A week has passed since Harry Kane‘s (£12.5m) blank in Tottenham Hotspur’s 1-0 win over Cardiff City and the one-point return still rankles for those of us who backed the England striker with the captaincy in Gameweek 8.

Having been bought by over 380,000 Fantasy Premier League managers ahead of the Cardiff match, Kane now sits in around 31% of FPL squads at the time of writing and many Fantasy bosses will be wondering what to do with their premium forward in the weeks ahead – particularly given the fixtures Spurs have in the short term.

Our Scout Notes touched on Kane’s frustrating tendency to drop deep in the win over the Bluebirds and this positional analysis is something we have decided to explore in more depth for this latest members’ article.

What an absolutely baffling move. Binning one Striker who is underperforming on account of his position for another who is underperforming on account of being bereft of form. For a hit!

    Fabianski, Ryan
    Alonso, Trippier, TAA, Doherty, AWB

I wouldn't bet against Vardy scoring against Arsenal but I don't think he's getting the same service this season, judging from the old MOTD eye test.

I'd probably go C, but do like A.

Looks good, a bit risky going without a premium striker but I like that it’s something different. Would keep an eye on KDB news and whether he’ll be fit to play this weekend

Robbo would be my first choice defender, i think Bennett is a better option than AWB. I would probably do Salah>Mane as I think thats better value right now. Then put Kun and Maddison in. Ive got Lacazette over Mitro in my wc team but that might change...

Never posted my team on here before, but why not...

    Patricio Fabs
    Alonso TAA Pereira Doherty Wan-Bissaka
    Hazard Sterling Richarlison Fraser Billings
    Aguero Lacazette King

On a WC and had various versions of this now. Sterling to Mane and upgrade King. Downgrade King to Inga and upgrade TAA (but I got him at 5).

Makes me nervous going without attacking Liverpool but also think this sets me up well for the upcoming fixtures.

    Advice appreciated!

I would probably only go with one playing GK as rotating can be really frustrating - goalie on bench often outscores the 1st choice one with "easier" fixture. Considering you have Doherty I'd go Fabianski or Ryan and save cash.

Hi all! Nice article. Kane does not make the cut for me this season, unfortunately!

Would love feedback on my team. Considering moura to maddison/sigurdsson next GW. What would you change? 0,9 ITB, 0 FT.

    Ederson - Hamer
    Robertson - Mendy - Alonso - Doherty - AWB
    Mane - Hazard - Richarlison - Moura - Fraser
    Aguero (C) - Mitrovic - Kamara

Good team for next week id say. Maybe use ft next week to swap moura for maddison although would have a slight bench headache in midfield. You could then use the extra to use your next ft to do kamara>Jimenez. Just a thought

Regarding the article, it’s not really where Kane is positioned in the heat maps for the full 90 minutes of the game, it’s where he is for the key 5 or 10 minutes over the 90 when the ball is fizzing around the box ... he just isn’t there to take the benefit of crosses etc in the way he tended to be last season - he is not playing like an ‘out and out’ no. 9

As someone who is wildcarding and had 2 of those 4 bench players, it obviously leaves you exposed if a few of your stars don't play. When they all do, it's fine. But seeing Kamara sitting there doing nothing drove me mad when my stars had no shows.

Equally when Billings or Stephens come on and only get you 2, what's the point?

I'd just be a bit wary that Christmas isn't far off and inevitable rotation...

That's where we differ. Liverpool are my priority. I know I'm leaking points by having Bennett over Doherty but with double Wolves already, I can't just keep chasing points.

We've done this dance already. I believe that Liverpool investment now is key. You don't. We will see who's right in a month's time.

I don't think Salah investment is key.

I never said Liverpool investment isn't key. I think identifying and selecting their defenders is key and where the points are. I have Alonso/Mendy/Robbo/Docherty though so I may not be able to exploit this.

"Identifying and selecting their defenders" it's really just Robertson + TAA. And yes, you're right I think. Alonso > Robertson? Could pay off quite handsomely.

I know I want double Pool defense. As I said, it's almost a blessing I have a few weak picks because I can then remove them for Liverpool without feeling like I'm losing value. You can't bear to lose any of your mids, and it could really hurt you since you have no way of getting Mane or Salah if they start firing.

i'm losing a mid this week

I have two FTs and i'm going

                      Kane -> Mitro
                      Hoij -> ???

It's really just a case of whether I look to protect rank by going for Mane or go for the player who I think will score more points, which is Sterling. With BUR and SOT in the next 3 I feel City actually have the stronger fixtures

Yeah tough one. I think doing that move hurts your structure though since you then introduce a bench problem and hard to shift your players around for max value.

Potentially lots of desirable big hitters soon with KdB and Pool mids emerging.

BUR and SOT have conceded 2 x the number of goals in their away games than HUD have at home and CAR have away.

