Question Time is back as Fantasy Premier League managers face some tough choices ahead of Gameweek 8.

Many of you are still considering your Wildcards and with teams such as Liverpool and Manchester City facing some tough fixtures previously powerful assets are being brought under serious scrutiny.

Harry Kane is also forcing managers’ hands with his plum fixture against Cardiff.

So we’ve put your queries to another panel of FPL personalities…

Who’s on the panel this week?

Lejuan Basson – A South African-based elite FPL manager, who finished 24th in the world in 2017/18.

Ben Crabtree – The overall winner of FPL in 2016/17 and proud Evertonian who refuses to field Liverpool players!

WGTA (Nick) – One half of the tremendously popular Who Got the Assist? podcast and Twitter account.

Question 1 – Lejuan

What are the key Gameweeks this autumn for Wildcards? I hear Gameweek 8 is one to look at, but I can imagine around Christmas might be one as well? Provided you are not in a dire need to use the Wildcard, when do you recommend that it is used?

“I’m a big believer in using your Wildcard when you really need it and not having a set date.

“Last season, however, I used mine around the Christmas period and it worked really really well though so I do think that is a great time to use it.

“By that time it will be clear who the form teams and players are and with games coming very quickly it is an ideal time to make a big jump up the rankings.”

Question 2 – Nick

Is it an absolute must to have at least one of Salah, Mane or Firmino? You can basically always trust Liverpool to score, but none of them feels quite right for me right now.

“It has been a quiet few Gameweeks for the front three for Liverpool with many people looking to disinvest especially with the likes of Kun, Kane and Hazard all firing.

“Another tough fixture against Man City is up next which means it could be another quiet game.

“However after City, in the next four they play the three weakest teams in terms of goals conceded so far this season, Huddersfield, Cardiff and Fulham and if you don’t have Liverpool attacking options for those games it will be hide behind the sofa time.”

Question 3 – Ben

Which players do you think have started well but really dipped in form in the last few Gameweeks? I cannot watch Premier League matches so hard to decide.

“A few players that I still see in teams with varying levels of popularity that started well and have declined are: Wilson, Pereyra, Walcott and Moura. There’s reasons to persevere with some of these but I think it’s good to have an end point.

“Wilson’s fixtures are good for another three so it’s probably worth holding but not bringing in. Moura has a plum next fixture but still carries some rotation risk, so I’d give him one more game.

“Walcott and Pereyra for me would be at their end point now in terms of there being better options like Richarlison and Maddison or more differential players like Knockaert and Felipe Anderson.

“Two other more controversial names that started well and have declined are Alonso and Mitrovic. Alonso was never going to keep up scoring double figures every week and with defensive hauls coming from cheaper options he is moving towards needing some big returns, especially as expensive midfield and attack options are becoming more prominent. I wouldn’t rush to sell him but personally he opens a Sterling door for me which I’m keeping at the back of my mind.

“Mitrovic has been quite consistent so it’s a little unfair to add him to a list of players in decline. However, taking away his 16 points against a tired, off form Burnley, his returns would be 24 points in six games. Not great, and Fulham are looking like a team that are quite easy to play against. I think he still has potential to do well for the price but players get less bonus when their team loses and players who supply him may have diminishing confidence levels.

“Liverpool have two players that need a mention: Mane and Salah. Mane is in a points decline as his goals to shots ratio normalises and Salah has declined from possibly the best player in the world to a top player just lacking end product. There are other options that make these sellable, but you may want an easy route to get them back in as soon as you see a big score posted.”

Question 4 – Lejuan

Is it worth free-hitting this week to get in Kane for this week and keeping Salah for Liverpool’s upcoming good fixtures?

“I still think the best time for the Free Hit is later in the season for the blank Gameweeks.

“It saves you a lot of difficult planning later trying to field a full team during the blank Gameweek.

“Also the thought of your normal team doing well also makes me question whether using the Free Hit when you have a full team is the right choice.”

Question 5 – Nick

With so many budget defenders with good upcoming fixtures, who can we trust the most to keep a clean sheet? Is a double-up on Wolves viable?

“I currently own Doherty and Patricio and both acted as quality differentials at 7.2% and 4.3% current ownership respectively returning an eye watering 22 points this gameweek for very little investment.

“The upcoming fixtures in my view make a Wolves double up viable and Doherty a great budget option who also offers attacking returns.

“Elsewhere Watford are another team that have great fixtures and Holebas also offers both attacking and defensive returns though he is only one yellow away from suspension.”

Was determined to wildcard for GW 9 but with this team and 2 FT I'm not sure I need to just yet.... What do you think? Is there a better time to use it in the coming weeks?

    Patricio
    Alonso | Robertson | Trippier
    Salah | Mane | Bilva | Fraser
    Aguero | Zaha | Mitro

    Hamer | Wan-B | Billing | Peltier

It's fine apart from the very poor bench. Not worth a WC imo.

