Double investment in Liverpool’s midfield is advised in Gameweek 12’s edition of the Scout Picks.

We have painstakingly gone over the squad of players chosen by our panel of Paul, Joe, Az and Peter earlier this week to find a final XI.

After making some tough choices we have a side that comes in at £81.70m, with some room to spare within our budget of £83m.

Goalkeeper

Mat Ryan (£4.5m) gets the goalkeeper jersey this week after being tipped by three of our pundits. Peter was the only one not to name-check the Brighton shot-stopper. Ryan was only chosen as the best option by Az, with Lukasz Fabianski actually receiving the highest number of top picks, but we’ve decided to cover the West Ham defence elsewhere.

Defenders

Andrew Robertson was selected as the best defender by three of our panel this week, with Az opting for Joe Gomez instead of the Scot. However, with reports in the media suggesting that Robertson has been training on his own and not with the main group we’ve decided to go for a Liverpool defender more assured of a start in Virgil van Dijk (£5.9m). The Reds have conceded just one goal at Anfield all season and this week they face a Fulham attack that has found the net just twice in their last four away matches.

Ben Chilwell (£5.1m) gets the nod ahead of Leicester’s big home match against Burnley. It is the Foxes’ first at the King Power Stadium since the tragic passing of chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha last month. Only Manchester City and Liverpool have allowed fewer chances than Leicester in home matches so far this season while Burnley rank bottom of the league for shots on target in the last four Gameweeks. Furthermore, Chilwell has some exciting offensive potential with two assists in his last three matches.

Fabian Balbuena (£4.4m) is chosen as the West Ham cover this week as Manuel Pellegrini’s men travel to face goal shy Huddersfield Town. The Terriers have scored just one home goal all season and still have none from open play in front of their supporters. Meanwhile, Balbuena himself ranks third best among defenders for shots in the box so far this season so carries some goal threat.

Kiko Femenia (£4.2m) goes into our Scout Picks XI primarily to save us the money for particularly lavish spending in the attacking areas. However, Watford defence was still well-represented amongst our pundits with three of them selecting Ben Foster and two choosing Jose Holebas for their squads. The Hornets travel to a Southampton side with just one goal in their last six Premier League matches.

Midfielders

Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) was unanimously chosen as the best midfield option by our panel this week. It’s easy to see why as Liverpool host Fulham on Sunday, the side with the division’s worst defence so far this season. The Egyptian is streaks ahead on our current captain poll for Gameweek 12, having averaged 8.4 points per game at Anfield in 2018/19.

Alongside Salah is his colleague Sadio Mané (£9.8m) as our Scout Squad panel encouraged double Liverpool offensive coverage. Such is their faith in the Fulham defence which has conceded more goals than any other side season (29), having allowed more shots on target than every Premier League club apart from Burnley in the first 11 matches. Meanwhile, Mané may have struggled of late but is still averaging eight points per game at Anfield.

Eden Hazard (£11.3m) should be back in the starting line-up for Chelsea this weekend after getting a 62-minute run-around in the Europa League on Thursday night. Even though he has featured as a substitute twice at Stamford Bridge this season, Hazard has attacking returns in all but one of his displays in front of his own set of fans in 2018/19. For that reason, we are backing him to deliver once again, especially considering that Everton are averaging 1.8 goals conceded per away match so far.

David Brooks (£5.1m) was not actually mentioned by our Scout Squad panel but he has been selected by his namesake as an enabler. With so many premium assets squeezed into the squad, we needed a cheap midfield option with decent form and a fixture to boot. Brooks fits that bill quite nicely with three goals in his last five appearances and a trip to Newcastle in Gameweek 12, who have allowed the third worst number of big chances in home matches so far this season. Also, with Josh King still a doubt for Bournemouth, there’s every chance the Welshman could feature up front again.

Forwards

Such is the quality of Sergio Aguero (£11.4m) that he has made it into the Scout Picks XI despite facing a fixture that might look tougher on paper than it may prove in reality. For starters, the Manchester City forward is yet to blank at home this season and has seven goals in his last eight Premier League meetings with Manchester United. Aguero should get the full 90 minutes in this match after completing the 6-1 win over Southampton, and he is going up against a United defence with just one clean sheet this season. That’s why he got the top pick from Az and Peter while being tipped as the second-best choice by Joe.

Marko Arnautovic (£7.1m) rounds off our starting XI by earning himself a second consecutive appearance. He rewarded our faith last week with a 12-point haul in the win over Burnley and we feel he will be on the scoresheet when West Ham travel to Huddersfield on Saturday afternoon. Alvaro Morata is the only player to have recorded more shots on target than the Austrian in the last four Gameweeks. Furthermore, on his last visit to the John Smith’s Stadium, Arnautovic came away with a goal and two assists.

