Fantasy Allsvenskan: GW2

The first round of fixtures in Fantasy Allsvenskan is done and dusted and we have a summary of some of the talking points from gameweek 1.

Bonus points in midfield

For newcomers to Fantasy Allsvenskan the bonus system might be hard to grasp initially, we’ve covered that briefly in the introductory article here.
The first gameweek of the season has already thrown out some names that might be interesting for us going forward.

Rasmus Elm (7.5m) got the maximum 2 bonus points for offensive contribution and 2 bonus for defensive actions, netting him 6 points in total (!) despite Kalmar losing their game 0-2 and him thus not getting any clean sheet, assists or goals. Very interesting.
Gudmundur “Gudi” Thorarinsson (8.5m) is an expected bonus darling and he got 3 bonus this round thanks to his all-round performance, again no goals or assists.
Jonathan Levi (8.0m) was everywhere against Hammarby and also got 3 bonus but ended up with a total of 4 points, thanks to his yellow card making sure he didn’t quite reach Gudis and Elms bonus heights.

The benefitors of the bonus system will be important to keep track of, as it means we can be slightly less reliant on clean sheets, goals and assists for points potential.

Forward options

Mohamed Buya Turay (9.5m), Marcus Antonsson (11.0m) and Alexander Jeremejeff (9.5m) all delivered attacking returns, while Rasmus Jönsson (7.5m) became the top scoring striker this week with his brace for Helsingborg. Last year’s golden boy Paulinho (12.0m) played only 65 minutes against Malmö and went off the pitch with just the one extra bonus point for his ball recoveries while last season’s runner-up for the golden boot Linus Hallenius (10.5m) netted a goal away to Djurgården.

Vidar Örn Kjartansson (10.0m) struggled to make an impact in his debut for Hammarby and his owners will be hoping the home game against Kalmar on Sunday can provide him with the right platform to get going. Pawel Cibicki (8.5m) for Elfsborg in the same game looked fantastic however and was unlucky not to score at least one goal, hitting both the bar and the post within a 30-second window. On a lot of free kicks, corners and involved in pretty much everything good Elfsborg did, he was very close to getting 3 bonus points but ended up with just the 1 defensive point for ball recoveries. One to watch!

Denni Avdic (6.0m) started his time at AFC Eskilstuna in a great fashion with his goal in the 29th minute. Are the shoes laced correctly this year? Can he provide decent value or is he way past his prime?
The old hero Lasse Vibe (8.5m) has post-GW1 deadline returned to IFK Göteborg where he scored 23 goals and 6 assists in 26 appearances back in 2014. In 2015 he moved to English championship side Brentford where he scored 37 goals and 13 assists in 97 appearances, before going away for an unsuccessful stint at Chinese side Changchun Yatai in 2018. He’s not currently match-fit according to himself as he last played a game of competitive football in November 2018. He will probably be eased into it but he should be on everybody radar if he can rediscover his old form.

Another post-deadline signing Kolbeinn Sigthorsson (9.5m) has arrived at AIK, putting question-marks over who the preferred front two will be. He faces competition from Henok Goitom (10.0m) Tarik Elyounoussi (9.0m) and Chinedu Obasi (9.0m), with Elyounoussi potentially dropping to midfield to accommodate the Icelandic international. Sigthorsson is coming from a period of downtime due to injuries but like Obasi, has qualities beyond this league if fit (and back to his old self…). In the past he’s played regular football for Dutch side AZ Alkmaar (18 goals, 3 assists in 43 games) and Ajax (35 goals, 8 assists in 105 games) while his time at French side FC Nantes since 2015 hasn’t been a success story. For English readers he might be best known as the player who scored the winning goal for Iceland when they knocked England out of the round of 16, in Euro 2016.

Defensive solidity

AIK came through with the usual clean sheet at home to Östersund in an opening day 0-0 draw. Many of the fantasy squads currently on top went with triple AIK defence, some of them electing to deploy the ”Park the bus”-chip giving them double points for all defenders (at the expense of a regular captain). AIK will remain a popular premium option when hunting for clean sheets.

AFC Eskilstuna failed to keep a clean sheet at home to IFK Göteborg, conceding in the 84th minute in their 3-1 victory. Joy was still to be found though in their budget defence, as goalkeeper Mihael Ivanov (4.5m) and defender Kadir Hodzic (4.5m) both netted 4 points despite conceding, thanks to bonus points and saves. Could AFC Eskilstuna be the go-to options for value overall this year or are their opponents IFK Göteborg still too bad to draw any conclusions from?

