Despite the earlier-than-usual Gameweek 8 deadline of 19:00 BST tonight, ten Premier League bosses showed a flagrant disregard for the concerns of fretting Fantasy managers by holding their pre-match press conferences on Friday afternoon.

There is only one place to start our team news round-up.

Pep Guardiola confirmed that Benjamin Mendy has trained today and is in contention to face Liverpool on Sunday, before delivering another bombshell by hinting that Kevin De Bruyne could feature.

Mendy’s return comes at the perfect time for Guardiola, who will be without Fabian Delph for the trip to Anfield. With Aymeric Laporte flattering to deceive at left-back in the UEFA Champions League tie against Hoffenheim in midweek, Mendy might be pressed into an immediate return.

The concern, of course, is that the City manager tends to not start Mendy and Leroy Sane in the same team when both are available: that combination was used only once in an admittedly injury-ravaged season in 2017/18 when the Citizens entertained bottom-of-the-table Crystal Palace.

Whether Guardiola would be so bold as to pit two attack-minded options in Mendy and Sane against Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson on Liverpool’s right flank is another question but given the dearth of alternatives available to the City boss at left-back (Oleksandr Zinchenko being the only other real option, with Danilo yet to feature this season), that eventuality might occur.

Guardiola could, of course, drop Sane to the bench and play Raheem Sterling as an inverted winger on the left flank as in Gameweeks 1, 3 and 4, though that would be very harsh on the German wide-man given his performances in recent weeks.

Ilkay Gundogan (hamstring) is a considerable doubt, meanwhile, which helps lessen the competition for David Silva and Bernardo Silva, but just as one City midfielder runs into injury problems another one returns to fitness to complicate the picture: whether De Bruyne would be deemed ready to start in a game of this magnitude, however, is open to debate.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are only sweating on Naby Keita‘s availability. The Guinean midfielder was stretchered off after 19 minutes of the Reds’ defeat to Napoli in midweek but Jurgen Klopp has revealed the problem (a back spasm) is not too serious and he will be assessed over the coming 48 hours.

Klopp confirmed that the rest of his squad were in “full training”.

Chelsea are also injury-free, with Pedro making his comeback in the Europa League match against Vidi on Thursday evening.

Also in action last night were Arsenal, who will check on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (illness) and Aaron Ramsey (attending the birth of his child) ahead of the trip to Fulham.

Their north London rivals have problems of their own, with Christian Eriksen (abdomen), Jan Vertonghen (hamstring), Dele Alli (hamstring), Mousa Dembele (thigh) and Serge Aurier (thigh) unavailable for the visit of Cardiff City.

Manchester United will be without Jesse Lingard, Marcos Rojo and Ander Herrera, though welcome back Ashley Young into contention for the match against Newcastle United on Saturday evening.

The Magpies, meanwhile, will again be without Salomon Rondon (thigh), but Paul Dummett and Federico Fernandez (both hamstring) are back in contention and will face a fitness test before the game.

In tonight’s encounter at the Amex, Pascal Gross once again misses out for the hosts, while West Ham might have Javier Hernandez available after illness. Manuel Pellegrini acknowledged that Marko Arnautovic has an underlying knee problem in Thursday’s presser, but the Austrian striker is expected to feature regardless.

Leicester will only be without Demarai Gray and Matty James for the visit of Everton, who will again be starved of Seamus Coleman, Andre Gomes and Yerry Mina‘s services; the sidelined trio are expected to return after the international break, however.

Fulham lost Joe Bryan (hamstring) and Timothy Fosu-Mensah (shoulder) to injury at Goodison Park last weekend and the two full-backs will be unavailable for Sunday’s fixture against Arsenal. Slavisa Jokanovic was coy on Tom Cairney‘s chances of starting, meanwhile.

Charlie Daniels is Bournemouth’s only injury doubt for their meeting with Watford. The Hornets have further problems at right-back with Marc Navarro now a major doubt and Daryl Janmaat already a medium-term absentee, so Kiko Femenia might deputise. Winger Gerald Deulofeu is back in contention, however.

Nuno Espirito Santo reported a clean bill of health in Friday’s press conference, while his opposite number in the home dugout on Saturday, Roy Hodgson, has only long-term absentees Christian Benteke, Scott Dann and Connor Wickham unavailable.

James Tarkowski faces a late fitness test for Burnley, while Huddersfield Town are sweating on Christopher Schindler‘s availability after losing Terence Kongolo to a hamstring problem.

Cardiff look set to be without Aron Gunnarsson again, while Southampton Mark Hughes has no injury concerns for the visit of Chelsea on Sunday.

Our weekly press conference round-up on YouTube is available to view here or in the embedded video below, while our predicted line-ups and more in-depth team news can be read here.

I would play Mendy. I am also undecided between Wan-B and Robbo. I also have Hennessey so it is a risky double or nothing call. Tough decision.

What The Match Facts Are Saying : Gameweek 8 Part 2

Submitted part 2 of What The Match Facts Are Saying about one and a half hour ago but don't think Geoff will get enough time to post it. So I am commenting it here.

    Long post alert though.

    Watford vs Bournemouth

Watford have lost only once in their last 14 meetings with Bournemouth in all competitions (W6 D7).

Five of the six Premier League meetings between Watford and Bournemouth have ended as draws, with Watford winning the other 2-0 in August 2017.

Bournemouth's only win in their last 17 visits in all competitions to Vicarage Road against Watford came in March 1997 in a third tier match (D9 L7).
The Cherries are to roll back the years.

