Which players did early Wildcarders sign for Gameweek 3?

Under 10% of Fantasy Premier League managers played their Wildcard for Gameweek 3.

After two weeks of the campaign, 6.8% of players worldwide pulled the trigger to create themselves a new squad.

That was 2.4% more than played their Wildcards in Gameweek 2, just 4.4% of managers shaking things up at the first hurdle.

Worldwide chip usage for Gameweek 3

So far, 11.3% of managers have played their Wildcards.

Not surprisingly, it was the most popular chip for Gameweek 3, as the majority of FPL players hope to use the others later in the campaign.

The Wildcard has certainly been the talk of the town in the Fantasy Football Scout community this week, so it is helpful to have a look at the Wildcard templates both overall and among the current top 10,000 managers.

Understandably, Sterling is the most popular player in Wildcards for Gameweek 3, chosen in 73.0% of them.

Following his four goals in two games, Teemu Pukki (£6.8m) is just behind the Manchester City man, currently sat in 61.2% of Wildcard squads.

Snapped up by a similar number of managers was Sheffield United’s budget option John Lundstram (£4.1m).

His 14-point haul in Gameweek 2 has convinced 61.2% of Wildcarders of his ability to offer value this season.

Despite much of the pre-season debate revolving around whether or not we should have Sterling or Kevin de Bruyne (£9.6m), those who have Wildcarded early simply asked ‘why not both?’

The Belgian midfielder is the second-most popular option in his position among those who went back to the drawing board for Gameweek 3.

These early-movers have also largely ditched Mohamed Salah (£12.5m), opting to spread the cash elsewhere.

In order to facilitate this, 46% of these managers have opted for Sadio Mané (£11.5m) as their coverage for the Liverpool attack.

They have also moved away from the Reds’ defence following a disappointing start to the season.

Virgil van Dijk (£6.5m) is the most fashionable of Liverpool stoppers with 36.5% presence in overall Wildcard squads for Gameweek 3, with Andrew Robertson (£7.0m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.0m) not earning enough interest to make the top-five in this position.

Manchester United players are also proving popular, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka (£5.6m), Anthony Martial (£7.7m) and Marcus Rashford (£8.7m) in the template.

Number of chips used by managers in the current top 10k

Even though those currently in the upper echelons of the game are still, to some extent, skewed by chip usage, it is still interesting to see who some of these managers have turned to in order to press home their advantage.

Their Wildcard template picture is actually remarkably similar to the overall one, the only differences coming in the budget areas.

Lewis Dunk (£4.6m) has been turned to with no Liverpool defenders making the cut, while Todd Cantwell (£4.6m) is in 33.9% of top 10k Wildcard squads.

Just 10.2% of managers have used the Triple Captain so far, with 2.3% of them deploying it for Gameweek 3.

Kane appears to have been the chief recipient of this enhanced armband among the current top 10,000, while Sterling, Rashford and Mané also received attention for it.

At present looking at saving my FT for GW4.

    Whats your thoughts?

    Heaton
    VVD, Digne, Zinc
    Salah, Perez*, Stirling, McGinn, Dendoncker
    C.Wilson*, Kane

    Pope, Greenwood, Montoya, Rico

    0.0ITB

If Perez blanks again i'll being looking at Mount or Cantwell.

    Thoughts?

Agree, Perez isn't working and Mount is central to an attacking chelsea. Perez will drop he is highly owned. Cantwell might get dropped when players return from injury, whereas Lampard is Mount's Dad.

Large Ownership doesn’t affect drops. Drops are based on the Percentage of drops not the number. So a player with 10 owners is as likely to drop as one with 1m. For example Robo and Salah have each lost over 400,000 owners and haven’t dropped, but Kieta has dropped in price having lost around 20,000 owners

Just realized Westwood is about to drop in price 🙁

Should I transfer him out for:

    A) Douglas Luiz (4.5 - cry)
    B) Cantwell 4.6 (4.6 - nor)
    C) Ceballos (5.6 - TOT)
    D) Keep Westwood (5.5 - LIV) and take -.0.1 un the chin

Obviously Cdeballos is the better pick but, that 1 million in the bank enables me to later do Wilson/Greenwood to Pukki/Barnes or something similar.

Exactly. Surely I'm not the only one who thinks this kind of s*** ruins part of the game. Week to week scores are completely useless. Total number of teams is completely useless. There should be a separate game for people who just want a one week thing.

i agree. the market prices are chaos on one good game, until "casuals" lose interest. A lot of people around me have already triple captained...some Pukki.

If a player has a good fixture followed by bad, he goes up then down the next week,

i lost 0.1m on Siggie this week, against villa - weakest team out there possibly.

They should make divisions on rank, 2m people in each Division.

Yes, prices! I knew there were some other obvious reasons I hate it. So many more teams that aren't real/legitimate that influence the market nonetheless.
This week after just today takes the cake for the most ridiculous team I've seen. A 4.5 defender from one of the weakest teams in the league triple captained, over Aguero, with two attackers from the other team also in his 11. Not only was that something crazy stupid that got lucky with a clean sheet and bonus (granted 9 is by no means a fantastic score) but he also had the cheap mids for the second goal and assist whilst again having a defender against them again.

Eye test was fine, they looked immense in their build up at times (especially opening 20mins). good xG, 64% possession away from home, just can’t finish at the moment so would avoid all attacking options

Let’s give Sokratis and Luiz a few matches before we write them off. I don’t think it’s that bad a pairing...Sokratis more resolute in defense but less mobile, Luiz is a good complement. Torreira when up to speed with give them cover. I’m cautiously optimistic, but, then, that’s why all my fellow Gooners call me an imposter.

The goals were pretty soft so it's worrying if doubled up past Digne. Villa were anything but special but neither are their next two opponents so maybe hold on McGinn, Wesley and Grealish. Don't buy anything Everton atm. Maybe Digne although he was somewhat average today at least.

I rarely bet on footy nowadays - don't feel the need. I bought him into my fantasy team is my equivalent.

I think Norwich will score quite freely but will also concede shedloads and struggle. To hit 15 he needs 11 in 36 games is not unreasonable though.

fair enough. they are super attacking, but i think theyll get ironed in too many games. I'd say 13 goals.

Who’s the best one-week rental for Trossard?

    Already have McGinn.

Buendia, Cantwell, Ndidi, Ceballos or Lamela?

less sure. They did hug it's true, but Pep is managing his minutes and wants sterling up front with Jesus.

          he is upset not playing.

I don’t think the argument matters but yes him and Dilva will see reduced mins. Fernandinho too. Pep building the next generation before he goes to Juve

Still a world class striker, they'd be silly to not use him. I'd say he should be about 50/50 for minutes with Jesus this season, but I agree with Dilva and Fernandinho

I’d say 60:40 in aguero favour but not 90:10 like last year. He is far better than Jesus imo

i worry he prioritises CL ahead of PL, rests players like KDB and Sterling Sep>dec, Jesus too. Aguero rested now to cover later.

Rotation has always been a factor with Pep. Yeah everyone will get their turn to rest, but it'll likely only be one game here and there.

agree, but he refuses to stand for trouble or complaining. look at Sane and mendy. also Yaya Toure.

I think Aguero is 3rd choice super sub and cover. I think he'll get league minutes around CL games. Like Mahrez.

FFS scaremongering at its best! True that he def really wants to win the UCL but retaining EPL equally important I'd imagine.

I disagree, he needs to win the CL massively.

to do that he needs his best players (KDB) fresh and fit.

he won't let them get overplayed; he'll use Mahrez and Silva And Aguero for league games around CL games.
