Under 10% of Fantasy Premier League managers played their Wildcard for Gameweek 3.

After two weeks of the campaign, 6.8% of players worldwide pulled the trigger to create themselves a new squad.

That was 2.4% more than played their Wildcards in Gameweek 2, just 4.4% of managers shaking things up at the first hurdle.

Worldwide chip usage for Gameweek 3

So far, 11.3% of managers have played their Wildcards.

Not surprisingly, it was the most popular chip for Gameweek 3, as the majority of FPL players hope to use the others later in the campaign.

The Wildcard has certainly been the talk of the town in the Fantasy Football Scout community this week, so it is helpful to have a look at the Wildcard templates both overall and among the current top 10,000 managers.

Understandably, Sterling is the most popular player in Wildcards for Gameweek 3, chosen in 73.0% of them.

Following his four goals in two games, Teemu Pukki (£6.8m) is just behind the Manchester City man, currently sat in 61.2% of Wildcard squads.

Snapped up by a similar number of managers was Sheffield United’s budget option John Lundstram (£4.1m).

His 14-point haul in Gameweek 2 has convinced 61.2% of Wildcarders of his ability to offer value this season.

Despite much of the pre-season debate revolving around whether or not we should have Sterling or Kevin de Bruyne (£9.6m), those who have Wildcarded early simply asked ‘why not both?’

The Belgian midfielder is the second-most popular option in his position among those who went back to the drawing board for Gameweek 3.

These early-movers have also largely ditched Mohamed Salah (£12.5m), opting to spread the cash elsewhere.

In order to facilitate this, 46% of these managers have opted for Sadio Mané (£11.5m) as their coverage for the Liverpool attack.

They have also moved away from the Reds’ defence following a disappointing start to the season.

Virgil van Dijk (£6.5m) is the most fashionable of Liverpool stoppers with 36.5% presence in overall Wildcard squads for Gameweek 3, with Andrew Robertson (£7.0m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.0m) not earning enough interest to make the top-five in this position.

Manchester United players are also proving popular, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka (£5.6m), Anthony Martial (£7.7m) and Marcus Rashford (£8.7m) in the template.

Number of chips used by managers in the current top 10k

Even though those currently in the upper echelons of the game are still, to some extent, skewed by chip usage, it is still interesting to see who some of these managers have turned to in order to press home their advantage.

Their Wildcard template picture is actually remarkably similar to the overall one, the only differences coming in the budget areas.

Lewis Dunk (£4.6m) has been turned to with no Liverpool defenders making the cut, while Todd Cantwell (£4.6m) is in 33.9% of top 10k Wildcard squads.

Just 10.2% of managers have used the Triple Captain so far, with 2.3% of them deploying it for Gameweek 3.

Kane appears to have been the chief recipient of this enhanced armband among the current top 10,000, while Sterling, Rashford and Mané also received attention for it.

I wasn't considering to WC this early, but now that I see my rivals WC team I think I should have.
Not only he has a great team, I'm also 0.3m short to copy it and 8 of his players are about to rise in the next few days.

Did I already f**k up or will I be able to recover from this?

this is a bit of a myth, people go crazy trying to build up every 0.1m there is

When you don't have a great team value you have to play the game slightly differently. There are plenty of options out there, you just have to look ahead of the curve instead of bungling in players after they score a hat-trick you want them when they score that hat-trick.

          Depends on the season.

Team value went out the window last season with the Kane injury and us being blessed with Doherty, Jimmy & other cheapies.

Don't be stressing it yet, let your players play.

Its easy to panic and be blinded by the first two weeks. You’ll have more than a good enough team value by the late stages regardless.

yeah the likes of Cantwell, Martin Kelly Lewis Dunk and Marcus Rashford wont be near the top of their positions at the end of the season. Even the likes of Lundstram and Pukki could be out of fashion in 3-4 weeks. Its very early yet for making big calls about your season being over.
think about Moise Kean, Pepe etc, fallen but will be able to be picked up later at a cheaper price. Only Marcos alonso & Batman have fallen by more than 0.1 yet so although you might not be gaining team value you wont be losing lots either unless you are very unlucky

Pukki can blank 3 weeks in a row and everybody will start selling him. It can happened with every player. 2-3 gws, and situation will be different. Arsenal will have a good fixtures, new players will hit some form etc. U should be step ahead. Don't think about players that got double digit hauls and don't try to pick every of them. Use u're transfers and WC smart, choose the ones u believe most and try to find some underrated/underachievement players.
Don't need to buy "Pukki" every GW. His hattrick in the past. Try to predict the future, and if u'll get that right, money and points comes.

You'll be fine. The wildcard you have and he doesn't will give you a boost when you play it and in a few weeks when the injuries mount and some of his key players aren't playing well, or at all, you have the chance to catch up. Keep making good decisions.

I cant recall seeing early season bandwagon this big that is the

Who you moving to bring him in?
For me likely King and looks like it will be close to 0.5m difference shortly. Would need to be 2 moves for me as I fancy keeping Kane for now
Or we all stay strong and hope our “differentials” out perform Pukki

Spoilt for choice on who to move on for him really - Jiminez, Wilson or Kean. All could be done in one move.

I think all 3 of those would normally outscore him; its just that Wolves are hampered by Europe, Bournemouth not clicking yet, Kean not playing yet

Yes quite frustrating so far, would ideally like to show patience with them, whichever one I get rid of will of course start firing, but tough when every man and his dog has Pukki.

1-2 or 1-3 I'm afraid. First proper test for The Blades and I think the gulf in quality between the 2 sides will become apparent. Concede early goal , have to chase the game which leaves them open to the Leicester attack.
Many will disagree with this opinion though !

Nah I can see the same tbh. Big game for Deno and Egan who will be marking Vardy most likely. Just their quality in midfield that scares me, if fuch plays over Chillwell then we might exploit that. But even he is solid... Hoping for a 1-0/2-1, set pieces massive. Excited either way, can't remember last time I watched a game with this much quality at the lane 🙂

Yes, it was a hastily arranged double gameweek, everyone went with Sane for a one pointer instead! Having him as captain that week when many didn't have him at all turned my season around.

            • 15 Years

Using it early is a bet against a double gameweek delivering.

This year, with Liverpool in the Club World Cup, they'll certainly have a double GW....and are aiming to win the league.

So big risk using it early this season

            1. Bird Raymond
              • 15 Years

It could be a crap double gameweek though, or Salah/Mane could be injured/out of form etc. Other than the year Sanchez and Aguero went nuts it has been an overrated chip imo.

If its the current top 10k not last seasons top 10k then it makes sense. People who've used it more likely to be top 10k than people who haven't so there's gonna be a high proportion of people in the top 10k who've used it already.

Maupay and Gray both are not nailed, bad options I’d rather the likes of Jota and I’d have to take another -4 to get Vardy Rashford or Firmino

exactly, so wait as King is nailed.

Maupay is awesome. you have 0.4m room. also King may deliver.

Deeney is out for ages so one of Welbeck or Gray must play - Gray was great in pre-season

          Maupay being managed in slowly.

          Also Wood at Burnley.

Do you think martial will get more points than trosard and king over the next few gws. As greenwood might get you a point. I have trosard. Looked good one goal and one disallowed. Wait and see what happens this week. But to answer your question. No

I wish nothing more than the WC template to fail. There! I said it.
