Last season’s finish of 1,224 was Josh Landon’s third within the top 5,000 during his nine-year Fantasy Premier League career.

But the Always Cheating podcast co-host’s campaigns haven’t always looked so easy.

In Joe’s latest Meet the Manager interview he finds out Josh’s strategies for success and how he has learned from his mistakes.

The demons of what he calls “that Yaya Toure and Aaron Ramsey season” loom large in his thinking years on. This has helped him snap up emerging bandwagons quickly, and especially before they become the template.

Other ghosts from the past such as Watford striker Odion Ighalo are also revealed during Josh and Joe’s chat about how psychology affects Fantasy managers’ decisions.

As listeners to Josh’s podcast will know, the eye test is crucial to his decision making. After all, the best manager to trust is often ourselves, as Josh describes how he navigates his way through the noise of FPL content, most notably on social media.

Latest football trends, which defenders to select and the ability to spot when a Fantasy game is “throwing a bone” are also explored in detail during this latest episode of a series that began last season to focus on the thoughts of managers with a stellar track record of success.

The chat with Josh is available to view on Youtube here and in the embedded video below.

It is also available on Soundcloud and through other notable podcast outlets. Embedded versions of these are also available below.

Very much dependent on Allison and walker peters update, but if fell nicely how about following:

    Adrian / button

    KWP / otamendi / pieters / lundstram / Rico

    Salah / sterling / mount / Pepe / son

    Haller / pukki / greenwood

    1. MTPockets

KDB seems an obvious pick, but otherwise looks fine

      KdB over Son.

Pope is by far the best keeper. Amazing fixtures for a while, great for saving long shots and keeping CSs.

Who is more important to remove, Laporte or Perez? Or both for -4?
    1.5itb so can afford upgrades.

    Heaton
    VVD Laporte Soyuncu Digne
    Salah Sterling KDB Mount Perez
    Pukki

    Greenwood Lundstram Wickham

Laporte, you are likely to have no bench cover if you remove Perez.

no need to take a hit Lundstram has a good fixture.

And you gotta play Lundstram surely. He doesn't have such a good fixture anytime soon.

You could downgrade Laporte to a Burnley defender and get Son for Perez?

      Laporte > 4.5m
      Perez > Pepe/Son

      Take the -4.

    Already done Perez --> Mount.

    1 FT. 0 ITB.

    Pope - Heaton
    VVD - TAA - Digne - Montoya - Rico
    Salah - Sterling - McGinn - Mount - Dendoncker

Robbo doesnt seem worth 6.9 ideally would like TAA for 0.2m more.

Maybe go for a 4.5m def like Pieters or Mings and invest the cash elsewhere thats what id be looking to do.

Do you believe he ll touch 200? I do. Premium Mids and forwards priced 10+ are the only other fpl players you can be kind of certain will touch 200(though others could.. The odds would be against them) . that in itself shows his value.

Yup. I believe so too. Hence why I think he is basically a premium mid/forward disguised as a 7 defender. Baines in his prime was priced 8 I believe. TAA looks a snip at 7

I think yes. He's a 7.0m midfielder for Liverpool that gets bonus points for clean sheets. He'll get 200 points this season if he stays fit and plays most games.

I can understand your point of view for someone priced at more premium levels like Pogba/Rashford, we are talking about a 6m attacking midfielder who has started most games this season.
Even if he doesn't score consistently at 6m I think he will be great value.

    Daniel James scored another curler yesterday. If Trossard is out;

    Trossard > James for -4?

    1. Miguel Sanchez
      • 9 Years

for a hit it probably depends on how long Trossard is out for...if out at all.

Yeah, on form, can score from outside the box, he is fast albeit lightweight but I think he will do well this season. Not sure on consistency though.

What is your take on rotating cheap defenders? Thinking of getting 4 cheap defenders and TAA on a WC and rotate them in all games.

            Pope
            TAA, Dunk, Mings, Lundstram, Pieters/Soyuncu
            Sterling Salah KDB James/Ceballos Dedoncker
            Barnes Haller Abraham/Pukki

Worth the hustle or its a risky option?

            1. MTPockets
              6 years, 10 months ago

Looks fairly necessary this season. Prefer to have a couple of better options (and there seem to be a few around 5.4m). Think Lundstram/Soyuncu works but haven't checked Dunk/Mings - but if that rotation works and enables rest of the team you want then why not

    Pope
    TAA Digne Mings Lowton Lunds
    Mane KDB Sterling
    Auba Pukki

    or

    Pope

A, althought not a fan of 5-3-2 formation, do you have Cantwell for a 4-4-2 switch for other weeks when Norwich do not play Man City?

Not a fan of 5-3-2 esp with that kind of defence, so latter

Thanks MT the formation in A is not set. So it'll be a rotation between Mings, Lunds, Lowton, Cantwell and Hayden based on fixtures.

    Only Silva's minutes worry me...

absolutely sick of this price change rubbish, laporte dropping is a random move if we are to believe fpl stats,he has been in the 7th or 8th last page to drop for 6 days on the trot and barely moved whereas the great tony martial has been first to drop for the last 4 nights and still stands firm ,man on the button doesnt own laporte but has tony ,no other reason ,cant be #nothappyinvestor

Agree that there should be some transarency regarding how price changes are determined . But surely Laporte had to drop . Martial is a strange one.

fplstats is basically a predictor, doesn't necessarily give you assurance. Laporte's drop was imminent anyway.

I had other issues but the martial injury also pushed me to press the wc at the start of the week, was convinced he would drop and I'd lose value, along with perez/kwp... it's very strange how he is still same price

I would say it's not fpl stats fault, they are doing their best to provide a useful free service, and a generally pretty good indicator

What is your take on rotating cheap defenders? Thinking of getting 4 cheap defenders and TAA on a WC and rotate them in all games.

    Pope
    TAA, Dunk, Mings, Lundstram, Pieters/Soyuncu
    Sterling Salah KDB James/Ceballos Dedoncker
    Barnes Haller Abraham/Pukki

Worth the hustle or its a risky option??

    1. George Sillett
      • 10 Years

Not a fan . I think you need TAA and Digne minimum . Players are cheap for a reason.

      1. ZeBestee

Yeah right, but Everton not keeping enough cleanies, money can be spent in attack with 3 mid priced forwards instead. Digne is a bit of a roller coaster, one game it would be 12-15 points, next is 1 or even a negative as we saw a couple of times last season. Agree though he is individually a top pick.

Two clean sheets out of four. Still got very good fixtures. Keep Digne

I’n Doing a 1/3 rotation of Schär, Lundstram and Söyüncü. Gives perfect fixtures for a long time with a nice combo of good defences and attacking threat

      1. ZeBestee
        • 11 Years
        6 years, 10 months ago

I like that. Concerned though with Leicester short term fixtures. Also do you think Newcastle will keep enough cleanies? against lesser sides in particular? Otherwise Schär is a good attacking option.

    What to do here please?

    Pope
    Robertson VVD Digne Montoya
    Salah Sterling KDB Mount
    Pukki Jota

    Button KWP Dendoncker Greenwood

    2 FT, 0.3 ITB

    Jota + KWP >>

    1. Barnes + Soyuncu / Pieters
    2. Haller + Rico

Play Soyuncu or Cantwell this week?

I have a sneaky suspicion Leicester might do one over United. A sneaky 1-0 with a Vardy counter attacking goal ala 15/16.