Helsingborg looks to hit the ground running – but what about Pär Hansson?

Helsingborg wasted no time in establishing themselves back at Swedish top-flight football, beating IFK Norrköping with 3-1. There are a lot of players priced well in this squad and along with AFC Eskilstuna, they can provide value for our squads going forward like Rasmus Jönsson (7.5m), Kalle Joelsson (4.0) and Andri Runar Bjarnason (7.0m) to name a few.

Goalkeeper Pär Hansson (4.5m) will miss the entire first half of the season with his neck injury and no one really knows when he will be back yet. Terrible news for Pär Hansson and Helsingborg supporters alike, for our squads though that does seem to open up for back-up goalkeeper Kalle Joelsson getting the starting spot for a while. Tottenham Hotspurs youth keeper aptly named Tom Glover (4.5m) has been loaned in however and will provide competition for Joelsson.

Malmö and Häcken cancelling each other out

The big game beforehand turned out to contain quite some interesting highlights and talking points to take away from the match. Marcus Antonsson (11.0) lined up in attack for Malmö alongside Jo Inge Berget (9.0m), the former scoring a goal and being denied a brace from the penalty-spot as Häcken’s Peter Abrahamsson (6.0m) saved his close-range effort. Daleho Irandust (9.5m) scored the equalizer shortly after coming on, assisted by the popular striker Jeremejeff, while Paulinho looked threatening but failed to find the back of the net before being substituted in the 65th minute as a precautionary measure (having apparently complained to coach Andreas Alm about a feeling in his knee). His reaction upon being substituted raised a few eye-brows though as he appeared very angry and threw things about, but Alm tried to smooth things over post-game claiming that he simply could not risk letting him play on.

This is the first of our Review/Preview articles, which we'll try to get out every week.
I'll look to get a Hot Topic up pre-deadline every week as well.
Use the Community tab on the sidebar to find the latest Allsvenskan article, where all the Allsvenskan chat will be until a new article is uploaded.

With GW2 for Allsvenskan kicking off tomorrow (Saturday), how is your team looking?

    What are your likely transfers?

    Who will you captain?

I'm not doing any transfers this week because I want to have 2 free transfers next week with more information.

Going with 5-2-3 again and the same squad. It did not exactly pay-off last week but I still got above average points with 47. My captain is Jeremejeff and my VC is Antonsson.

Same for me with saving the transfer.

        Why Jeremejeff over Antonsson?

Sticking to the same lineup so I can have 2 FT's next week.

      Paulinho (c) Christiansen (vc)

Not expecting great things this week, most of my players have away matches.

Brought in a second AIK defender to double up and replace Malmo's 6.5m defender Larsson who didn't play in Gameweek 1.

Relatively happy with the team I picked and I feel there'll be tons of bargains available in the various positions so for now I'm likely to stay clear of the expensive players. Loving Jarl already!

      Captain will be Jeremejeff. 🙂

Jeremejeff is on my shortlist for captaincy.

And budget players are great in non-FPL leagues! It's harder to nail down who will start so players can come out of nowhere and be key performers

Great article again. No transfers for me this GW. I think point hits are better to be avoided in FAS, aren't they? So I keep my FT. Captain will be Jeremejeff. The only thing I'm still thinking about is if I should play Gustav Jarl over Sebastian Larsson. Last GW I had his 7 points on the bench ...

Always best to avoid hits yeah! Larsson should have higher points potential, but I haven't dug into Jarl too much yet

        Thanks!
Jarl is an interesting prospect if he keeps starting, he plays quite far forward. I had his points on the bench as well. For now I would still play Seb Larsson over him, might be something to consider for the restructuring wildcard though!

Already made one transfer as I'm taking a bit of a punt on doing Haksabanovic > Irandust. The plan was always to bring in another Häcken player for GW2.

Also a bit worried about Paulinho's playing time, and toying with the idea of doing Paulinho > Jeremejeff for a hit. This would allow funds for future transfers, but maybe a bit sideways?

I don't know about that for a hit! Cheaper, I like Jeremejeff more but not sure for a hit. Wait another week on that one I think.

That's my thinking right now. Cash won't be an issue though, as Paulinho is more expensive. Question is; will I captain him?

