After the hectic Christmas period, there is no little consensus over which premium Fantasy Premier League options are the best to own.

The problem has been particularly prevalent in midfield and attack with the recent re-emergence of Mohamed Salah (£13.3m) forcing managers to chop and change their more expensive assets to get him back in.

We have decided to take the opportunity of the upcoming break from league action to compare some of the popular players at the dearer end of their classification.

These are Salah, Raheem Sterling (£11.3m), Eden Hazard (£11.1m), Leroy Sané (£9.5m) and Paul Pogba (£8.4m) in midfield with Harry Kane (£12.6m), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.4m), Sergio Aguero (£11.2m) and Roberto Firmino (£9.1m) up front.

Using the Fantasy Football Scout members’ area we have weighed these options against each other for various statistics over the last six Gameweeks.

The analysis takes into account their minutes per shots in the box, minutes per efforts on target, creativity and expected data.

We have chosen the period of the last six Gameweeks to factor in the hectic festive period but also to take into account some of the matches before that too.

    Very informative article David. Thanks.
Although, I know Kane is way off from the others at XGI, But he gets pts - and pts is our goal.
    In the last six -
    Salah - 61 pts
    Kane - 45
    Hazard - 45
    Aub- 39
    Sterling - 23
Clearly Salah is a most as he is the focal point in his team. I think Kane has the same role for Spurs. I think the choice need to be 1 from the other 3, Sterling, Aub, Hazard.

In addition, Stats are always for the past. we cant really know what will heppend next. A lot of things can change, City will click, Kane will suffer from Son's Leaving, etc'. So really somtimes I dont know how to relate to those stats.
It can be really intresting how do you guys use the stats for your decision making?

      Salah, Auba and Hazard

      Salah you have noted above.
Auba - has no EFL Cup, has no tough European commitments and is nailed
Hazard - has no tough European commitments and is nailed

Kane and Sterling share their points too much with the strikers and midfielders.

Agree with this Kane fixture congestion looks bad and I see Auba being fresher of the two.

I've just wild carded as season was slipping away 486th to 20k in last 2 months and have a team with no City now.

For me, I looked at what you wrote and thought Kane is way over-priced in that context. If he costs 1.4M more than Hazard, who produces the same number of points, I'm going with Haz.

    3. AndyCook
      7 years, 7 months ago

Hazard is Chelsea’s focal point more so than any of the other players are in their team I believe. Stats give a good indication of who’s form is unsustainable and who’s is not most importantly that’s all.

What to do with this lot?

    Lloris, Speroni
    Alexander-Arnold, Digne, Doherty, Wan-Bissaka, Bednarek
Salah, Hazard, Pogba, Richarlison, F. Anderson
    Kane, Jimenez, Kamara

Two free transfers and unfortunately no money in the bank.

    Thanks!

Really good question. I don't see how King, Wilson, and Solanke can all play together, so I don't really think Brooks will lose his spot altogether, but I am curious how they will all be used.

I know was confirmed a few hours ago but, I've just seen Solanke has joined Bournemouth.
Shame as was hoping he'd go a team struggling for goals, at 4.7 would be bargain, going Bournemouth, competition from Wilson and King, just no go.. Oh well

Lots of teams spend X amount on players and never play.... Not directly spending but as a Burnley fan, the amount of loans we've done and never played them, I think "what's the point in loaning them"

    Sane/Kane vs Eriksen/Aguero?

The more I think about it, the more Eriksen/Aguero appeals.
Esp as cheaper with option to downgrade Eriksen to Son later

  6. Whats the Mata?
    • 11 Years

Would you go Mane over Salah (can't afford Salah without multiple hits), if you'd captain Kane and Haz in the near future?

    Gw 22: Haz New (H)
    Gw 23: Kane Ful (A)
    Gw 24: Kane Wat (H)/Haz Bou (A)
    Gw 25: Kane New (H)/Haz Hud (H)
    Gw 26: Kane Lei (H)
    Gw 27: Kane Bur (A)/Haz Brighton (H)

I know Salah is clearly the better option, but I think it's makes no sense tearing apart your team to fit him in, especially with those captaincy options in Haz, Kane and probably Manchester United attackers.

Can also accumulate funds to get Salah in for Mane later if Salah keeps getting hattricks every week and becomes essential.

Would love your thoughts on this.
    Cheers.

    3. Whats the Mata?

      Last 4 GWs

      Salah 13.3
      Minutes played 360
      xG from open play 1.16
      BPS baseline 16
Goal attempts in the box 9

      Mane 9.5
      Minutes played 316
      xG from open play 1.27
      BPS baseline 38
Goal attempts in the box 8

I know at the end of the day, total points makes a difference; but maybe, just maybe Mane could be worth getting if you don't wanna spend multiple hits to get Salah in?

If your captain can match Salah then it absolutely makes sense to go without. I haven't had Salah all season and I'm around 9k at the moment, even with a few captain fails and unlucky/bad moves along the way.

I'm not against getting Salah either though, I might get him for some peace of mind when it comes to captain dilemmas.

