want / need to change 5 or more. I dropped from 122k to 765k from GW1 to 3, so I wildcarded into GW4 to get new 10 players inc Hazard & Alonso in and did it early to prices rises too. I would not wildcard just to get one player in.

Do not listen to what people tell you about when the best time to WC is. So long as you have a modicum of experience, you are the best person to judge this. People who wait for injuries or plan ahead for breaks or whatever are simply limiting themselves and allowing the game to dictate when they play the card. Remember a good WC can reap the benefits for weeks to come. Be frugal with your FTs and you can deal with a minor team crisis with a -4/8. Just play it when you believe there's big points ahead in it

Played mine this year with basically no injuries or non starters in the int break. Was s doing OK at 129,000. Now at 3K with Docherty still of my bench and Wilson and Fraser to play

Free hit seems like a great option for this week for those of us who have salah but not Kane.

With city playing pool and not wanting to offload those assets, get triple spurs, captain Kane and go balls to the walls for this week.

Then next week we can revert back to heavy pool

The risk: a sick blank GW again

It's an intriguing option, but I can't help but feel it'll end in tears. I don't really want to not have Salah and Aguero this week, despite them playing each other

I mean yeah it could backfire if the template does well. Something that can’t really happen during a blank.. so it’s not for the faint hearted. It could also be a huge week when everyone has aguero salah and co playing.

        It’s not just Kane.

Anyone else holding onto Salah? I'm going to be patient with him personally. After the city game its Huddersfield and Cardiff so it's a great captaincy option in both games if he finds some of his form.

You never know he could step up for a big the against City.

Yeah. There were a couple of great posts on here last night suggesting if you've kept Salah this far, you need to give him the next 5. I agree wholeheartedly and barring injury I'm going to stick it out. I'm keeping pace in my MLs despite leaving it late to get Hazard, so Mo as a differential against the likes of Cardiff/Hudd/Ful could be a great weapon

    Have 2FT, any ideas?

    Foster —- Patricio
Alonso Shaw Awb — Robbo mendy
Salah Dilva Maddison Rich — Stephens
    King Kun Zaha

    A: mendy + salah + king >> Doherty + Ozil + kane (-4)
    B: mendy + kun >> Doherty + Kane
    C: salah + king >> Fraser + Kane
D: something else? No idea how to bring both hazard and Kane

Hazard finally came in for mane last night for me. 3 weeks and 40 points too late unfortunately!

Think I may be taking my first hit of the season if any injuries crop up in the week.

    Ederson
    Alonso Wan-Bisaka Doherty
    Salah Hazard Richarlison Fraser
    Aguero Zaha King

    Hamer, Billing, Cook, Trent

    0.9ITB

Am I right in thinking I don't need a wildcard yet?

Same Haz scenario for me. Your team is fine, save your WC for when Bournemouth's fixtures turn.

Except the palace assets it is a really good team.

    Cech+Walcott ➡ Patricio+Sterling for -4 ?? Looks good?
(Already have Doherty, should I go for Ryan, when he drops to 4.4)

Dilva > Son (c) a good differential next week?

    Schmeichel
    Trippier AWB Alonso
    Mane Dilva Maddison Moura Hazard
    Zaha Aguero

    Stekelenburg TAA Cook Kamara

    0 ITB & 1 FT

You may as well captain Moura and buy a player who you will actually want to have even after next week

Desperately need to get Hazard. Only way I can do that without losing Salah, Aguero and Alonso is

    Bilva +Laca +Mendy +Robbo
    To
    Hazard + Vardy + Bennet +TAA
    for - 8

    New team will be

    Fabianski
    Alonso TAA Holebas
    Salah Hazard Richa Fraser
    Aguero Vardy King

    Hamer WB Bennet Stephens

Yeah that's how similar to how my time will look of I WC. Don't know if it's worth it though...

Repost, which 7.5M midfield recommended? (Have Maddison and Richarlison already)

    A. Fraser (1.6m itb)
    B. Moura (but already owned Trippier and Kane, don’t want 3 players from the same team)
    C. Felipe Anderson (Preferred option myself, but not too sure abt it)

Fraser and use the extra funds

Looks like Bilva is preferred by Pep. But I am getting rid anyway.

Aguero OR Sterling for long term?

I like Kun against Liverpool. Sterling will be booed as usual at Anfield.
No international games for Aguero...so will get the rest unlike Sterling

Everyone has richarlison but I fancy a punt

Have exact funds to do Dilva and Ings to Siggy and Arnie for free.

Would you pull the trigger or hold until after the European games ?

I think personally there are better punts than Siggy and you’re probably chasing last week’s points a bit there.

Arnie on the other hand I can fully get on board with. Had him all season, shipped him out this week on a wildcard just because of his injuries but regretting it a little if I’m honest.

      That's not a punt that's chasing points

Liked the look of Siggy though, got into the right positions, takes penalties although he missed think he will keep them

Richarlison didn't seem to feature much yesterday. Only seen the highlights on MOTD though.

Walcott looked in great form! That don't mean I'm getting him in though ha!

I feel like wildcarding with 'rage' just to get rid of double UTD defence but it is really worth it yet?

    DDG (Speroni)
    Shaw, Robertson, AWB, S.Cook (Duffy)
    Salah, Hazard, Richarlson (Cairney, Stephens)
    Aguero, Mitrovic, King

Why mass selling Salah? I have Hazard so I don't want to sell him. Maybe for a City midfielder AND Kane. Recommended midfielder under 9.7? Or save Salah?

Many did Salah -> Kane for GW7 and 8 with the thought of doing Kane -> Salah for GW9 and on.

Kane for GW8 and then Kane -> Salah in GW9.

    On w/c
    Thinking of doing -
    Salah - hazard
    Pogba - Sterling
    Aguero - kane
    Mitro - firmino

Should I keep Mitro and have no pool cover? Or do people think his scoring will subside after a fairly decent start
