Raheem Sterling’s 21-point haul against Southampton in Gameweek 11 has caused a disturbance in the Fantasy Premier League force.

There are plenty of managers who are weighing up whether he is a better option than the highly-owned Sergio Aguero. His 7.7% ownership means there is a potential opportunity to get him in now and use him as a powerful differential before the masses cotton on.

So we’ve compared the two individuals over the course of the campaign to find out which one is worth having and how Fantasy managers should handle Sterling’s recent explosion of points.

    Hennessey
    Robertson Alonso Trippier
    Hazard Salah Bilva Fraser
    Wilson Arnie Kun

    2 FT’s and 0.1 in the bank.

Hennessey + Bilva > Fabianski + Richarlison sound good?

Bilva is a great player but he isn't a great fantasy football player. He will occasionally get points but with other options available...

Just Hennessey to Fab and save. Richalison after the Chelsea game. Check who starts tonight for City to decide on Bsilva.

I have Bilva as well and am tempted to bring in Shaqiri this week seeing he didn't travel to Belgrade for political reasons, he'll surely start against Fulham, and then long term to replace him with either Anderson or Martial.
Still think Bilva will do Ok with KDB out again, choice is between Bilba who probably has a 20% chance of being involved in each goal by a team that score 4 or another player with a 40% chance of being involved in each goal by teams that score 2.

Gone the other way - decided to keep Aguero and Maddison as I both think they will get 6 ish points; Salah would therefore need in excess of 12 for it to be worth while.

Also uses up transfers going in to IB. I will be bringing in Sterling after that, though.

It makes sense to keep Kun and Maddison. Salah tbh disrupts the team balance plus will have to use both 2 FT to bring him in. Last week almost brought in Sterling but ended up saving the transfer, but i will go on and do it this week and bring in Salah. He was their best player yesterday and missed a couple of chances.

Best player used very loosely - they all looked very poor!

Salah and Kane both looked shy of last season last night - both had a hatful of chances and would have buried them this time last year,

Yes at least in the context of the game. They were poor as a team no doubt. The fear is Salah is owned massively, more so by top 10k. Most would captain him and if Klopp decides to rest Mane then we miss on Liverpool attack for the gameweek.

These are the fixtures where premium defenders earn their corn. I'm not worried at all about Robertson at Watford or Mendy at West Ham, and Alonso has a good record against Spurs.

Liverpool has scored 19 goals so far this season, only 2 more than Man Utd, and less than City, Chelsea and Arsenal. That being said, they have also played City, Chelsea and Spurs so far. Do we think they will catch up or continue to be behind those teams?

Does this make a Mane Salah double up less attractive, or will their nice run of fixtures until GW17 be the catalyst for more goals?

Mane and Salah for the Fulham game then one of Salah or Mane + Sterling after. Can't see them scoring 3/4 every other game as they don't press high this season, they have to build up from the back and don't have midfielders who are very good at making incisive forward passes.

Bournemouth is no easy win, nor wolves both away.

Pool Utd is a tough fixture despite Utds form this year

              Arsenal and City are tough

So Newcastle whom don't concede a lot are the only plum fixture imo

Don't get me wrong I expect them to win about 70% of those games but not by big margins and the way Mane/Salah are scoring are they worth the cash

But is anyone tripling up on attackers from any of these teams?

Looking at individuals instead, the leading goal-scorers are:
Hazard, Aguero and Aubameyang 7 goals each.
Sterling, Wilson, Mane, Richarlison, Kane and Murray 6.
Salah, Lacazette, Sigurdsson, Pereyra, Martial, Arnautovic, Mitrovic and Morata 5.

Doubling up on attacking players from the same team, the leading goal-scoring duos are:
          City: Aguero & Sterling 13
          Arsenal: Aubameyang & Lacazette 12
          Chelsea: Hazard & Morata 12

I just hope yesterday is a wake up call, Klopp goes mental and these 2 take it out on Fulham. I got Mane in last week specifically to double up with longer term thinking rather than Sterling. So much for long term thinking...

    9. The Rumour Mill
      • 8 Years
      7 years, 1 month ago

I think Klopp is aware that Liverpool are not performing quite as well offensively as last season (he has said as much in several interviews), but is pleased with the overall defensive improvement.

I think to rectify this and also integrate his new signings he has been playing around with different formations and players in different positions. Rotation to avoid fatigue has also come into his thinking a bit. So we have seen 4-2-3-1 come out against Southampton, Red Star at home, and Cardiff. We have also seen Sturridge integrated as a static CF, Shaqiri playing in midfield, Salah as CF, Mane on the right, Firmino as a number 10, etc, etc. I think he's effectively trying things out (personell and tactics), seeing what works and what doesn't, before it needs using in the business end of the season.