That was because Morata started the game. Check Hazards stats when he's played as a f9 or with Giroud.

Every player will atleast blank one or the other gw. Salah has blanked too when I have captained him.

If Hazard plays with Pedro in attack and Kovacic behind him he'll be a much better prospect.

I am considering this with Firmino instead of Salah over the next few then reassess. It's seems so obvious that Salah is the best pick though on an incredible team play for the title. Not sure how Kane will fair in absence of Son, could go either way. As for Hazard, he has let me down so many times with the arm band, can't rely on him.

    7. AndyCook
      7 years, 7 months ago

I would take each player on their own merit. Regardless of whether you have or do not have Salah you should consider Mané (this is particularly true if you would never captain him as the only interaction between players from the same team is the fixture list). I wouldn’t want Mane personally.

Apart from City away, which of Auba's next seven fixtures to do honestly class as bad? I would assume you'd say Chelsea, but that's at the Emirates where Arsenal have been scoring for fun, and Chelsea's backline ain't what it used to be!

      1. F_Ivanovic
        • 10 Years
        7 years, 7 months ago

Chelsea have been solid at the back recently - whatever you say, it's still a tough fixture. People always say about Chelsea, Arsenal and United that they're not that difficult - and yeah, they're not. But you still don't expect a points haul and it's never surprising to see a blank. Salah has blanked in 6/7 against the top 6 this year.

His fixtures are pretty good in the next 7 but then they do have another 2 difficult ones.

Who would you rather sacrifice in order to get in Salah?

    A) Alonso
    B) Trippier
    C) Robertson

Rest of the defense is Doherty & AWB and the plan is to normally play 3-4-3 with an occasional 4-4-2

Or, based on your other defenders, I guess you were probably talking about downgrading to a defender you will leave on the bench. In that case, I'd probably ditch Alonso too.

    Wildcard thoughts?

    Etheridge / Button

Robertson - Alonso - TAA - Wan Bissaka - Cedric

    Salah - Eriksen - Sane - Doucoure - Brooks

    Aguero - Arnautovic - Kamara

    Suggestions ??

I would get Jonny over Cedric. Solanke over Kamara. Brooks may be at risk now

Downgrade Alonso, upgrade Kamara and play 3-4-3!

Best use of 2 ft next week?

    A) Fanderson and Auba to Fraser and Kane
    B) Hazard and Auba to Sane and Kane
    C) Alonso and Auba to Digne and Kane

      Don’t like a and c

And wouldn’t do b this week with hazard fixture.

Kane not urgent this week. So perhaps just do something else like a keeper

C - Alonso being the most pressing of concerns

But I don’t rate Digne because Everton can’t keep sheets.

That's true but he has decent attacking threat and is nailed on set-pieces too

really? then why do you own Alonso? He was way too expensive to own just for clean sheets.

Why Auba to Kane when it's WHU away v Man U home prefer Auba against that Hammers defence

The other possibility is dropping both Alonso and Hazard and getting Kane in for a hit, but I'm less enthusiastic about that route.

Soo, like the article discuss and many on the forums are debating, I can't decide which premiums to go with. My main mini league rivals all have Salah - I don't - and it have hurt me during the december GW's.
So I'm considering the following move for a hit:

Jiminez, Hazard, Anderson --> Salah, Arnie, Fraser
Yay or nay? Any thoughts much appreciated.

    1,8 itb, 2ft
    Pat
    Robbo, Digne, Doherty, WanB
    Haz*, Anderson*, Pogba, Sane
    Kane, Jiminez*, Rashford
    (Hen / WanB, Kiko, Masuaku)

Appreciate any help, will try to answer as much in return
    1 FT 1.5 ITB
    Lloris Button
    Alonso Lindelof Holebas Button Peltier
    Sterling Hazard Pogba Richarlison Fraser
    Kane Jiminez Ings

I feel quite embarrassed posting that defense so was thinking of doing Peltier to TAA. Think that’s a better move than getting Salah or saving a transfer. Happy to captain Hazard or Sterling

Ifyour plan is to play 3-5-2 I think you can do better than Holebas. No point upgrading Bennett and Peltier if you arent going to play them; if you are going to play 4-4-2, then Fraser will punish you for benching him.

After a fair few red arrows in a row I’m tempted to take hits to stop the slide. I’ve already used my FT and (rage) transferred out Schindler to TAA leaving me nothing in the bank. Team is:

    Button / Hamer

    TAA / Digne / Holebas / Wan B / Bennett

    Salah / Hazard / Pogba / Anderson / Masuaka

    Kane / Auba / Kamara

    Hits needed or not?

More than fine to not take hits although you may want to soon fix up your goalie position

Short term thing as I had Hart and Hamer (don’t ask why) and needed to free up funds to get TAA this week. I plan to sort the keeper position out in a few GW’s when Button is back on the bench.

Just speculation, but if Wilson does move to Chelsea, what would his role be from the start? Straight to the starting XI or slowly introduced? Could either boost his appeal as a bargain forward or kill his potential for a while, making him a priority to ship out.