Definitely wouldn’t sell Paulinho after just one week if I had him, he looked threathening througout and should come good soon. Wait a week or two and reasses, especially if its for a hit 🙂

That's probably best. Has there been an explanation for him only playing 65 mins last GW?

Yup coach Andreas Alm claims that Paulinho a couple of minutes earlier came up to him saying he was feeling something in the knee (he's had multiple injuries with his knee before, even had surgery) so Alm took him off as a precautionary measure. He appeared very angry at being substituted though!

Yeah he should be alright I think! Swedish clubs are notorius with not giving out info pre-game though regarding niggles and injuries.

Looks like Paulinho will be my captain this gameweek. Could always go with Buya, but Häcken at home looks too tempting.

Jönsson (Elfsborg) did not play - I brought in Isherwood instead. Had 4 players who did not play first round. Turay looks good so far. Will wait to see if a starting 11 settle in the real.

Went Holmberg -> Cibicki for my FT, otherwise pretty happy with the squad.

Great article! I am doing one transfer and that is Löfkvist to Isherwood. Was a bit worried about Löfkvist being subbed at half-time.

My captain choice will be either Buya Turay or Antonioni. Don’t know who I prefer yet. Thoughts on the transfer/captain choice?

Seems like a reasonable transfer, I’m also assuming you mean Antonsson? 😀

I think Antonsson looks a solid captain-pick every week honestly, I might need to find a way to bring him in long term...

Örebro can be quite tight, Buya might still knick a goal but maybe not haul?

Solid transfers and captain, I’m hoping Helsingborg can keep Häcken out as I’m currently without any of their attackers... Not holding much hope for it though, Jeremejeff/Paulinho seems like no-brainers this week!

                Love these articles, great job!

For me it's the usual pattern - can hardly get a decision right in FPL, but nails most of them in Allsvenskan fantasy.

Decent start with 45p, got the captain right (Buya) but missed out on a clean sheet for Granli. Took him out for Sandberg the night before Granli dropped, and looking to get Mets in next week to retain my doubble AIK defence. Made a few changes the last week before GW1, took Antonsson out for Obasi, swapped Ajdarevic to AC and Henriksson to Björkman which all turned out well.

Captain this week is Jeremejeff. My mate captained Antonsson so that looks good right now.

So happy I decided to keep Moro on even with everyone saying dump him 😀

22 day 1, well over average with goals for my captain Paulinho and my differential Moro, 9 more players to go.... bring it.

14 (Paulinho captain) with 10 to go here. Irandust punt backfired massively as he didn't feature at all, so he looks a potential transfer out already. Add Radetinac and Diouf to list of non-playing options, as well as not owning Jeremejeff.

                  GW3 wildcard?

31p from there players here! Jeremejeff captain, Yasin and AC, with another 8 to go this could turn out to be a great gameweek!

The schedule now seems to be done the first 22 gameweek, containing only 2 doubble gameweeks. With Gw23 coming after the european qualyfiers, I find it unlikely that there will be any more than these two.

I decided from the start to really play the game this season and use the wildcard and chips to fully maximize the doubble gameweeks. However, with the schedule done, they both look crap, so I might have to reconsider. What do you think?

Malmo vs AFC/SUN had potential - looking less so now so you're probably right about reconsidering.

Malmö is going all Man City on us, rotation galore! Christiansen (or AC as many call him) looks to be the KDB who’s nailed week in week out.

I think the doubles tend to be so small you can easily just plan the transfers instead and going for the chips whenever it’s necessary/feels right.

I used first wc to sell most ham/mff players after their double last season, which worked out ok. Doesn't work out like that this time so just have to play around them. Perhaps make use for GW18 but too far ahead to think about.

Well done to you and others suggesting Christiansen over Rieks. Almost messed that up choice

That’s a lot down to Bob Sacamano really, I figured AC was nailed but then I also thought Rieks would play pretty much every game, so not quite right :). I’m hoping Malmö slows down a bit on rotation otherwise I’ll probably just stay away, bar AC...

Still trying to figure out a good strategy for the chips. With only 4 teams having a DGW, and both DGW's looks very unattractive, I strongly concider using one chips next week.