Almost same as mine. Did peltier to doherty last week. I have also Ings for Mitro. I am probably doing Bilva out with one ft and keeping wc.

One could argue that you should still be banned then. IMO, it's not the literal characters you are typing, but your intent. If you have not learned that your intent to belittle others is deemed unacceptable, then you should not be...accepted.

If you read on here on matchdays you can clearly see that its not ill intent that gets people banned. Some posters write stuff like "YESSS YELLOW CARD FOR X" without being banned. Mods just hate lol@ posts for some reason.

I would suggest you ignore what others do. Just try to be a better person. The lol posts are immature and lower the discourse if a fantasy strategy forum. You can try to elevate the discussion, or lower it. I feel like I'm your dad or obi Wan (wan-bissaka?) here. Jayzus. You have the power, Luke. Just behave.

You can't really say 'I told you so' because of another opinion that echoes yours (and mine)... we kind of have to wait until after it hasn't paid off before we can say 'I told you so'. If Kane bags a hattrick and they've captained him, who's to say it hasn't served them well?

Exactly. Even if this week it pans out (Salah and Aguero get 2 pts each, Kane gets 10-13) it's not a big return pointswise. When you field 11 GWers when the time comes you're almost guaranteed to get that many.

If Aguero plays close to 90 today, would you ditch him for Kane this week?

Would need a -4 (either downgrading Shaw to maybe Doherty or Wilson to Jimenez). Otherwise was planning to do Wilson out for Arnie.

Aguero is 100% nailed against Liverpool. Better long term fixtures than Kane and will get a long rest over the international break. A hit for Kane seems bad unless you are planning to wildcard soon anyway.

Had a poor GW this week (dropped from 12k to 39k OR) and foolishly activated my Free Hit whilst reeling. I’d alwaysplanned to keep it for a reduced GW. However, any help on the below team for GW8 would be much appreciated to try and get the most out of the FH and minimise damage. At the moment for FH I have:

    Hart
    Trippier/ Holebas/W-B/Maguire
    Sterling/Hazard/Son/Maddison
    Kane (c)/Firmino

    Bennett 1st sub

Anything I've overlooked and should change? Wanted some attacking coverage for City/Liv

    A) Save FT

    C) Ederson & Aguero -> Patrício & Kane(c) (-4)

Last year Malik from Egypt played the same team from GW1 to GW14 without one single transfer or captain change. Went from 2m OR to 9th in the world.

    His perma-team looked like this:
    de Gea
    Alonso, Valencia, Azpilicueta
Fabregas, De Bruyne(V), Sterling, Salah (C)
    Vardy, Jesus, McBurnie

    Begovic, Gámez, Brad Smith, Surman

If you had to create a WC dead team from now until the end of the season. Which players would you choose? And who would you perma C/V? 🙂

I think I would probably go:

    Ederson
    Alonso. Robertson. TAA.
    Maddison. KDB. Salah. Hazard.
    Arnautovic. Mitrovic. Murray.

    Hamer. Doherty. AWB. Billing.

For a permanent team, is Arnie not a bit injury prone? I’ve played around with a cheap forward line and those 3 big hitters in midfield once KDB is back - looks very good!

You are so right! Arnautovic is definately not a perma-player this season. Who would you have instead?

Might go for a 4.5 non-player and get a better 4th defender like Tripps or get a better 5th mid like Fraser. I might also downgrade Ederson to Hart and Hamer to Patricio as I’d want two playing keepers

            *4.5 non playing striker

            Very smart!

So something like this then (i have 103.7m)

            Patricio.
            Alonso. Trippier. Robertson. TAA.
            Salah(V). Hazard(C). Maddison. Fraser.
            Aguero. Mitrovic.

            Hart. AWB. Hojbjerg. Vokes.

Think Aguero will score more than Kane this season, dont you?

Yes, if he doesn't get subbed off too often because of his ankle injury problem. I like the look of your team, I just think two pool defenders is way too much. You could downgrade robertson to invest cash elsewhere after the IB since you've got TAA.

    Hi all!

Just popping in to mention pod 49 is up 🙂

This week we give our take on the “Fantastic Four” situation in FPL, involving analysis and contextual detailing of the key men in Salah, Kane, Kun and Hazard. We give our view on who gets on the podium. We then move on to our features section and take some questions.

    http://whogottheassist.com/pod-49-the-fantastic-four/

Cheers, good luck whichever strategy you follow!

Why is everyone avoiding Liv/City players? That game is going to end with at least five goals, maybe 3-2 city?

Carrying an injury as Pep said so I’d imagine he’s even more likely to be hooked early v Liverpool if he starts tonight

If he’s carrying an injury, why would pep play him? Really can’t see Aguero rested against potentially one of the biggest games of their season.

He won’t get hooked early away at Liverpool unless Man Coty have very healthy lead.

Alonso, Robbo and could be Mendy if he sorts his life out

      Alonso, Robbo, ??

Tricky on the last one - default would be Mendy, but not sure he's nailed. Maybe TAA/VVD
