The new Fantasy Premier League template among the top 10,000 managers appears to be suffering at the hands of the previous one, especially as Mohamed Salah delivered once again on Friday night.

Recent Gameweeks have seen a shuffling of the most selected players, many who have been steadily performing since the beginning of the season.

There had been notable shifts of top 10k ownership for big hitters such as Salah and Eden Hazard, as well as expensive defenders like Marcos Alonso and Andrew Robertson.

The new template largely preferred other emerging options like Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane, Harry Kane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

However, with Salah and Hazard hitting form and Kane and Aubameyang struggling to live up to their value, it seems like the old template is fighting its way back.

Comparing the top 10k ownership statistics of last gameweek to the current one, we find the following statistics:

Player Gameweek 17 Top 10k Ownership Gameweek 18 Top 10k Ownership
Salah 58.77% 48.14%
Hazard 43.19% 59.07%
Sterling 50.66% 55.04%
Kane 61.41% 57.95%
Aubameyang 37.11% 42.89%
Sane 28.52% 41.74%

Numbers suggest that managers have been shipping Salah, Kane and Aubameyang and putting more faith into Manchester City assets and Hazard. As Salah punished his sellers again this week, it remains to see whether Kane and Aubameyang will follow his lead.

This back and forth shifting of assets leaves the most selected team this week looking like the following:

As the figure shows, Salah drops back to the fifth most owned midfielder despite recently scoring a hat-trick, and registering a goal and an assist against Wolves.

Hazard rises to second and Sterling settles at fourth. Meanwhile, Kane is still the most-owned forward with Aubameyang dropping to the fourth place.

The decline of managers’ faith in the new template of Kane and Aubameyang, plus the old pick of Salah, also manifests itself in the captaincy percentages this week.

Although the three of them are face relatively decent fixtures this week (Everton, Burnley and Wolves respectively), none of them is captained by more than 8% of the top 10k.

On the contrary, managers opted for Sterling (44.2%), Hazard (20.37%) and Sane (15.61%) for the armband.

These captaincy statistics ensure that, for the first time in many weeks, no player has an effective ownership of more than 100%, with Sterling the best at 99.34%.

This is good news for the game as this kind of splitting between managers is what allows for significant rank jumps, if you are correct with your captaincy choice.

    Fab
Luiz - Digne - Kola - Doherty (Peltier)
Sterling - Hazard - Salah - Anderson (Camarasa)
    Aguero/Auba - Rashford - Jiminez

Midfield looks incredible. Attack suffers a little but I’d say the mids justify it

I really like it. Only downside is the weak bench which could hurt with rotation

Cheers Grant! I would hope only Peltier is the risk and at least two of three on the bench would play and cover any rotation but fair point. Cheers mate

Just in, hasn’t seen any of the game.

Happy with the CS at least from Robbo!
VVD owners should be very happy, they finally got their goal! 😆
Getting Salah back in is increasingly tempting even if one of Kane or both of Auba would be making way.

So Liverpool have Newcastle on Wednesday, followed by Arsenal next Saturday, followed by Man City in midweek. Seems sensible to assume that there'll be plenty of changes for Newcastle at home. Would expect changes from tonight's lineup to look something like

    Keita > Wjinaldum
    Milner > Clyne / TAA
    Robertson > Moreno
Shaqiri / Lallana in for one of the front 3
Sturridge to make an appearance if not start

Get him and keep Robo a good idea?
Also Would Button come in for Ryan when he goes off to Asia cup. Need to free up funds to get Salah back in. It's too painful to see Salah scoring after selling him b4 hatrick. His price is bound to become too much to get him back.

Nah those are terrible types of bets. The fact that if you did put a significant sum on say Man City, (at rather low odds) your money is tied up in limbo until April or May doing nothing.

I think the stregth in depth is where it will be make or break. Without Salah or VVD they are a lesser team for example.

Can't say the same for city. Even without KDB, Aguero and Mendy they still look awesome.

They'd lost 3 times by that point but i got it mixed up with their 2004 season where they'd only lost once. So error on my part and i should have fact checked prior.

Ouch. My cup opponent WC out Salah this week - his team is almost identical to mine too now (I took a 4 pt hit) - same midfield and backline but I have Kane + Kamara up top and he had Jiminez and Aubemayang.

As good as Salah has been recently it's still crazy to get him in now. He has one good fixture followed by 2 difficult ones. (And remember earlier in the season he was being sold by some because he blanked in the tough matches.

Also you'll be getting rid of someone who is likely performing anyway - Haz, Sane and Sterling are all great options - no reason to get rid of any of them for Salah yet.

Difficult fixtures? Arsenal can't defend and don't have any fit center backs.

      Newcastle can't defend.

So I guess that just leaves city, which I can swallow.

After that they have an amazing run.

Arsenal were the same earlier in the season and it was 1-1. Newcastle are solid defensively - they've only conceded 23 in 17. Their worst result was a 3-0 loss to WH - also conceded 3 to United but conceded at most 2 vs the other top teams.

Salah is obv fine to keep over the next few if you have him but def not going to bring him in before those fixtures have passed.
