Captain Poll

Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) has returned to the summit of captain consideration for Gameweek 7.

However, the Liverpool midfielder is far from being the only viable candidate according to the Fantasy Football Scout community.

As things stand, Salah has the support of 28% in our latest poll, ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Sheffield United.

The Egyptian has averaged 8.3 points per game this season while the Blades have kept just one clean sheet at home in the Premier League.

That said, Salah has, thus far, performed better at Anfield in 2019/20. In front of his own fans, he has produced four goals and one assist, compared to just two assists and no goals away from home.

That may be why there is a handful of alternative options being considered by the community this week.

Despite failing to score against Liverpool, Tammy Abraham (£7.4m) is being strongly considered at this stage, as Chelsea prepare to host Brighton in Gameweek 7.

The centre-forward has found the net seven times this season while Brighton lost their last trip to a top-six side 4-0.

Interestingly, Manchester City players are not currently challenging the very top of the captain poll after the initial spate of voting.

Raheem Sterling (£12.1m) is currently the most popular of these, backed by 12.9% of voters in the Fantasy Football Scout poll.

That demonstrates an understanding of Pep Guardiola’s rotation techniques, in that the England international’s benching against Watford indicates a sure start when his side travels to face Everton.

However, Sergio Aguero (£12.2m) and Kevin de Bruyne (£9.9m) are perhaps less secure given that they both played in the 8-0 demolition of Watford.

That may explain why both of them currently have less backing in the captain poll.

Centre-forward Aguero, yet to blank this season, has the support of just 7.1% while de Bruyne, who scored 17 points in Gameweek 6, has been tipped as the best captain option by 4.9%.

Fantasy managers may also be concerned about Everton’s defence perhaps, as they were tipped as one of the more reliable sources of clean sheets over the summer.

This proved to be the case for the first two matches of the campaign as the Toffees kept Crystal Palace out in Gameweek 1 and Watford in Gameweek 2.

But since then, Everton have conceded a minimum of two goals in every game and with their defence now being severely questioned, a meeting with Manchester City is far from ideal.

Also pushing his way in as a left-field candidate for the Gameweek 7 captaincy is Tottenham’s Son Heung-min (£9.6m).

The South Korean has attacking returns in each of his last two matches while Southampton have conceded 1.5 goals per game so far this season.

They were particularly shaky at the back in their most recent outing where they were beaten 3-1 by Bournemouth.

As already mentioned, the Fantasy Football Scout captain poll is now open and you can vote either below or on the side-bar of the website.

Joe and David have also discussed the destination of their Gameweek 7 armbands on our YouTube channel. You can also watch this below.

Some people have to calm down and look at historical line ups in the league cup during Pep's regime. Pep don't start reserve players in the league cup, at the very least not offensively. The midfield and attack have always been built around Gündogan, Diaz, Foden and Jesus. The remaining spots have occassionally been taken by Bernardo Silva and Sané when they've been bench players, but also Sterling, Agüero and David Silva have appeared.

Zinchenko getting rested hints towards him being first choice, at the very least until Mendy is fit for 90 minutes. Him getting dropped against Watford had probably more to do with playing 4 games in 12 days than anything else.

David Silva starting is rather unsurprising. Last season he started in the league cup in the same round after getting rested the prior round. He got subbed out at 60 and started the following 2 games. So clearly players who start in the league cup aren't necessarily rotated the following games.

Once they get Lacazette back as ST, Auba should drop to LW and he's the creator. Currently they have Saka (4.5) as the LW, who is a great WC 5th mid punt and Auba as the ST which is great for Auba owners. Both Ceballos and Özil have been underwhelming at the #9 spot behind ST. They need to sort that out and it could be a "ketchup bottle effect".

Both Pepe and Son are differentials due to low ownership.

Pepe loves to make 1on1 challenges instead of passing to team mates. Once he gets to play against weaker defenders he can more easily dribble past, that can become brutal.

    But do I go
    1) Kelly -> Tomori this GW (-4) and Zinchenko -> Otamendi next gw. (Zinchenko could start but if he doesnt I have good bench cover)
    OR
    2) Zinchenko -> Otamendi this GW (-4) and Kelly -> Tomori/other 4.5 GW after next on)
    3) Leave and hope Zinchenko plays and if not Kelly/Lundstram comes on

Sticking with Mane, expecting 1 from my bench to play for 1 week and he should be back for GW8. Not enough reason to sell IMO since I don't have Salah or Firmino.

Sterling OK to keep, expectong returns but I wanted to avoid price drops so sold him early for Aguero. Should have done that 3 GWs ago. Was considering Son but nah.

Nobody expects the Pep roulette. Don't read too much into it as a basis for your decision. Making a 3+GW decision should not be based on 1GW lineup guess alone.

What I mean is, for all we know both Sterling and Mane have 50% to miss XI on GW7.

Foyth back on the bench tonight.

    Might reduce aurier appeal.

Is Foyth a RB or CB?

Center back originally I think but has played RB for his country.

Replace Digne (-4) or play Dendoncker?

Im sure it’s been noted previously but i think it’s useless trying to second guess Guardiola. I’ve no doubt he knows the 11 starting this weekend already, barring any injuries tonight.

      Your absolutely right

GW1: Sterling is the safest option because of Sane injury

GW6 (Sterling rested): Aguero is the safest option because Pep prefers Jesus in CL

Just saw Sterling in the City lineup. This is either a really good or really bad.

Its between him and B.Silva for the last attacking spot. Mahrez KDB and Kun starting for sure.

Everton playing 150% percent tonight to get some confidence,.. not a bad idea actually.. except they will get hammered by City in the weekend

Silva feeling the pressure. Dropping from the league cup and then getting hammered by City (which will happen regardless of what he does) would make him favorite to be sacked if he isnt already

A high pressure game for Southampton tonight only benefits Spurs on Saturday
