Cheaper midfielders are the focus of our Spot the Differential article ahead of Gameweek 28.

There is a selection of players in this position offering potential for the next few matches, all priced well under £7.0m.

Read on and discover which options owned by less than 5% can help propel you up the rankings…

Isaac Hayden

Price: £4.4m

Ownership: 1.7%

A new candidate for the fifth midfielder spot has arisen in recent weeks as Newcastle’s Isaac Hayden (£4.4m) continues a decent run of form.

The 23-year-old has benefited from recent time out of the side for Jonjo Shelvey (£5.3m) and Ki Sung-yeung (£4.7m) to start the last nine Gameweeks in a row.

It is in the last five that Hayden has found form, recording three assists and a goal in that time.

That has come from seven chances created in the last four Gameweeks, combined with six efforts on goal.

No midfielder priced at £4.5m or under can do better in that selected time-frame.

The fixtures still look good for Newcastle over the coming weeks with Burnley (home), West Ham (away) and Everton (home) their next three opponents.

Crucially, the Magpies have a fixture in Blank Gameweek 31, against Bournemouth (away), and might have one in Gameweek 33 against Crystal Palace (home), which could make Hayden an important player to own long-term too.

Pascal Groß

Price: £6.7m

Ownership: 1.7%

With Blank Gameweek 27 out of the way, Brighton options come back into consideration ahead of a trip to Leicester City on Tuesday night.

Despite playing in just three matches across the last four Gameweeks, Pascal Groß (£6.7m) is joint-top for key passes played in that time.

He has supplemented that with eight efforts on goal and could inspire Brighton to a decent showing at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester are without a clean sheet at home since Gameweek 14 and the effect of going into this match without a manager is hard to quantify.

This could be a serious opportunity for Brighton to secure their first away win since Gameweek 14.

James Maddison

Price: £6.6m

Ownership: 4.4%

Despite Puel’s departure from Leicester City, there is still plenty of promise surrounding central midfielder James Maddison (£6.6m).

This is not the first time we’ve tipped the former Norwich City man as a differential option of late as the Foxes fixtures continue to appeal.

A home game against Brighton this week is another one of those favourable fixtures, and it comes after a strong statistical performance from Maddison last time out.

That means in the last four Gameweeks, no player has created more chances than him, while only two Fantasy assets in the whole division have shot more often.

With reports of Brendan Rodgers coming to the King Power Stadium, we could still see Leicester able to capitalise on their appealing schedule, and Maddison could be a big part of that.

With reports of Brendan Rodgers coming to the King Power Stadium, we could still see Leicester able to capitalise on their appealing schedule, and Maddison could be a big part of that.

    A)Son + Rashford > H.barnes and Aguero -4 + bench Anderson.

B)Play Son and Anderson, bench Rashford, save free transfer and assess after midweek games.

    Thanks

Team is in shambles, have to WC to catch ML leader. How does this WC squad look?

    Ederson - Fabianski

Van Dijk - Doherty - Kola - Pereira - (Shaw)

    Rich - Moutinho - Salah - Pogba - (Westwood)

    Rondon - Aguero - Jimenez

i wouldnt have ederson (they'll struggle at the back w/o laporte and fernandinho). would get boruc in for one of the keepers as a playing 4.0 for the BGWs

wouldn't really want kola either, or shaw moutinho or richarlison. that's just me though

Losing Anderson (despite fixtures) for Almiron/Fraser in order to get Aguero for Rashford (-4)

Wwyd? Captaining Auba and don't have any City players currently.

Would say no to that- Aguero may be rested, Rashford may start, and Anderson has showed glimpses that he has another big point haul in him over next 5gw's.