This naturally results in a bit less fluidity than we saw last season. Oxlade Chamberlain is also a big loss IMO, as he broke the lines from midfield with and without the ball, creating space for the front 3.

Therefore to answer the question, I think come the end of the season Liverpool will have scored more than any other team bar City and possibly Chelsea, once Klopp has figured out what he needs to and with players gelling better together with their new teamates and in new systems. For now though, its a bit of a work in progress. Salah + Mane for now until GW17 will I think perform well, but it may be outdone by Salah/City mid or Salah/Martial combinations. Hell, even Salah/Maddison, Salah/Willian or Salah/Filipe Anderson could get close with an extra 2.5m in the bank to strengthen elsewhere.

City have played: FUL, SOTON, BURNLEY, HUDDERSFIELD and cardiff for a total of 25 goals

Arsenal have played: cardiff, fulham and WHAM for a total of 11 goals

Liverpool have played: WHAM, SOTON, huddersfield, CARDIFF for a total of 12 goals

CFC have played: huddersfield, CARDIFF, wham, soton, burnley for a total of 14 goals

United have played: burnley and wham for a total of 3 goals

Spurs have played: FULHAM, huddersfield, cardiff and wham for a total of 6 goals.

I think its most interesting to look at how the teams fare against lousy defences, and particularly at home to those defences (Soton, Burnley, Huddersfield, Fulham, Wham, Cardiff). In and around those weeks are the times were targeting these premiums with transfers and captaincy

City having played 5/6 and 4 at home tells a lot about how good fixtures they have, but still, an average of 5 goals is superb.

Arsenal, CFC and Liverpool are pretty comparable while spurs and utd currently are'nt exploiting these "good fixtures".

isn't Salah roughly where he was this time last season - around the 5 goal mark? A couple of doubles this time last year and he became essential.
For me Mane has always seemingly been a player who has a few bursts of pts throughout a season but plenty of gaps in between.
Also Firmino just hasn't got going yet which is contributing to\ Liverpool's lack of goals.

I don't think anyone doubts that the liverpool front 3 have looked less clinical than they were at the peak of last season. Salah is the 6th best player in FPL so far, having performed poorly. Imagine how good his points will be when he performs at his best. Even w a poorer liverpool side, Salah is scoring points pretty well. Just imagine when they start to perform better offensively...

this looks like a team i would wildcard to, why would you waste a chip? what are you planning to do besides ditching bilva and possibly maddison and who for?

Comments and suggestions on my team please

      Hart (Boruc)
      Alonso Robbo Yedlin (AWB Suttner)
Salah (c) Hazard Maddison Kenedy (Hoijberg)
      Kun Arnie Vardy

Thinking of keeping my FT this week and bring in Richarlison and Jimenez for Vardy and Hoijberg next week? Open to other suggestions.

      Best of luck to everyone

Yep, good plan. If Mad blanks again you might consider booting him out as well, so good to save this week.

A Newcastle win and CS would be massive for you. I have Kenedy and am keeping fingers crossed that one of those speculative efforts goes in 🙂

You can save for sure. Or Bennett to Balbuena, Hart to Fabs/Ryan, Obiang to Diangana. Nothing urgent though.

I have your exact same team and pretty much same OR!
(save for Keepers and 4th/5th mids).

Save this week and let me know all your moves going forward!!

      Ryan Button
      Alonso Doherty TAA Balbuena Bennett
      Salah Hazard Maddison Fraser Billing
      Aguero Arnautovic Jiminez

      Should I:
      A Upgrade Mad to Mane
B Bank an FT and do Mad/Fraser to Siggy/Martial next

I often feel like David makes these articles to justify his own decisions 😛 anyone else get this feeling? This isn't a dig at David, I love the guy. Just an observation :')

the amount of stuff he can spit out about each decision i like to think it's just things which played a part in the decision, so pre rather than post.
do suspect some people do think with their teams a bit however, were a few predicting hazard to start and play 90 last gw for example

Quite fancy Murray over Jimenez.. the fixtures are much better. Money in the bank is the issue I guess

Bringing Diangana in as an a enabler. Is it too much to triple up on WHU??

Yes. 2 is enough but he is a 4.5 enabler then why not.

I would if I could. Will change Obiang to Diangana asap, but it would be for a hit right now. Have Fabs and Arnie and will keep until at least the NY. Diangana is also relatively nailed despite what some will tell you.

I wouldn't say so. Just look at it as whether you think Diangana will outscore other players at his price in games where you'll want to play him? If the answer is yes then it doesn't really matter if you triple up, in my opinion.