Watford's Roberto Pereyra has had a hand in seven goals in his last eight Premier League appearances at Vicarage Road (6 goals, 1 assist), though he hasn't scored or assisted in either of his last two.

Watford striker Troy Deeney has had a hand in five goals in four league appearances against Bournemouth at Vicarage Road (4 goals, 1 assist), scoring a hat-trick in a 6-1 win in August 2013.

    Conclusion

    1. Match Facts suggest that there is a strong chance of a Watford win or Draw, with more chances of a draw.

    2. Pereyra or Deeney to score is a strong possibility

    Manchester United vs Newcastle United

In all competitions, Manchester United have lost one of their last 36 home matches against Newcastle United (W26 D9), a 1-0 reverse under David Moyes in December 2013.

Newcastle, who won 1-0 against Man Utd in February, haven't won back to back league matches against the Red Devils since October 1972.

Newcastle have won just two of their 42 away matches in Manchester in the Premier League (D12 L28).

Newcastle have lost seven Premier League matches when scoring first against Manchester United - only Southampton against Man Utd and Sunderland against Chelsea (eight defeats) have lost more times when scoring first against an opponent in the history of the competition.

Man Utd striker Romelu Lukaku has had a hand in 10 goals in 10 Premier League appearances against Newcastle (6 goals, 4 assists) and scored in this exact fixture last season.

Jose Mourinho has won all seven of his home matches against Newcastle in all competitions, seeing his sides score 18 times while conceding just once.

Rafael Benitez has won six of his last nine matches against Manchester United in all competitions (D1 L2), including two wins at Old Trafford in that time (4-1 in March 2009 with Liverpool, 1-0 in May 2013 with Chelsea).

    Conclusion

    1. Match Facts indicate a Manchester United win. Though Rafa Benitez has a nice record vs Manchester United at Old Trafford.

    2. Lukaku to get attacking returns is a strong possibility.

    Fulham vs Arsenal

Fulham last faced Arsenal in January 2014 in the Premier League, losing 2-0 - the Cottagers have won just three of their 26 Premier League games against the Gunners (D5 L18).

Arsenal have won their last two Premier League matches at Craven Cottage, with this their first visit since August 2013.

Fulham haven't kept a clean sheet in a home Premier League London derby match since beating QPR 6-0 in October 2011 - they've conceded in each of their 14 such matches since.

There have been four red cards shown in the last four Premier League meetings between Fulham and Arsenal at Craven Cottage (2 each).

Aleksandar Mitrovic has scored nine goals in his last 10 league appearances for Fulham at Craven Cottage (excluding play-offs).

    Conclusion

    1. Match Facts indicate an Arsenal win.

    2. Decent chances of Mitrovic scoring

    Southampton vs Chelsea

Southampton have lost their last six matches against Chelsea in all competitions.

They were beaten three times by Chelsea last season, including 3-2 at home in the league - having led 2-0.

Southampton's only win in 11 competitive matches against Chelsea at St. Mary's came in the Premier League in March 2013 (D2, L8).

Olivier Giroud has scored five goals in his last four matches against Southampton in all competitions.

    Conclusion

    1. Match Facts suggest that there is strong chance of a Brighton win.

    2. Giroud to score is a strong possibility.

    Liverpool vs Manchester City

Liverpool are unbeaten in 17 home matches against Man City in all competitions (W12 D5) since losing 2-1 at Anfield in the Premier League in May 2003.

Man City have lost three matches against Liverpool in 2018, losing in the Premier League in January and two Champions League matches in April. They've only lost four matches in one calendar year against an opponent twice before, doing so against Grimsby Town in 1936 and Spurs in 1993.

Last season's two league fixtures produced 12 goals, with Liverpool winning 4-3 at Anfield but losing 5-0 away.

Liverpool have kept a clean sheet in each of their last eight Premier League home games - only in February 2007 (nine games) have they had a longer such run in the competition.

Manchester City have lost only one of their last 25 Premier League away matches (W20 D4), though it was in this exact fixture last season (3-4).

Mo Salah has scored in 14 of his last 16 competitive starts at Anfield.

Salah has scored three goals and set up two more in his last three games against Manchester City.

City striker Sergio Aguero has played nine matches in all competitions at Anfield in his career (seven with Man City, two with Atletico Madrid), failing to score in any of those games, attempting just 11 shots and three on target.

Pep Guardiola has lost seven matches against Jurgen Klopp, more than against any other manager.

Guardiola is in danger of losing three successive away games against the same opposition for the first time.

    Conclusion
    1. Match Facts suggest that there is strong chance of a Liverpool win or a draw

    2. Salah to get attacking returns is a strong possibility.

    3. Match Facts indicate that Aguero will fail to score.

    4. Liverpool’s recent home record suggest that Liverpool will keep a clean sheet, but these two teams head-to-head record suggest that this will be a goal fest.

What do you agree with, and what do you not agree with? How much do you think this kind of information can help us make useful predictions for our teams? What are your biggest takeaways?

2 FTs, no pressing issues and nothing ITB.

    a) Robertson > TAA
    b) Ings > Jimenez
    c) Stephens > 4.4m

Give us a hand there with this lineup, lads:

      Patricio (Etheridge)
      Alonso - Bellerin - W-B (Robertson, Bennett)
      Maddison - Gudmundsson - Hazard (c) - Mane - Fraser
      Aguero - Vardy (v) (Ings)

Transfers done, just looking for subs help. Cheers.