Substitutes

Kieran Trippier (£6.3m) nearly made an appearance in the Scout Picks selection after receiving backing from all four of our pundits. The Tottenham right-back has shown great consistency this season, recording one of either defensive or attacking returns in seven of his 10 Premier League appearances since Gameweek 2. This week Spurs travel to face a Crystal Palace side with just two goals in five home matches so far. However, he was a little too expensive to fit in and we worry a little about the Spurs defence after a shaky finish at Molineux in Gameweek 11.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson (£6.0m) has three goal involvements in as many away matches for Burnley and seems the most likely to do well for them in Gameweek 12. His set-piece responsibilities underpin his appeal and his style of play means he does well for bonus too, collecting five in his last five matches.

Joe’s man Danny Ings (£5.5m) rounds off our list of substitutes given his impressive individual figures over recent weeks. The Southampton man has actually had more shots in the box and efforts on target than Salah and is the only Saint to have actually scored in the last six Gameweeks. A home match against a Watford side with just one away clean sheet thus far seems the perfect opportunity for Ings to continue his run.

Community Champion

Representing the community against the Scout Picks in Gameweek 12 is Sam Goddard aka Boleyn Boy. He has opted for a 3-4-3 formation of Schmeichel; Bellerin, Rudiger, Mendy; J. Murphy (Cardiff), Salah, Ozil, Anderson; Ings, Kane, Firmino.

The community member who beats our picks by the biggest margin over the campaign will win a £100 Amazon Voucher and a place in our Contributors and Moderators League for the following season.

The Scouts have won seven and lost four so far, with Mince n Tatties losing out 50-37 in Gameweek 11.

fclackless‘s winning margin of 33 points (77-44) in Gameweek 10 is the current target to beat.

Does Ragaboly still contribute here? I remember Mark and co being rightfully very annoyed at a site I won't name that just stole their format and repackaged it. Well I hope they call out Ragaboly for his blatant theft of the hard work of others in ff community. That's a s**t go man. Do your own original coding or at least reach out to those who's work you stole and ask permission or even to collaborate.

      What??

I haven't used a single line of code from anyone, instead I have written tens of thousands of code lines over a period of seven months and spent uncountable hours debugging small issues to make something that helps the community. I really don't understand what you're referring to....

This comment made me really sad. You have no idea how much coding I did for all the articles on FFS and then livefpl, which is essentially collecting all pieces of code I wrote for FFS articles. I have been writing my own python code for analyzing the top 10k starting last season and Mark himself saw and knew what I was doing and hired me. We agreed on all different areas I could be exploring with my programming capabilities and I built it piece by piece over a very long time.

I also made a unique effort to give people an exact OR update and used to post that after the end of gameweeks last season. Many people liked it and so I thought of building it as a website so that people can access it easily. No other website actually does nearly half the computations I do in livefpl, I constantly collect more than one million teams after deadline and sort them real time according to live points.

Then, I thought of adding more tools to help people visualize top10k and leagues. So I started putting together the code I am using to analyze top10k for FFs and built all the other tools in the website.

I am not sure what work you think I stole tbh. If you mean FPLdiscovery, those are the pioneers in the top10k stats. I use their website as an fpl manager all the time. However, their code is not even public for anyone to use. I have no idea how they get their statistics. I built my own statistics using python to be able to analyze things for FFS. I have been writing articles about it every week, and you didn't think it was stealing, because it is not. I built my code and my own implementation to look at all the data FPL provides. Just because FPL discovery does something doesn't mean no one else can look at it using their own code, especially that i am looking at things from a slightly different angle. I am providing an EO based picture to look at players and how they affect the average in a simple but interactive format. I have been publishing articles here with exactly the figures and numbers you are now saying I steal? I am not sure how anyone would even think that it is possible to look at a site like discovery and then know the code they are using. What discovery and my site provide to users is just a graphical interface hiding thousands of lines of ugly code. So it's not even possible for me to look at that and "steal" it.

And I actually went way beyond this and worked on live autosubs (no website gives you that), live leagues and league history, and statistics. Just basically any tool i could think of and was able to implement on python. I am seriously saddened that I would be called such names especially from my home community that saw me develop my interest in fpl programming and tested with me one tool after another here in the comments over time...

Again, Mark is aware from day one how I am developing the code and he helped giving me ideas about stuff to implement. TorresMagic too knows how hard I am willing work for the community without anything in return as I spent a huge amount of time building a behind the scenes python app to help him run LMS smoothly.

