Fantasy Premier League managers are likely to find the best goalkeeper options for their second Wildcard towards the cheaper end of the scale.

We have been weighing up some key candidates for inclusion between now and the end of the season.

To do that, we have made use of the wealth of data available in the Members’ Area.

For that reason, only paid-up Fantasy Football Scout members can read on to enjoy our analysis.

Now that we are past the half-way stage, memberships are now available for just £10, so make sure you get the most of it while you can by signing up HERE.

Under the new directives, that is a penalty IMO. Going to be a lot more penalties for handball next season because of the new directive. Will favour attacking teams because they are more likely to put balls into the box which will lead to handballs like that.

There is no directive .. he stopped the ball with his hand .. it’s a pen end off

Yes I know intent is irrelevant under the new directive. But I just don't agree with it.

Under old rules intent was a factor and I don't think it would've been given.

Basically I just prefer it as it was, not this version of VAR.

It was garbage before though. And intent required refs to read the mind of the offending player. Absolutely ridiculous.

VAR is the best thing to happen to the sport in ages.

Agree VAR is a massive improvement and should continue to be developed and enhanced. But these handball rules as it stands just seems wrong.

VAR at the World Cup was excellent and I don't recall any handball decisions like today.

Not sure that the new rule is the best way forward, but more significant than whether it's right or wrong is the fact that they're applying it consistently. That I can support.

I love the handball rules because they're clear as day to me, very little to 'judge' on the fly except ball distance (from where its struck to offending player) and unnatural positions (which I think is very easy to decide, personally). I think the rules have been applied very well and the WC and CL was a perfect example of it.

Whether it’s intentional or not is completely irrelevant here, several
other factors are taken into account with penalties.

It’s all good, I think it probably should be a pen in my view of what the rules should be. But, for such a narrow call I don’t think you can put intent in there and give a yellow as well.

Directives are less specific, rules stay the same. It could basically be just a directive to give a penalty if the decision is 50-50.
The rules in this case would be that the player is aware of the ball by looking at it, at the same time his hand is away from the body and the fact he stopped a dangerous shot by committing a foul.

Disagree. Under the revised interpretation of the handball rules it is a penalty IMO. The interpretation might be 'wrong', but then it needs to be changed. But on the current interpretation (re the silhouette) then it is a penalty IMO.

It's also a rather natural place to put your arm sliding in like that. But I need to read the new rules.

          1. Yank Revolution
            • 14 Years
            7 years, 16 days ago

Had this discussion with someone else about the Man U CL pen. His argument was, "Well, he was jumping! Where do you expect his arm to go?" Which isn't an argument. It IS possible to slide and jump without flinging your elbows/arms away from your body unnaturally.

If you're going to jump, or in this case, slide, you had better make damn sure your arms aren't extended outward too far or you're risking that pen call. It's a player mistake that they can't jump or slide without moving their elbows outward or upward, and they're jeopardizing their own team's success by continuing to do so.

            1. AIRMILES
              • 14 Years
              7 years, 16 days ago

You might be right. I haven't done a sliding tackle in about 25 years. I'm not best placed to comment. Mind you, they're all going to look like a bunch of penguins on pogo sticks if they have to keep their arms by their sides when jumping.

              1. Yank Revolution
                • 14 Years
                7 years, 16 days ago

That was the other 'argument' made to me, that they can't jump with their arms pinned at their sides...which was just, silly. It is possible to jump high, naturally, with arms slightly away from the body. If they're finding it too difficult to do it without looking like Jesus on the Cross or an NFL referee signaling a touchdown, then they had better stop jumping (that way, or at all).

                1. AIRMILES
                  • 14 Years
                  7 years, 16 days ago

Then it's a question of interpretation as to how far they can move their arms before it is deemed to be worthy of a handball. So there's still going to be a grey area.