What we learnt in the runup to Gameweek 28…

    Liverpool

Firmino’s injury is not as serious as feared. He will be close to being able to play tomorrow, but if he doesn’t return then he has a big chance to be back for the derby at the weekend. Keita was ill yesterday, but trained today.
    https://twitter.com/neiljonesgoal/status/1100387553717506050

    Manchester City

Stones, Jesus, Fernandinho and Laporte are all out for City. Stones and Jesus may return soon, but the other two might have to wait until after the IB. Mendy “could be” fit to play.
    https://twitter.com/Sammy_Goal/status/1100387907758628865

    Tottenham

Alli is continuing to progress well, but Dier remains out. He may be available for Dortmund or Southampton, but Poch will take it day by day.
    https://twitter.com/AlasdairGold/status/1100384063968432129

    Arsenal

Maitland-Niles returns after illness, but Iwobi and Lichtsteiner will have to have late fitness tests to see if they can make it for Bournemouth.
    https://www.arsenal.com/news/team-news-iwobi-maitland-niles-lichtsteiner?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

    Manchester United

OGS could be without as many as 10 first team players on Wednesday. Rashford seems a major doubt, but OGS confirmed that it was to early to tell how bad it is, and that they’ll wait to see how his ankle responds to treatment – more positive than earlier reports. He also added, “He might have a chance of playing”, which bodes well for next gameweek.
    https://twitter.com/SimonPeach/status/1100334658200444929

    Chelsea

There is talk at Chelsea whether Kepa should be dropped. Sarri said he would leave it to the team, but later clarified that he has to decide the whole team, not just Kepa. However, he is considering a change in goal – though I find that very unlikely.
    https://twitter.com/NizaarKinsella/status/1100388332553555969

    Watford
Only Kiko Femenia is out through injury for Watford, but Holebas is also out due to his suspension. Kiko is training, but the games comes too soon for him.
    https://twitter.com/WatfordFC/status/1100077968439750657?s=20

    Wolves

Nuno reported that Wolves had no fresh injury concerns, meaning Moutinho has recovered from the elbow he took in the Bournemouth game.
    https://twitter.com/TimNash_1/status/1100027788512452611?s=19

    West Ham

Balbuena and Reid have returned to training now, which is good news for their defence. Pellegrini is eager to start increasing Lanzini’s minutes in all games now, but they will have to do so carefully as he returns from a long term injury.
    https://twitter.com/Sam_InkersoleTM/status/1100010426639761410?s=19

    Bournemouth

Wilson and Stanislas are not training yet, so are ruled out. Steve Cook has succumbed to a long-standing injury so will also miss out. Howe doesn’t have a date in mind for Brooks’ and Wilson’s return.
    https://twitter.com/afcbournemouth/status/1100323051504390145?s=19

    Everton

Silva confirmed Baines and Jagielka are available and ready, but Mina remains a doubt despite working the last 2 days.
    https://twitter.com/Adam_Jones94/status/1099966342281773056?s=19

    Leicester

Stowell has a fit squad bar his long term injuries as Chilwell is now fit.
    https://twitter.com/LCFC/status/1100033926444118022?s=19

    Crystal Palace

Sakho will miss the game for Palace.
    https://twitter.com/CPFC/status/1100387897906061312?s=20

    Burnley

Dyche reports no new injury news at Burnley.
    https://twitter.com/FFScout/status/1100013361604055042?s=19

    Newcastle

Only Clark and Elliot miss out at Newcastle. All others are fit, but Shelvey is missing some match sharpness.
    https://twitter.com/NUFC/status/1100028023309561856?s=20

    Brighton

Murray, Dunk and Izquierdo are all back but will need their fitness checked, Balogun is out but March is fit.
    https://twitter.com/BBCSussexSport/status/1099964285877452800?s=19

    Cardiff

The Camarasa / Warnock situation continues to confuse, with Warnock saying that he’s both “Back to normal” but also “he’s closer to fitness”. Seems likely that Warnock will avoid the risk of using him midweek, amid conflicting reports between Cardiff medical team and Camarasa’s personal team.
    https://twitter.com/FFScout/status/1100000446960332800

    Southampton

Ings remains out, as does Obafemi. He picked up an injury during his return from, a previous injury, which now looks set to keep him out for the rest of the season.
    https://twitter.com/SouthamptonFC/status/1100389747443290115?s=19

    Fulham

Ranieri has everyone available, suggesting Schurrle is back after his illness. I suspect Mawson is still out.
    https://twitter.com/FFScout/status/1100382337139949568?s=20

    Huddersfield

Diakhaby, Mbenza and Williams are out, Durm should be ok and Pritchard is available.