I can show you a collection of the python files I developped and every one of them has at least 2000 lines..

First I did not mean to imply you stole code. I see now I wrote it clumsily and it can be read that way. I know you didn't and couldn't steal fpldiscovery's code. You are clearly a very good programmer. What you stole was content and ideas. You have the same samples and statistics as fpl discovery along with other tools from anewpla and have aggregated them in your own format. 99% of what you have done is take their original ideas and work and essentially reverse engineer it and claimed it as your own. I'm not saying it wasn't difficult, nor time consuming, nor original code written by you. I'm saying it's poor form to just rip off others ideas and work without at least consulting them. It's intellectual property. It's no different to somebody making a website and instead of coming up with their own content they just copy fantasy football scouts article themes, tools and services but repackage them with different titles and different format. They still spent lots of time writing the articles and coding the tools. This happened and rightfully annoyed the scouts. It's not technically plagiarism but it's insulting to a very successful website like ffs and just plain mean and rude to a guy with a blog that he made for a community.

Okay let's look at what my website provides.

The main feature in my website is the exact OR and that is extremely original! The idea and its implementation is very new and I am also sure most programmers won't find a feasible way to do this in real time. (fffix gives an estimate for OR, not the exact calculation) So you can't just say 99% of the ideas are copied!

Also, live autosubs, again completely original. No website or tool gives information about exact autosubs that are yet to happen. Now you can see as soon as one player doesn't play who will replace him exactly.

Third, picks and chips figures, those are all my ideas that i have been using in FFS for months. the exact figures there are used in the articles here. All the figures are original and unique.

Fourth, League history, no tool gives you information about a mini league in the past, again original idea and implementation.

Live leagues and games, many tools offer live games and leagues, each with their own taste. I am just adding my taste. Nothing very spectacular about live games and leagues, that's a very obvious thing to do, just commin sense that people would like to see the leagues updated lively and the games with the bonus, it's not an idea I stole, just common sense. I am however adding my taste to these, by including new information like the EO of every single player in the live games tab (this is original), like the color codes for easier looking at data, and updating leagues with possibility if looking at rivals teams all at once. Also I am including 500 teams per league, no tool could reach that high number for free.

Then, league statistics where you can see stats of your chosen mini league, I don't know websites that do that. Maybe there are, but it's again a very common sense thing to include in a website, so that you can monitor your league collectively.

Those are SEVEN features of my website out of 9!! And then you are claiming I am just stealing ideas.. All of these are either original or very common sense to include, and it's okay to have competing sites each trying to implement things like leagues better.

Now the remaining two features are live top10k and live overall. I agree that fpldiscovery provides data in this arena. However, I am not reproducing what they are doing, fpldiscovery has so many data in extended spreadsheets and they are perfect. What i am doing is just something to my taste that shows minimal information for us to look at and know which players are important and how different chip users are performing live. Also my overall sample is 50k which is bigger and I also use this sample anyways for my rank calculations so the website already scrapes all the data necessary. Why not include a simple page to look at top10k EOs and chips? I have been using these again for FFS all the time.

Also, all what is common with fpldiscovery is the live average mainly. This is again not like a wow idea that no one could think of, the whole problem in it is how to implement it actually. But looking at the live average is a very understandable requirement. All what I did here is give another implementation of it that has minimal data for visibility. I can't see any stealing here, neither does Mark who hired me to write articles about top10k stats and captains etc, which is something discovery gives anyways. Neither does FFS team who I contacted to collaborate on this website and then contacted to show them what I reached and how we can use it for the help of the community. I didn't wanna include anyone else in the conversation but i saw comments implying I "fooled" Mark and FFS.. Nothing i am doing I didn't talk with Mark ot David about, I will never betray my website, FFS.

So again, most of my ideas are original although they didn't need to be btw, it's okay for someone to compete with an existing technology. And as far as fpldiscovery is concerned, I built my live top10k page in a minmal way so that both websites are serving different purposes. I didn't and won't reproduce all their tables. I am just offering another visual angle at the data, showing the important players in terms of EO and how they are doing so far, very easy to read and very minimal. Discovery is always there for every other table.

My website could have been just OR and it would have been already a lot of work. I only wanted to help the community with everything I am capable of including other original ideas and providing different angles of existing tools.

Comparing this to someone stealing the format and content of FFS is very unfair btw!

You have tools like anewpla, fix, discovery, betterfpl, fplguru, fplmystats, fplstatistics and many others that try to implement whatever tools they could. Many of the tools are competing and that's fine, it's all about what value you are adding to the user. For instance, making you look at your rivals' teams in an easier way is a valid concern for us. The tools each tries to do that better. Predicting price rises, again a valid concern, how to implement it that's the whole business. getting the live overall average is a valid concern, implementing it is the issue and it makes sense to have different minds tackling it different ways!