I'm looking at "Attack" which gives doubble points for all my strikers:
                      Jeremejeff (Falkenberg a)
                      Obasi (Sirius h)
                      Buya (Göteborg h)

It's still so early into the season, and I would like more information before using a chip. However, the fixtures looks amazing and there's no guarantee I'll have a line of three such good strikers against such easy opponents again in the future. I already have trouble deciding which of my forwards to captain.

Since the DGW's looks so unappealing, I also concider using the "Parkera bussen" chip in a single gameweek. A triple AIK defence against an easy opponent at home seems obious, so perhaps Falkenberg at home in GW10. Surely that sounds more appealing than using it in AIK's DGW against Norrköping and Malmö? Another option could be Triple up om Malmö defence for theire DGW, but then name 3 Malmö defenders certain to play? It's like a minefield!

That strategy would probably mean I'd have to wildcard in GW9 to bring in a good defence for "Parkera bussen" in GW10, and also be prepared for Malmö's DGW 11 and AIK in DGW13. Would then have to spend GW14-18 getting rid of them to field a full side in BGW 18.

Any thoughts on this? Or should I just sit calm during the spring and save all my chips for the DGW or the autumn?

                      Cheers!

I haven’t looked that far ahead to be honest, right now I’d say I’ll probably play the chips when form and fixtures align, which is hard to know beforehand. Malmö is so tough in a DGW, might just go with AC +1 and hope for the best. I think I will gradually get more AIK defence in (just got Sundgren right now) but will need some more team value/solid budget options as they are quite expensive!

Thought I noticed that last season too, DGW's were very single in nature but more frequent... might have imagined it though.

Anyways, I'm half-tempted to just fire "Park the Bus" next gameweek with my current lineup:
                        Hodzic - Sundgren - Karlsson - Smith - Kossounou

Have 2 FT and could potentially use that gap to work on my midfield, where I need some improvement. With 2 FT now and 1 more over the PtB chipplay I can really sharpen the squad and have wildcard in hand....

                        Thoughts?

                        Rest of team is:
                        Bråtveit (Amos)
                        --DEFENCE covered--
                        Romario - Jarl (Moro-Ring-Morrison)
                        Obasi-Cibicki-Paulinho

On reassessment we have to decide whether the doubles are more likely to favour attack, defence or no chip.

                          GW11:
                          MFF - AFC, SUN
                          SUN - AIK, mff

                          GW13:
                          AIK - MFF, NOR
                          NOR - IKS, aik

That doesn't look great for defensive points so maybe Attack/2C. Choice is more difficult for PTB, particularly when we only have 2 DGWs and 3 chips. Ignoring the doubles, if we assume form will eventually revert to expectations (AIK, MFF, NOR the better teams and will keep most clean sheets) - would aim to PTB when AIK have appealing home fixture and one or more of the other two do as well.

Options for that are (AIK, MFF, NOR):

                          GW3 - IKS, OFK, kff
                          GW7 - AFC, fff, ife
                          GW10 - FFF, KFF, SUN
                          GW16 - HIF, IKS, OFK
                          GW20 - KFF, FFF, iks
                          GW25 - GBG, HIF, AFC

GW25 then GW7/10/20 probably look the best. However park the bus has such high potential for points I'm not yet writing off using it for the doubles.

So for me it's wait and see how team form settles down (PTB), and how aligns with individual form (other chips). As you say Malmo's rotation could write off GW11 PTB whatever their defensive form by then.

How big are the chances for postponements due to weather in April? And how quick do the player prices rise in FAS? I thought Hallenius would rise over night but he didn't ...

Very rarely happens in Allsvenskan (the weather postponements). When the season goes from March/April to November, we miss the worst part of the year that would see more games not being playable.
Player price I can't recall but don't think it was super-fast last season with the fluctuations.

In Allsvenskan you are suspended for every three yellow cards so at 3, 6, 9 and so on. No cut-off date so even if it's YC in GW2, GW6 and GW 29 for instance they still miss GW30. Bit of an annoying one that.

Just noticed Allsvenskan Fantasy themselves actually do some reporting on the gameweeks: https://en.fantasy.allsvenskan.se/a/pundit
All in Swedish so far though!
Svenskafans is a good site, just remeber that most of it is written for and by supporters of the different squads so objectivity-levels varies 🙂

                                      I hadn't noticed that, thanks!

Good advice on the Svenskafans thing too. I will take the advice with a pinch of salt...

                              Is Gustav Jarl seriously injured?