It's a problem i've planned. I'm going to rotate Fraser/Mad/Rich for a few games to maximise their points. I don't really see a better way to use the extra million that i'll be sitting on. Just going to let the transfers roll back to 2 then deal with the BOU swing and get in Arnie in GW11

I’d be wary of dropping Alonso with his fixtures after United, to be fair even the United fixture is pretty good

Nice article, I owned Kane last week and after watching the game, there was no dilemma of what to do next, Moura is indeed a massive problem for him & one I don't see getting fixed anytime soon.

His London derby record is good but not perfect as anyone who Triple Captained him in the double week last year will remember, West Ham stifled them and Kane blanked so it's probably wise to analyse the current situation for him/Spurs & look past any records.

No, Moura a problem for Kane being a 12.5m worthy good FPL option.

That's what the article is discussing, did you bother to read it?

Personally, no. I feel like a lot of the stats are misleading. Theres constantly comparisons between home and away where low sample sizes make the comparison insignificant. Also comparisons between "last 4 games" and "before the last 4 games" with similar problems. There is a general lack of understanding of when a certain statistic is useful, and when insignificant stats are presented as significant its just noise that you have to filter out. Its completely irrelevant that Kane's average touches in the final third has gone down from 21 to 20.8 or that passes received has gone down from 13 to 12.1. Those stats simply arent significant. Why even mention them instead of saying "the difference between this season and last season in terms of touches and passes received in the final third is insignificant"?

In this article about Kane, they dont tackle the real problem; where is Kane when Spurs are attacking? Kane could be as deep as he wants for most of the games as long as he gets into the box when Spurs attack, but he doesnt. He stays outside the box a lot waiting for cutbacks or random second balls to fall for him. This is a clear difference that anyone can see by watching the games. Its because of Moura taking up the foremost position and as long as hes playing Kane is a bad option. Simple as.

The stats that are useful are season samples of shots in the box, touches in the box, shots on goal etc. All of those simple stats are available elsewhere for free.

Hi - I used to have a link to a website that showed me stuff like who I'd captained most often, how may points from them, how many players per club, how far off the top 1, 1k, 10k, etc. But I've lost the link 🙁

Can anyone point me to it please?

Who do you bench this week?

    Patricio (just for context)
Robbo (hud), alonso (MUN), mendy (BUR), Doherty (WAT)
Hazard (MUN), mane (hud), dilva (BUR), Fraser (SOT)
Kun (BUR), Mitro (car), King (SOT)

    A) Fraser: could be out, so him (although we know what happened last time)

    B) Doherty: it's a shame but wolves double up not ideal this week

    C) Pep will do it for you by benching one of dilva or mendy

    D) alonso: this is my favourite right now. His numbers are down. Theoretically tricky game. But he could well come back to haunt mou.

    E) you eejit, it's clearly [other]

    Thanks.

Thanks. I agree Doherty should start. Transferred him in two weeks ago and he's been a beast. Recovered in my ML thanks to him.

The fraser call makes a lot of sense, and I'm sure if I benched trollonso he'd get a fifteen pointer. This injury probably a blessing.

Man I hate having a working bench.

Got massively burnt benching Fraser for his 18 points after last ‘IB injury’. His last few games would have returned way more if others could finish the amazing chances he gives them.

Holebas out for Watford so Doch could run riot.

Bench Mitro imo - CAR defence not great but been OK against the weaker teams - just keep him first sub for Pep rotations.

I don't get why just cos I ask questions on here like everyone else (scroll through the pages for evidence) all of a sudden I get accused of not picking my own team and all this rubbish just because I ask for an opinion on here. To be honest it's annoying and pathetic. So does everyone just pick everyone else's team cos surely if that's the case people must have about 20 teams each with all the different opinions?

The problem is that you are asking the same questions over and over again which leads to people just not bothering to answer. Additionally you rarely help out others. You are the one who needs to smarten their up instead of feeling sorry for yourself.

tbh it's tiresome watching people have a go at you.
absolutely no need for it. if they don't like your approach to the board then just ignore your posts but it just seems to be an automatic reaction for certain other posters to have a go at you regardless of what you post. Seems to be a constant carrying on from last season.
Change your username for a week and see if it happens still. Then you'll get your answer as to whether it's a bandwagon against you or the questions you ask 🙂

Hazard is the games highest scoring player and sterling is on a par with Aguero and higher than Kane and Salah.

People need to open their mind about this 'captaincy option' thing.

'whatever you do, don't blank' is just as viable/successful an approach as chasing big hauls. And incidentally Hazard is join top for single biggest hauls

Not convinced with TAA pick. TAA was rested the last week, don't know how many times he would be rested, with Lovern back, Gomez can play that position as well.

Midfield looks good, but that forward line up not convincing.