Meanwhile stealing article content that include stealing opinion pieces and or data that you didn't generate, that's not the same thing at all!

This cloud of words seems calculated to distract from the core issue: you saw someone else's idea, decided you could tweak it and make it better, and proceeded to do so without a word to that someone. And that someone is a long-standing member of the Community.

It's like the plot of "The Social Network", where Zuckerberg knows he's stealing the idea, but keeps hiding behind the fact that it's his code and it was better code. There might not be anything illegal about it, but it's a jerk move. Surely you knew that you were making something that might push FPL Discovery aside, but rather than consult the originator, or avoid those original ideas, you just went ahead. I think you deserve some blowback for that.

Stealing an idea from a friend that has spoken to you in confidence is a world away from taking something that is accessible freely in the public domain and coming up with ideas to improve and build on it.

Honestly, I think it's incredible that people look to stifle innovation so much. If FPLD isn't a commercial venture, then who cares if it's replaced or improved by something new for the good of the community? If it is, then it's fair game anyway and it's up to them to stay relevant.

Oh stop! Again with the distraction. Nobody sought to stifle innovation. The clear message here is this: The creator of FPL Discovery IS a friend of FFS and has been for years. He has done nothing but share his ideas with his "friend" FFS. Yet when FFS wants a shiny new version of those very ideas, it does not talk to its "friend"; it does not offer to collaborate with him or invest in his ideas. Instead, it quietly develops its own version.

This is not about stifling innovation, its about common decency among "friends".

If that's not stifling innovation I don't know what is. Bang out of order.

Also - don't see anything on there suggesting FFS is endorsing the site in any way. I don't know anything about the relationship between FFS and FPLD, but not sure it's appropriate to drag that into it at this stage.....

It is good. He is a very good programmer. Shame he steals ideas from a good bloke I've chatted with for years who provided an original and unique service for free to the community. He chose not to partner with Ffs. Looks like they replaced him.

I knew you were not too bright when I read your first toadying reply to Mark. Now you are just proving it. Mark's own post endorses the site and its maker's activities.

To be clear: I am shaming him and FFS for not consulting, offering to collaborate, or otherwise behaving to a Community member in a decent manner. You are willfully distorting that message in order to shame my free expression.

                Exactly!
Ragaboly you can sit there and put a pr spin on it by talking about market competition or how you've used a 'different angle" than fpl discovery but it doesn't change a thing. If you are looking to prove you haven't done anything legally wrong then don't bother I never suggested you did. Taking fpl discoverys content to bundle in with other stuff (some original some not) is a sh*t go. We are all part of a fantasy football community. The comparison with atfpl is spot on. Also reminds me of when that bloke started totalfpl ripping off fiso's crack the code. The fiso guys even invited him to collaborate but he refused and he just went hard on the marketing in the community and monetised asap. He wanted to cash in on their idea simply because he saw it and realised he knew how to copy it. That's exactly what you are doing. Your live stuff must be network and resource intensive. Is Ffs financing? If so it's like Google stealing the idea for an app that someone built for passion/hobby and crushing the original.

Mark I know he used his own code. I didn't mean to suggest otherwise. I am talking ethics and common deceny not copyright law. I wouldn't expect you to get that given the you treat the older community that helped you build this site to what it is today through investing time helping users in the comments, organising community tournaments, buying paid memberships when that started purely to support the site, and many offering their services to you for writing, modding, h2h leagues etc.

Just to be clear. We don't "endorse" Ragabolly's site more than any other, I'm just saying its all good he's published his work.

He came to us and applied for a writers role and offered to write some metrics stuff for us and we took him up on it. I had no idea he was about to publish a site - it's a total surprise to me! But fair play.

And yes, he does cover similar stuff to FPL Discovery but we've often give them a nod for their stuff on the ScoutCast etc.

The only difference here is that Ragabolly has written some articles for us so he's a "contributor" - we're no more affiliated to his site than FPL Discovery which is another great site and the original metrics site. Those guys have also done great work and have done so for many seasons.

And again, Ragabolly's ventures and his decision to publish a site have nothing to do with me or FFS, you just saw him post and published here first.

Yeah, you're miles off here Blue Lion. Ragabolly wrote our articles using the data he compiled form his code. We just published his work before he had published his tools on a website.

Now he's sharing up his work more widely but will hopefully remain a contributor - offering insight - on our site.

Good luck to him and his site and long may he continue to provide metrics for us all.

I think you are out of line with this attack on Ragga BLB.

