Captain Poll

Gameweek 7 captaincy proving tricky as vote splits across several options

Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) has returned to the summit of captain consideration for Gameweek 7.

However, the Liverpool midfielder is far from being the only viable candidate according to the Fantasy Football Scout community.

As things stand, Salah has the support of 28% in our latest poll, ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Sheffield United.

The Egyptian has averaged 8.3 points per game this season while the Blades have kept just one clean sheet at home in the Premier League.

That said, Salah has, thus far, performed better at Anfield in 2019/20. In front of his own fans, he has produced four goals and one assist, compared to just two assists and no goals away from home.

That may be why there is a handful of alternative options being considered by the community this week.

Despite failing to score against Liverpool, Tammy Abraham (£7.4m) is being strongly considered at this stage, as Chelsea prepare to host Brighton in Gameweek 7.

The centre-forward has found the net seven times this season while Brighton lost their last trip to a top-six side 4-0.

Interestingly, Manchester City players are not currently challenging the very top of the captain poll after the initial spate of voting.

Raheem Sterling (£12.1m) is currently the most popular of these, backed by 12.9% of voters in the Fantasy Football Scout poll.

That demonstrates an understanding of Pep Guardiola’s rotation techniques, in that the England international’s benching against Watford indicates a sure start when his side travels to face Everton.

However, Sergio Aguero (£12.2m) and Kevin de Bruyne (£9.9m) are perhaps less secure given that they both played in the 8-0 demolition of Watford.

That may explain why both of them currently have less backing in the captain poll.

Centre-forward Aguero, yet to blank this season, has the support of just 7.1% while de Bruyne, who scored 17 points in Gameweek 6, has been tipped as the best captain option by 4.9%.

Fantasy managers may also be concerned about Everton’s defence perhaps, as they were tipped as one of the more reliable sources of clean sheets over the summer.

This proved to be the case for the first two matches of the campaign as the Toffees kept Crystal Palace out in Gameweek 1 and Watford in Gameweek 2.

But since then, Everton have conceded a minimum of two goals in every game and with their defence now being severely questioned, a meeting with Manchester City is far from ideal.

Also pushing his way in as a left-field candidate for the Gameweek 7 captaincy is Tottenham’s Son Heung-min (£9.6m).

The South Korean has attacking returns in each of his last two matches while Southampton have conceded 1.5 goals per game so far this season.

They were particularly shaky at the back in their most recent outing where they were beaten 3-1 by Bournemouth.

As already mentioned, the Fantasy Football Scout captain poll is now open and you can vote either below or on the side-bar of the website.

Joe and David have also discussed the destination of their Gameweek 7 armbands on our YouTube channel. You can also watch this below.

Point blank save by McCarthy and line clearance by Bednrek. We are s*** at the moment, Hojbjerg has been poor. Couldve been 2 nil down by now.

102 on the dot without really having concentrated on it. Have taken a few drops on the chin. Also although I wanted Tammy for next week wanted to see him finish last match before bringing him in although I knew he was set to rise.
Not too important imo. Points matter.
