The long-awaited first round draw of the 2018/19 FFS Cup took place this evening and we can reveal some of the stand-out fixtures that have been arranged.

Over 1,900 managers applied for the 1,024 places available in the first round draw, with the Gameweek 12 qualifying score set at 58 (after hits) and an overall rank of 27,117 or better needed for those hitting that total exactly.

Ten former champions – Gribude, MCH, Joe, 2EyedTurk, Leon Harris, Ninja_Fit_Saints, Wild Rover, Mark, A Manager Has No Name and donnellyc – were exempt from the qualifying score and received a bye upon submitting their applications.

Che was the lucky manager to squeak through in 1,024th place, though after four top 10,000 finishes in ten seasons he is clearly a Fantasy boss with pedigree.

Chaballer, who himself has two finishes inside the top 1k, was desperately unfortunate to miss out with a Gameweek 12 score of 58 and a current overall rank of 28,951.

Onto the ties themselves, starting with our previous winners.

Wild Rover, who has an overall rank of 73,081, has the toughest draw of the former champions based on their opponents’ current OR, with Christobisto currently sitting in 3,562nd place.

Gribude doesn’t have it easy either, with MARTINB – nicely positioned in 9,937th place – standing between him and a place in round two.

A Manager Has No Name (current overall rank: 27,117) will face Alan the Llama (86,776) for a spot in the next round, 2EyedTurk (373,752) takes on Harvard (109,141), Leon Harris (91,032) is up against cobblers304 (23,549), MCH (16,986) is paired with Madeinireland (69,950), and donnellyc (76,353) has to overcome River Template (149,140).

Fresh from his maverick eight-point hit in Gameweek 12, Mark has been drawn to face Buzzy, who sneaked into the draw with a score of 59.

Joe would have sailed into round one regardless of his bye and he is up against a Fantasy manager who, like him, has a top 1k finish to his name: stripeless.

Ninja_Fit_Saints has had a struggling start to 2018/19 and is sat just inside the top 2.5 million. Dugarry_21, his opponent in round one, is, by contrast, sitting pretty with an overall rank of 6,994.

The tie of the round is perhaps Bulldogs Fc – currently ranked 20th in the world, the best among the 1,024 entrants – against Adz87, who was as high as 114th in Gameweek 6 but who has since slipped back to a still-commendable 2,689.

Stoichkov#8 versus Jarvish leaps off the page, while first out in the draw just so happened to be editor DavidMunday815, who takes on Tottispicks.

Fellow Scoutcaster Luke – aka d1sable – opens with a tie against srini venkat, currently ranked 12,866th in the world.

Numb, who topped our Live Hall of Fame earlier this season, has to overcome MLock1984 (243,115) in order to progress to the next round.

Serendipity (4,885) has the unenviable task of taking on our current Live Hall of Fame leader, Gowanyalanger, who sits in 123rd place.

The full draw can be viewed here.

If i can ride out the Mendy injury with my bench and take a drop or two is Trippier the best replacement if he is back fit in GW15?

    1. Pinturicchio10

She probably is yeah but anyone buyers will need a solid bench option as he's bound to miss gametime.

He tempts me as well. But his risk of rotation over winter is a risk for me. Are you tempted to put a 2 week place holder in place?

Depends on any genuine IB injuries as I have used my FT already.

          Alonso Robertson Doherty
Salah (c) Hazard Sterling Richarlison Fraser

      Pat, Fos
      Robbo, Alonso, Doherty, Mendy, 3.9
      Sal, Haz, Richa, Deulofeu, Kayal
      Ku, Arnie, Wilson

      2FT, 0.0ITB

Have decided to upgrade midfield so can't replace Mendy with Laporte.Which of the cheaper options is preferable?

Digne - give me exact funds for Wilson->Jimenez and Deulofeu->Martial

Balbuena/Dunk/Yedlin - leaves some change to upgrade that 3.9 to AWB for the upcoming fixture madness (in GW14 obviously)

Digne has great passing ability and will benefit from Everton playing 3 at the back with Mina's return.

Balbuena is top for shots and with a great schedule. Except West Ham have not been big on clean sheets so far

Yedlin also with a great schedule, a bit more likely to assist and less likely to score than Balbuena. Clean sheet potential probably same

Dunk - good short term schedule, but will need replacing in 4 gameweeks. Also i feel like Brighton's defence overperformed at home the last few gameweeks.

So far I'm leaning to Balbuena. What do you guys think?

        RE: Balbuena.
Forgetting the shots stats, have you actually seen him play?
        I wouldn't transfer him in.
And I'm a West Ham season ticket holder. 🙂

Haha, i guess i have to trust your opinion, then.
It's actually surprising that with Fabianski in goal West Ham don't have more clean sheets

It is. I have Fab in goal but only for the save points!
We are not keeping a clean sheet any time soon.

Why? Poch loves to rotate his wide backs especially now with CL. Plus he is a terrible defender.

Trippier is not a terrible defender, and his attacking threat and set piece involvement make up for any defensive short comings.

He's great for next 3-4 gameweeks, yes. But in GW17-18 they have Man City and Spurs.
GW 18 is particularly challenging: Wolves play Liverpool, and even Crystal Palace play Man City

Cheers. They also give me great options through December and a very powerful bench without weakening the first 11 in any gwk. Premium defender in for Mendy in gwk 14 then decide on Kane for gwk 15. Should be an exciting 6 weeks or so 🙂

I think they are possibly differentials for a reason. Young sets up a few chances so gun to my head - him.

2 Liverpool and 2 wolves at the back is very risky. Especially with Pool needing a tough tough victory in UCL mid week.

How do we see the England Croatia game going tomorrow? Bookies have England as odds on favourites which surprised me.

That’s just due to loads of England fans lumping on and being patriotic.

Odds are set by the amount of money that goes on each market.

I do fancy England to win though regardless.

                              Half correct

When the original odds are compiled, they are based on a probability %, with the excess over 100% when you add the %'s of all the outcomes together being the profit margin on that market (also known as the over-round). However a bookie will also take into account how popular they think the selection will be.

To work out the probability %, you work out how much you would need to stake in order to get a total return of £100 (including winnings).

                              For example:

                              Evens = £50
                              6/4 = £40
                              3/1 = £25
                              9/1 = £10

                              In this example, the total is £125. So £125 / 125% - 100 = 25% profit margin.

The odds then change based upon how much is being staked on that particular outcome, and adjust all odds accordingly to reduce their exposure to risk on a particular outcome, or to attract bets on the remaining outcomes.

Too much time on my hands this morning 🙂

Would you go Keane/Digne over Laporte if it lets you afford Aguero to Kane for free in GW15?
