Three clean sheets on the bounce have placed West Ham’s defence back on the Fantasy Premier League radar.

The Hammers have not conceded a single goal since Andre Gray (£5.9m) scored for Watford in Gameweek 3.

Following the 3-1 win at Vicarage Road, Norwich, Aston Villa and Manchester United have all gone up against Manuel Pellegrini’s men and failed to make a breakthrough.

Interest in West Ham’s defensive assets is understandably on the increase, but are they worth the investment.

This article aims to uncover the Hammers’ clean sheet potential over their upcoming fixtures and which individual assets warrant the spending.

As it uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area, only those who are signed up for the 2019/20 season can access it in full.

What is West Ham’s clean sheet potential?

Lessons learned from Gameweek 6:

Downgraded Robbo to fund an early move for Tammy. I also can sign Mount for a hit.

However, think I made a mistake by selling Robbo. Do you think that Mount (-4) can be justified long term?

    Cheers.

    A), B) or Wildcard?

    Pope
    TAA, Robertson, Otamendi, Digne, Zinchenko
    Salah, Sterling, Mount, Pepe
    Pukki

    McGovern - Greenwood - Dendoncker - Wickham

    2FTs
    £0.2m itb

    A) Zinchenko & Pepe -> Soyuncu & KdB
    B) Zinchenko, Salah & Wickham -> Soyuncu, Son & Abraham (-4)
    C) Something else / wildcard

Liverpools fixtures turning slightly plus I'd still have the wildcard in my pocket should it go horribly wrong. Any opinions valued, cheers

Firmino has had an uncharacteristic streak of points now (in 5 of 6 games). Last year he was not a FF option as he played a deeper role.

So the question then... is this just a fluke and will things return normal or have Liverpool adjusted their style of play?

I tried a player comparison in the member section and I couldn't identify any tactical change.... he looks slightly more forward and has more penalty area touches recently. He also has a significantly improved minutes per attempt and more goal attempts. Has he been given a different set of instructions? Is Klopp trying to ease the defensive pressure on Mane and Salah by encouraging Firmino to shoot rather than pass?

They can, or they can just be streaky or even completely unreliable (like Richarlison). A few seasons ago Firmino had a similar streak, which ended, but Liverpool are a completely different beast now.

I'm trying to determine how much of it is luck/form (temporary) or change in tactics (which may be a case for investment)

He's shooting more often thats for sure, and has probably been Liverpool's best attacking player. Is it a form thing or tactical? Not quite sure to be honest but its something to keep an eye on.

    KDB around UCL period:

Do we smell heavy rotation there? I do. Usually one of the first attackers to come off so far this season and even was rested vs Norwich before Shaktar. Is Pep protecting him? Is it worth having a Son over him for periods like this?

    1. JIMMY TUGGINS
      • 7 Years

As a non-owner (I know...) I was hoping for this but the loss against Norwich with KdB dropped was the worst case scenario for that hope, I think he misses a lot of CL, like Kun, their group is a joke anyway.

Needs to go back to basics, drop the drift wood and stop making so many changes all the time. Think he will get it right but the whole eriksen fiasco is a nightmare. Imo as soon as player wants to leave just let them go, if their heart isn’t with the club anymore then their play won’t be either. No point trying to force something, the biggest agenda of the transfer window should have been getting eriksen out and signing a better replacement.

Get in one of the following defender: TAA, Aurier, Otamendi

Midfield: D. Silva, B. Silva , Son, Mount

Did Sterling to KDB this week, 12.0 should be outperforming all the others but he’s not

Not everyone thinks that defense is awful. I don’t

Without clean sheets, only Liverpool premiums are worth it

Otamendi is not a bad pickup because he is a Ball Hawk in the opposing box and was not expensive last week

You must lack money to have a cheap defense and no backup goaltender....and still need Hayden as a 5th midfielder

Something making me doubt Spurs. I could be off the mark but it seems they’re a little inconsistent.

At home v Soton could be a good differential but I’d be looking at Liverpool or City options

I suppose it does come with a bit of risk, Spurs are all over the place and have only won two of their eight matches this season.

I do think a lot of their troubles are on the road tho, despite the Newcastle defeat.

I kind of agree with Az and think Alonso could be a steal at 6.2m and I’m think with their run of fixtures clean sheets will surely come... Otherwise I think I’m going via Leicester to pereira as I think soyuncu is just boring... Looking to downgrade VD but only if Liverpool keep conceding, and I’ll give him SU and Leicester..

My take is Alonso's appeal depends on the system Lampard uses till Emerson returns.

If it's three at the back, I'd consider investing. He'll be playing an advanced role, and if Kante is one of the two central midfielders, I could see one or two clean sheets.

If it's a back four, not so keen. He won't get forward as much and they'll probably continue conceding. At 6.2, I don't want to be relying solely on attacking returns, especially when Chelsea are inconsistent, which is understandable considering the young players (Tomori, Mount, Abraham) in the team were playing Championship football last season.

    Sterling owners.
I guess this week the sensible play is to hold for now?
    Are you captaining though?

I'm so tempted to do Sterling and Barnes to Son and Firmino but I guess another week to look at Sterling is wise? Just worried I will be in the same boat for the next few weeks being scared to drop him. Thoughts?

Good article about the merits of West Ham defenders and i am tempted but at the same time i am still haunted by a similar situation about two seasons ago when i doubled up on Hammers defenders (Masuaku&Ogbonna) and got burned badly in the process.