You have no evidence of theft of intellectual property and it sounds like you are jumping on a conspiracy theory bandwagon.

I know feck all about coding and such matters but it looks to me that Ragga has taken an idea and made it better.I call that innovation and it has been a vital part of human development since we climbed down from the trees.

If the man has set up his own site then good luck to him,he is not the first to set up a fpl site and he sure as hell wont be the last.

His articles and contribution have been top class and i am looking forward to seeing more from Ragga in the future.

Libel: a published false statement that is damaging to a person's reputation; a written defamation
              -------------------------------------------------------
              I quote:

"Well I hope they call out Ragaboly for his blatant theft of the hard work of others in ff community. That's a s**t go man. Do your own original coding or at least reach out to those who's work you stole and ask permission or even to collaborate."
              -------------------------------------------------------------
Accusing someone of stealing (if they haven't) seems pretty libellous to me.

Mate, your original post (posted multiple times, I may add) was bang out of line. You may think you're sticking up for a friend, but it's you that's stepped over the line given the wording you've used.

There's genuinely nothing wrong with someone taking an idea and trying to better it. Yes, it may put someone's nose out of joint, but they need to bounce back and produce the next out-of-this-world feature.

I respect you for sticking up for a friend, there's just ways and means, that's all.

If (and I say 'if' as it has to be proven) RB has stolen some code or other IP then that is bad.

If RB has just done something better than FPL Discovery then that is just hard lines on FPL Discovery. Happens all the time - VHS outdid Betamax, VHS got replaced by DVDs, Halogen light bulbs got replaced by LED light bulbs etc.

You can go on about community all you want - but business is not about friendship. FFS does not owe any member or contributor anything other than what they have stated in their website terms (e.g. privacy) and membership terms.

I like FPL Discovery - it is very informative. However, that does not prevent someone else doing what they do better, provided they have not stolen something such as IP from them.

          Hazard Mitrovic Maddison
          to
          Mane Dilva G.Murray

Somebody give me some feedback because this could go several ways...

I’m considering a similar move but do you think it’s likely that Sterling scores anywhere close to Salah this GW?

So Richarlison flagged now but why wasn't he flagged earlier since this foot injury has been known about all week. In the interim he has increased 0.1 in price but if he was flagged it wouldn't of happened. Who's accountable for the non flagging of richarlison?

This is clearly corruption. Obvious injury but no flag at the start of the gw so he rises in price. So who makes these decisions on whether to flag a player who has an injury or who is in doubt.

          I'm stumped:
          Patrício
          Mendy, Robertson, Alonso,
          Hazard, Salah, Barkley, Richarlison, Fraser
          Mitrovic, Agüero

          Hamer, Wan-Bissaka, Kamara, Doherty

Save my one FT or Mitro out? Arn in would be for a hit, 0.3 short.

          Thoughts?

          Begovic
          Alonso Robbo Doherty
          Salah (c) Hazard Maddison Fraser
          Aguero Arnie Wilson

          Foster AWB Bennett Hoj

Have 0.9 itb and 2ft. Want to get rid of Maddison but not sure to who? Felipe, siggy, other?

Save FT? (And hope Richarlison plays!)

          Patricio
          Mendy - Alonso - Robertson
          Salah (c) - Hazard - Richarlison - Fraser
          Aguero - Arnautovic - Ings

          Hamer - Hojbjerg - AWB - Peltier [1FT + 0.7m ITB]

save FT, and decide whether you want Hojbjerg or AWB as first sub. Team looks good.

Thanks, lads. Currently on AWB as most others in my ML have him as first bench too, so bit of a hedge I suppose.

          Not a Maddison replacement question.

          My team...

          Fab
          VVD - Luiz - Laporte
          Salah - Hazard - Fraser - Richarlison
          Ings - Aguero - Arnie

(Patricio - AWB - Bennett - Maddison) likely AWB coming on for Richarlison.
1ft and 0.2 itb - was planning to roll the transfer to have 2 for the break. May still do so.

Main rival in my ML has...

          Alisson
          TAA - Alonso - Mendy
          Barkley - Salah - Jorginho - Anderson
          Lacazette - Aguero - Arnie

          (Patricio - Doherty - Neves - Duffy)

Bearing in mind my formation will likely be 433, do I have a chance to close the gap on him this week? I'm guessing not, but I don't want to kneejerk a transfer; am I better to roll it and continue to play the long game? Or can someone see an obvious transfer that would give me immediate and longer term advantages?

Sorry bout the long post, bricking it here!

Personally think you're good as you are. No change you make will make a huge difference - there's a long way to go!
Barkley Jorginho and Anderson could easily only get 8 points between them.
